You will find that most actors will lower themselves to anything to get up the ladder, hence why most hollywood actresses get fucked with their tits out in their early films.
joystick83 "Yes hello, I'm here to audition for the part of the overweight disappointing date." That's one thing. What's even worse is when they take one look at you and say: "You're perfect, you've got the part"
Gervais' acting there is absolutely brilliant. Perfect, in fact. He really couldn't have played it any better imo. Possibly the funniest moment from The Office for me. Love it.
You can tell he's really looking forward to this one, he's a bit giddy. The guy's face behind him, then the "not sexual" and then the reveal. It's perfect, perfect comedy timing.
I love at 0:26 he really wants to just run out and is about to, but the cameras have him trapped. His eyes are darting around looking for the exit, but he is literally like a rabbit in the headlights. It's an amazingly good scene.
If a sketch is supposed to make you react, this definitely does the job. It made me squirm because I did something similar once, and was even shallower than him; I arranged to meet her at a train station, stood far away with a view of the platform, and when it became obvious that although I recognised her, the picture I was holding was either photo-shopped or taken 20 years earlier... I disappeared into the crowd. Not one of my finest moments I'm afraid, and not something I'm proud of. At least she could think I had problems getting there, but I often think I should've had the guts to see it through.
I always wonder how actors who are cast in "that ugly guy/girl" role in cinema feel like, knowing that they are chosen for the role because they're seen as physically unattractive. And how do they find those actors? "We are looking for unattractive people"?
After looking it up, that's actually interesting: there's one overweight actor who said that he feels sorry for beautiful, young people: there're millions of them; and they think that because they're pretty there's more chance they'd get roles; whereas there's more demand for obese or unattractive people in the business....
I was sorry for her because he made it so clear he didnt fancy her. Looks arent everything and I thought her face was quite pretty. She was a big girl, but in all the right places. Good enough for a nice kiss and cuddle at least....
I've watched few USA remakes of UK series.. It bothers me when they are just the same :D but still probably should watch more that USA version, Steve Carell is quite funny.
The last time a girl tried to set me up, she got offended when I asked to see a picture. I told her, "Most people, before deciding if they want to talk to someone, get to see them first; so, why is this any different?!"
Haha I remember seeing this the first time it was on tv back in 2003, pissin myself laughing then..its still just as funny now, even though you know whats coming..comedy genius
I love the awkward "Ha?" or when characters pretend they need to hear what they are asked again just so they have more time to panic and not reply with a useful answer anyway lol
Still makes me laugh every time I see it. He seems to mouth "what's this about" after he says FFS. It is brilliant. He is frozen to the spot. Absolutely perfect.
It's really David's character that you're supposed to pity in this scene(for being such a loser as to treat someone like that) and not the woman; I can hardly believe this needs pointing out since it's the basis for almost all of Gervais' humour.
Having been on more than a few of these 90s styled blind dates, I would have my game on. I would tell her I was wearing black pants and a white shirt, and If I was like hell no? I could just bolt. If she was amazing? opps sorry love I had to change at the last minute. LOL. Priceless
I always wonder how they cast parts like her's. "Yes hello, I'm here to audition for the part of the overweight disappointing date."
You will find that most actors will lower themselves to anything to get up the ladder, hence why most hollywood actresses get fucked with their tits out in their early films.
knkevinuk Nomad Most men refer to those as the 'golden age'.
lol I've also always wondered this, like when there are actresses that are called negative things in the script, just seems weird.
haha you beat me to it. yeah-overweight 'admin type' lady needed to help Ricky feel let down and disappointed

That's one thing. What's even worse is when they take one look at you and say: "You're perfect, you've got the part"
David?
Ah?
The best reaction, sort of like If I play dumb she might not recognise me
+Abandonthisfate He's pondering what to do at that point.
PML!!!
Even though he showed her a photo of himself.
Say what you see Gareth
He is trying to buy time, it gets me every time
Gervais' acting there is absolutely brilliant. Perfect, in fact. He really couldn't have played it any better imo. Possibly the funniest moment from The Office for me. Love it.
Totally agree. It's brilliantly done.
You can tell he's really looking forward to this one, he's a bit giddy. The guy's face behind him, then the "not sexual" and then the reveal. It's perfect, perfect comedy timing.
If that's the funniest moment, then I guess the whole series is pretty much trash.
Lol jk.
Yeah agreed.
I guess your American
"David?" "Uh"
Remember: The closer they take their selfies, the more cautious you need to be!
