I absolutely agree. It was bad for my self-esteem. I am 6 months in and I see a difference to my self-esteem. Getting older is not easy but fighting it is even harder because the grey will always come back. There is a heaviness that we let go of that is far greater than the heaviness of getting older.
I totally get it! I am in this same boat right now.. I am dying my hair for five years or so, wayyy darker then my own hair (I am a natural redhead) and I am so done with trying to mask my grey hairs and keeping up with it.. today I cancelled my hairdresser appointment and to be honest it feels liberating... yes I have some grey hairs but I also see my natural hair coming back and I love that❤ I am just tired of trying to be this certain image of myself...so now I just want to let it grow out further and see how it goes and maybe later on some subtle highlights if it really bothers me, but for now I feel this relief that I didn't dye my hair again and trying to embrace my natural hair🤗
I also got tired of the vicious cycle of dying my hair. I'm just 3 months into the grow out stage and YES awkward! But I refuse to chop it off and appreciate your positive encouragement to forge ahead. Your hair is beautiful!
Thank you, so much! The beginning is a bit awkward. But, it does get easier! Mine still isn’t all my natural color because I keep it long. I’m so excited for you as you embark on your grow out journey!! 🙌 It’s really fun the more you get to see your natural color pattern!
You look gorgeous with your natural color 💗 I stopped bleaching mine just a few years ago, and the blonde is almost gone, I'm finally happy, not pleasing everyone else, finally pleasing myself 💗
You are so kind, thank you! 🤍 I’m so happy to hear you are doing what makes you happy and loving your natural beauty, too! 🥰 It’s very freeing to let go of others’ beauty standards, isn’t it?
@@therealsheilaford It is! Absolutely 💖 My Mom was unhappy about it and made it very clear (I'm late 30's but I guess she thinks her opinion could still sway me 🙄) I had one other family member who has pushed me very hard to be blonde, and stay blonde, in the past. I don't care what they think. In the end, it's my hair and dye is very damaging 💯👍

1000% agree!!! I'm one year in and lost about 3 or 4 months of growth to cover that darn demarcation line. Then I cute about 4" off of real deadness. Hair feels better now but hate how short it is.... That's my biggest regret. I LOVE my silver/white pattern and just can't wait for everything to grow. Next "trim" I figured I'll wait till this November. I found that air drying and putting a hair oil has changed the health so that I don't have to cut. OK done with the novel. Thank you for sharing with all us silver sisters! 🌻💛
I loved reading this! Hair oil has helped my hair health a lot, too. 😊 I bet that was a freeing feeling to get rid of some of the dyed hair! Honestly, I got out of the habit of going to my stylist since I didn’t need the dye anymore. 🤣 Definitely need to schedule something soon and let go of more of the old hair. It’s definitely a very personal process, that’s for sure! Thank you for sharing a bit of your journey with me. 🤍
I am tired of my brunette color fading into brassy fried orange frizz and having to color it every month so now I am growing out the gray. I think it'll look pretty!
@@BigHeartNoBS coloring all the time was such a pain! I enjoyed experimenting with different colors. But, letting go and not HAVING to schedule those appointments every single month was so freeing! I’m so excited for you! 🥰
My hair is fully gray. I let it grow out during lockdown. It took two years to grow out fully, so I don’t think I would’ve done it if I hadn’t been so isolated for so long. Honestly, I get mixed reviews about it. But I don’t care. My hair is so much healthier than it was when I colored it.
I bet it’s beautiful! 🤩I was kind of disappointed I didn’t have more silver than I do. 🤣 I agree, I find my hair is a lot healthier since I stopped coloring, too.
Personally, I had some hair loss after Covid and had to reverse that. So, it’s hard to gauge whether or not it’s thicker than when I colored it. The hair is definitely growing back and getting thicker. And, it’s a lot healthier.
@@barbkelly9604 no. My hair has become significantly thinner since I hit menopause. That said, it did seem like the hair loss slowed down once I stopped coloring it, but it’s about half as thick as it once was.
Congratulations.. Its a very hard thing to do when you receive tons of criticism from friends and family. That's changing because so many are on the bandwagon.. Good luck.
its definately a struggle and we cant really see what it will actually look like till at least a year into growing it out. So far im loveing mine and Im 5 months in 😄

Absolutely! Personally, I love that I don’t have to spend so much time scheduling and going to get my hair colored. Just trims or cuts…when I remember 😂
Got the last of my remaining blonde hair cut off today, revealing a natural (!!) combination of silver in my crown area, followed by grays, silvers, and natural darker hues at the nape of my neck. Went from shoulder length to just above my shoulders, and minus all of that thick hair gives me naturally curly hair. A long journey to full gray, but well worth it at age 54.

In 9 days from today I will do my big chop and ditch hair dye. Why I'm going to do this? For the same reason you shared in your video.
