Compared to a lot of other main antagonists, he was actually more or less fair in his dueling - at least until he started spamming hand traps against Soulburner and Master Storm Access Link-5s against Playmaker. In the latter case, even the great Playmaker needed outside help to have ANY chance against Bohman because of how broken the latter's skill was.

Aoi's motivation may not have depended on loving the main protagonist, but it did depend heavily on her brother's approval and/or admiration. Even at the end, everything about her just about revolved around her brother, whom, I will point out, had more of an impact on the plot than her, yet he's not even in the main cast. Whether this situtátion is better or worse than the previous leading ladies I guess depends on each individual.

  • @phonepup06

Great video, Dylan! I think it's important to realize that a series isn't perfect, and bring in what you (and others) would have wanted to see. You can love something and have things to change for it.
Regarding the openings, I think that seeing the image relating to the Millennium Items while not having it involved in the show at all.
I think that if Aoi had dueled Spectre again and won, then that would've been a huge victory for her.
If you think about it, we couldve had another full mini arc from the episodes we had in recaps.
I know they wanted to highlight links in VRAINS. But one of the main points of links is to bring out other extra deck monsters.
Seeing AI and Spectre talk about Earth would've been really very interesting. And we would've been able to probably know more of his mindset about his ignis while hating most AI.
Even just seeing a slice of life episode about how Yusaku lives on his own while spending a lot of time in school and dueling.
I know that it may be a bit too dark for Yugioh show, but hearing about a cycle of abuse or even bad judgment that victims sometimes can't espace (especially without support) from Yusaku would've been deep. And we did see that a bit, but not really.
SOL seemed built up in season 2 with Queen, but nothing came of it :o

  • @larapintaric9438
    @larapintaric9438 5 лет назад +4

I majorly agree with all points except really for Yusaku's wins. You mentioned that compared to Yusei he has no losses since Yusei had one in a flashback, but what about all the losses during the Lost Incident??? Yusaku even developed PTSD from that many losses so it is not really true that he has zero losses. As much as I also wanted to see him lose and react to it I'm also kinda annoyed when people say he has zero losses - he doesn't and he has a perfectly good reason for that - he is too traumatized to lose and many times he was shown to be struggling to win, especially the fourth duel with Ryoken, duel with Kusanagi and duel with Ai.
I think this thinking originates from the fact that every protagonist so far had to deal with a heavy loss (Yami after the duel with Rafael when losing Yugi, Judai after losing to Edo, Yusei after nearly losing to Kiryuu, Yuma after losing Astral multiple times and Yuya after losing to Reiji and Jack) so it was kinda expected for Yusaku as well. But the thing is - Yusaku was dealing with this heavy loss from the start - Lost Incident. Before it, he was a happy kid loving life and his favourite card game, but Lost Incident took that away from him so all of those losses contributed to one heavy loss he had to deal with throughout all 120 episodes. It is also possible that all of his wins are meant to be a contrast to his own life where he is constantly dealing with loss and being afraid of losing even more. The whole reason why he was so reluctant to make friends was that he was scared of losing them so rather than dealing with a loss he just acted alone as much as possible. It may not be too obvious but it was shown many times: Yusaku didn't want to involve Go or Blue Angel in his fight, he was reluctant to take Takeru on another mission after he was caught in Blood Shepard's trap and he constantly wanted to do things himself. Also, a lot of his wins look like he didn't win at all and more like he lost everything, especially the duel with Kusanagi when he fainted from emotional distress and nearly refused to get up ever again and the final duel which caused him to lose Ai forever (in case he was indeed gone for good).
I actually wanted to see him re-experience Lost Incident more than him losing a duel since it would make much more impact. There were bits of it in the duel with Kusanagi (if you replay the scene where Yusaku receives damage multiple times and compare it to flashbacks from Lost Incident you can see a lot of similarities, especially the one where Yusaku was thrown against the tree) and slightly during Ryoken vs. Takeru duel, but it was not nearly enough to what I really wanted. I think I actually wrote in detail how this would go while season 2 was still airing and I'm still a bit sad I didn't happen. In my version, SOL would have a much bigger role and would find out Yusaku's identity which would force him to leave the city and perhaps hide at Takeru's place (which would provide a much-needed break he needs plus more quality time with Takeru, Ai and Flame, heck maybe he would even have a dinner with his grandparents and got some serenity from living a normal life as he should). Then SOL would likely lure him in the trap along with Takeru and made them duel each other in a similar setting as Lost Incident, though this time they would feel electroshocks whenever they took damage. I even had high hopes that Ryoken would come to save them and therefore he would re-experience Lost Incident himself as well which would probably help him let go of his father's guilt and give Yusaku more reasons to call him a saviour.
Other things I wanted to see:
    - Akira or Aoi vs. Queen (or maybe Akira losing to Queen and then Aoi & Aqua duelling to avenge Akira and Earth)
    - Takeru & Flame and Aoi & Aqua tag duel vs. Windy or Lightning
    - Windy using Blood Shepard's data to learn about Takeru's fears and using it against him
    - The connection between Haru, Jin, Kusanagi and Bowman (I had the whole theory about that too, that Haru was supposed to represent Jin before Lost Incident and Bowman was supposed to represent a buffed up version of Kusanagi who protects him)
    - Lightning replacing Jin with Yusaku after Bowman defeats him and Yusaku becoming a perfect soldier puppet that Lightning uses to take over network system and the rest of Lost Children teaming up in order to defeat him (similar to Yuya/Zarc duel vs. everyone) and in the end it is Ryoken who barely defeats him or it ends up in draw

