  • In the newest Warrior Cats book Thunder, we have a few instances of the writers making decisions that improve upon criticism by the fans. Whether or not they are intentional, they are interesting to look at.

    Nothing brings me more joy than when creators listen to what their fans want. With such a huge fanbase, you'd think the authors would listen more to our agreed upon ideas, but it's a rare occasion. Hopefully this digs us out of whatever holes the series has fallen into.

    I loved seeing Frostpaw and Nightheart's friendship! It's very rare when male and female cats are just friends and don't end up being mates! ✨
    Also, the scene that resembles therapy touched me deeply, since I go to therapy myself and I could empathize with Frostpaw, it was a nice touch (Other cats need therapy too ;-;)

      That was something I loved about the book, that Frost was able to find a true friend. And, if I think about it, she never truly had a friend, except perhaps in her siblings. But even then she barely ever talked to them before Shadow.
      Its also awesome that Nightheart did that, and I love him for it. Its all because of his amazing character growth he had, mainly because of Sunbeam, that really changed him for the better.

    • @forest2727
      @forest2727 6 месяцев назад +2

      That's also great because it breaks the third wheel pattern. Yes, it's still the friend between two mates trope but Frostpaw is way more than just a good friend of the two most important cats. I wish they'd have done that with Shadowsight, instead he was just a cat that got manipulated and the other two protagonists had to save the day. That's what made his pov boring, he felt like he was less important than the rest, as if his existence was purely a stepping stone for Ashfur and then he was no longer needed other than getting bullied. Frostpaw goes through a journey of healing and figuring out the truth and then returns ready to fix things. Her pov is interesting because she's not just Splashtail's stepping stone. Through her the readers learn the truth and can sympathize with her trauma and trust issues and they can also see the growth of her character without feeling like it was rushed. Frostpaw has her own importance and she's not just a third wheel but at the same time, she doesn't make the other two characters less valuable or interesting. In conclusion, the readers can enjoy all povs and be immersed in the story.

    Ivypool as deputy is just as important as squirrelflight being leader, at least in my opinion, for three reasons. First, Ivypool is awesome, second Ivypool could eventually become leader, and finally, no lionblaze as deputy. Berryheart is also great in this arc, she's awful, but in a good way.

      I do love Nightheart a lot, the way he grew as a character from River to Shadow is just so cool. His character is probably one of the better developed ones, from starting off in River, fully believing everyone in his clan was against him, and even worse, keeping it to himself, to finding Sunbeam and finally being able to confess his feelings, and finally his biggest growth when he goes to shadowclan to be with Sunbeam, he realizes that he truly cares about his clan, now that he is able to think about it clearly. Which is actually something I do, which is probably why I loved his story.

    Thunder really cranked things up a notch, and we're only on book 4. The ending was really reminiscent of when Tigerclaw was announced as leader of ShadowClan, with Fireheart staring up at the Great Rock in horror.
    I feel so, so bad for Frostpaw. This poor, poor she cat has been lied to her whole life. She was never meant to be a medicat, and Curlfeather pushed that on her since kithood only to further her own ambition. That's cold. I love Frostpaw's character, and I love how they put her in the story. Not only this, but I might point out, that the Warriors series has always been very intense and series, usually negative in the emotions they give their characters, apart from the relationships. I like how, with the park cats, they told Frost and Night they should play with them, and how Frost realized that she didn't really know how to play anymore. It was like acknowledging that the clans are always serious, there is no time for playing and such, all very depressing after a while. I'm super excited to see what the new clan will be like, and how it will work out! Especially since RiverClan was always very peaceful and welcoming in the DotC. It all makes sense.

    There’s most certainly one more big victim blaming character that makes the others pale in comparison, and that’s Bumble. She goes out into the forest seeking refuge from her abusive housemate Tom and is sent back to her abuser after she told them that being nicer to him won’t work, being nicer to her twolegs won’t work and more treats won’t fix the fact she’s being abused (yes, all stuff the forest cats suggested because they didn’t want a fat lazy kittypet, convinced she would never survive out there and never even tried). Then when she dies at Clear Sky’s paws when she tries to survive out there anyway because SHE DOESN’T WANT TO GO BACK TO HER ABUSER, Gray Wing blames her death on her basically saying her death out in the woods was inevitable and being more worried about how cats would view his brother as a murderer.
    I do certainly agree that Frostpaw is a step in the right direction after all this time of seeing victim after victim being blamed in canon, I just couldn’t let my girl Bumble go unacknowledged because what happened to her was shitty and so much blame seemed to be laid on her or at least the cats who denied her help seemed to think she could just fix it on her own even when she said that wasn’t possible.

