This song is a massive love letter to the fans of the series. Casey and Victor did an amazing job composing this masterpiece.
A love letter indeed, the amount of references through the lyrics is insane.
Casey truly understood Vergil's character when writing this song and Victor... he incorporated Vergil's feelings, his pain, agony and motivation whilst singing.
Freaking masterpiece.

1:40 Quick summary for the characters
Dante (Main Character): Vergil's younger twin, very goofy and fun loving but gets serious when the situation calls for it. He 'killed' Vergil in DMC3 when they were about 19 or so and was depressed for decades following the loss of the last of his family. He believes true power comes from protecting that which is important.
Vergil: The storm that is- just kidding. He's very cold and introverted, as a boy he enjoyed poetry and play fighting with his brother until they were both bloody. Is also defined by his trauma of not being able to protect his family as a child (

@@leonrussell9607 let's say you have a twin and they were born 5 minutes before you were, they're considered the older sibling, since they were technically born first.
Each song does have a deeper meaning to the character it represents in some way. Now I am not sure about some of the lines so don't quote me on this but these are some key ones.
"I am the Storm that is Approaching": Refers to a line from a character Vergil allied himself with in Devil May Cry 3. Which the character said "A storm is approaching
"I am Reclaimer of my name:": At the end of DMC 3 Vergil was captured by Mundus and in DMC 5 he returned and reclaimed his name after being mindless for so long.
"Forsakened I am awakened": At a very young age Vergil's childhood home was attacked and he thought his mother Forsake him(left him) and the "I am awakened" refers to his demonic power
"Phoenix ash in dark divine: A figurative line when V (Vergil's human side) reunited with Urizen(Vergil's demon side) and returned which also Urizen was named a demon king Hench Dark Divine line.
"Disappear into the night": In DMC4 Vergil traveled to a city and at the end of the Vergil story. He walks into the night and vanishes.
"Bloodline Yearns": Regards to Nero (The one with Devil Trigger theme) existence which he did not learn of till DMC5 over 2 decades later(I think) in addition this adds to the previous line because he shared a room with a woman and vanished.
:Bury the Light deep within": Ever since his house was attacked by demons Vergil journeyed the world in pursuit of power and wants to bury the light of his humanity to where it is never seen again.
"Cast aside there's no coming home": Vergil knows he will never return to the home he once had and he knows that.
"Were burning chaos in the wind": All the power Vergil has gotten has become fuel for chaos no matter where he goes.
"Drifting in the ocean all alone": Vergil has no one. Father gone and presumed dead, Mother dead, home destroyed, and him and his brother has a eternal rivalry. He is drifting in the big ocean with no one to save him.
Truly a heartbreaking song and the most heartbreaking out of the 4 main themes I feel. Hope you learned something new about the song.

I don't think that's what the 'bury the light' line refers to.
Vergil is a weird mixture of neutral positive and evil.
I think it's more that he becomes aware of the fact that his and his brother's, Dante, differences can be settled in other ways (just as Nero said). So, instead, I think it's the fact that he still has a glimmer of hope and purity deep within him, giving him that MOTIVATION.

Such a great choice! This song is wild. But overall the vocals are just unreal. His intonations, ability to climb pitch so smoothly, such talent. You know a song is gonna be crazy when it’s this long lmao!

The song is split up into parts that go from slower to more fast paced, and when you are playing the game it smoothly transitions from the start of the song to the crescendo the more chaotic your game-play becomes, I love it
That "guitar" you were talking about in the beginning is a bass. The composer was told not to use distorted guitars in Vergil's theme anywhere but the chorus. So he distorted a bass so heavily it could stand-in for a distorted guitar.
If I had a nickel for every time a game composer was told to not use guitars by higher-ups, but they worked around it and made it sound amazing anyway, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

I didn't realize what Bury the Light was, until I beat the game and started playing with Vergil. Then it hit me what the song was. It was beautiful.

I've never played more than a few minutes of a Devil May Cry game, but I still have this on my music playlist cause it absolutely slaps.
If you listen to the lyrics of this song it'll give you a good idea about who Vergil is. He's probably the coolest anti-villain in gaming history, twin brother of Dante - the protagonist of most of the Devil May Cry series, who is more of a laid back easy going _dude_ who likes pizza and motorcycles, Vergil is all about gaining new heights in power no matter the cost, and he has the will and discipline to achieve his goals. Both are sons of a devil named Sparda and of a human woman named Eva, because of their origins they are devil hybrids and are imbued with superhuman abilities. It's a pretty cool story which boils down to rivalry and childhood trauma.
6:47 you are correct, the lyrics from the first breakdown that started at 6:02 is now whispered underneath the lyrics currently being sung. Casey Edwards and Victor Borba rightfully get a lot of credit for this song but the guy responsible for the mixing did a fantastic job and is largely underappreciated, shoutout to Adam "Nolly" Getgood.

Lovely video. I'm sure you likely know the backstory by now, but the main reason the song is so disjointed and scattered is Vergil in this game split himself into two entities, and both were vying for dominance before being reuinited as one by the story's climax. Vergil going from powerful, dominant music to melodic laments about his past, then back to powerful again is very fitting for his battle theme.

what i love here also is that, at 1:28 or so, the synths going medieval-like type of melody, WHICH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, and totally works if you use the right instruments to make it sound medieval.

Hahaha... I was waiting for this one >:) One of those songs I will never forget. They other song Casey edwards made devil trigger is what got me into devil may cry. Played dmc5. Fricking loved it. Then I heard this. Instantly brought vergils dlc and that added tripple the hours I orignally had with the game.

So the battle themes play during combat sections while playing as the characters themselves, but they have a dynamic progression to the music in-game that reactions to what is currently happening on screen. More enemies = more layers to the music to put it simply.
2:48 The themes play whenever you are actively in combat (special exceptions for som boss themes) but the coolest thing to it is that they'll only play you individual layers of the song the progressively get added on to the more "Stylish" your combos are during combat

I think a great piece of music to react to would be the OST of Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus, which blends pipe organ music with heavy industrial and electronic sound. "Children of the Omnissiah" and "Noosphere" are definitely where the fun is at in that OST!

These song progreses in the game when you hit enemys in the games there are the ranks in igame D,C,B,A,S,SS,SSS and the song get louder its start slower then louder there parts in the song that where to go whit does ranks and then starts in which rank you are starts again from example If You have S or above it sings again ,,im the storm that im aproching ..."and next verse and it jumps to another verse short version every verse corespond with a rank.

interesting review. i could tell what you were listening to. the tune is filled to the brim with layers, off-beats, texture, arpeggio thingies and orchestra mix. it's not the chunky metal but is very dmc.
You should try reacting to the Hollow Knight soundtrack and some other Devil May Cry franchise themes, like Devils Never Cry and Shall Never Surrender.

If i could make a humble suggestion. Up the song volume by 1 or 2 and turn down your volume by 1 or 2. I use headphones. I can hear you great, but the song is so hard to hear it makes hearing the same parts as you are talking about hard to hear.
Also in games like this, battle songs or special songs or usually saved for boss fights or special fights relating to the main story. You have your normal fight songs that a player will hear multi times during random fights. To get to that special fight with special music for that fight or story scene.
some of these were from old streams and I unfortunately didn't check levels as I should have! working on fixing what I can in post for any old posts, and check it more these days
