It's Rammstein, of course the wings are on fire. :)
The power in Rammstein's music is incredible. I don't understand the words, but it doesn't matter. Amazing!
If you go and read the lyrics and what they mean in english makes it even more amazing, truly a gifted band and singer
Literal translation
vers 1
Who´s during lifetime good on earth
Will become an angel after death
With the view into the sky you will ask yourself
Why they are not seen
chorus
Not until the clouds are going to sleep
Are we seen in the sky
We are afraid and we are alone
God knows I don´t want to be an angel
vers 2
They live behind the sunshine
apart from us infinite far away
they have to clutch on the stars (so tight)
to avoid to fall down from the sky
chorus
Not until .....
musical interlude
chorus again
Als ich ein Kind war und kein Englisch konnte habe ich englische Musik geliebt und kein Wort verstanden. Die Musik ansich ist die universelle Sprache.
When I was a child and couldn't speak English, I loved English music and didn't understand a word. Music itself is the universal language.
I can understand most of the words as I am upper intermediate level in German and in Norse too and upper advanced level in Dutch (most Dutch words are cognate with most German words) and advanced level in Icelandic and Norwegian, so I can understand over 60% of the newer words I see in German - by the way, Skáld also has a cover of the song Du Hast which has extra Norse words! (I highly recommend learning the most alpha languages ever created Norse and Gothic and Icelandic 2gether with the other prettiest languages ever Faroese / Dutch / English / Danish / Norwegian / Welsh / Breton / Cornish and also Óld English and Forn Svenska and Middle English and German and Proto Germanic etc!)
To understand Flakke's suit you need to see Ich Tu Dir Weh from the same concert.
And Till properly sings in that one.
(And burns more stuff, he's Till).
"more stuff," he says, knowingly 😉
My fav song live. Tills voice on this song gives me goosebumps
When I first got into these guys years ago, one of the best parts was watching live shows. And one of the best parts of that was quickly realizing that just about anything you see on the stage can, and probably will, be lit on fire. The only exceptions to this are the things that project fire or explode. And that's awesome.
yesssssssssss
Honestly, the live of Benzin from the same show is way better - that dude on stage was literally on 🔥 lol!
the deliberate movements and monotone sing-talking is purposeful to show the weight of Till's wings. The wings are metaphorical in that Till is a fallen angel. He laboriously comes up from the depths of hell to make his tortured confession, then slowly descends back to the pit under the weight of his own sins. IMHO.
Good interpretation. But doesn't he suffer because he's been rewarded for good behavior? He takes no action, he is just signing. He accepts his fate, spits fire but doesn't do anything to change it.
I've been to well over 800+ live shows since the late 70's. Rammstein was visually, the best concert I've ever witnessed live. Well worth the exorbitant ticket price. 🤘🏼
Is it so expensive?
I started watching live shows in the 80's, but I am with you on this. Rammstein is the best live show there is.
@@PedroAndradex Yes!
Their concert is one of the cheapest I've been to in Europe compared to other big artists & bands. US$90-120 depending if u want tkts at the front or GA or Seated, really great price in my opinion, I paid $120 last year & was in the Firezone about 3 or 4 deep from the stage in front of Paul. Spectacular!
@@PedroAndradex I pay 100€ for Frankfurt now^^, for me normal today
In many of their live videos, you can see what appear to be streaks of blood or grease on various band members' arms, faces, or other exposed body parts. It turns out this is a substance that helps prevent burns. After an accident with pyrotechnics early in their career, several of the band members, including Til, became trained and are certified pyrotechnicians. In an interview contained in one of the documentaries about Rammstein, Til says that they wound up going for showy, impressive performances because such a high percentage of their fanbase can't understand the lyrics, so they wanted another way to keep the audience engaged. Whatever else one can say about them, they are definitely hard-working!
All of that, plus Till loves setting stuff on fire
Not only are their live shows incredible, but they've made some of the best music videos out there.
They really are performance art. Not just music. Great music, thoughtful lyrics, theatrical stage show and awesome videos.
whistling sounds spot on with the record so i think personally its a recording and they just doing it for show. the female vocals are pumped in from the record.
100%
Till had to give up those very heavy wings as they tore up his back. He does love to suffer for his craft though. Flake (Fluck-ah) is indeed on a treadmill and he really gets his steps in during a whole concert. Doesn't matter whether you do live or music video for them, you'll get well thought out art each time, they don't phone anything in and are one of the best live acts you could ever see for performances like this, even if you weren't into the actual music.
