I'm pretty sure the reason why GX had so many one-off duels in its earlier seasons is because the writers probably said, "There's gonna be someone out there in the future that'll rank these shows based on the amount duels shown and we want GX to be on the top of that list damnit! Create as much filler characters as you can!" Gx is the best show by far and not least due to its epic duels. Yes maybe a few could have been cut, but only a few, and the only show where 99 percent of duels are pure fun and completely watchable is gx. Gx is the greatest because ultimately there is no such thing as a meaningless pointless duel, because Duels are the and the ultimate point and meaning of yu gi oh.
very comprehensive document, love it. Small remark though, I think you've left out Chazz's 4v1 duel at North Academy, the one where all opponents use the same Marauding Captain strategy

I like how Kaiba is in the thumbnail with all the other protagonists because he’s just that awesome. Plus he was practically the main character of DSOD.
I have a video idea? Which extra deck summoning mechanic was used the most throughout all the shows? Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Link. People might think Link's will have a huge disadvantage for only being in one show, but you gotta remember, they used Link climbing to get to their boss monsters, so their are actually way more Link monsters summoned than people think.
So for that, you mean each and every instance of each summoning I would assume? Also: how are you counting Pendulums? Every individual monster that's Pendulum Summoning, or just each time the Summon is announced? Also also: it's not common, but occasionally a summon is canceled, like Cyber End Dragon being negated by Slime Hole, or Flame Wingman by Singularity Fiend. Does a negated summon count?
I think gx fun duels is important since that’s the main lesson of the show. Just duel for fun. Duel a monkey, duel a high student, duel someone without his ace monster and duel the king of games because both of you are there. So for jaiden I feel it work
Pre-video: VRAINS will be at the low (too many 2 episode duels and pacing issues combined with recaps), DM will be in the bottom half because most of those duels lasted multiple episodes, Zexal will be in the middle because they had a good balance of 1, 2, and 3 episode duels, 5Ds might be in the middle depending on the riding duels. GX is gonna be in the top 3. Sevens might be in the top 3 because they had about 10 through 13 duels in seven arcs, so it's gotta be between 70 and 91. Arc V had a crap ton of duels and characters so I can see them making the top 3 too. Post-video: Vrains no surprise, 5Ds is that low...huh, fair. Lol DM and Zexal are tied for fourth/third....that's hilarious and fitting given Zexal's like the modern DM...that surprisingly works. CALLED IT WITH SEVENS LETS GO! Arc-V was pretty good at that. Wait what the heck, I had a feeling GX would win, but holy crap. Analysis: I feel like this goes to show you need to have good balance when it comes to duel episode. Make the one episode duels for character focus while building up the story, then make the bigger climatic duels 2 to 3 parters. For example: Zexal definitely had a great balance between 1 ep (Yuma vs future members of the Numbers Club), 2 eps (Yuma vs Kite or a strong rival/villain ala the tag duel with Kite against 3+4), and the climax duels of the arcs ala (Yuma vs Tron, III, and or Vector.) Sevens made Rush Duels faster but also took the time that wasn't on the dueling to focus on the characters. GX was basically Sevens but without the key characterization and plot to tied it together, which is why Sevens has a more memorable first arc. VRAINS focused too much on the plot that Go and Aoi's duels need 1 episode for set up and two episodes to have the duels, which kinda hurt the show at times. DM was the first so they're exempt from this. 5Ds Riding Duels for the tournament did take a bit too much time cuz you had a solid balance in seasons 1 and 2. Remember, the Fortune Cup took about 13 episodes while most Tournament arcs go around a whole two seasons. That's wild. And Arc-V's plot was crazy. I know I still enjoy it for the most part inspite of it's flaws but every episode went out of it's way to make its memorable, so the two or more episode duels really stood out a lot more.
Man my brain is playing tricks on me, I had a notion that multiple duels were being done at the same time in Gx. But yeah I am not surprised that it has the most duels. We did not get any of Yubel episodes of later here in Denmark.