And the higher
Oh for f...
Oh I absolutely pissed myself laughing when I first saw this. TV GOLD. His reaction is hilarious.
I love at 0:26 he really wants to just run out and is about to, but the cameras have him trapped. His eyes are darting around looking for the exit, but he is literally like a rabbit in the headlights. It's an amazingly good scene.
I love how he's trying to be all mature about it until he sees her face.
It's the shrug of the shoulders at the end and the "you know" that gets me. It's like..
"You see? I told you!"
When I first saw this I was in my 20s and never thought much of Susan , however now she sees ok .
She seems like a ordinary looking woman for a man of his age and looks, yet Brent's disappointed it isn't a young 20 year old super model
That is exactly the problem. In his own mind he is a young hunk - so his expectation is based on that 🙂
Reminiscent of the girls on dating sites who all expect to meet a rich footballer
I actually don’t think she looks bad 😂
If a sketch is supposed to make you react, this definitely does the job. It made me squirm because I did something similar once, and was even shallower than him; I arranged to meet her at a train station, stood far away with a view of the platform, and when it became obvious that although I recognised her, the picture I was holding was either photo-shopped or taken 20 years earlier... That's what Brian Boitano would do.
We all did some shitty things though.
Her fault for being dishonest. Fair play to you as far as I’m concerned.
You did the right thing.....no point sitting with her pretending to be interested.
I walked out on a date by going to the toilet in the restaurant then leaving without her seeing me.
must be awful casting the actress for this
yeh haha and what about the one in the finale he was worried was his date
You should see her in Little Britain
I always wonder how actors who are cast in "that ugly guy/girl" role in cinema feel like, knowing that they are chosen for the role because they're seen as physically unattractive. And how do they find those actors? "We are looking for unattractive people"?
They don't mind, search it up, there are plenty of actors that have no problem playing slightly unattractive people.
After looking it up, that's actually interesting: there's one overweight actor who said that he feels sorry for beautiful, young people: there're millions of them; and they think that because they're pretty there's more chance they'd get roles; whereas there's more demand for obese or unattractive people in the business....
Just look at those "quick! what do I do now?" eyes! Ricky is an excellent actor.
Uncomfortably realistic scene
at the end of the day we're all shallow
The funniest comedy since Fawlty Towers, Gervais was brilliant
"David?"
"Uh?"
God what an ass lol
You can't see his arse...
I was sorry for her because he made it so clear he didnt fancy her. Looks arent everything and I thought her face was quite pretty. She was a big girl, but in all the right places. Good enough for a nice kiss and cuddle at least....
One of the best clips from the show. Still makes me laugh.
ahh for fuck sake......uh......yep
I prefer UK over USA. Ricky is so embarassing to watch in this show :D
+Liam Roberts Just like your opinion is superior to others hahaha? smh
Liam Roberts But you call the British version superior though? Despite it not being a fact but an opinion instead.
"Have they no regard for the superior original version?" Sure doesn't sound like an opinion.
I've watched few USA remakes of UK series.. It bothers me when they are just the same :D but still probably should watch more that USA version, Steve Carell is quite funny.
Yeah, I do think the US version is funny in parts, but in my opinion, it doesn't come close to the original
The last time a girl tried to set me up, she got offended when I asked to see a picture. I told her, "Most people, before deciding if they want to talk to someone, get to see them first; so, why is this any different?!"
“David?” “Uh?” I love how he’s trying to think of a way out but there’s not enough time before she recognises him 🤣🤣
The cheek of him, the Adonis of slough. lol.
😂😂😂😂
best moment in the whole show for me...
The best for fuck sake ever recorded on film
Ricky's acting here is brilliant, it's all in the eyes and he nails it.
Yes but was it also humble underrated and on point?
@@jamescarr4662 Underrated by who?
Haha I remember seeing this the first time it was on tv back in 2003, pissin myself laughing then..its still just as funny now, even though you know whats coming..comedy genius
best scene ever.. cried with laughter!
Edward Austin really? your humor is awfully limited then.
Edward Austin really? your humor is awfully limited then.
Plenty Of Fish
It's great how he stops smiling as soon as he gives the back to her
Amazing reaction here, but I think his greatest one is when he's in the car and the woman says "you're not that awful boss are you?"
The first time I saw this I actually couldn’t breathe laughing, absolute classic
I love the awkward "Ha?" or when characters pretend they need to hear what they are asked again just so they have more time to panic and not reply with a useful answer anyway lol
IMO the funniest part of this scene is the way he says “not sexual” in disgust
0:14😂😂😂
you go and sit down and i'll get one hahahahaa
Anyone that says Ricky can't act needs to watch this. Genius.
