He would never sit down and have those tough conversations with me, he would never express his feelings, and he would rarely put in any effort. I met my now husband in both of our active addictions. We had some mutual friends and ended up hanging out a couple of times, neither one of us were in a place to date. Both unhealthy, sick, and strung out frankly. Fast forward 7 years or so, I was working in retail and he stopped me to ask where something was, I turned around to answer his question, we recognized each other and the rest is history. We were both healthy, happy , and clean, and still are. We now have two beautiful children together and he’s the best husband and father that I ever could’ve prayed for. ❤

I’m a full time nursing student (graduate in Dec as well) and he pays the bills. The stress from being parents, college, and work has absolutely killed our relationship. I have so much personal growth to do and I feel like I won’t be able to reach my full potential while being in a relationship. There’s a lot of resentment and hostility between us but it wasn’t always like that. He says if I leave him he has no interest on getting back together, and I honestly don’t think I would either. This situation has been really hard for me to accept, especially since I can’t make any moves until I’m done with school. Sorry for the rant I just felt the need to get that off my chest. I hope you will try to make your relationship work even though there is so much happening in your life. You can grow and learn what you need to learn without breaking up. Your son doesn’t need to go through the trauma of the relationship ending. I hope you’ll be able to grow together.
I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like a very stressful time right now :( One thing that worked for me was to write everything down and make a list. What are the pros and cons of your relationship right now? At the foundation, is your boyfriend your ideal man? If you guys didn't have all of the external factors, stress, resentment, etc., would you be happy together? If so, there's probably something good there that's worth saving. If couple's therapy is an option for you, that could be a big help if you do decide to work through things. But if you could see yourself with someone else, then maybe parting ways is best. I know Rachel commented that you shouldn't put your son through the "trauma" of a breakup, but as someone who grew up with parents that were not happy and had a lot of resentment, I will tell you, the best thing you can do for your son is be HAPPY and demonstrate a happy and healthy relationship to him. Growing up in a house with constant fighting was more traumatizing, in my experience, and I would beg my parents to separate. Whatever is best for YOU, will be what's best for your children.

It’s so cute hearing people talk about their love stories and it’s obvious you’re passionate about him, it’s adorable 😊 I met my fiancé when he was building a photography portfolio, my friend was doing a gothic type photoshoot with him in a cemetery and asked me to go with her for company. I think we were both super infatuated the second we locked eyes lol, I had to get his number from my friend after that session haha. A weird coincidence was seeing someone’s headstone who shared my/our rare-ish name Helena and the last name Love. I know it’s silly but I feel like subtle little things like that is the universe throwing hints lol

The story of my relationship is very similar to yours. My boyfriend and I were together back in 2017 and were together for about a year and a half, we broke up because I was going through a lot with health issues and school stress and I was pushing him away slowly. During the time apart I did a lot of self reflection and growth. We got back together 2 years ago and it's been the best decision we've made. We are each others soulmates and meant to be. Like I said, we've discussed everything, and we're definitely on the same page. After working through things for years and everything we've been through, we wouldn't have taken this step if we weren't both sure about it. Of course there's never a guarantee, and that goes for any relationship, but no, I don't have any fears.

I’m on the hold. My life is on the hold from 2020. And I am waiting. He is working on his PHD. And we are here in the US I can’t work because of my visa situation. My career is stopped, but I have a children. I don’t have a job. I can’t work here with my children and I don’t know if I go back home to my country I will find a job right away. At the same time the idea of going back home to that city I don’t like it and I don’t want it… I want to separate but I can’t.

Oh wow, that's amazing! I do think having space to grow individually while you're young is good, but it's not always necessary for every relationship. I think there's always going to be some type of "problems" you're going to have to face and work out together, because that's part of being human, so the important thing is to be with someone that loves you enough to fight for the relationship and want to work through it. Yes, same! It's funny because when I was younger, I really only hung around people that were older or my same age. NONE of my friends were younger than me. But in recent years, most of the newer friends I've made are all younger. I just gravitate towards younger people now, and maybe it's because of where I am in my life, but I kind of love it.

My career is stopped, but I have a children. I don’t have a job. I can’t work here with my children and I don’t know if I go back home to my country I will find a job right away. At the same time the idea of going back home to that city I don’t like it and I don’t want it… I want to separate but I can’t.

I feel like sometimes fresh out of a relationship you always focus on the negatives. and i remember you seemed to want to be away from the situation when you initially moved, but it’s so great to see you so happy and being able to talk about your relationship out of love! i feel like id definitely be in this same boat if me and my current bf ever broke up lol we’ve been together 5 years and crazy story. so we actually had a college class together but we never “met” or started dating at that time lol i remember he sat right in front of me and i always thought he was so good looking and i never had the courage to ask for his number. flash forward to a a couple months later and we ended up working at the same job!!! we started talking and it just went from there lol i asked for his number first so i finally got my chance 😂
I love that!!! Not only was that meant to be, but it's such a good feeling when you have a crush on someone and you find out they're also interested in you :) And yeah, in the beginning, there were a lot of mixed emotions, and I think I purposely focused on the negative to make it easier. But to be honest, I never stopped missing us :/

Met my now husband at 17 years old, started dating at 18 years old, engaged at 22 years old and married at 24 years old. 6 years later we are still going strong, even though I sometimes wonder if the problems we have now could have been avoided had we given each other more space in our younger years. Either way we are here for the long haul, marriage is forever!

Oh wow, that's amazing! I do think having space to grow individually while you're young is good, but it's not always necessary for every relationship. I think there's always going to be some type of "problems" you're going to have to face and work out together, because that's part of being human, so the important thing is to be with someone that loves you enough to fight for the relationship and want to work through it. And it sounds like that's exactly what you have, and that's beautiful :) Thank you for sharing your experience.

Yes, same! It's funny because when I was younger, I really only hung around people that were older or my same age. NONE of my friends were younger than me. But in recent years, most of the newer friends I've made are all younger. I just gravitate towards younger people now, and maybe it's because of where I am in my life, but I kind of love it.
