    A good subject well covered. Just one point though ...WD40 is a degreaser. Maybe brush the blade both sides with light machine oil after sharpening.

    Great video! I tend to use the Dremel and works well but wondering about using the angle grinder instead but not that well practiced with it.
    Should I stick to the Dremel or try the grinder?

      If you value your time and want to make proper sharpening easier then ditch the dremel mate 😂, it takes a bit of practice with a grinder but worth the effort learning it 100%

      @@RJLgardensI think I might try it but don't want to damage my blades with the grinder from a slip in the wrong place.
      Any tips for a beginner using a grinder for sharpening?

      @@mattseymour8637 Ive got a few sharpening vids out on both my channels that should show some techniques to use. Buy a really cheap used trimmer/blades to practice on is your best bet

      @@RJLgardensYes I have watched various videos on RUclips on how to do it so might give it a go.
      Might try it on my older Stihl long reach ones as the blades are quite old on them.
      Do you find the sharpness lasts longer when using the grinder compared to the Dremel?

      I bought a Dremel thinking it’d be ideal, but find it fiddly & it skitters about a bit. I think his grinder method’s better all round.@@mattseymour8637

      Yeh the blade speed is fast on these. Tha angle grinder is a makita dga463z, there are cheaper ones available, just search amazon or eBay is your best bet for price, sales coming up soon as well 👍

    I would imagine a dremel with a chainsaw hone stone on would work as well. Just to get that correct angle

    • @RJLgardens
      @RJLgardens  Год назад

      Yeh it would work, not very economical though as they're not designed to take of that amount of material and probably wouldnt last very long.

    Currently looking at this trimmer, what are the quality of the blades like? They do look pretty sure about the box but just wondering if that lasts? I like the idea of a lightweight machine and High blade speed for some of the finer hedges like box etc

      The blades are not a pro set by any means but they do the job to be fair, just gota keep em sharp. This is my go to trimmer for light hedge and shrub work now 👍

    How often would they need to be sharpened?

    • @RJLgardens
      @RJLgardens  9 месяцев назад

      Depends how often you use it, best to just look at your cutting edges to see if they're sharp. If your a pro then i would say at least once a year minimum.

    What grit is the sanding disk ? and is it rigid or the flex / flapper style ?

    • @RJLgardens
      @RJLgardens  Год назад

      80 grit for normal touch ups, 60 grit for heavy sharpens and they are a flapper style

  • @robbieglobal100
    @robbieglobal100 2 месяца назад

    whoa! disengage the battery BEFORE STICKING YOUR FINGERS INTO THE BLADES!!! and then why not mention what you are using on your grinder; not telepathic and so assuming a flap wheel but what grit?

    • @RJLgardens
      @RJLgardens  2 месяца назад

      Relax officer, no fingers were harmed in the making of this video 😂. The grit will vary depending on what your blades need, anywhere from 60-120

      Had a look at your Timemaster vid on making adjustments, excellent info, thank you. Having fingers in the blades in this vid with the battery in, was hard to watch. Hope you keep doing what your doing mate, love your channel.