This band has for years been called the best live band of all time and I believe that is exactly what they will go down in history as. Which is well deserved in my opinion. Most artists give you a concert. Rammstein gives you a show and an experience.
Till Lindemann is a qualified pyrotechnician, that's how Rammstein can get away with all of their pyrotechnics! I also read somewhere that those wings weigh around 100 pounds. Just imagine singing and performing on stage with 100 pounds of weight strapped on you. Till Lindemann, the lead singer is just a total beast.
Also, I had the pleasure of seeing them live back in September of 2022, here in NJ at MetLife stadium and all of their songs are phenomenal live!
Till was a member of the east german olympic swimming team at the age of 16.
I love that you recognise that although not a true 'singer', Till's voice is something outside what you might regard as normal. He is something on his own, a poet and a master of delivery, just something wonderful.
Want to see how Flake gets his 'sparkly suit'? ...
Rammstein - Ich Tu Dir Weh (Live from Madison Square Garden) : ruclips.net/video/6TR12QnOAzE/видео.html
Oh yes, this is a must watch!
There are a couple of pre recorded parts, the whistling, and the female vocal part that comes in. So many bands use some backing tracks now days, synced to the light show, to make for a fantastic concert.
There was some controversy last year with KISS in Australia performing at a sports event, where it was so obviously mimed and heavily padded with backing tracks, and sounding like a studio version almost, yet they claim to be "Live", that is unfortunate, as they probably would not live up to fans expectations without doing that.
I would agree the whistling would need to be pre-recorded considering the manner in which they depict it. Try whistling, then move something close to your mouth, like a hand. It's far more difficult to whistle, as the wind needs space, and the microphone would impede that sound. Yeah, pre-recorded backing has come a long way since Milli Vanilli. Hahaha. This is seriously one of the most impressive live performances ever.
Well, Ramstein gets a complete pass by me because I don’t just consider them a band. I could consider them a group of multifaceted artists.
They don't need to pre-record the backing tracks, they just use the studio tracks like everyone else who uses backing tracks for sounds that can't be replicated live.
@@chadbennett7873 I just tried it. And yes, even bringing my hand close to my embouchure (music term for mouth posture, which applies to wind instruments) I was still able to maintain tone, pitch, and volume. 🤷♂️
@@derekfalconberg3481 You're talented. Don't know anybody else who can do that. Well done!
There is no better definition of Germany (culture-wise) than Rammstein. The preciseness, directness, attitude, dark humour…all is there!
all the stereotypes, yup.
I am German and unfortunately I completely disagree. In my opinion Rammstein have the soundtrack for a world I do not want to live in.
@@stefanalt2110 You might not be happy with the content they deliver, but the way they deliver the content is what I tried to highlight. Of course, I’m not German, but I was fortunate enough to travel in Germany village by village with car along with all the big cities. I also did business quite a lot in Germany. That's why from an “artistic” point of view I think they represent how Germany operates :)
I had not thought about it before, and I agree! Well said. The camaraderie is also worth a mention: Six band members who have stuck together, through thick and thin, for thirty (30!) years is a beautiful example of loyalty.
Best in class live shows, both vision- and sound wise👌🤘👍
Rammstein is art! My 11 year old daughter and I will see them in June. We will be in the fuerzone🔥..her first Rammstein concert. She is counting down the days😄
Feuerzone is fire ❤️🔥
She'll have the time of her life 🎉
One lucky lille one she is.
I went to a concert too, but not in the feuerzone. I had problems hearing after the concert. It‘ll be great.
Love the look on your face when you see Rammstein. You Can not hide that you are in to it.
It was amazing to see that live for the first time. You could feel the heat from the fire! I love how Till and the band put on a show and Tills face mirrors the sad lyrics perfectly.
Another vote for Ich Tu Dir Weh. It's SOOO good!
Great Reaction.👋🤘❤❤
The educatedmarine and the Bucksttabu Channel has videos from Rammstein with English subtitles.
More Rammstein reaction please.🙏.
genau wegen solchen liedern gibt es lieder wie !tausend taube nüsschen" die die blödheit der deutschen fans zeigen soll - alles zu konsumieren was es nur gibt - so unsinnig es auch sein mag... . "more education please".
Swedish watching here, I appreciate your channel. Rammstein were more daring in the past, before there were so many restrictions and safety regulations. I saw them at a Swedish festival in '97 called Hultsfred, where he was all on fire. There are short (15 minute) clips of it on youtube but unfortunately not the whole concert. It was a wonderful moment in my youth.
