If I were Dylan, i always make my expectations low because you’ll never know what’s coming next unlike Vrains predictable as always. But nevertheless I still like Sevens. My weak points the same: villains and lack of tension of the characters.
It's a shame that Goha 66 got snubbed out because we could've had a great Kids vs. Adults arc in Sevens. The Goha 66 members could've been jaded and tired salarymen who lost their passion for dueling and the kids could've reminded them how fun life is through Rush Duels.
I will give some slack in saying that coming off a series like Vrains where the villains were absolutely stellar and honestly all S tier characters and villains which is a tall order to follow up and top those characters, but sadly a lot of them for sevens were definitely either not around long enough or just not very good in general which is a shame since the structure of good villains were there just never around for long enough to cement themselves as good antagonists
In fact, one of the strong points of VRAINS is the villains (with the exception of Bohman, who I consider to be a worse villain than makes the SEVENS villains look better). Although well, in VRAINS, the only ones that stood out were Playmaker, Soulburner, Revolver and the villain on duty (as much as I like AI, it feels like a villain out of nowhere for the last Season of VRAINS) Now, I'd also say that Zexal had good villains, but at the same time, they're pretty forgettable. The Tron crew is quite well-liked, but they are rarely mentioned as outstanding villains. About the Barians, they were a good antagonistic group, but most people remember Nasch and Vector as the only standouts (something similar to the Goha Siblings with Yuo and Yuga Goha) And well, Zexal's final boss is generic as hell: an interdimensional god who seeks to destroy the universe.
I didn’t really mind Goha corporation and the Top of Hexagon being fake out villains. Because they would just end up being tropes themselves with how a lot of villain groups in shounen tend to be. One big boss and his wacky underlings. So I didn’t mind Sevens breaking expectations on their villains. The problem was that they did it way too much to the point that they didn’t feel legitimate. Especially the adult characters who aside from Otes and Mimi were always portrayed as incompetent.
This might be a weird disappointment, but i wish more characters got Maximum cards. Before Fusion was the new mainstream, they could have given Gakuto and Romin Maximum cards for their specific duels and win, or even lose to showcase the Goha Siblings strength. And i really wish they created a new version of Maximum Summon since we always have something to break the Norm in the summoning Methods: Contact Fusion, Ranks Up, Accel Synchro, Reincarnation Link Summon/Link-5.
I mean, Luke, who is Yuga's main rival, didn't get a Maximum either (but Nail and Asana did get their Maximum. Roa is a rare case, but unique since the guy doesn't have Fusion Monsters or Maximum Monsters) Luke had to wait until the Manga exclusively for him to get a Maximum Monster (not to mention two unique Fusion Monsters). The funny thing is that Yuga also received a Manga exclusive Maximum (which makes the boy in general have had 4 Maximum)
Sevens lacked the villain threat alot of the other YGO animes had. Characters like Marik, Vector, Zarc or Lightning are memerable bad guys. It's an unfortunate drawback because everyone is now much more fleshed out, that a one-dimensional mustarsh twirler is out of place. Neil and Goha-Yugga sort of filled those roles, when they first became the villains in their respective arcs. Roa & Asano were always showed to be somewhat sympathetic. Nanaho didn't get much screen time and I have no idea what Otes' plan was.
I think it's a good sign when out of 10 disapointments, a lot of them have overlap, so it's only really a few big problems with the show overall. They can all be summed up by: Poor villains or 13 episode arcs causing a lot of plot elements to be rushed through. I think the Goha Siblings are my biggest disappointment. I think they're all such great characters with fun personalities but they just... don't do much. They're glorified side characters, and as much as I loved The Lukeman, I think it was a bad idea to introduce him in that arc when it was supposed to be about the Siblings vs Team Rush Duel. They just hyped them up so much with the intro and the promotional promo that I really thought they'd be fantastic villains or at least that Yuo and Yuga would live up to that, and the worst part is... Yuo and Yuga are GREAT villains who just got snubbed at the end. If we had more time of Yuo and Yuga doing evil shit, I wouldn't be as mad about where they ultimately ended up. And of course, Otes too. He was great early on, when they were building mystery about him, but when we're at the FINAL DUEL, and we still don't know anything about him, that's when we have a problem. If we just got a LITTLE bit more about him I feel he could have been great. The Sevens villains were all just short of greatness.
My number 1: Yuga Goha, I loved him as a villain the moment he whas introduced, especially disappointed me after he proclaimed he would make Luke and Yuga feel complete despair and than does nothing afterwards and gets taken back in by his other Siblings like he never did anything wrong
@@YugiohEverything My Biggest disappoint is *Polymerization not appearing in SEVENS Anime/Manga nor becoming a RUSH (LEGEND) card* ; I hope GO RUSH of Anime/Manga uses it; 2nd is That girl on the phone in E2; who's it? 3rd is Goga, Yuga @Big Duels Sevens mentioned it. 4th is Otes faking his memory lost that really makes no sense at all unlike Roa faking his memory lost. 5th is Those other masks when Roa and mimi sneaked in the office. 6th is No "real" Villan(s) at all. 7th is writers making Luke so Dumb and Goofy in SEVENS anime. 8th is Ending RUSHED. 9th is That oldman in the Romen shop being almost useless. Last is Nanahoshi and her crew swtiching sides when she could had been the last Villan.
@@lpfan4491 I meant they *hyped Fusions in SEVENS Anime/Manga even made a card "Fusion" that has 1 of the "Fusion Subsitute" effect* and the main Fusion effect card like *"Polymerization"* was never shown in SEVENS Anime/Manga nor printed as a RUSH (LEGEND) card. I no VRAINS Anime also never used it either even Monster Reborn but they had other version of Poly.
