    Not a big fan of Chazz/Manjoume, but let's keep in mind he beat an entire school to become its representative, beat an entire dorm worth of high level duelist to release them from their mindcontrol, won the entire GX tournament (only for plot reasons) and beat a pro-level duelist while wearing a stupid costume... He Chazzed it up when he needed it the most

      Well one could argue the vital plot Duels he won were against his brother Slade for control of Duel Academy and against the Shadow Rider Don Zaloog, with the latter obviously much more impactful even though he ended up losing his key later.
      But considering Jaden took most of the Shadow Riders out by himself, it's honestly shocking that Chazz and Alexis managed to get in a W at all, considering powerhouses like Zane *his hand was forced* and Bastion didn't.

Yes it's technically a loss but he used a weak deck that wasn't his and he misplayed on purpose, it was never a serious duel for him he was playing dumb & entered with the intent to lose. Chazz is underrated I think. He feels almost Joey-like. Where we're introduced to Chazz as an implied experienced and top tier duelist, his growth came on the emotional/friendship side of his character. Joey (in the anime) is introduced as a great and loyal friend, while his growth is shown in his journey from being a 4th Rate duelist, to someone who actually garners even a pinch of respect from Kaiba. Their growth mirrors each others, just in different parts of their character. Maybe I'm off, but that perspective helped me appreciate Chazz a lot more in revisiting the series.

Because of Reiji's Loop-Combo he has two loses, but the fact, that he ran away instead of retry the duel for so long that he coul draw a card like MST or something to break Reiji's combo, shows, that he couldn't beat Reiji even if he would have tried for eternity.

      This is what I always found hilarious about the infinite loop; if they'd kept going forever like Roget initially planned, every time he re-intruded he would have had a fresh 5-card hand, so the fact he still scooped after the first application of the loop, despite theoretically being able to keep trying until he managed to 'draw the out' showed he literally didn't have one.

    • @dancostello4872
      @dancostello4872 2 года назад +4

      @@unknowed5048 Yeah I know, that's what makes it funny - Reiji literally couldn't lose until Roget had taken his turn, and if Roget couldn't find a way to break the loop (during his own Draw Phase, given that Apocalypse' Special Summon - which sets the chain off - was a Quick Effect) he'd just get OTK'd again, resetting the whole cycle.
      Under these circumstances the 'correct play' for Roget would be to keep letting himself lose & re-intruding immediately to try again with a fresh hand and hope he 'drew the out' this time - the fact he chose to just surrender instead meant he knew that out of all the (presumably 40) cards in his deck, not a single one could out the loop.

    Just a reminder that even if a character has many loses, it still doesn't neccessarily mean they are bad duelists, just that most of their defeat were against really strong opponents or for contextual reasons; and as long they show progress throught out the series and perform really well even in the duels that they lost ( as long it was not a stomp or really quick).
    That said, Yuga kinda fall really hard in this regards. It is not that he lost a lot, it is because he started losing more often after getting the maximum and fusion upgrades, even against people that he had already beaten (like Roa and Tiger). Say what you will about Yuma or Chazz, at least they seemed to get stronger with series progression, while Yuga seemed to have gotten weaker.
    No hate for the character, just pointing out that it seems the writers really wanted to screw him over any given opportunity (instead of dedicating some of this losing force against someone that could afford some *cough* Luke *cough*).

    Otes' duels against Luke, Gakuto and Romin specifically do count as 3 duels based on what we see in the series. After he loses, their Penalty Count increments by 3 as per the arrangement of Nail's competition. His losses are largely because most of his duels he is sandbagging since he's not trying to win, he's trying to push the cast forward as a sort of mentor character.
    Also a big reason why I say Sevens has more reps on a list like this isn't specifically because Rush Duels almost always get finished in a single episode but also because having more of a cast of recurring characters who aren't dueling in life-or-death scenarios means that they don't NEED to win constantly. For example, Atachi with her 5 duels is the same amount as Emma and Atachi is a side character who isn't even focused on dueling. And Sevens having main characters duel each other more frequently means that at least one of them was going to end up getting a loss added. Rush Duel letting them get duels through more quickly is certainly a part of it, but really most of the series tend to wrap up most of their duels in a single episode, maybe 2.

