    It brings me to tears, too, every time. It's so beautiful. Rammstein have also taken inspiration from the Grimm brothers ("Rosenrot"), and from Kurt Weill's "Moritat des Mackie Messer" from 1929, in "Haifisch".

    I like the fact that you're going in towards Rammstein with the slower songs and can move up to the harder songs later..
    This is a great one and I would highly suggest "Spring" as the next one and also, though it's not Rammstein, the lead singer Till Lindemann have a song that might be up your palet : "Lindemann -Stein um stein" that Will help you prepare for the harder Rammstein songs :)

    That was a great analysis, and you were so well prepared - kudos to you, I wish more people could prepare at least a bit if they are about to regiew anything.
    I liked it how your shock at the end was so natural... Everyone is shocked by the ending, even though they expect the death of a child - but not THIS way. This is really devastating.
    I agree with you, that storytelling by Rammstein is marvellous - you get sucked into it instantly! They are genious!
    What I noticed after few times: look at the last line of lyrics: "Diese (Kind) setzt sich auf den Wind und singt" - and then Komm Hier etc.
    So these voices are the voices of souls stolen by the King of the Winds, and all they do is beacon next innocent souls to join them. This might turn the whole song into much darker and creepier meaning 😳

    Erlkönig - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - 1782 (english translation):
    ho's riding so late where winds blow wild
    It is the father grasping his child;
    He holds the boy embraced in his arm,
    He clasps him snugly, he keeps him warm.
    "My son, why cover your face in such fear?"
    "You see the elf-king, father?
    He's near! The king of the elves with crown and train!"
    "My son, the mist is on the plain."
    'Sweet lad, o come and join me, do!
    Such pretty games I will play with you;
    On the shore gay flowers their color unfold,
    My mother has many garments of gold.'
    "My father, my father, and can you not hear
    The promise the elf-king breathes in my ear?"
    "Be calm, stay calm, my child, lie low:
    In withered leaves the night-winds blow."
    'Will you, sweet lad, come along with me?
    My daughters shall care for you tenderly;
    In the night my daughters their revelry keep,
    They'll rock you and dance you and sing you to sleep.'
    "My father, my father, o can you not trace
    The elf-king's daughters in that gloomy place?"
    "My son, my son, I see it clear
    How grey the ancient willows appear."
    'I love you, your comeliness charms me, my boy!
    And if you're not willing, my force I'll employ.'
    "Now father, now father, he's seizing my arm.
    Elf-king has done me a cruel harm."
    The father shudders, his ride is wild,
    In his arms he's holding the groaning child,
    Reaches the court with toil and dread. -
    The child he held in his arms was dead.

    i also like to think that the title is a reference to one of their earlier songs from sehnsucht: "alter mann". the title means "old man", and one possible translation of "dalai lama" would be "old man" as well.
    in addition to that, both songs follow the theme of dying, whereas "alter mann" is more about a slow death in old age and seeing your time run out, while "dalai lama" is more about a sudden and meaningless death of a child.
    of course, both of these songs are layered and could be interpreted differently, but this is my interpretation and i think it fits quite well, so i wanted to share it. (i'm german btw and i agree a lot of rammstein's lyrics are tough to understand)

    Hi Magne.. I like that a song I've heard before, and listen to the lyrics, which I thought it was about fear of flying (knowing the Dalai Lama reference)and never knew it was from a poem, trust you to find the poet in industrial gothic metal.. I think I've said before, I'm about the feel of the music 1st and then a unusual/Amazing vocals will always get me into a track...but I love finding out these meaning and sub plots behind them coming together... the fear factor I think is high coz of the driving music that keeps you always waiting. Alot of the folk storys have that element of fear in them. I will listen to this song in the future differently. Great reaction/ performance and information.. love the Rick and Morty Top!

      Hi Tony!
      Good to see ya!
      Yes isn't it interresting how we can have different approaches into the music?
      But one thing I've learned: you can always find some emotions behind there. It can scream and shout and appear hard and tough , but hard and tough is dressed up vulnerability. Theres often more than what meats the eye/ear. And I love to se what I can find. At least that's my approach, and I love it.
      Thank you for checking in on me!

    Beautiful analysis and lovely German pronounciation! It would be an absolute joy to listen to you read or interpret more poems in whatever language. Your words were perfectly understandable and wonderfully emphasized.
    One of Till's childhood poems from when he was nine. He always had a realist & anti-authoritarian streak in him, it seems:
    Der Nussknacker (by Till Lindemann)
    Er knackt einfach
    Jede Nuß
    Und die nicht will
    Muß
    For the english speaking crowd:
    The Nutcracker (by Till Lindemann)
    He cracks simply
    every nut
    and the one that resists (or doesn't 'want to', basically making it seem sentient)
    must (it implies 'must anyway', 'has no choice anyway' in German)

    What a beautiful reaction and you nailed it by following the lyrics to understand the dramatic upbuild of the song. Rammstein aren't best known for their lyrics or music in the world - who even knows german - but for their stage presents. Therefore I would recommend to react to some songs performed live. One of there best performances was at Madison Square Garden (only 4 available on YT). Maybe you could react to "Ich tu dir weh" @. People call out Dalia Lama to openly apologize to souls of slaves slayed by his serfdom.
    Tibetans love China government as it destroyed his serfdom and brought human rights.
    Dalai Lama was not happy with the reform so left China Tibet.
    How brutal was Dalai Lama's serfdom?
    They made Thangka or paintings on human skin, from LIVING slave girl's skin;
    Skull drum of Tibetan Buddhism, made from skulls of LIVING slave boy and girl;
    Skullcup, made from LIVING slave's skull;
    Skin scripture of Tibetan Buddhism, made from LIVING slave girl;
    Leg flute/trumpet/horn, made from legs of young LIVING slave girl;
    Bone prayer wheel of Tibetan Buddhism, made from LIVING slave's bones.
    Bone beads necklace or wrist lace, made from LIVING slave's bones;
    Bone walking stick, made from LIVING slave's leg;

      How can you recognize Chinese propaganda?
      They add a copy and paste text under every RUclips content that has Dalai Lama in the title, although the content has nothing to do with him at all.

    This is a great song from their Reise Reise album. I highly recommend the following song Keine Lust. The video is funny, but on point about addictions.