The writing in duels: sometimes the who lost could've won, examples are if aoi had summoned trickstar bloom with the token then used trickstar fusion to summon swet guitar so sb lps will be at 100 if I remembee correctly it was 500 at the start of the turn, then ss another token via live stage to inflict -400 so sbs lps will be 0, or the time when in the ai duel aoi forgot to use coral anemones gy effect to add back a marincess to hand which would've made her have 4 cards in hand, not complaining about her losing just a example of the duel writing not remembering the cards effects and the duels writing.
The switch to marincess from trickstars after s2: as they could've let aoi go back to trickstars and let miyu duel with marincess to make her more than a plot device for letting aoi get a ignis.
Jin post s2: would've loved to see him duel out of his own choice using armatos legio
Spectre: lack of a on screen duel in s3 or show him win against a fake ai and then lose to the real one or roboppi since he is a LI victim, other than that no complaints about him for me.
Pandor: probably should've gotten one more duel against ai and summoned topologic nabee.
Ghost Girl: needed more duels tbh, also maybe they could've made her duel against lighting after his duel with bs and made a perfect Altergeist board and then have lighting destroy it to show off how strong he is again to reinforce it even further, and no altergeist fusion or xyz since everyone else in season 2 was doing that, she only got a synchro.
BS: needed a bit more duels and needed more time to show us the bond between the two and no drone link 4 to do what altergeist memorygant did by symbolizing the bond he has with ghost girl.
Bohman: uninteresting character and deck to see the characters play against, he didn't have much of one and needed less duels against pm as those lasted like 2-3 episodes which could've gone to anything else as in character building.
Episodes: less recaps which I'm aware was out of there control, they could've done more episodes without duels or the start of one in them to focus on the characters and really wish they didn't it shortly.
Aoi/BA/BG/BM: Shouldn't have switched to marincess as trickstars were tied in to her character growth as she said in the sb duel an example being her analyzing what weakness the deck had and made the deck stronger as a whole via carobein just like aoi herself getting better after the loss with spectre. Should've foreshadowed miyu by having aoi mention a best friend she had in season 1 or early season 2 so it could not be as out of nowhere as it was, and no trickstar synchro or xyz.
Akira: fine as is, they did really good with him.
Revolver: Shouldn't have made him forget what he said after the lighting duel and should've kept that to make his character go in that direction in terms of his views and opinions on ai.
Queen and the chess pieces: I have nothing for them.
    Kusanagi: no complaints.
    Roboppi: no complaints.
Soulburner: probably should've us how he was dealing with the loss of flame in the early half of s3 instead of showing basically nothing.
Playmaker: wished throughout the show they at least showed him hanging out/interacting with everyone besides Kusanagi/takeru/aoi sometimes whether it be for a short duration to show that, I have no complaints about his win streak as I feel they justified it enough I guess and maybe show him smile more I guess.
Windy: wished they spent a episode showing us how his and partners life was before lighting.
    Aqua: no complaints.
    Earth: no complaints.
    Lighting: no complaints.
    Flame: no complaints.
    Ai: no complaints
Biggest disappointment overall: vrains getting cut short/no season 4.
Overall that's my list/thoughts on the writing which sort have turned into a characters thoughts post.