I've been to their concert last year and I still get chills every single time I hear one of the songs they performed that day
That live performance is outstanding. Everytime I see and listen to it is awesome.
The look on your face of - HOLY CRAP - says it all. At 72 I'm embarrassed to admit I just recently found Rammstein and what an incredible band they are. I watched the documentary on them. How can you not respect these guys? Coming from East Germany and being released from the oppression from the Soviet Block and be together all these years. Then there's the incredible music. Good Lord, these guys R O C K. They're at the top of my play list when I exercise. I'd go one of their live shows tomorrow if I could.
Same here bit younger of 53 mum and found them last year! Can’t believe what I’ve been missing!
“Wir haben Angst und sind allein. Gott weiss Ich will kein Engel sein.“
“We are scared and alone. God knows I don’t want to be an angel.”
Amazing song! And Rammstein has so many great ones. Glad you take the time to discover what they have. I feel there are some other songs that really bring out his voice as well. Please do take the time to check out “Deutschland” “Klavier” “Seemann” and/or “Ich tut dir weh.” They won’t disappoint. Thanks again for your work! ❤
I just binged all of your videos this morning, i really enjoy they way you connect with songs, it reminds me a lot of myself. Youve earned a lifelong fan, and PS im kinda crushing hard over here 😂
The best band ever!!
They bring an inexplicable energy to their songs! whoever knows it falls in love!
Engel was the closing song played at this concert and is outstanding. Totally recommend Ich Tu Der Weh from the same concert. Till showcases his vocal range in that one and it is VERY entertaining. Also, from the same concert, Rammlied is excellent and recommended - their opening number in the concert.
After hearing this song (somewhere), I immediately ordered the album from Amazon. It wasn't even available in North America yet, and I had to wait a few weeks. I like to think I was one of the first Canadian fans. Regardless, that whistle was the hook, but the riffage combined with the electronics was priceless. And when the CD arrived, I was amazed by the whole album. They've maintained that level of quality through the years. The vocals are so compelling that I've never cared that I can't understand the lyrics. I can feel the meaning.
Just today I remembered this song and sang it in my mind all day. And voila, I found this review in the top suggestions :)
Its crazy to think that an entire generation of english speaking people my age were singing along to words that they did not understand, yet hitting every word correctly..
A Rammstein concert is a true experience. I was fortunate to catch them at the House of Blues in Las Vegas some 20+ years ago.
Hitting my 10th Rammstein concert in june, absolutely never gets boring and cant wait!
Top 5 best bands I've ever seen live (and I've seen pink floyd live which says alot). There is a part where the keyboardist got into an inflatable raft and went out into the crowd and the crowd supported him through the entire arena and then back to the stage. You could feel the heat from the pyrotechnics from where we were sitting and I wouldn't say we were sitting close. Engel is their finale. The entire show was wild! I'd recommend anyone go see them live if you have the opportunity.
Haifisch (live)
Good thing the keyboardist is only like 100 lbs
@@kellismith4329 that man is getting his steps in every show guaranteed!
I just found out your channel while searching for Rammstein reactions and I loved the way you explain your feelings. It is like listening my own feelings, you have such a good way to describe and point out your thoughts. I would like to see more Rammstein reactions, all of their performances makes me awestruck ❤
Love your reaction to Rammstein and that you really love it. It is fun to follow your musical journey and get your vocal insight at the same time.
The Live Aus Berlin shoot from 1998 is the best live video of this song.
I saw their liebe ist fur alle da tour and their greatest hits tour. Both were amazing, when I saw those wings live I was awestruck.
if you go to a concert, the first 5 rows are the "firezone", you really feel it!
I remember this as one of the coolest concert scenes I ever witnessed, saw this in Leipzig, Germany back in the day.
The stage that essentially disassembles itself at the end was just something else xD
I've seen this video maybe 50 times, and my jaw as did yours did the drops, I knew the moment you almost stopped the vid but you were so stunned you had to watch, this reaction was a joy to share, thank you
Awesome song. Awesome analysis and reaction! Awesome ❤
The glitter suit is a prop for the show , you will see it here "Rammstein - Ich Tu Dir Weh" same concert preferably
This song was the final encore in their show at Madison Square Garden in 2010. I read somewhere that the wings weighed about 50 kg (more than 110 pounds) and left huge scars on his back, so the wings in later shows were lowered from the top and he strapped himself to it and was raised while singing (including some pyrotechnics, of course).
You are a delight to watch!
love your reactions. hope you did a bit more rammstein in the future. there's a lot to explore ❤❤
Hell YEAH!! This is fuckin awesome....I can watch this over and over!