An impressive list and video, but I checked the spreadsheet and I noticed some inconsistencies when it comes to how you count Duels that were either partially or mostly off-screen. For example, in Zexal you counted the Yuma vs Shark Round 3 Duel that takes place right before Yuma duels Trey to get his last Heart Piece to enter the finals of the World Duel Carnival. I can understand counting this Duel we see at least three turns of it, but then in the Original series, you don't count Yugi vs Vivian despite us seeing four turns of that Duel. Than you for some reason count Silvio(Shingo) and Celina(Serena)'s Duels with the Security Officers in Arc V, even though Silvio's is completely off-screen and from what Yuya said he lost on turn 1 because the Security Officer somehow First Turn Killed him. It's just a little confusing is all.
As a video idea, maybe you could do something on duels that don't involve the main 2-3 characters (the protagonist, the rival, or Jounouchi/Crow/Shark/Soulburner). Something like what percentage of duels in each series didn't involve them or top ten duels of that style.
I know you did videos on the main protagonists in the yugioh series like wins or how many times they used their ace but I think it would be cool if you did similar videos for the rivals and/or main supporting protagonist characters like kaiba or joey throughout the series 😊
Next Idea: which character used the most different variety of cards in their main / extra deck deck. (Taking over someone else’s duel or using a trial deck (or anything similar) doesn’t count for this list ) Also they must have used it at least once in any duel to count.. so as an example yuma / astral having all 100 number wont count as 100 different cards unless they used it once in a duel.
can you do top 10 duelists excluding main characters, their rivals and main villains? so no yugi, kaiba or dartz but you could include rafael or for 5ds no yusei, jack or z-one but you could include antinomy. you can base off how strong their decks are, their wins and/or skills and how tough they were to defeat
i was watching yugioh 5ds (again) and I see the Mad Archfiend attack was a very weird/bizarre attack, so I think could be a good idea doing a top with the most weird bizarre attacks of monsters
Duel Monsters got held by a lot of stuff. Multiple episode duels. Pharoah vs Weevile was like a 3 episode duel, You also have Pharoah vs Panic. Pharoah vs Kaiba part 2 and 3. the Duel with Pegasus was like 5 episodes. I am pretty sure most of Season 1 is multiple episode duels. There is a lot of Duels in battle city, but the virtual world stuff IMO kind of counter balances it all. You also have Dungeon Dice Monsters which takes up like 3 episodes. Every duel with a main villain, every duel with the rival. Almost all of the important duels took several episodes. It turns a 200+ Episode story in a hyper condensed story. Where as in GX, most of the duels were single episode duels. there was not a lot of BS like Virtual world arch, or Dungeon dice monsters, DnD arcs. I wonder what series has the Highest Quality dies. I.E. Which series were most entertaining to watch.
Hey I was wondering where it is I can watch every yugioh episode? Including the never dubbed episodes, seasons, etc. I've tried crunchyroll but even that doesn't Include the last season of gx, 5ds, etc.
I wonder what the stats look like if you value each duel per participant, i.e. a 1v1 counts for 2, a 2v2 counts for 4 and an arc V interrupt duel counts for the total participants. I think arc V would actually take it due to having a huge amount of multi person duels and some with massive amount of people for example: edo, sora, shun, kaito, gong, jack, sawatari, crow, leo, reiji and reira vs zarc or gong, tsukikage, reed, trout, shun, serena, sawatari vs 3 obelisk force members. At the same time i think this would really hurt sevens and vrains even more with how 1v1 focused those series were. I also think 5ds would benefit more from this than average.
I wonder how many of the 133 duels were Jaden/Judai in. He was literally in almost every duel that happened. I'd probably say around 90-100 were his alone
I'm glad 5Ds toned down the character of the day stock plot. Obviously there's gonna be a handful of characters that just aren't gonna be plot-relevant ever again, but the first 1/3 of GX and ZeXel rly took the piss in that regard.
Zexal at least had a reason, because just try to make everyone relevant when you are going from a monster of the week-hunt straight to a tournament arc. And it's not like the pacing of the show allowed for anything else.