Actually I don't think Aoi had any misplay in her duel against Ai. The reason why she didn't use Anemone's effect was that she wanted to keep Sea Horse in the GY so that she could use its 2nd effect in her next turn, and even if she did like what you said, she would only have 3 cards in her hand when Ai's spell was activated (you might want to recount the number of cards in her hand). Tbh, even if her play had been as good as that of players irl, the writers would have given her opponents cards which could defeat her since she was destined to lose.

@@elimigate3104 I would like to call it a lack of anticipation instead of a misplay. If the card in Soulburner's hand had been a useless card, she would have won. Soulburner also had a lack of anticipation in his duel against Roboppi. To me, a misplay is a move which is so dumb that there is absolutely no legitimate excuse to explain. For example, Akira could have used Aoi's trap to make the atk of either Dark Templar or Fire Phoenix become 0, then attacked that monster with Hound having 4700 atk, thus defeated Ai. Instead, he attacked Dark Templar having 4600 atk with Hound, then used the trap to make Fire Phoenix's atk become 0, and attacked it with Cerberus having 3500 atk, so he only inflicted 3600 damage to Ai.

1:33 my dissapointment is opening 2 barely updating itself, and that we never got a sixth ending (so it was 3 openings, 6 endings to have some symmetry)
2:46 i agree. she had so much potential BUUUUTT it was so wasted at the end. the fact that the narrative kept her distant from the Nagi Gang even after teaming up with Aqua until after the conflict with bowman, AND ONLY after the conflict with Ai started she got to learn yusaku was playmaker was really dumb. especially because that was a double wasted opportunity of having aqua interact more with her ignis friends AND make her death and flame's hurt more.
another wasted opportunity with her: have her final duel be against Roboppi. the contrast of "little sibling" figures wanting revenge (especially because this woud have taken place AFTER Akira's defeat at Ai's hands) would have been gold.and bonus points for both being related to water figures one way or another.
and she being the one to put roboppy out of his misery would have been kinda poethic.
ALSO, Have her at least see the final duel between soulburner and revolverat least.
if after that if the only duel we get is ai vs playmaker, it woud have been a nice sendoff to her character. of she wanting to take care of akira and hope for the best and not wanting to giht would have been understandable.