Honestly Otes losing so much hurt his worth as a final villain in my eyes. Imagine if Darkness lost 5 times before his duel with Judai or Don Thousand lost 5 times before dueling Yuma and Shark, it makes u think “ why should I view this guy as a competent threat if he’s shown me nothing to back that up
2:12 It was so dissapointing how Nanaho was just set to be Yuuga Goha's second in command ONLY for Yuuga Goha and her to get sidelined in favour of the "undo the amnesia" arc and Otes taking the main villain role, once Luke defeated Yuuga Goha 3:28 do we all agree luke should have lost his first duel vs Tiger, when he was willing to play along with Yuuou's claims that he was the Sixth Goha sibling because he didn't want to inherit the Gear company of his family
I feel the core of what disappointed people can be traced back to 2 things: 1: false 20th advertisement. We were all looking forward to seeing something that would connect all previous series like they advertise and they barely did anything like that. We only got DM themed cards, a baseball themed Utopia, and that one cat version of Odd-Eyes. No Neos, no Stardust, the Cyberse card could’ve just as easily been Plant-types, not even some Ojama cards! 2: the writers assumed only kids would be watching this and forgot that the series has an teen-young adult audience too. Kids wouldn’t care about the plot holes or the short arc or even notice how repetitive the show gets; we would. On a separate note, did they cancel dubbing Sevens? It wouldn’t surprise me considering how the only good parts of the video game we got was the voice acting (at least to me) and they clearly haven’t put out any hints of when they’re going to release the first episode or when they’re going to import Rush Duels!
I can imagine the dub dropping at a random date in 1 or 2 years. It's pretty obvious that the chances of a rush duel TCG are minimal and importing the anime for the sake of the anime is probably not a priority anymore. Did Vrains even reach europe? I missed that if it did.
it isn’t the main series writer’s fault really because tv Tokyo is the one that made him write it as a kids show more than the previous ygo series which was targeted for 9+ years old kids in japan
I'm more disappointed that we didn't get more maximum monsters after Supreme Flagship Magnum Overlord. The show focused so much on making new fusion monsters they neglected maximum monsters.
@@rocky_danger_buff5845 not to mention how they screwed over maximum monsters after fusion became a thing. They went from super imposing boss monsters that can only die to themselves to another generic threat
To be fair, Fusion is more versatile since it doesn't use up your Monster Zones. One argument for Maximums is not summoning its components individually especially as tribute fodder.
Probably the only time I forgave SEVENS doing a villain fake out was when The Lukeman basically stole Yuou's role as main antagonist, to the point the immediate first episode after The Lukeman is defeated, Yuou's siblings try to cheer him up for getting his spotlight stolen. If only because The Lukeman was so bombastic it fit his tokusatsu / ultraman thematic and was a case of Yuou's plans backfiring on him HARD. I don't count Asana, Roa and Neil as being "fakeouts" because it was kinda obvious they would be a case of "defeat means friendship". I do find annoying Roa kinda got sidelined for a timeand couldn't even play the "narcisistic friend who will eventually get humbled" role. He eventually plays that role while keeping his ego in a good way but he could have appeared more. HOWEVER Nanaho and Goha Yuuga getting sidelined almost immediately after they were set up as villains was annoying because it felt like an inferior repeat of The Lukeman and didn't even stay as secondary characters. they kinda just left the show and only barely came back at the end
My number 1 disappointment has got to be all of the Luke mystery baiting that really took off in the second arc. I think Entame and Nick-T both brought it up in a POD, but things like the Luke-Devil, Luke maybe being able to talk to duel spirits, the Kamijou bloodline ability, Miragias and whatever Luke saw in the field, the Dragias carving in Otes's base, etc... So many things felt like they were building up to some mystery/ supernatural phenomenon with Luke, but they didn't go anywhere. Second biggest disappointment is not getting to see Luke move forward from his loss. He introduced Yuga to the concept of King of Duels, but never got to move past it and find his own goal when every other character did.
I find Luke's win streak very irritating as we were approaching the end of the show (even though he was my favourite character). I would also agree that villains were not that well made but maybe that was just in the spirit of the name of the show "rush". We today are always in some kind of rush.
For me, a big disappointment is how quickly Goha Yuga dropped off as the main villain He gets released from “Swirly” , beats Yuo, loses to Luke, beats Otes and gradually gets his memories back and redeems himself I’m always going to believe that Goha Yuga was meant to be the main villain, but the writers changed their mind part way I found it strange how he started off strong , then lost to Luke before beating Otes (the main villain all along )🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I agree, for me the villains are the most disappointing thing in Yu-gi-oh Sevens because villains are one of the most important things in storytelling. I like the villains more than the protagonist.
That's an understatement if we're being honest. It feels like they went out of their way to make his motives as confusing as humanly possible. They brought up why he chose to lead Yuga to destroy the duel program instead of doing it himself, and the answer he gives just makes his motives more incoherent than if it hadn't been brought up at all.
I found it very predictable since he was revealed along with the other Goha Siblings and well, not knowing how he really looks like had to lead to something important.
One thing that disappointed me was that 4 of the 6 of the goha siblings were basically pointless. Outside of yuo and yuga goha the rest were just kind of there. Also the side character for asana group were wasted, especially dove rap because he has a tragic back story and the coolest looking ace and they did very little with him. Also I completely agree with you on luke, and the main reason why I hate him
I’m glad that at least everybody knew what yuga did for everyone I really hated that yusaku never got the credit playmaker yes but Yusaku no man there was a secret identity arc they could have used but not
It is ironic that the savior of LINK VRAINS (on more than 3 occasions) has never been recognized, despite the fact that Yusaku is not the most discreet person in his entire universe.
I could list many things but overall, my biggest disappointment is the writing for arc 6 and especially arc 7. Arc 6 dragged out the Goha Yuga reveal for too long, it had weak duels and some that didn't need to happen at all. Like what use had Luke vs Yuga r3 other than Yuga receiving another L from Luke? Tiger vs Yuga r2 seems stupid in hindsight aswell. Like Tiger never told the boys why she didn't want them helping Swirly. Her brutally defeating Yuga was supposed to be the reason for Luke dueling her later since he couldn't forgive her for how she had treated Yuga. But when we reach that point, the duel is just another disappointment for me. Arc 7's downfall was the whole memory loss subplot imo. I could write an essay about how bad it was for many characters and how much had to be retconned/forced so some things make sense (like Romin suddenly singing well despite being tone-deaf). That arc was basically just Luke doing everything to bring back the memories of the others (and yeah, he's kinda responsible for Asana and Neil remembering again too since his initial plan to bring back Gakuto's memories might have failed but it made Rinnosuke step in to duel Gakuto which inspired Galient and Sebastian to duel their "masters" too) while Yuga did nothing at all until ep 90. Heck, he, Gakuto and Roa suddenly being fine with Romin never getting back her memories was just ooc and only happened so Luke can stand out and be the hero who saves the day. Roa's reasons why he pretended to have lost his memories were stupid imo. I already mentioned Tiger vs Luke but man, what was that duel? Luke being all calm for no reason was very weird (considering he was mad at her again for insulting Yuga at the end of ep 88) but the worst thing was when he came up with some "excuse" for Tiger's shitty behavior towards Yuga in ep 76. Why all that "I can't forgive her yet" bs if it leads to nothing? And the way Nanaho and Goha Yuga were handled... They were our promising antagonists who got tossed aside for the final antag Otes. Goha Yuga in the last arc was just talking about darkness, then suddenly flying around looking unwell, back to the ground just to be kidnapped by Ko Girls and after being saved by his siblings, he returns to them. Nanaho and her servants being defeated off screen also feels wrong. And am I really supposed to believe she would smile happily to see Yuga coming back?