Here's a video idea. Top ten duels where a character came back from almost losing or almost came back via skill. By this I mean something like they didn't top deck the best card that woulda won them the game like pot of greed or something like that
The original Yugioh manga is 2nd with 120 duels. The clown in the video used an anime adaptation that doesn't even cover the entire entire then didn't include the battles in the final arc because they aren't card games when Takahashi has established that every game is a duel because a duel is between 2 opposing sides.
I got an idea for a list for ya’. How about the series with most alternate duels w/ regular master dueling. Like for 5D’s for example had master dueling, turbo duels, that single episode of conscription dueling that was a SUB only episode, the duel puzzle’s, and anything else I can’t think of. The point of this list is to not count all the Turbo duels just all the different types of alternate duels each series had a piece. Tag Team duels and battle royal don’t count, Unless there is a change in the rules such as the labyrinth duel in the duelist kingdom arc of the original Yu-Gi-Oh. On top of that the original Yu-Gi-Oh had deck master dueling, Dungeon dice monsters, the dimension dueling in the Darkside of dimensions movie. And a few others that I can’t think of off the top of my head. What do you think of that idea for a list? I don’t know if you should count turbo dueling in arc-5 because it was just action dueling on motorcycles with no changing of the rules like speed spells.
I would’ve said GX from the beginning I swear.😇 You already made up all my points except for that the last 30+ episodes no one in the states could see for “reasons…” The biggest mistake Yu-Gi-Oh! keeps making with all their animated series is that the people running the computer thus in charge of the series always is in ketchup with the current time now. Animated series take lots of time to make and the current type of format Yu-Gi-Oh! is pushing would already be months into the format’s relase so when they start a different format, the series ends up being outdated in less than 2 1/2 years (if that?)
Can you do the most appearances of the rival ace monsters. I am calling it right now, the top 3 will be red dragon archfiend, galaxy eyes, and blue eyes. Also I think gx is number 1
Hey Dylan, do you know where I can watch GX Season 4 and 5Ds Season 5? I have only watched DM so far and was going to get started on the other shows but can’t find those seasons anywhere
Honestly I'd be surprised if it wasn't GX, the amount of one off duels that had nothing to do with the main story line, there aren't enough fingers on a group of 5 people to count them
I'm pretty sure the reason why GX had so many one-off duels in its earlier seasons is because the writers probably said, "There's gonna be someone out there in the future that'll rank these shows based on the amount duels shown and we want GX to be on the top of that list damnit! Ok i figured it was going to be GX at one. Like you said some eps were definitely a drag, especially when you know most of the time the main character is going to win. Good video!!
What an amazing video on my birthday! 😊
Gx is the best show by far and not least due to its epic duels. Yes maybe a few could have been cut, but only a few, and the only show where 99 percent of duels are pure fun and completely watchable is gx.
Gx is the greatest because ultimately there is no such thing as a meaningless pointless duel, because
Duels are the and the ultimate point and meaning of yu gi oh.
very comprehensive document, love it. Small remark though, I think you've left out Chazz's 4v1 duel at North Academy, the one where all opponents use the same Marauding Captain strategy
Hey Dylan, excellent video. Now can you do a Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal top 10 video please? Thank you.

@Mister Perfection stfu we do
Remember when Judai dueled the Eggwich guy? Yeah me too
That's a lot of duels shown in this anime I did like this list a bit and I do agree with GX being first
133 Duels! 😱
I like how Kaiba is in the thumbnail with all the other protagonists because he’s just that awesome. Plus he was practically the main character of DSOD.
And the funniest part of arc-v having more duels than average is that the non-dueling episodes were the better ones.
@@christopherb501 I'd assume every time the mechanic was used.
I have a suggestion the top 10 worst duels in all of yugioh, top 10 season/arc in yugioh gx
LETS GOOOOOOO. GX GANG
I did not know that yugioh gx had the most duels.
Is that art of Judai from the thumbnail a fan-edit? That Star looks like the one in Serena's jacket
(Taking over someone else’s duel or using a trial deck (or anything similar) doesn’t count for this list )
Also they must have used it at least once in any duel to count.. so as an example yuma / astral having all 100 number wont count as 100 different cards unless they used it once in a duel.