Some ideas for a SOL Tech arc:
    1) Have it take place in the 1st half of Season 3 during the time Ai is preparing to turn on everyone which means Yusaku/Playmaker wouldn't have him during his duels.
    2) Akira Zaizen and Aoi/Blue Maiden have separate one on one duels with Queen. Akira is the first to duel her but loses which leads to Blue Maiden to challenge her to a Speed Duel so that we know Queen's Skill before she gets destroyed by Ai when he makes his return.
    3) A Tag Duel. The closest we had to a tag duel were handicap duels like Ghost Girl and Blood Shepherd vs Roboppi. Have one of the chess pieces, my choice being Knight, create a digital copy of themselves with the opposite colour scheme (one Knight has white armour while the other has black armour since white and black are typically the colours used in chess). Then they duel Playmaker and someone like Soulburner, Blue Maiden or even Revolver since it's always interesting to see the rival and protagonist team up.
    4) Have Go Onizuka duel Playmaker one last time. Go, to me, is the secondary rival of Vrains and it would've been cool to see him duel Playmaker one more time before Ai defeats him. Go was redeemed out of nowhere in Season 3 so this duel would be a way to bring him back to the good side. Playmaker would mainly have to mention the orphans Go used to visit. Playmaker would obviously win but the main thing is that Go is redeemed.
    5) Revolver should be the one to end the arc. SOL Tech played a part in the death of Revolver's father so of course he would want revenge. If more motivation is needed, make it that the chess pieces want to start a new version of the Lost Incident to create their own Ignis' since they failed to get the original ones. Revolver already has guilt over the Lost Incident that his father caused which caused suffering to all 6 children involved and didn't want the same thing to happen again. He learns this from his spy in SOL Tech and creates a team with Playmaker, Soulburner, Blue Maiden, Spectre, Akira and Blood Shepherd (who only joins because of his hatred for AI's) and invade SOL Tech via Link Vrains. In the final duel of the arc, he duels King or Queen (depending on who would be the final boss of the arc) and pulls out a shock moment when he summons his Link 5 monster, Borrelend Dragon, and pulls put the win.
    6) The aftermath has all but Queen being arrested for what they were planning and Akira becomes in charge of SOL Tech. Queen isn't arrested because she's on that cruise ship that was advertising the Soltis that were being released. This, of course, is when Ai makes his return as the final villain of the anime with Roboppi by his side. They don't know that Queen no longer has power in SOL Tech and assume that she has what she wants. Ai destroys her in their duel and then realises that Akira is the one their after. The rest continues as it did in the anime.

my disappointments were that the Ai vs Yusaku duel was not a real-world duel as we could have had the Ai copies look up at them like an audience and seeing how each of them would react when the duel ends as Ai did say that they would have different points of view for life.
not using Aoi in the final season as Ai did make her stay alive to suffer from not saving Akira, so maybe a final duel between her and Yusaku to get some final character growth from her.
not much of Brave Max as it would have been interesting if he interacted more with Yusaku to the point where he could be taken as a serious duelist.
no Yusaku vs Lighting as i consider him the main villain of the show since he pretty much cause everything for all three seasons.
finally, don't remeber if Bowman ever did a Kamen Rider Reference as his actor played Kamen Rider Zanki from Kamen Rier Hibiki and Jirou from Kamen Rider Kiva, a famous toku show from Japan. (If he did, tell me about where i could find it).

    • @ianr.navahuber2195
      @ianr.navahuber2195 5 лет назад +1

Yeah. Maybe have a duel with Aoi and Yusaku as a "training" before Ai, asking yusaku if he is ready to do what needs to be done. Heck, maybe even have her defeat yusaku in that "training" and showcasing yusaku still has doubts about what he could do.
Or maybe have her, revolver, and yusaku have a final 3 vs 3 duel against Ai in the real world (while, for a change, soulburner stays to take care for akira. as his own way of making sure aoi doesn't go through what he did while he was in the lost incident facility.).
AND have, have aoi be the one to defeat roboppy (come on! the duel bewteen little siblings with water motifs hell bent on aveging their older brothers was a good opportunity that was wasted)
AND about Brave MAX. I would have had him being chosen as partner by Earth. Earth being gullible enough to genuinely believe brave Max's statements of knowing playmaker. foricng the nagi gang to accept and maybe even traing naoki. the usual shenanigans stuff. AND THEN have a shocking moment of him being defeated by GO. maybe have him end in a coma and have SOL kill earth like in the original. that would have been a mother of all shocks.
About Bowman. Maybe have a minor joke that once he became a little more advanced, he used his connection to the web to know more about everything. maybe have an interaction with haru were he makes a reference to kamen rider. saying "humans have done some occasional good."

Link monsters completely shook up the rules for duelling so it makes sense that the other summoning methods wouldn't show up for a season. However, it was only in Playmaker’s fourth duel with Bohman. Transcode Talker as well returns for this duel and then goes onto appear in the final duel of the show. As for Decode Talker, he only appears three times after the end of season one. And then... Shootingcode Talker. After his introduction in the first duel of season two, he only appears then in Playmaker’s duel with Blood Shepherd.