I would agree with u there seeing as how goha yuga was built up too be the villain for those final arcs but was just shoved away for the set up being otes being a villain for… let’s be honest no real reason just to get another otes duel. Both arcs had some good duels at least arc 7 gave us romin vs princess g which I though was okay And the final duel between Luke and yuga while short did at least give yuga a win against Luke after beating Luke again as lukeman
@@YugiohEverything just wish they could of had better use for goha yuga. Maybe still have him as the villain but control Otes and have the final 3 duels of the final arc be, yuga and Luke vs goha yuga and mind controlled otes, yuga vs Luke, and finally get a final duel with yuga and otes but they both use the sevens road archetype
I feel that it would have been better If Ohdo Yuga was revealed to be the sixth sibling. It would have been a good plot twist. They could have probably done more with that.
Dylan: I don't like when characters win too much Also Dylan: I love Akaba reigi, kaito, and yusei (all characters who barely lost even though could have lost way more)
My argument to that is Reiji barely dueled a lot in Arc V, Kaito lost and actually established Tron as a dangerous villain in the early season of Zexal and actually somewhat almost lost to Mr Heartland and Yuma did step in, and Yusei did technically lose to Kalin and at least he had character development for it in the process.
I don't mind a main character losing because it makes seem there is an obstacle to overcome. It is just Luke was driving the plot sometimes, even beating an arc villain through GohaYuga. With this mostly undefeated streak, he seemed to be the main character instead. While Yuga is just the punching bag to elevate all antagonists. Although in other Yugioh shows it would have been a side character like Aoi or Sawatari who just lost a lot to make another character look good. I wondered what if Gakuto or Romin lost another duel to elevate another character.
@@pickerjo2000 Also yuma started off as an crappy duelist but he became better and better as the show went so yuma losing a lot was realistic. Yuga on the other hand lost a lot and i dont feel his skills as a duelist improved.
Thank you Dylan for a Good Video. I agree with you on all your picks in this video. I would have to say Otes is my number 1 disappointment because I thought Otes was going to be person from the Sevens book or maybe Yuga from the future and he was not. Otes was just a crazy person trying to act out a book. He says he wants to put dueling back in the hands of children but he then tries to kill Yuga and the crew in space and not only that but for some reason he kidnapped Yuga Goha and ties up Nanaho and her group not sure what the point was for him doing that. And my number 2 disappointment was Yuga Goha because I thought he would be a good villain and he was when he was first shown to us but after the duel with Yuga and Luke his character started to die and it was sad because I really like Yuga Goha a lot and what the writers did to his character was just sad.
The biggest argument for the 13 episode arcs being able to work is the fan favorite Season 3 of GX which also used that 13 episode structure for its 4 parts
At the same time, that's just a single season split into multiple 13 episode parts, which 4 parts makes 52 episodes for the entire season. Sevens put entire seasons into one 13 episode part.
Let's actually look at the season to see if this is true. The beginning portion lasts from ep 2-15. That's 14 episodes. Then the desert world arc lasts from ep 16-26. That's 10 episodes. Going further, we have a transitional episode with ep 27 Lastly, we have the dark world-arc from ep 28-51. That's 24 episodes that contain multiple interlocking miniarcs. So basically, no, this is pretty much nonsense. These smaller arcs are of dynamic lengh, dynamic structure, are all setups and sequels to each other and even knew to have an episode outside of a longer arc for better pacing. That simply can't be done if the rule is "standalone 13 ep-packages or bust".
It feels like every modern yugioh series had a character that wins way too often -Kite should've lost to Yuma -Declan never loses until Zarc shows up -Playmaker was just too squeaky clean. I never felt like he was ever in any danger. -Yusei almost makes the list for being nearly undefeated, but he gets a pass because his opponents gave him a pretty hard time and he technically lost to Kalin. His wins felt earned
@@randomguy6230 as a kid I thought Yusei’s engine was about to explode with all the pink smoke during the duel with Bruno.Hindsight I get why he didn’t lose as Bruno is the Schwartz Bruder of the show(which is another thing they ripped off of G Gundam)
Honestly, my big disappointment was that there wasn't a Jinzo episode. Sorry, but I just don't really feel Rush Duels. Playing the actual game sounds like great fun, but the anime just doesn't sell me on it. I know it supposed to be simpler (Actual yu-gi-oh ain't child friendly lol), but it just feels like every duel plays out the same way. So y'know, a Jinzo episode would've been fun. I know that card was printed for Rush Duel.
As someone who didn't watch Sevens I still felt disappointed that no master duel was shown. I know this was made to sell rush duels but, seriously, 5Ds was not just riding duels, VRAINS was not limited to speed duels or (after the first arc) link summoning. I don't ask for a master duel in one episode out of two, but once in 10 episodes could have been welcome. Now that I mention it, was it ever established in the story is master duels still exist or why did everyone switch to rush duels?
NO no master duels.. it is Rush Duels and it's own thing. If you focus on master duel even once it has to relate to the tcg which is not what Rush Duels is trying to promote.
@@Ahloveyafuhso But, why is it wrong to remember that master duels were once a thing? I mean, they were supposed to be in episode 1. Did everyone forget about them?