    • @Debater
      @Debater Год назад

      Yeah, Otes was basically jobbing the entire series, and when he finally got serious and used his true deck, they only defeated him with a deck made from all the strongest cards of the entire cast. If I'm being honest, I thought going into this that Shingo would be number 1 or 2. I swear, he was my favorite character and throughout the show I was rooting for him to get literally ANY wins. And while seeing him seemingly outwit Z-ARC was awesome, I knew throughout the scene that they would not let a character as minor as him actually win. It's as sad as seeing Joey technically lose to Marik cause he passed out and I still get sad thinking about the scene where the writers truly did him dirty just cause Z-ARC did the equivalent of picking up his card for a second and writing new text on it with a marker.

Because if Marik wasn't a prick zapping Joey every time he took life point damage, which left him completely exhausted as the aftermath, Joey actually could have defeated Marik. Joey VS Marik is honestly one of the rare moments where a non protagonist beating the main villain WOULDN'T have felt derailing for the plot. Joey had a REALLY great arc throughout Battle City where he truly climbed the ranks of the tournament after Duelist Kingdom paved the way for him to truly come into his own, and Marik was a personal enemy for him right from the start because he fell victim to the Rare Hunters very early on when the Arc was still in it's prep stages. And things only get more personal between them as the arc goes on (Marik using Joey as an enslaved vessel to try to kill Yugi, his best friend, and what Marik did to Mai). The Marik duel was the apex of Joey's journey up to that point, both in terms of personal stakes AND how much he's grown from the novice he once was.
      You could have Joey win that duel, and it would've been every bit as satisfying.

    • @johnbakasmoothhotchocolate
      @johnbakasmoothhotchocolate 2 года назад +3

      @@heavydonkeykong5190 I totally agree. He was considered the underdog to just about anyone in the series (except for Yugi because they're best friends) and even Kaiba specifically labeled him a "second rate chump" at times. But that battle between him and Joey was great (despite the outcome) where he used his Blue Eyes against him, totally pissing Kaiba off. He could have almost defeated him too directly after him losing to Yugi, but I love how they implement the Crush Card Virus card--which is not the way it works in the actual game--and just renders most of Joey's deck useless. That's a rivalry that will probably never get any resolve, sadly.

    Unlike with the protagonist winstreak video, I don't think I can confidently nor accurately predict this before watching, but nonetheless I'll give it a go.
    My immediate guess would be Yuma, not because he's on the thumbnail but because he had 20-something losses total (20 were in a row) to Bronk off-screen throughout Zexal (before even looking at his other losses), but I'm assuming that like the protag winstreak video, off-screen duels that were merely mentioned won't be counted; if they are then surely Yuma does take it, as much as I love him as a character.
    I was going to say Yuga's a solid shout for most losses because he seemed to have a proclivity for it but because I can't remember just how many he had, I'm going to say Joey; I can think of at least 9 losses (though I may be forgetting one or two) he had off the top of my head, and despite the remark I just made, I don't think Yuga ended up amassing more than that.
    Joey on the other hand lost to Tea (including 4 times off-screen but they presumably wouldn't be included), Kaiba, Yugi, Duke, Seeker, Marik, Kaiba again, Mai & Zigfried - again I feel like I'm missing one but can't remember off the top of my head.

Plus the way I see it, if you only care about a character from their win-loss record, why watch the anime at all, just stare at the wiki page and cry about it. While I'm here to see the characters, their growth, their interaction with other character, the dueling is just a fun bonus and to see the monsters in the card come to life and be in motion

Out of the 7 complete duels he had, he only won his introduction duel and his duel with yuzu immediately after that. From then on it’s a long series of L’s and no results, a total of 5 definitive loses! Once vs Celina, Gong, Kurosaki, Kite, and of course Yuya. I was really surprised by this as he’s always been portrayed as a powerful character both in his characterization and within the worlds logic as he has mastered Fusion, Xyz, and Pendulum, but ultimately he has one of the worst win loss ratios!

    also, since i mentioned him, would Kaiba be qualified for the list as an honorable mention if you take into consideration his other 2 loses against Yugi in the early manga/ "season 0"? because then he would be at 4 loses before the ending of Duelist kingdom