I thought it was cruel how Sky didn’t have her ignis absorb the data of Bohmann’s brother, since he didn’t seem like he was really a bad person, just a pawn of Lightning and Bohmann. But it’s not uncharacteristic for Sky, because she seemed almost as cold and lacking in empathy as Yusaku. It seemed like she did come to care about Yusaku though, maybe because they are so similar, and with similar weaknesses they needed each other to rely on. In the final season when she holds Yusaku’s hand at the playground, she made it clear she would be willing to fight AI so he didn’t have to, to spare him from the pain of having to kill AI himself. Part of what makes vrains more adult than other series is that it boils down to a war for survival between humanity and an artificially created replacement, sort of like the struggle for supremacy between naturals and coordinators in Gundam SEED. I don’t think Sky really wanted to kill the AI, but she didn’t have any choice if she wanted to protect those she loved, like Akira, Aqua, and Yusei from Lightning and Bohmann. I think she’s a great but tragic character and even though it would have been satisfying to see her win against AI to shoulder the pain for Yusei, it probably was never in the cards for the final duel to be anything other than the main character and his companion. That’s a tradition that goes back to the original and was continued with Zexal.

I have a feeling that a lot of these disappointments weren't intentional at all. With what was going on the animation studio I think that they had to scrap out a lot of details in order to make the cut. Like you mentioned before there were a lot of recap episodes which is something that most animes (or any series for that matter) does unless it's at the end of a season or before the final battle. I'm sure that if the writers and the animation team had more time and budget they easily could of made a few more episodes. (I'd predict at least another 10-15 episodes) and could have easily tweaked those disappointments into pros or at least made them more tolerable to the viewers.
I still think Vrains is one of the better Yu-Gi-Oh! spinoffs and quiet frankly I think they had a good amount of interesting characters that could've easily done more of the show. Especially for the SOL Technologies. With how Queen was set up, I'm almost certain they had initially planned for a SOL Technologies season, but had to take it out completely. Especially since Zaizen became the CEO at the end of the series. Little details like that clearly hints that it would've done a character arc for not only him, but for Aoi and Emma since they are technically part of that aspect. So, I'm sure they had a lot of things planned, but ultimately had no time or place to put them in...

Besides the financial issues, I see that most of Dylan's disappointments were caused by Playmaker, Soulburner aka Playmaker 2.0, and Ai aka Playmaker 3.0. To be more specific, they either directly caused the disappointments (Playmaker did not lose, his background information was vague) or indirectly caused them (Soulburner and Ai made Aoi, Sol, and other characters become wasted characters). I don't really have any complaint about the fact that Playmaker is too op since he is the main protagonist, but I cannot find out any legitimate reason why Soulburner and Ai had so much screen time in season 2 and 3, and these two really made me feel frustrated. I genuinely hope that there will be no main protagonist 2.0 and 3.0 in YGO 7, or I may have to drop that show.

My main disappointments were mainly just that my favorite characters, Ghost Girl and Pandor never really ever do anything or have victories vs relevant characters. Topologina is a really cool deck that I'd have loved to see more of, and Altergeist is my favorite deck to play myself. Also, what about Topologina Nabee? If we get a VRAINS II, we NEED to see Pandor make a comeback with Nabee as her deck's Rank 5 or something. (Also, I want the Topologina cards to get printed, along with Drones and Sunvines, but that probably won't happen).