    There's 2 more things that happens in Thunder. The first thing is, after Squirrelflight becomes Squirrelstar, she chooses Ivypool as her deputy. You pointed out in one of your previous videos who Squirrelstar might choose as deputy, and you thought Squirrelstar might choose Ivypool as her deputy. Your assumptions were correct as Thunder reveals Ivypool being ThunderClan's new deputy. The other thing is about Reedwhisker's death. I asked two of my Roblox friends who they think could've killed Reedwhisker, and their answer was Splashtail. In Thunder, it is revealed that Reedwhisker was indeed killed by Splashtail, but there's a twist to Reedwhisker's death. Two cats were responsible for the former RiverClan's deputy's death. While it was revealed that Splashtail was Reedwhisker's murderer, there's one more cat that was responsible for Mistystar's son's death, and that cat was Curlfeather. I was not expecting Frostpaw's mother to be a killer since it was revealed in one of the previous books, StarClan chose Curlfeather to be RiverClan's new leader before being killed by dogs. She went to StarClan after her death, but after Thunder was released, she was sent to the dark forest after Reedwhisker's death was revealed. StarClan's decisions are kinda messed up. MAKE UP YOUR MIND STARCLAN

    • @endereye964
      @endereye964 7 месяцев назад +21

      I actually don’t think Curlfeather was ever in Starclan. It’s shown in Thunder that she was never chosen by Starclan to be leader, she Told Splashtail to put the curled feather by the trail. It’s another Hawkfrost situation. Thunder also makes it abundantly clear that Frostpaw NEVER had true Starclan visions until the one by the river where she saw Reedwhisker’s death. So all of Frostpaw’s visions before that point-including the ones about her mother-weren’t real. I think Curlfeather was always in the Dark Forest, it’s not a situation where Starclan let her in at first and then corrected it later. She was always there. Riverstar says she made her choice, and it’s implied Starclan knew all along what she was planning.

    I would argue the main reason we didn’t read any of the mediator meetings was because we are only privy to things that the POV’s experience, and we can’t have Sunbeam going to *every* meeting just to be a camera for us. She has her own arc she’s going through. Other characters make sure to talk about what happened during the meetings and what the outcomes were, so it’s not like we’re missing anything. Plus, Finchlight sort of describes how Tree mediates in the first place. He’s apparently truly impartial and has a knack for knowing how each leader is going to respond before they even say anything. I wouldn’t consider these writing decisions to be lazy, more so just a natural limitation from how the chapters are written and organized, which they go to the effort to write around so we get all the information we need, regardless.

    This was the first warriors book I fully analysed myself, and it was honestly very enjoyable (especially when comparing to Rverstar’s home, who even in this book managed to be a boring and unreasonable addition). I think Frostpaw working through her trauma was easily the best part-and the best character development-in the book. The park cats and Nightheart’s support helped her to ACTUALLY recover, and realise she was taken advantage of, and by the end she seemed way more confident and we know WHY. She went from being my least favourite protagonist in this arc to most favourite. This book managed to do something Warrior cats seems to have a problem with, not only healing but also becoming less anxious and learning to trust again (something Alderheart and Shadowsight didn’t get). I also think the way park cats were shown in this book is great-and when Frostpaw said that it would make more sense for the clans to stop quarrelling and live in peace, I was like “yeah Frostpaw, that’s literally what everyone’s thinking”. It was a good book.

    I really liked Thunder!! I love how they really talked about Frostpaws trauma and like was mentioned in the video, taking a stand against victim blaming. A lot of warrior cats books can feel so flat and emotionless to me- like they're sort of detached and unreal, but Thunder really had me caring for Frostpaw and devastated when I realized the book was over. Im genuinely so excited for the next book, which is a welcome surprise from just going "oh. guess that book came out today" when I realized it was November 7th earlier this year

    i just read thunder yesterday, i absolutely loved it, that journey with frostpaw and nightheart was amazing, and the plot twist with splash tail being the killer, i kind of suspected it, but it was still great, sunbeam is finally a thunderclan warrior which makes me so happy! i wish the books would stop leaving me on cliffhangers though! now i have to wait until like april next year for the next one. The new characters have all been written so well, i love sunbeam x night heart, i think it in my fav ships with bristle x root. anyways that’s all i have to say about the new book, overall this series is probably my favourite, atleast so far it is, i don’t know why but i found it funny how mistystar just drops dead, my friend and i got to laugh at that

    I'm gonna be honest, I'm surprised a plague or something else hasn't wiped some of the older characters like Bramblestar, Squirrelflight, Brackenfur, Cloudtail, Brightheart etc. A newer generation of characters to focus on would be so much more beneficial than repeatedly falling back on fan favorites that date back all the way to arc 1. It's getting so bad to a point where everyone's related, the newer characters always fall back to the sidelines and have nothing going on personality-wise, and the clans are so populated that the writers forget who is who and who is who's _____. Its been frustrating for the longest time.

If the Erin’s want to do that, they should at least incorporate more personality into it, and show growth. I know it’s hard because the main POV characters are in different clans, but that’s never stopped them before.
