Yeah, they had maxed armor and weapon damage and 3 bronze chevrons. But they're still punching above their weight. With the extra 2 morale in the remastered version, they probably would have tanked out the Early Legions. Their purpose isn't really as front line infantry. They excel at holding as a thick, defensive formation and additionally at flanking maneuvers. Even with this, they did a good job here.

They have too low a defense to hold the line and too low an attack to do serious damage to units that are not spearmen or fragile missile units. For Carthage any kind of cavalry does this job better and for Spain Naked Fanatics are designed specifically for flanking and can do actual damage for that. The fact they cost more than even legionary Cohort yet still lost all their matches, and only won 3 of theirs with the weaker Early Legions is more a sign they do not hold up even with upgrades because what's stopping someone from just upgrading their early legionnaires for the same cost? The remaster might improve them a bit but it is only by a bit and they still cost a bit more because of said upgrades.
@rorschach1985ify they're a workhorse as Spain on VH/VH. Cost efficient and don't take 2 turns to levy unlike Naked Fanatics. Whom crumple at the mere mention of missiles. Iberians are more armored and fight in a tight formation, making them great at grinding it out in a choke. And they're easier to squeeze between formations and through city streets and walls. Tighter formations make them a bit more resistant to a cavalry charge, as well. They're never the bulwark of your army. But on campaign I love to have at least 2 of them in each stack. They're great at soaking missiles and screening for your more valuable units. And when you overcome the enemy they are great at running down routers. They're a flexible force that I loved using against the enemy. I love my little Iberians.
@Dolfy yeah you can wrecking ball the enemy with half a stack of them. But that's not my style! You can just chain route every fight you're in. But my lil guys!
You know, not all units are created equal. Iberian Infantry is just shite. They are only useful in the Spanish roster but that's not because they do a good job at anything, rather, it's because there simply isn't any better alternative.

Карфаген в принципе не может получить золотое оружие и броню ,да даже когда будет серебрянное то вы уже будете нанимать элиту , а не это недоразумение , единственная их сильная сторона- дешевизна как для расходного мяса, но в компании против Рима они чаще всего будут обращены в бегство или уничтожены после 2 пилумов и вы их не раскачаете из за низкой выживаемости
Why you put only 3 lvl of skills,'couse it is possible to get with 5 lvl ,you need only build The Horseman's Temple (tbh forget how it's named ) it could be done by Spain (for this test it may be interesting) and Goul.Guess Iberians could beat early infantry of Romans without any troubles
@@janehrahan5116 try again ,find a city with emperor's palace and build temple of Epone ,the first 3 levels can be constructed in a large barbarian city ,but with palace you can build the 4 level and the 5 levels temple .You can also see it in a construction line of this temple,but I don't know whether it works in Remaster

So I took a look at this and it seems it's also possible to, as a roman, capture a city with temple_of_horse_large_temple (level 3 building) and you'll be able to upgrade it up to temple_of_horse_pantheon (level 5). I had no idea about any of this and I'm playing this game for many years. Maybe because I usually rush the Gallic an Iberian tribes.

They can only get level 3. Even with a huge city you can't upgrade past 3 for horse temple.
Carthage also can't get gold/gold btw