  • @Alx501
    @Alx501 5 лет назад +1

Long post, but I think I can distill my disappointments down to a top 5 problems that caused most of the issues with the show. Number 1 and 2 have to be the clear behind the scenes production issues and the show being cut short and only having 120 episodes. The production issues gave us the animation issues, the recaps, and the director change that de-emphasized Sol Tech and Yusaku’s backstory despite foreshadowing/setup. The show being cut short probably stopped there from being a Sol Tech arc, created lots of plot holes/unanswered questions, and contributed to the side characters being shafted.
If there had been time for a Sol Tech arc, I think it likely would have given more on Yusaku’s backstory and centered the Lost Incident victims more since they were the ones who suffered the most at their hands. I’ve been surprised that people haven’t been more angry at Konami or whoever made the call to cut VRAINS short since it really negatively impacted the show compared to the others, it reminds me of 4Kids failing to dub GX’s final season. I guess the strong ending covered for some of that, but the treatment of the show by the higher ups given the production problems and the show being cut short raises a lot of concerns.
Number 3 is definitely Yusaku himself, he had a lot of potential after season 1 that really only got explored in the duel against Kusanagi and Ai. It almost seems like they only wanted Yusaku to be the main character in Season 1 and then had Soulburner in Season 2 and Ai in Season 3 as the main characters. I guess they didn’t know what they wanted to do with Yusaku and instead gave some of the development he should have had to Soulburner and Ai.
Number 4 (surprised this wasn’t on your list Dylan) was the almost complete lack of real world duels and episodes after Season 1. I always thought the real world moments in Season 1 were a great contrast to the VRAINS stuff where we could have good development and interactions, humor, and just have a change in tone and setting that was desperately needed to keep things fresh.
Finally, number 5 is the weak world-building in VRAINS as a whole. While VRAINS is my number 3 show out of all the Yugioh’s, its world-building is the worst of any of the shows to me. We know so little about where the VRAINS came from and what purposes it served aside from just being a platform to duel. Den City we know even less about, the settings feel like they don’t have much depth and are just there because they have to be. The most intriguing part of the VRAINS itself is the very end of the show when they say it can connect to other worlds. I really thought they were going to build up to the VRAINS becoming conscious as a super Ignis, hence why VRAINS is so similar to ‘brains.’ That very well could have been part of the Sol Tech arc we never ended getting and could have added to the long arc of the show.

    For me:
    10. Crack Dragon being completely abandoned after Season 1
    9. Screwing over pretty much every side
    8.Season 3
    7. Too many new boss monsters
    6. Openings never fucking changed as the series went on
    5. Bohman and Lightning, fuck these two. Honestly.
    4. Recaps
    3. No Topologina Nabee(Like jesus where’s our Topologic Link 5?)
    2. Underutilization and Refusal to nerf Firewall Dragon
    1. Playmaker. Never. Lost and always won because of a made up card that never got printed. He had worse plot armor then any other protagonist tbh.

Fact zone returns with yet another exciting episode. First of all I find it really funny how someone who "praised" GX for having only 4 openings of which half of them are mediocre and half are very decent, says that VRAINS which has 1 OPENING LESS, is a disappointment in that regard, to say that you're wrong about that would be an understatement of the millennia, all 3 VRAINS openings are magnificent, rivaled by some Arc- V openings which were and still are some of the best YGO openings, the only part I agree with is Go forward being a little to overplayed and maybe how Opening 3 kind of lied on how Yusaku and Aoi are gonna get closer together and that's it. Let's see what do we have next, oh yes! I'm also baffled how you say Playmaker is invincible due to not losing during the run time of the show while mentioning Yusei who only lost in a flashback, WITHOUT EVEN MENTIONING THAT PLAYMAKER ALSO LOST IN A FLASHBACK, this something some people put genuine effort into in order to even say a false information like that so I'm genuinely impressed for that reason, and also the duel is called no result for a reason buddy, because you never know what Yusei might have done if his D-wheel didn't break, which also brings me to the fact that you speculated what might have happened in the Judai vs Yugi duel, WHICH WAS ALSO A GODAMN NO RESULT. Moving on, Queen is a textbook example of a one-shot villain, I have no idea why you're hyping her up so much. Quinella (SAO) Irene Belserion (Fairy Tail) Esdeath (Akame ga Kill) all have awesome character development to warrant them being villains in their respective shows which Queen doesn't. Another thing that I wanted to do is ask you a question. Have you ever seen a YGO show minus the original and GX, which uses all summoning methods that exist at the time, 5ds didn't have Rituals, ZEXAL didn't have Synchros and Arc V didn't have Rituals, so why did you expect VRAINS to be different with Pendulums, since I'm 99.99% sure that you don't even know, that means I surely can't know. Our first chance to see all summoning mechanics might be in Yugioh 7 since I'm 99.99% sure we're NOT GETTING a new summoning mechanic. Oh and lastly, if you're wondering about what happened to the chess pieces, Gabriel Miller (Dark King Vector from SAO) ate them all.
Edit: I actually forgot about Prediction princess Tarotrei which is a Ritual monster and every single Cyber angel from Asuka, which is a side effect caused by Tarotrei being a random monster and Asuka being a terible and forgettable character