A jaw dropping performance from Rammstein. Nothing unusual there. But never doubt for a moment what you and your analysis adds to these reaction videos. As informative, entertaining and stunning as ever. Nothing unusual there either. Thank you.
Love Rammstein! Would also love to see you react to a cover of their song Seemann by Apocalyptica and Nina Hagen. I believe she has a crazy six octave vocal range and in the song she spectacularly shows off the lower parts of her range.
I highly recommend you watch their more recent song Zeit (the music video). Along with Till's wonderful vocals, it's really a story of melancholy and nostalgia which I'm sure you would enjoy greatly!
loved your reaction to this clip. i love rammstein so much.
Very nice reaction. Me , as a Rammstein fan appreciate ❤
Going to see these guys later this year! Yeah I’m excited😁
That was a really nice reaction thank you. You should watch a making-of video of Rammstein. Then you can see how hard they work.
Feuer Frei! from the same Madison Square Garden gig will literally blow your mind as far as the fire show goes. :D
Rammstein is a super important band for me in my life. Even though I don't speak German, I've never been a big lyric person. I don't think I would have survived my teenage years if it wasn't for them. This performance was a tester show for a US tour. I waited 16 years to see them live and when they played this, I broke down in tears. Not only were they amazing, but it reinforced my love for them, and reminded me that I made the right decision to not do something stupid.
The female voice you hear is Christiane "Bobo" Hebold. She is amazing. She is in Rammsteins old music video and she is singing in a cage. ;)
This is my favorite RAMMSTEIN song.....❤❤❤❤❤❤ He Doe's not want to be an Angel... The Angel's are hidden beyond the cloud's.... Loved your reaction 👈
Can I just say I love watching you get into the groove of the music in these videos.
Also, all of the band members are certified Pyrotechnicians. That lets them do the incredible effects that they do with each show.
Great reaction ❤ thank you for that
Love your descriptions!
I love that you always come back to Rammstein. They are indeed captivating.
showmanship level - "Rammstein")
You must watch the concert in Montreal 2012. The person who shot it was in the first few rows. They get a damn good close up of Till coming up the ramp to the microphone and it just keeps getting better.....Flame up is around 2 minute mark and wings open around 1m30s mark. Montreal 2012 is so good
You know it’s going to be good when she gets her first glance at the wings and her jaw hits the floor! Saw them August ‘22 for the first time. OMG what a show, so much FIRE! Went to Iron Maiden a month later and Bruce got out his flamethrower and shot out a whopping 4 foot flame. A little anticlimactic after Rammstein.
More rammstein reactions please ❤
Ditto
You are priceless....looking at Ramstein....WOW!! Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
More Rammstein please!
I've been to this tour, in particular. I was a good distance from the stage and when pyrotechnics hit, it felt like an explosion. Heat rush!!
I was thinking that the treadmill is used to keep from being grounded possibly. Im not sure, but it seems relevant. .
You definitely should react to "Rammstein - Mein Herz brennt". Best song of them for me.
Imagine singing that calmly and staying on your marks with 100 pounds of metal strapped to your back and in a lot of pain. Truely the GOAT of live performance.
I’ve been a huge Rammstein fan since I was a teenager. I’ve heard every studio and live recording of this song, and I believe the whistling is a playback of the original studio recording due to the perfect reproduction in each performance. I think that the guitarists Richard and Paul are just pursing their lips for showmanship.
Love that over the years theyve done different pyro effects to the same songs
Magnífico!
Me gustan mucho tus reacciones. Eres mi favorita en este tipo de videos. Saludos.
This was "only" a reaction to the Performance.... Translate the Lyrics makes you even more Goosebumps.... Till is a poet (like germans were in earlier times)
The sheer intensity and energy in their music is mind-b. I'll leave you with a request. You have to react to Nick Thurl Mavromatis' new song, it's mind-blowing!
I love Rammstein, not a clue as to the meaning of the words, but they are great. Very dramatic, almost classical symphonic metal!
Always enjoy your reactions, thank you. Speaking of Rammstein, would love to see you react to Nina Hagen’s cover of their song Seemann. She’s got a ridiculous vocal range. In this song she explores of course the lower part of said range quite extensively. In fact, I believe she starts the song somewhat lower than Till.
Nina Hagen is a beast👍
You're so pleasant. I love it.
I would like to recommend Fair to Midland next. Dance of the Manatee or The Wife and the Kids and the White Picket Fence.