@@yoman8027 It's not that it's that this series is targeted to a younger audience and made to a play a game similar but easier than the tcg. Cuz let's face it ..with all that master duel has involved with.. it has gotten a bit too complicated at times.. for some others to follow or keep up with.. there are some of us however that's been playing since day 1..and still do so we grew and adapted with the game..and still do. But right now so that duels don't die.. we gotta let the younger ones have their own version too. Besides it's not always fun playing a game with constant negates and blocking the way the tcg has gotten. At least rush duels has a nice back and forth to it.
@@Ahloveyafuhso Technically speaking...WERE Master Duels (sorry, "Goha Duels") even that complex? They didn't even have Fusion, didn't have Equips, Rituals, Quick-Plays and Continuous cards, and were still locked into the one-Normal-Summon-per-turn, one-draw-per-turn of the standard game. "Rigid" I can buy, but duels in their world don't seem like they would have been much to look at.
@@christopherb501 Ironically Goha Duels were so slow. Look at how everyone's decks flowed good as if they were designed in-universe as if Rush Duels already existed. Such as weak stats(1600 ATK for a tribute??). None of their decks would function in a regular game. Its ironic since the regular game was becoming too fast.
Honestly, my biggest disappointment? Master of Sevens Road. This was supposed to be the ultimate protagonist monster, the strongest of all the Sevens Roads, this was pretty much supposed to be the one of the most badass things ever. And what happens? He loses in his debut duel without accomplishing much. Now this isn't exactly the 1st time in the series this happened, there were plenty of boss monsters with a not so stellar introduction. However, this is the worst for 2 reasons. 1: This is the protagonist's ace monster. Nothing more needs to be said here. 2: After this duel, Yuga only had 2 duels left and in neither of them he summoned Master of Sevens Road. And I actually predicted this to happen, and I wish I was wrong. After Yuga's duel against Roa we never saw MoSR ever again. With all this put together, they made a monster that, rather than looking like the most awesome thing ever, ended up looking like nothing but an embarrassment.
Honestly I agree. It was worse in the manga because Yuga debuted it in the final duel, and it lost. Despite Luke using different fusions in the Manga and Yuga using a different Maximum, he didn't get another fusion and Master of Sevens Road got robbed of glory again
No joke I forgot, completly, that Goha Six Six and Top of Hexagon existed. I think i even saw those old mens in the final ep and thought: who were these guys?
Honestly disappointed that the Tops of Hexagon didn't matter at all except Mimi. Like I expected them having a comeback like the Big 5 in DM but they never did...
@@mikai4738 They are bascially the chess pieces from Vrains. Feel like the writers decide not to use them at all and replaced them with Goha Six later on because Goha Six have similar age to the main protagonist group.
@@matts5164 At least the chess pieces had some "threatening" aura while the Tops of Hexagon felt more comedic pretty early on. But yeah, both were ditched eventually which is a bummer.
One of my disappointments was tied to Mr.Goha. I was hoping to see the guy who was originally the president before he collapsed and died. In addition, I thought Mr.Goha was going to be more of a threat, especially in that episode where that insect card was slipped into Mimi's deck and Mimi got possessed.
I definatly agree that the 13 episode structure is very frustrating. But I always saw it as them trying to make the show more digestible for kids while also making it easier to market the Blu rays with each set containing a self contained arc. I also don't see them ditching that formula for GR unfortunately. But we'll see.
I'm surprised that he hasn't done that already since those shows ended a long time ago and he already did top 10 disappointment videos for Arc V, Vrains and Sevens after those shows ended (I don't mean anything I said in a bad way, just pointing something out).
*DM:* Filler *GX:* Winged Kuriboh not having significant role *5D's:* Crow replacing Aki's role as tertiary duelist. *Zexal:* While I enjoy the Don Thousand duel, he is the most generic Final Boss.
Season 0: Half of the first 20 episodes is effectively filler, most of which never comes back. Also, Shadi's entire thing never comes back because Toei simply didn't bother to push some sort of reference into the last two episodes. "Not our responsibility that the anime is dead, lol" DM: The main villains of the last two seasons sadly suck, completely ruining those arcs to some degree and an actually pretty well developed villain was utterly wasted.(Guess which one) And Mai's characterassassination when they made a decent setup for good original content and closure to her character. GX: "What do you mean the Series lied about the consequences?" 5Ds: Leo and Aki getting screwed out of their relevancy, Z-One's backstory, divine being revived offscreen for no valid reason which is taking away closure from that plotline because lol. Zexal: Really depends on what one considers a disappointment. What I heared a couple of people say is that the ending is too happy for all the tragic shenanagans that had happened until that point.
Missed opportunity to say "top seven" disappointments in Yu-Gi-Oh sevens. Either way. It's just a young kids show but with good writers who remember every plotline early on. After roa I got tired of it
Yuga losing streak was bad as it was done to try and bulid up the villains, but he lost so much that it never felt special and was just overused. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a plot point, and Yuga used it to grow as a character and duelist, but it was just a joke.
I never watched the show but I checked on the Disney channel RUclips channel and the videos about it can’t even hit 20k views while other show clips like Phineas and ferb, Big city greens, Ducktales, etc have been getting atleast twice or at max teo hundred times the amount. It just shows that not that many people care about the show
The entire show Sevens was a disappointment for me. During the first 12 episodes I thought it was going to be good, but then everything went down the toilet.
I agree with all of these. I really feel like we'll get more explanation on Otes in Go Rush. There has to be a reason for all the different versions of the Sevens characters. But to look at Sevens as an isolated series, yeah, Otes is super disappointing. His motives needed to be explained.