I'm so glad you brought up the summoning method thing in the episodes and you know we haven't seen that since and I even brought it up to my husband like why does Konami decide to only make certain decks certain summoning methods like the Galaxy eyes can only be an xyz's deck and like starving venom can only be a fusion deck like Galaxy eyes doesn't get any more links besides one and they don't get synchro monsters and fusion cards and the starving venoms don't get synchros or XYZ like that's just weird to me why Konami pegs certain decks for certain summoning methods it just doesn't make sense to me

Blaring issue #1. VRAINS is the first series in the franchise to have NOTHING to do with the actual card game. The conflicts could have been handled with Gundams or Pokemon battles and the plot outcome wouldn't have changed. The cards never really mattered or had value. They began the show the Cyberse plot device, and quickly scrapped that idea like so many other holes listed in the video. A few aspects of VRAINS were definitely enjoyable, but it was ridden with production issues after they invested so much energy into that 2016 movie.

Yeah, Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS by far had the biggest production problems out of any Yu-Gi-Oh show. From the pilot episode not airing on April, but instead a month later via May, to the ridiculous amount of recap episodes, to there not being as many openings, and endings, to the main protagonist not losing once, to Yusaku Fujiki not getting much development, or showing a lot of emotions, to Spectre not speaking almost the entirety of Season 3, to villains constantly being replaced, to Queen being yet another waste, to the Knights Of Honoi never being mentioned again, to the very last scene of AI where he just says "Huh?" to there being only 120 episodes, and so much more... It's also a shame that there was never a VRAINS manga either... I also kinda wish there were duels outside of the virtual world too. Not saying to get rid of the VR world entirely, that's the main gimmick of the anime, just have non-virtual duels like every 10-20 episodes, or so. Overall, I really enjoyed the show, I really loved the characters, the duels, the atmosphere, the plot, etc. but, these production issues definitely hurt the anime... I just hope that the next Yu-Gi-Oh show doesn't end up having the same production problems as its predecessor unfortunately did so it can end up being the best it can be!

    2. Jin never playing any major role in the story (It took almost 100 episodes for him to even have any speaking lines)
    3. Playmaker never losing a duel (Watching him duel almost felt boring at times due to the predictable nature of his duels)
    4. Lighting being responsible for Windy's personality and Dr. Kogami's death (I felt that it took a lot away from Windy's character as well any potential the higher ups at SOL Tech had.)
    5. Aoi's treatment throughout the series (She definitely deserved a few more wins.)
    6. Soulburner (I love Soulburner, but he felt like a Playmaker 2.0 a lot of the time, because he seemed untouchable while other characters that were introduced in season 1 kind of got shafted. If there was going to be a second Playmaker in terms of dueling ability, I think Jin should've gotten that role instead.)
    7. Spectre and the three knights (Spectre became one of my favorite characters immediately after he made his formal debut, so seeing him not really doing anything in Season 3 was a let down. The Knights of Hanoi as a group kind of felt underwhelming since Genome, Vyra, and Faust were underutilized after season 1).
    8. Season 3 (Season 3 did a lot for character development, but it definitely felt too short considering the first 2 seasons were 50 episodes long.)
    9. Akira being somewhat underutilized in terms of duels.
    10. Miyu and Windy's partner not playing any major role (The lost incident victims in general seem to have been forgotten since only half of them ended up being important)

Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS is my favorite series from all. But it wasted SO MUCH potential it hurts.
    My disappointments:
    1. The Lost incident kids: They could have an amazing plot reuniting all the 6 together, sharing and seeing of each of them dealt with the same traumatic experience and how humans take traumatic experiences differently. But nope, even windy's partner was just throw off the show.
    2. Yusaku's past : whole 1st season saying he wants his memories back and from season 2 they never touch that topic again.
    3. SOL Chess Pieces: Again, all first season giving important screentime and in the end, they were irrelevant
    4. Spectre: He had so much potential. I could even see him being an antagonist, but no, just made the character irrelevant.
    5. Bowman faking is the real playmaker: This had SO MUCH potential. They just didn't write it right.
    6. Link sense: Mentioned in season 1, barely in season 2 and non-existence in 3. Not even an explanation of what exactly is. Such a shame, it could have been used for interesting plot development.
    7. Aoi Zaizen: It is just a shame. She had so much potential as a duelist but they didn't made her justice.
    8. Recaps: I would prefer them to skip those episodes to save the budget to deliver something better or put the series on hiatus.
    9. Queen: Could have been a cruel villain but nope, got killed and never heard from her again.
    10. Pacing of the story: This one is odd, but I think the pacing of the story damage the development of some characters. They just didn't catch a break when the next big thing happened. Having peaceful episodes could have helped in the better development of characters.

There are two duels I feel like would've been the best places for Yusaku/Playmaker to lose. The 1st being his duel against Bohman, the 3rd encounter between the two. Which you've talked about in your video on results you would've changes. The 2nd would need to move some stuff in Season 1, that being his first duel against Revolver. To me, the first duel between the rival and the main character is the best time for the protagonist to lose. Instead of Aoi/Blue Angel being infected with a virus after her duel with Playmaker, Revolver shows up and challenges Playmaker to a duel. They still get Topologic Bomber Dragon and Firewall Dragon from the Data Storm but Playmaker doesn't get to use Firewall and instead, loses to Revolver. This would set up Revolver as a threat and shows us a side of Yusaku we didn't get to see. This could give us room for a Blue Angel vs Go Onizuka duel and maybe a rematch between Blue Angel and Playmaker where Blue Angel would then be infected with the virus. That leads to Playmaker and Revolvers rematch that Playmaker barely wins using Firewall Dragon and gets the cure for Blue Angel's virus. For both the Bohman duel and Revolver duel, they could save Playmaker and Ai by having Kusanagi save them via hacking.

#1 disappointment: A complete lack of plot payoff.

I personally really liked the plot and especially the open-ended ending, but everyone interprets and enjoys media differently! Nothing wrong with that

@@YugiohEverything it's highly doubtful it'll get a continuation. Feels like how Zexal ended, except Zexal's cast was quite more colorful in comparison and the story had better sense of direction, imho.
All those subplots in VRAINS never seem to ever feel as relevant enough when the support cast's characterization and development really just gets sidelined. I wish they could've done much better in that regards.

I bet the biggest disappointment was Yusaku and Aoi didn’t get together.

For your information, if Aoi herself, I mean her voice actress, had not asked to fix the conversation between Aoi and Yusaku in episode 105, that conversation would have had zero emotional content. The script of that episode was written by Yoshida Shin by the way. The article talking about this was posted on facebook of "Yu-Gi-Oh Animes."

Konami wants to forget about Pendulums looooool

Hey buddy. You might be overlooking the fact that the reason why they didn't include pendulum summoning is that they plan to develop a crossover in the future.
However, I also expected SOL Technology to be the final antagonist of the show.

My disappointment is that they never showed Playmaker Vs Revolver rematch. Cause when Revolver visited Yusaku he said that if he survives after the war between humans & Ignises then they have to duel. And I would like to see Playmaker Vs Lightning

I still believe Windy may have been partnered with Blood Shepherd’s partner their stories align I just think there may have been some traumatic memory loss. The chess pieces I think are just family to Queen with King being her husband but these are just hopeless speculations