Till is so theatrical.. love his performances
At 1:55 you ask if the whistle is actually one of the band members whistling. Later on you've noticed that both Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers whistle in their microphones. Yes, it's pre-recorded (as noone, not even Thijs van Leer, which you enjoyed watching the band Focus, would be able to make a whistle sound exactly the same, every single time).
Legend has it (although someone mentions it on Reddit, so it must be true 😉), that Richard Kruspe came up with this whistle whilst having a bath, he jumped out of the bath, didn't bother to get dry or get dressed and recorded it immediately as a demo. Later, during the recording of the song, all band members tried to record it again, but getting the notes and intervals as perfect as on the demo was impossible. So they decided to use the demo instead.
Ps, new sub here, stumbled on your channel, i am thoroughly enjoying your responses. The manner in which you discuss songs and the singing-aspects spot on ánd very understandable, even for someone like me, who didn't have a formal education in music, but just enjoys listening!
"We are afraid and we are alone....God knows I don't want to be an angel (Engel)".........Flake (Fluck-ah) , the keyboardist, IS on a treadmill .......great for his cardio!
Rammstein are one of a kind, for sure. I loved their most recent album. I don't know if there are any good live performances of it (I'm not aware of any official recordings, which I think this was). But if you find any, it would be interesting to see you react to them. Otherwise the studio versions themselves are still great.
And then, of course, there's their entire back catalogue. I'm on mobile so I can't list everything, but one recommendation that I MUST make is the piano version of Mein Herz Brennt. It might be good to react to the normal rock version as well so as to really understand the difference, but the piano version in particular is one of the very best things they've ever done.
Best live band I have ever seen
The whistle is a backing track (or played live by Flake on the keyboard).
давно их фан ,нравится смотреть как вы реагируете на это шоу
If you like this, check out their live video of “Du Hast” in Paris!! The pyrotechnics and filming in that are so spectacular. And his voice is always so amazing. Their presence is just epic!!
Hey Bethany! Just saw some of your videos and couldn't stop watching. Congrats! I noticed you don't have any reaction about a marvelous and unic singer from Brazil called Elis Regina (specially in a song called "Como nossos pais"; there is other on good too named "Velha roupa colorida"). I'm sure you'll really love it and maybe make a video reacting.
Realize that this is a show. They are talented musicians, and some of what you hear at their concerts is straight up balls out. But this is a SHOW. A really good one. Just enjoy the show, you won't see a better one.
...and then you read the lyrics and watch it again and cry even more.
The female voice is Bobo from the german band "Bobo In White Wooden Houses" (and yes it was pre-recorded and is from the studio version).
I don't believe they are actually wistling, because it always sounds perfect and exactly like in the studio version.
Concerning the price of the ticket, you really have for your money.
I'm 53 and went to hundreds shows and festivals, and since a few years, concerts are more and more expensive.
Yes, Rammstein is not the cheaper band but really not also the more greedy (band or producers) to give some examples for this same period:
2023 I went to see Rammstein for 150€ (most expensive ticket to be in front row, I paid also 95€ for the same show but in a different country) and this year I go to see them back again for the same price (10 years ago I paid 60€, but not in stadium).
Also 2022 / 2023 always tickets in the pit:
Nightwish: 50€
The cure: 60€
Gojira: less than 60€
Depeche mode: 120€ in golden Pit in a stadium.
This year I wanted to go and see two of my favorites band:
Tool: 300€ (in the pit....but sitting on a chair, so no thank you).
Pearl Jam: 250€ in the pit.
Sorry for those two bands but no, even if they are on my top ten favorite bands.
I will go in a Festival to see Jinjer as main band: 53€ (but there are also 9 other bands)
Concerning Rammstein, yes it could seem expensive, but considering the show, pyros, stage, everything, it's really not that expensive.
I like watching your reactions and explanations to the different genres, and you are picking great songs. I was surprised not to find a reaction video to Stone Temple Pilots, and would suggest Plush Acoustic version as a good video, and then, as you talked about Alison Kraus having the voice of an angel, you could also dissect pretty much anything from Jennifer Nettles for a win. And as you are enjoying Triumph lately, you may also try one of Rik's more recent appearances where he does his old triumph songs live and acoustic, his voice is still amazing!
OMG you are the best =)
11:15 regarding the whistling, I couldn’t hear two people either, but the whistling I did hear was perfectly imperfect, in terms of pitch. That convinced me that at least one of those guys was actually whistling; a sample would probably have been pitch corrected.
A Rammstein show is a heavy metal opera.