Not in any order, but here are some of mine. 1. Only 2 openings and endings (I think there could've been 2 for each season instead of 1) 2. Yuga's dueling record/character. (It's one thing for Yuga to not be the best duelist in the show, but it's another thing for Yuga to have almost 10 losses and not really enough wins to make him look like a capable duelist. Not just that, but it almost feels like the writer completely shafted him at some points. It's like they made Yuga, decided to make Luke the main character at some point, remembered that they had to make Yuga do something, and had a difficult time coming up with what that something should be. There were points early on where Yuga said that he wasn't interested in becoming the king of duels, only to change his mind after he dueled Roa. Then he would keep going back and forth on whether he wanted to become the king of duels or not. Not only was his dueling record bad, but his development as a character wasn't as good as the rest of our main cast.) 3. The villains (Yuga and Yuo were good, but definitely a little underwhelming. The show spent so much time hyping up the 6th Goha sibling, and when Goha Yuga finally revealed himself to be that threat, he just left the plot abruptly to make room for the Otes plot point. Nail and Asana were good as antagonists, but I wouldn't really call them villains per say. Yuo was great early on when he blindsided everyone by introducing fusions and even getting Luke to join his side, but I would've like to see a little more from him.) 4. The Goha Corp. (Mr. Goha and the Top of Hexagon felt completely pointless as characters. Only Mimi was really relevant between that group, and even she was more like a gag character.) 5. Otes' character (He was a mysterious character since episode 1, but I felt like his motivations and reasons for being didn't warrant him being that looming threat in the shadows. He didn't even win a single duel throughout the entirety of the show. We waited so long to know why he opposed Goha Corp so much, chose Yuga to inherit the Sevens Road monsters, let him install rush duels, and was constantly watching over him, but the show didn't really deliver.) 6. 13 episode arcs (Having shorts arcs can be a good thing, but when every single arc in a show is structured like that, it really limits your options in terms of writing as a result of trying to cram everything in that small timeframe. We got a duel between Bakuro and Hunt, a second Luke vs Bakuro duel, a completely unnecessary third duel between Yuga and Luke, and a duel between Gakuto and some guy dressed up as a zombie who is never even seen or heard from again when they could've spent that time having other matchups that made a lot more sense.)
That's a problem with Yugioh in general, or really anything with a variable quantifiable to the audience that can run out. The 'dramatic' trope of surviving by the skin of your teeth when you have barely any time/essentia/etc left is a drearily common one.
There's a chance GO Rush will have 13 episode arcs too, unfortunately. I just hope the newly introduced recurring characters of GO Rush will get more duels than the recurring characters of Sevens. Outside of the main 7, most of the recurring characters got 2 duels or less & honestly I'd wished Yoshio or The Ramen Ninja had gotten to duel at least another time. Also Dylan, will you make a video on the Silhouette Monsters that were shown in the updated GO Rush opening?
Alright, now we can cross Top 10 BEST Duels of SEVENS and Top 10 DISAPPOINTMENTS of SEVENS off the list. On what's left on the list: - Top 10 WORST Duels of SEVENS. - Top 10 BEST characters of SEVENS. Personal favorite that I hope will happen: - Top 10 BEST Rush Duels Monsters (SEVENS ver)
My Top 7 Disappointments: 7. 20th False Anniversary 6. Neil & Asana closure duels 5. 13 episode arcs 4. Lack of anything Goha related & Villains all togethers 3. Forgotten Maximum 2. Lack of Yuga 1. Overload of Luke
The 7th one is one of my huge issues with Sevens honestly. It was literally stated to celebrate 20 years of the anime but instead they essentially alienated the old fans for the sake of new younger players by ditching Master Duels. I get they want to make a new form of the game but they picked the worst time ever to do that.
So I had just finished Sevens literally like 2 days ago and I agree with a lot of this. I think the thing I hated, or disliked the most was just the bunch of possible development not used. The one that always comes to mind from this is Yuga Goha where I believe in the short time he was kidnapped and after being set free he shouldn't have just immediately went to the siblings. I mean I know the series was ending and all and there was like 3 episodes left at this point but I feel like they had the time to invest a little bit of boost to the guy cause to be honest he's the one that come back into sevens cause I was like "Oh I have to see this man duel" and it's disappointing how quickly he goes to helping all of his siblings without any dialogue in between. This and Luke in general I guess we're my only issues. Luke while I did like him felt like the way they wrote him made him seem like in my eyes he was the main character and not Yuga. Yuga handled all the maximum stuff with Nail and Asana but lost a good chuck of duels (Which I do think is fine, maybe 1 or 2 too much for my taste but eh), but Luke, he pretty much got Yuga Goha's climatic fight all to himself. I think they should've done Luke starts began Yuga literally called him a threat and it would make more sense for him to get rid of him first. At this point the duel would just play out like it did but with reversed situations, or maybe that one's just me since he was closer to him I could see arguments where it was done right. But I won't say Luke's wins weren't all completely for nothing because sometimes they have really good development behind them, (my personal favorite of this being his matches before Romin goes against Princess G cause you get to see a more serious Luke).
Ooh! I got one, and it's one Dylan agrees with from what I can recall of his reviews/podcasts! The character development between Roa and Getta/Ushiro being consistently glossed and rushed.
9. I figured she'd end up fighting Ranze since Ranze was the one who pointed out how she's an evil ninja as opposed to her good ninja status. 8. I'm fine with it, and I call him "King of the Joeys" because of it. 6. There are 80's cartoon villains more competent than the majority of Goha, I'm talking Skeletor, Cobra Commander, and Shredder levels of 80's cartoon villains incompetence. Or if you think that those guys aren't worthy of ridicule, than Dr. Doofenschmirtz from "Phineas and Ferb" is more competent than him. 4. Yeah, half of them got shafted, and one of the ones that did get shafted was undefeated. 3 and 2 (and a bit of 6). Yeah, the villains were either all Kaibas who turned good after being beaten, random filler people, or Otes who was playing the long game like Bakura. 1. I'm not too familiar on what else this studio has done, but it does feel like they do work on a bunch of 12-13 episode series/seasons since that seems to be how long most anime series/seasons are these days, with some of them later going on to last longer like My Hero Academia. Luckily after the first "season"/52 episodes/4 13 episode arcs they did seem to realize that they could longer story arcs (or it could be that I wasn't counting/paying attention/unclear of when one arc starts and another begins) so hopefully it won't be a problem. Although if they do still do 13 episode arcs, they might be able to make it work with a new invading party coming in every arc. Granted it's still formulaic, but it could work. My personal disappointments that weren't on this list are the mystery behind all the different blonde girls and how we didn't get any explanation for why Otes hired them all, and all the clip shows. They were funny clip shows at times, but still too many clip shows.
Certainly agree on the closing duels for Neil and Asana. Who DIDN'T want to see how Nail overtakes a Maximum without one? Yuga losing too much, definitely. Cut out the third duel with Luke, at least. Probably Tiger too, given the lack of rationale behind it. I might not even mind how much he lost if not for how EASY a loss for him was to see coming.