I knew gx was going to have the most because Jaden/Judai alone has 78 wins. Guy has almost as many wins as most series have duels.
can you do top 10 duelists excluding main characters, their rivals and main villains? so no yugi, kaiba or dartz but you could include rafael or for 5ds no yusei, jack or z-one but you could include antinomy. you can base off how strong their decks are, their wins and/or skills and how tough they were to defeat
i was watching yugioh 5ds (again) and I see the Mad Archfiend attack was a very weird/bizarre attack, so I think could be a good idea doing a top with the most weird bizarre attacks of monsters
Jaden's body must ache from carrying the entire show on his back
I wonder what the stats look like if you value each duel per participant, i.e. a 1v1 counts for 2, a 2v2 counts for 4 and an arc V interrupt duel counts for the total participants.
I also think 5ds would benefit more from this than average.
now, to see which series has the most duels that don't involve the protagonist
I wonder how many of the 133 duels were Jaden/Judai in. He was literally in almost every duel that happened. I'd probably say around 90-100 were his alone
I think that arc v has so many duels because you have some duels happening at the same time
I'm glad 5Ds toned down the character of the day stock plot. Obviously there's gonna be a handful of characters that just aren't gonna be plot-relevant ever again, but the first 1/3 of GX and ZeXel rly took the piss in that regard.
VRAINS needed it desperately
@@pn2294 I strangely agree.
Zexal at least had a reason, because just try to make everyone relevant when you are going from a monster of the week-hunt straight to a tournament arc. And it's not like the pacing of the show allowed for anything else.
Even before waching:GX number 1!
Two questions.
First: Did you count the movies in the assessment?
Second: Which fan series could actually occur in the anime?
Here's a video idea. Top ten duels where a character came back from almost losing or almost came back via skill. By this I mean something like they didn't top deck the best card that woulda won them the game like pot of greed or something like that
Are you ever going to make something like a top 10 duel from a manga?
Seeing Arc-V in second was a little surprising; especially considering how many episodes DM has. GX has a bigger landslide than i pictured also
The original Yugioh manga is 2nd with 120 duels.
I’m not shocked Duel Monsters fell short of most duels. So many duels were 3-5 parts
Before starting the video i gotta vote GX. Every episode has a duel as far as im aware.
Can you do a ranking vid for a every tag duel/Battle Royale? That’ll be an interesting to cover.
Great video
Havent watched yet but fsr im expecting GX, DM and ZeXal
Edit: close enough, didnt factor in sevens rush duels and forgot the final arc of DM
Gx is the best of them all If Im being biased 😅 but really think its at least right next to the best(DM series)😎
I play utopia and in my opinion utopia is the best deck out of all the other decks in the anime they can set up 5 negates which is pretty insane
Wasn't really surprised by two of the placements, but I was not expecting 6th-3rd places. Jesus.
I would include the virtual duels in season 3 DM. The deck master was a new way of dueling and that it had a total of 8 duels in the series.
when he talked about the virtual world he's talking about the RPG in season 1, not the noah arc
Which yugioh protagonists used the most cards that only appeared once?
I knew yugioh seven was in the top 3 because of 2 things Rush duels and one episode duels.
I speculated that either DM or Vrains would be at last place, while either Seven or GX would be at 1st place
U should do which show has the longest duels or most amount of long duels
A statistical suggestion from me which I would like is this.
Which of the 7 series has the most rage Moments in duels?
You should do a Top 10 list of the craziest hair styles in Yugioh. Lol.
How about which elemental attribute being summoned the most (and with that, the least as well)?
does that include duels like the concentration duel in 5d's or whatever a mix of duel with something else?
I would’ve said GX from the beginning I swear.😇
You already made up all my points except for that the last 30+ episodes no one in the states could see for “reasons…”
The biggest mistake Yu-Gi-Oh! keeps making with all their animated series is that the people running the computer thus in charge of the series always is in ketchup with the current time now.
I hope you make your top 10 least favorite duels
Hey Dylan, do you know where I can watch GX Season 4 and 5Ds Season 5? I have only watched DM so far and was going to get started on the other shows but can’t find those seasons anywhere

I swear I looked at the title and immediately thought.
I'm pretty sure it's GX.
