    Another great study, thank Coach! Frank is from the previous regime, which managed to draft Ragnow, Jonah Jackson, Taylor Decker, and Graham Glasgow. If not for those OL pieces, I don't know our rebuild would have happened so quickly.

    • @artmeddaugh6669
      @artmeddaugh6669 Месяц назад +4

      The previous regime let Glasgow walk, this regime brought him and then paid him.

    • @WalterWhiteFootballSharing
      @WalterWhiteFootballSharing Месяц назад

      Why were the lions so friggin bad with stafford and those guys already blocking? TBH I think the new regime is some elite OL coaching. The Patriots were annoying and brady was a problem due to Dante Scarnechia coached midround picks into beasts who got rich elsewhere, while the patriots replaced them without missing a beat.

    • @WalterWhiteFootballSharing
      @WalterWhiteFootballSharing Месяц назад

      He's the hidden weapon, a man who can turn midround picks into 20 million $ men; If I was an owner Id pay that guy 20 mill a year at least. Only if he can coach up a successor since the old guy retired.

    • @brandonreder9869
      @brandonreder9869 Месяц назад +2

      Those 4 and Ben Johnson are the only things the previous regime gave us! I guess those 5 pieces are very significant pieces though. Although they did let Glasgow walk for no reason which I put as a negative mark on them.

    From what I've heard over the years, his ability to read defenses and communicate with the QB is otherworldly. Pair that with the blocking talent and I've gotta believe he's the best in the biz.

  • @daytwaqua
    @daytwaqua Месяц назад +3

    Ragnow's ability to play through pain, in addition to just being a tough mofo overall, is why he's earned "The Tank" as a nickname. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that it rhymes with his first name, that's probably a big part of it too. But yeah, he's definitely a fan favorite of Lions fans, as we are well aware of what he deals with, just to play the game he so obviously loves. We all held our collective breaths in the offseason, when there were rumors that he might retire. Luckily he announced he was coming back after like two weeks, so we didn't have to sweat it out for long. I'm not sure how much time we have left before he retires, but I'm gonna just enjoy it while it lasts.

  • @craigbaker9252
    @craigbaker9252 Месяц назад +6

    Thanks for the breakdown, I was one of those that requested it. The One Pride knows how smart, strong, quick and big picture he is. Franks light or missing practices the last 2 seasons were in part due to Frank trying to improve physically and not resting / healing the toe and back during the offseason. This offseason he’s resting / healing his body so he can participate more in the summer and season. The retirement rumors were 98% clickbait.
    I am not concerned about him retiring for at least 3-4 years.
    One Pride.

    Awesome video. Offensive lineman here. I love to see the game in the game. I would like to see a video on how the offensive line can be looked at as a unit. All working together on a play. If even one lineman fails his assignment and four succeed the play can be blown up. They have to be poetry in motion. If that makes sense.

  • @JonAlienAbides
    @JonAlienAbides Месяц назад +2

    Frank said his comments about retirement were taken out of context. He went on to say he was frustrated with all the media running with the false dialogue that he was contemplating hanging it up. After the SF game he said he needed to rest and recover and think about some things, he was specifically talking about the flip flop loss to the 49ers and the nagging toe injuries, not retirement. There is a recent interview with him that covers all this.

    The block on Vita Vea came after Ragnow badly hurt his knee but refused to come out. Neutralizing the 350-lb Vea on the goal line is a big ask for anyone, let alone a guy on one leg. Ragnow did it kneeling, which might have been an intentional technique for walling Vea off but clearly hurt like hell.

    As a Lion's fan, I'm naturally focused on the offensive weapons that continually work their magic and produce above average results regularly. I've been aware of how good Rags is for a few years, but when 22 guys are doing their jobs, or at least trying to do the job- it's hard to enjoy a virtuoso like Ragnow unless you're willing to take your eyes off receivers n RBs.

    Kickass breakdown coach.
    Thank you sir. Every video you bring my knowledge to a new level. Ragnow is the ultimate example, of hand to hand combat and a warrior in the trenches. His lead by example to the understudies, is 2nd to none. My gosh his determined strength, skill set, as well as his vision to read a defense. Did I mention his all out love of the game. His replacement will have giant shoes to fill. I feel that the our fans need to add Franks name to the hype chant during the games. Like the Jared Goff chant. I can hear it now RAGNOW, RAGNOW, RAGNOW!!! I know he deserves it, during every game. And I know he'd feel that in his heart.

    He has an inoperable toe injury that’s pretty much painful all the time. He had surgery on it a couple years ago and now he just plays with it.
    He gets regular days off practice in season to maintain the toe.
    That’s why people thought he might retire last year.
    Edit: the one on one with Vita Vea, Ragnow had just had someone roll up the back of his leg and he was basically on one leg for this play. He got a lot of local love for staying in the game and making that block to score.

    Hey Coach catching more of your content these days on premier day yet still backtracking to get it all in. Again excellent work Coach. I continue to learn from you and thus find my fan experience that much more enjoyable via your videos.
    Two observations if I may sir. First you alluded to the fact that Frank The Tank considered retirement in the off-season and most Lions fans would agree that when the Lions win their 1st SB ...C Frank Ragnow will retire a winner; hopefully moving onto the scouting staff or even Coaching Staff within the One Pride Family.
    With that in mind I was hopeful that the Lions would have gone after the top ranked Center in the most recent draft, one C Barton out of Duke I believe. Yet we all know how that worked out. Given all the pointers you made in this video ...replacing Frank The Tank will be a HUGE DEAL. Centers like this guy are truly on a once in a generation level - to my mind anyway. Any thoughts Coach? Our GM has gone after a couple of sleeper undrafted Centers UFA post Draft. You know much about either guy and which one or both might make the Practice Squad?
    Second there is little Frank The Tank could do to elevate his game playing through so much chronic pain! Regardless I would like to see Ragnow emulate the Centerman from the heyday in Buffalo under Coach Marv Levy yes? The man who could snap at any angle in the Shotgun and hit Thurman Thomas in his 1st step out of his stance with impeccable timing and percision. Have not seen that before or since.
    Other than that C Frank Ragnow is All World quality in his high level of play!
    Thanks again Coach!

    A couple of things, coach, Rags being questionable every week is by design. Him not fully practicing is part of his treatment for his inoperable toe injury that he's recently stated is being handled well because of the care. Also, on the topic of his "retirement," Rags has recently come out and said that was all media overreacting to him, saying he "needed time to think." He states that he meant he needed time to think about the '23 season before he could really talk about it.

    The dude's pain tolerance is what's baffling to me. Ragnow plays at a Pro Bowl level, literally injured (foot) on every single play. IIRC, by the time the Lions were in that NFC Championship game, Frank had like 3 or 4 fairly concerning injuries going on and he wouldn't come out. Campbell always preaching about GRIT. May as well put Frank's pic next to it at this point.