9:00 I don't think they could have done that though? Luke (who apparently has a maximum in the manga but not in the anime? Also he's apparently the Manga's main protag instead of Yuga, which while not likely to be a factor might be?) is canonically a better duelist than Yuga, and arguably the best duelist of the main Seven for most of the series save Nail. With them making Luke basically a prodigy in duel monsters and Yuga basically average at it (at least in the beginning), with only being the creator of the Rush Duel format and having REALLY GOOD FRIENDS his only real assets as a duelist for most if not the entire series, it actually wouldn't make sense for Luke to lose but Yuga to win without it feeling cheap. That, or something along the lines of: "You always lose to Luke but somehow beat the person who beat him? This isn't rock paper scissors!"
Goha siblings needs more moments, I liked ep 68 for Yuo's birthday why not with Yuga Goha more scenes like this with happiness ? Yes Nanaho, the Ladybug vilain why ? The twist ok but how does she end ? Nothing ? I agree for the most points you talk, I should add Asana and Tiger why no more friendship moment with them ? Am I the only one ?
biggest disappointment luke never dueled asana, neil, romin or gakuto. Not doing more for the luke romin ship. Gakuto in general. Yuga never rematching you or evil yuga. Asana, roa, and neil needed more duels let. Lastly villans in general.
10) Yeah I can't argue with you there. Nail and Asana probably should've went up against the Siblings or someone tied to Goha. Maybe Asana vs Yuro or Yuran and Nail vs Goha Drone? 9) I agree with Nanaho, heck the whole branch family with Gakuto thing could've made an solid arc in it of itself. She never even got a match with Gakuto which probably could've given him a even better send off duel. 8) & 7) & 3)fair. 6) Granted they f-ed over Asana's family, Mimi, and a few others though yeah, they could've been a bit more of a threat. 5) Same it didn't bother me too much, maybe balancing Yuga & Luke. 4) Yeah if Yuran and Yuro got one more duel, it would've been better. The Lukeman twist was good but it did over take their role for a bit. 2) All they need to do for Otes say, "my family founded Goha and all this company done has destroyed my reputation, just as the Sevens Road story my great grandfather worked on with the Mutsuba's created." That answers at least two questions. 1) Honestly I'm a little torn on this. Before and After Zexal, YuGiOh's suffered from arc fatigue and the 13 episode arcs actually allowed the writers to tighten the writing instead of giving us 2 episode duels every single time to pad out the story and plot. I do agree it affected the tournament, Goha Siblings arc, and the final two arcs a bit, but it kept things consistent and without feeling too slow or time wasting like other YuGiOh series. Though I do agree the arcs should probably be about 20 episodes going forward. Overall good list. If we had two more arcs (or seven more lol,) some of these wouldn't be so bad. But at least these didn't ruin the series for me.
I completely disagree with the Luke win streak... it was clear from the start that he would be the final opponent for Yuga to beat... and they, in my opinion, handled it well enough...
I do want to say, for a number of these I could kind of point to covid as another culprit? Like, some stuff is valid and I agree the villains were not as great (I do like them better than most but I can see why); but if we look at the various delays around the start of the show because of the pandemic we can probably infer that the writers realized they'd have to rush through or even cut some things to be able to finish telling the story they wanted; which I think they still did quite well.
Because Sevens was worse than Vrains overall. Vrains had many disappointments but was, overall, a good series. The conflict, characters, duels, stakes were all good. But the things that were disappointing about Sevens were part of the reason why it wasn't a good series.
Is this anime worth watching And by that I mean all of Yu-Gi-oh not just sevens. And also do I have to watch all of the Yu-Gi-oh anime series or can I just watch one that I'm interested in or like?
I think you notice a pattern very quickly here with all the dissapointments. Being that charackters are hyped up and then arent what people thought they were or hoped they were suppossed to be. The entire show is just a fun ride with NOTHING serious in it or rather nothing you should take seriously. I disliked the show from the start because as what it was suppossed to be, it wasnt for me. But I get the feeling people that kinda liked it were still hoping for very serious villains and all that, because thats what most of your dissapointments are Dylan.
Sorta feel like due to the season being dumbed down for a younger audience, a lot of things were shortened and kept vague as they might assume that kids' attention span is very low and might not be paying attention. Hard to hold it up to the same level as the older gens when the audience is more clear on who its aimed at. Doesn't make it right as many "kids" shows are handled much more maturely and shows like this just show that companies are willing to go the cheap route and go for something short and stuff it with humor. I feel Go Rush is getting more of that treatment
The villains were probably the biggest disappointment for me. They were comedic pushovers for the most part. Yuo was the only "good" villain and the writers replaced him with The☆Lukeman and I was NOT a fan of that decision. The entire Lukeman thing was kinda dumb honestly.
#1 the whole Sevens anime No seriously, for me it was a huge letdown, nothing major ever really happened. Humour was too much. At least Go Rush looks to be more interesting.
@christopherb501 Arc-V's biggest problem is; that it was meant to be an anniversary season but Dark Side of Dimension took most of the animators hence why during the synchro arc, most of the animation looked unpolished when it aired. Also, it had a roadmap, but the budget was used on the movie instead of the anniversary season, which also led Vrains to have issues as well. Japan has this problem when it comes to celebrating series when it reaches a milestone. They celebrate it by rushing everything as possible, and then as the anniversary is over, they go back to being taking things seriously again. How do I know this mainly because I have seen it before, for example Super Sentai and Kamen Rider anniversary seasons are either loved or hate it but the common reason is that they straight up rush things when they have good ideas but overshadowed by trying to have callbacks.
I’ve said this before, one of the biggest issues with Sevens was that they cycled through villains too quickly
That’s true, DM, 5D’s and Vrains had my favorite villains
In fact, one of the strong points of VRAINS is the villains (with the exception of Bohman, who I consider to be a worse villain than makes the SEVENS villains look better).
Although well, in VRAINS, the only ones that stood out were Playmaker, Soulburner, Revolver and the villain on duty (as much as I like AI, it feels like a villain out of nowhere for the last Season of VRAINS)
Now, I'd also say that Zexal had good villains, but at the same time, they're pretty forgettable. The Tron crew is quite well-liked, but they are rarely mentioned as outstanding villains. About the Barians, they were a good antagonistic group, but most people remember Nasch and Vector as the only standouts (something similar to the Goha Siblings with Yuo and Yuga Goha)
And well, Zexal's final boss is generic as hell: an interdimensional god who seeks to destroy the universe.