Except no one has said that. Only you.
never get sick of watching this scene, so fricken funny
😂😂 absolute brilliant. Ricky Gervais is a genius
Awww for f...... David?.....Ah? 😂😂😂
This is me as an atheist when I die and I see literally god as they depicted and described. Hair and beard and everything ..
lmao
To be honest for anyone who has dated online, we have all been there.
Poor guy ...lol. You can't win em all as they say. Ricky is a legend. Happy TGIF.
Gervais looks a bit like Anthony Ainley from Doctor Who
+CosmicUndeadElf "Alright...some people call me the best Master...if that's true, c'est la vie."
There's so much going on here with the looks, the silences and body language. I honestly think it's one of the best pieces of acting I've ever seen.
Watch more stuff
What makes this funnier is that you would have the exact same reaction
LMAO simply the best scene, followed by Gareth's ultimate fantasy
EVERY woman who approaches me from POF is like this. AARRGGH!!
I dont even get a reply
Ditto
"POF", I found your problem.
The way he says oh for fucks sake just kills me
David Brent is so much like my uncle! So funny this, classic moment.
This has me in hysterics!
everytime!! PML!!
This show was genius..the capturing of the mundaneness of the office, the pathos, the latent emotions of the workers....brilliant show...
oh get off your high horse, you do realise it's acting? gervais takes the piss out of his own looks throughout the series
I imagine this is James Bonds reaction when the female contact isn’t what he likes
"Oh for fucks sake"
"David?"
"Huh... yep hiya"
🤣🤣🤣
Still makes me laugh every time I see it. He seems to mouth "what's this about" after he says FFS. It is brilliant. He is frozen to the spot. Absolutely perfect.
I thought he was mouthing "waste of time" 😂
This scene is so legendary that actress could easily make a living doing celebvm lol
Which episode was this?
it was either part 1 or 2 of the christmas special, but im not sure which one
This is easily top 5 best British sitcoms moments of all time!
Haha 0:30 "you know"
On paper this scene seems almost like nothing. The Gervais plays the role and it's friggin brilliant.
0:13. When it's your first day of college and you see the person who bullied you at school walk in
typical guy.....always cracks me up ;)
As if he’s anything to look at lol
I wouldn't have been disappointed. I think he's attractive. Great scene and acting.
She is actually quite pretty ...what was he expecting?...a Supermodel?
Oh for fucks sake!
hahahahaah
How does he know what drink to get her ?
Quite comfortably my favourite tv moment of all time
Please learn from my mistake: never meet a blind date at their house, there is no going back.
He didn't ask her what she would like to drink.
Is she Karl Pilkingtons girlfriend Suzanne in real life? 🤷🏻♀️
@simonemorris6903 No. This actress is Cally Lawrence
priceless
Just recognised this actress in Eastenders, 2019.
I don't watch Eastenders.
Boring isn’t it, staying at home watching Eastenders
Not for me I like it
@@jexodus91 🤣🤣🤣
"David?"
"Uh?"
For a second I thought, he will pretend to be someone else 😂
Nothing has ever made me laugh harder.
+showvanist Have you looked in the mirror?
Muttley Homerun Chip.
+showvanist double-guns underated.
+Dave Bales fawwk yeah.
Greatest 30 seconds of this series
I've had this experince before...
So have I. Now I'm married.
Trey Wilson .....with the same girl.
You mean you had some bloke say 'for fuck sake' when you turned up?
one of my favourite clips
His reaction is priceless 😆🤣😊👍
Haha he is so unbelievably quick to jump to a massively negative conclusion :-D
how long does it take to see you don't fancy someone? A nano second?
Dunno, Mike.
Epic :D
Every time I go on a tinder date
We,ve all been here guys when we,ve been catfished with filters
You know
Bloody brilliant !
you know!
Another superb scene. Utterly hilarious.
Never; ever gets old 😂
Never gets old.
Ah?
“david?”
“UH”
😂😂😂😂😂
I know how David felt. I've been through what David went through. Lol
It's really David's character that you're supposed to pity in this scene(for being such a loser as to treat someone like that) and not the woman; I can hardly believe this needs pointing out since it's the basis for almost all of Gervais' humour.
You're not going to tell people how they experience this art. End of that.
Grow a pair.
Oh for fu sake
