I will say, I don't know what is worse, the fact Numida's tier 1 infantry unit is fucking Javelinmen, or the fact they can actually have a chance of beating Iberian infantry on their own.
@@qualityoldgames7721 I disagree, it just means they have no frontline until they finally get Desert Infantry and even then only against cavalry. They should have at least some infantry units instead of forcing them to have only skirmishers as an infantry unit. It just puts their whole roster out of whack especially because unlike other factions they get archers right off the bat with a tier 1 range. The devs just did not care about Numida or making it make sense as a faction.
I would say this unit is pretty good when you combine it with round shild cavalry and elephants as Carthage. Just don't make them a frontline, always be on the move, flank enemy units and you'll be fine
@@Craftworld_patriot mix them with slingers flanking your enemies to shoot them from the back and the will be alright, with a little luck they gain experience and start being useful
I love how a warrior with helmet and bronze breastplate has lower armor stats than a warrior in a pajama or a leather shirt at best. I mean, by the looks, they should have a slightly higher defense as they should keep the line, or go the Diadochi Total War mod way and be the best light infantry with skirmishing cappabilities around. I mean, they can barely hold the line against mediocre foes, when in real life they could keep up against republican legions
Theyre so bad theyd suck even if they were tier1. When im messing around with balancing i usually buff them to be tier 1 (for spain), with 4 armor, 3 shield, good stamina, and they STILL usually lose to a non warcry warband lol
@rorschach1985ify i didnt really wanna increase atk bc they use short swords and are militia lvl so 7 sounds right. Def skill is usually justified by ability, which again, 4 sounds fair for such a fodder unit. But yeah theres many ways to go about balancing. I also made their upkeep cheaper so theyre actually cost effective now. Also experimented with bigger unit, more morale, etc mix n match. When i make changes i also try to keep fairly true to descriptions, models, faction orientation, and history. Been doing this for many years
@@pastorofmuppets9346 Me personally I feel Milita types should not be a part of the main barracks line and should just be available from the government building like Peasants are. Would make sense since they are almost all crap and have almost no value once you get to tier 2 barracks. I would do what BI did and make peasants less able to hold public order, while having Milita types have cheaper upkeep and a trait that allows them to hold public order better than most higher tier units to give them a reason to be used. As for Iberians I fail to see how they are even meant to be Milita or how a short sword should mean they need a 7 attack when Legionnaires still use the gladius which is a short sword as well and they still get a 9 attack. I think them having a higher attack then Hastati and Principes but a weaker defense without pila would make them balanced in comparison because they will lose in a frontal confrontation but can win if they flank the aforementioned units. Giving them fast moving and Experts at hiding in woods or long grass traits would also make them more effective while fitting with their description and historically accurate because the Iberians were known for their ambushes.
@rorschach1985ify ah yeah bi had some good ideas for sure like the peasant change, but it also made some outrageous balancing decisions like having some barbarian factions, who are known for their brutal infantry, not get anything besides spear militia until TIER FOUR barracks, or the chosen axemen being disgustingly strong, or how the golden band is the worst max tier unit ive ever seen lol The reason i stuck with 7 atk for them was that even the masters of the short sword, the romans, have 7 for their hastati and principes who are also higher tier and heavier. Legionaries can get away with 9, being the best trained and equipped infantry of their time. Made more sense to me to buff their mobility and other things. I kind of made the factions a bit more distinct with where their focus is, spain has good stamina on most of its units esp compared to other barbs, and the best tech, but lower atk since theyre supposed to be half civilized kinda like thrace. Carthage for example still gets iberians only at tier 2 but they also have many more options so they dont rely on infantry as much
@@pastorofmuppets9346 I will admit that some Barbarian factions, and many faction in BI in general, should have gotten more troops by tier instead of a whole lot of nothing save for one unit. I think because there was no great reforms in BI unlike OG and because Barbarians have more tiers for buildings then in the original it meant the devs had trouble figuring out how to fill them up and they might have not had enough time to do so since there is plenty to say BI was rushed out before it completed like the fact so many unit models are unfinished and some factions were meant to be in but were left out. Chosen Axemen are only available at tier 4 barracks which if you compare to Germania in the OG is a tier above the originals so I say they are powerful enough for their tier, even if beforehand many of the factions using them had only one or two units and they were either shit or mediocre. Golden Band I think are better than you say just because while their defense is not that high, their attack is when you compare them to every other unit in the expansion and how low on average attack is in BI. I do think they should have been given a bit more to make them worth their tier 5 status though.
Carthage as also in rome2 with very weak infantry until you get to level 3 military building, in rome 1 they get decent hoplites and in rome 2 they get strong pikes, strong cav and swordsmen, but before that they only get the hoplites that pretty much suck
I wished you had made them go against Town Watch and Milita since they are also tier 1.

Yea, actually it kind of fits the faction relatively well, and offers early-game tactical flexibility :) Thanks for the comment.

Not as much as the Town Militia and the Skavenslaves combined I guess...
