Hello !
It feels so good to be back with House of The Dragon ! We're back with the story and the characters like we left them, and it's pretty cool to have this impression that we never left them. But, at the same time, except for the opening scene which is a clear fanbase service with the Starks and the Wall and the ending scene which is a shocking moment with big consequences, everything between is just summarizing/reminding what we learnt/did in season 1.
Not sure that it was necessary for a show like that, and clearly for a first episode of a GOT show, we want more. You can do episodes like that in the middle of the season, but in the first episode, you need to make a big first impression. Not saying we need fights and all, but more intense moments. For example, Rhaenyra's sadness, her mourning her son, Alicent lighting that candle, that moment was sublime. So a son died. But not the good one, so I'm not even sure that Rhaenyra would be satisfied. And for sure, Aegon is gonna go wild after that.