@@brunosanto3488 ARC-V has potential for having great villains too but we know why it didn’t work out.
@@FireFury190 You can give them more menace while still having them be fakeouts. Early on I had them pegged for a midboss essentially
Roa is a rare case, but unique since the guy doesn't have Fusion Monsters or Maximum Monsters)
Luke had to wait until the Manga exclusively for him to get a Maximum Monster (not to mention two unique Fusion Monsters).

@@silentvoice6737 exactly I hate zarc
TBH, I think a lot of the second seasons problems come down to IRL events...
My number 1: Yuga Goha, I loved him as a villain the moment he whas introduced, especially disappointed me after he proclaimed he would make Luke and Yuga feel complete despair and than does nothing afterwards and gets taken back in by his other Siblings like he never did anything wrong
Yeah I think its totally fair to have that one at the top of your list

Otes yes, mimi, not as much
i mean if you count flashback duels otes has won a total of six times vs luke other then that it was just L after L
Honestly Otes losing so much hurt his worth as a final villain in my eyes. 2:12 It was so dissapointing how Nanaho was just set to be Yuuga Goha's second in command ONLY for Yuuga Goha and her to get sidelined in favour of the "undo the amnesia" arc and Otes taking the main villain role, once Luke defeated Yuuga Goha
3:28 do we all agree luke should have lost his first duel vs Tiger, when he was willing to play along with Yuuou's claims that he was the Sixth Goha sibling because he didn't want to inherit the Gear company of his family
God! I thought I was the only one who noticed that Yuuga lost a tad too many duels for a Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonist lol
I feel the core of what disappointed people can be traced back to 2 things:
1: false 20th advertisement.
Ikr maximum monsters are really cool
@@rocky_danger_buff5845 not to mention how they screwed over maximum monsters after fusion became a thing. They went from super imposing boss monsters that can only die to themselves to another generic threat
Same here. I wanna see some new Maximum monsters for the other characters like Romin, Gakuto, and Tiger
@@anthonythomas305 I actually came up with a max for Luke when he was obsessed to get one, but he only used yuga once
For me, a big disappointment is how quickly Goha Yuga dropped off as the main villain
He gets released from “Swirly” , beats Yuo, loses to Luke, beats Otes and gradually gets his memories back and redeems himself
I’m always going to believe that Goha Yuga was meant to be the main villain, but the writers changed their mind part way
I found it strange how he started off strong , then lost to Luke before beating Otes (the main villain all along )🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Yep, totally agree with everything you said on Goha Yuga
I agree, for me the villains are the most disappointing thing in Yu-gi-oh Sevens because villains are one of the most important things in storytelling. I like the villains more than the protagonist.
I'm a big fan of the role Otes played in the story, but his motives weren't explained coherently enough.
I just thought that Swirly actually being Goha Yuuga was the worst plot twist I actually saw in my life.
Also I completely agree with you on luke, and the main reason why I hate him
Yuga Goha especially, he came over as this truly evil villain but after his lost he didn't do anything anymore, such a let down
The other 5 Hexagons were wasted too.
Mimi was the only one of the 6 that dueled while the other 5 existed only to be fodder for Neil apparently.

I’m glad that at least everybody knew what yuga did for everyone I really hated that yusaku never got the credit playmaker yes but Yusaku no man there was a secret identity arc they could have used but not
It is ironic that the savior of LINK VRAINS (on more than 3 occasions) has never been recognized, despite the fact that Yusaku is not the most discreet person in his entire universe.
you should make a video ranking every yugioh series (also keep up the good work your videos really make my day.)
Both arcs had some good duels at least arc 7 gave us romin vs princess g which I though was okay
And the final duel between Luke and yuga while short did at least give yuga a win against Luke after beating Luke again as lukeman
Yeah there were certainly moments in those last two arcs that felt sloppy, def agree with you on that
@@YugiohEverything just wish they could of had better use for goha yuga.
Dylan: I don't like when characters win too much
Also Dylan: I love Akaba reigi, kaito, and yusei (all characters who barely lost even though could have lost way more)
yusaku: phew
My argument to that is Reiji barely dueled a lot in Arc V, Kaito lost and actually established Tron as a dangerous villain in the early season of Zexal and actually somewhat almost lost to Mr Heartland and Yuma did step in, and Yusei did technically lose to Kalin and at least he had character development for it in the process.
Luke was one of his favorites too.
The problem is that Luke duels were not as exciting at times
@@randomguy6230 wow yusaku is so forgetable i forgot him

I don’t know when you compare to Yuma. It makes you forgive the loses Yuga got
@@Orionsword_ but Yuma got the wins by the end, even Halfway through Zexal he was winning tournaments

I got a cardboard cutout of the salaryman in my attic
Going further, we have a transitional episode with ep 27
Lastly, we have the dark world-arc from ep 28-51.
It feels like every modern yugioh series had a character that wins way too often
-Kite should've lost to Yuma
-Declan never loses until Zarc shows up
-Playmaker was just too squeaky clean. I never felt like he was ever in any danger.
-Yusei almost makes the list for being nearly undefeated, but he gets a pass because his opponents gave him a pretty hard time and he technically lost to Kalin. His wins felt earned
Yusei should have lost to bruno on their first duel. Also declan lost in episode 13 because he did forfeit the duel against yuya.
You should play some Rush duels, in the anime they were so scripted that they don't feel like real duels.
It wasn't the first monster to had this offense. Others that share this are Rainbow Neos and Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon.
Honestly I agree. It was worse in the manga because Yuga debuted it in the final duel, and it lost. Despite Luke using different fusions in the Manga and Yuga using a different Maximum, he didn't get another fusion and Master of Sevens Road got robbed of glory again
@@cozzillagaming1869 Did Yuga at least win the duel?
I would have added the dip Tiger's character took in the last two arcs. I just did NOT get what she was doing.
Right?? Unreal how they just are so forgettable
@@mikai4738 Don't mind comedic villain at all, all that matter is the execution and like you said they weren't great.
Hopefully the studio have learned their lesson and planned their 13 episodes structure better in Go Rush.
Yuga losing a lot and Luke winning along with Luke taking over The Goha Yuga duel really made me going Cards😡
Can you make videos about the rest of the Yu-Gi-Oh shows Original GX 5ds zexal top 10 disappointments about them
yeaa!! would love that! oh and Aki treatment would at least be number 3 in 5ds!
I'm surprised that he hasn't done that already since those shows ended a long time ago and he already did top 10 disappointment videos for Arc V, Vrains and Sevens after those shows ended (I don't mean anything I said in a bad way, just pointing something out).
*DM:* Filler
*GX:* Winged Kuriboh not having significant role
*5D's:* Crow replacing Aki's role as tertiary duelist.
"Not our responsibility that the anime is dead, lol"
DM: The main villains of the last two seasons sadly suck, completely ruining those arcs to some degree and an actually pretty well developed villain was utterly wasted.(Guess which one) And Mai's characterassassination when they made a decent setup for good original content and closure to her character.
GX: "What do you mean the Series lied about the consequences?"
5Ds: Leo and Aki getting screwed out of their relevancy, Z-One's backstory, divine being revived offscreen for no valid reason which is taking away closure from that plotline because lol.
Zexal: Really depends on what one considers a disappointment. What I heared a couple of people say is that the ending is too happy for all the tragic shenanagans that had happened until that point.
My biggest disappointment is that they did not do yo Goha Yuuga what they did to Earth. It would have made Otes threatening
SEVENS villains are the most underwhelming villains of every Yu-Gi-Oh! show. I completely agree with your list of disappointments.
The problems is that SEVENS was an episodic series rather than a linear like the previous.

Considering how Yusaku never lost, I prefer Yuga losing since it felt more real to the game. Not everyone wins all the time.
I guess the issue is when he is losing way often too close together. If it was a bit more spread out I don't think people would mind much.
I personally prefer Yuga winning most of his duels while still getting a loss at times like with Yugi, Jaden, Yuma and Yuya.

The 13 episodes arcs probably was TV Tokyo’s decision and bridge done this as this what they wanted.
1. Only 2 openings and endings (I think there could've been 2 for each season instead of 1)
2. Not only was his dueling record bad, but his development as a character wasn't as good as the rest of our main cast.)
3. Yuo was great early on when he blindsided everyone by introducing fusions and even getting Luke to join his side, but I would've like to see a little more from him.)
4. The Goha Corp. (Mr. Goha and the Top of Hexagon felt completely pointless as characters. Only Mimi was really relevant between that group, and even she was more like a gag character.)
5. Otes' character (He was a mysterious character since episode 1, but I felt like his motivations and reasons for being didn't warrant him being that looming threat in the shadows. He didn't even win a single duel throughout the entirety of the show. We waited so long to know why he opposed Goha Corp so much, chose Yuga to inherit the Sevens Road monsters, let him install rush duels, and was constantly watching over him, but the show didn't really deliver.)
6. 13 episode arcs (Having shorts arcs can be a good thing, but when every single arc in a show is structured like that, it really limits your options in terms of writing as a result of trying to cram everything in that small timeframe. We got a duel between Bakuro and Hunt, a second Luke vs Bakuro duel, a completely unnecessary third duel between Yuga and Luke, and a duel between Gakuto and some guy dressed up as a zombie who is never even seen or heard from again when they could've spent that time having other matchups that made a lot more sense.)
you should make a video ranking your favorite themes and OSTs from the anime!
I say the biggest disappointment was the duels as soon as someone hit 500 or less you knew they were going to win next turn
That's a problem with Yugioh in general, or really anything with a variable quantifiable to the audience that can run out. The 'dramatic' trope of surviving by the skin of your teeth when you have barely any time/essentia/etc left is a drearily common one.
Yuga was just making up for Yusei's winning streak in 5Ds.
LOL and Yusaku's in VRAINS
@@YugiohEverything let's hope yuhin dosent follow in his fathers footsteps when it comes to dueling
You already had yuma for that
There's a chance GO Rush will have 13 episode arcs too, unfortunately.

My Top 7 Disappointments:
7. 20th False Anniversary
6. Neil & Asana closure duels
5. 13 episode arcs
4. Lack of anything Goha related & Villains all togethers
3. Forgotten Maximum
2. Lack of Yuga
Can you make a video of Jaden, Yusei, and Yuma meeting Arc V Aster, Arc V Alexis, Arc V Crow, Arc V Jack, and Arc V Kite please I beg you
9:00 I don't think they could have done that though?
My list.

biggest disappointment luke never dueled asana, neil, romin or gakuto.
I just cackled very hard at this 5:27
OF COURSE 🤣
I do want to say, for a number of these I could kind of point to covid as another culprit? Like, some stuff is valid and I agree the villains were not as great (I do like them better than most but I can see why); but if we look at the various delays around the start of the show because of the pandemic we can probably infer that the writers realized they'd have to rush through or even cut some things to be able to finish telling the story they wanted; which I think they still did quite well.
For me, the entirety of Sevens was a bitter disappointment.
I agree
My biggest disappointment is it not getting an official release overseas.
I rewatched the disappointments video for vrains and I actually feel like sevens disappointments were worse than vrains.
Because Sevens was worse than Vrains overall.
Vrains had many disappointments but was, overall, a good series. The conflict, characters, duels, stakes were all good. But the things that were disappointing about Sevens were part of the reason why it wasn't a good series.

I guess this was a... RUSH DUEL!... I'll see myself out.
I’m guessing dyl don’t like teá cuz she never lost
goha yuga and our yuga not being the same person. it disappointment me alot
That is pretty wild 8:20
Also Dylan yuga is the only protagonist to lose in the final season of his series which no protagonist has ever done before
The villains were probably the biggest disappointment for me. They were comedic pushovers for the most part. Yuo was the only "good" villain and the writers replaced him with The☆Lukeman and I was NOT a fan of that decision. The entire Lukeman thing was kinda dumb honestly.
Yeah hopefully Go Rush really has some stellar villains

@@christopherb501 makes sense.
I feel like SEVENS it a basically trying push the new cards too much like I know the anime is mean to do that but SEVENS it was pretty obvious.
Still beats how disdainfully commercial Arc-V became.
