    In this video we continue our journey into the lore of the God of war series. This was a non stop thrill ride as we discover an older yet wiser Kratos. Aside from the visuals my wife and I were completely blown away story telling and voice acting of each character. Santa monica studios truly created a masterpiece with this game. Leave your thoughts in the comment section and let us know what you think about the God of War franchise.

    If you carefully listen to what Kratos says to Baldur before killing him, he said "the cycle ends here" which was exactly what Zeus said in god of war 2 before killing Kratos

    Yeah, from a viewers perspective, Freya trying to reason with Baldur who already lost it thanks his curse and Odin, does look stupid.
    But remember the info we got about her throughout the whole journey.
    Freya became Odin’s wife to keep her realm safe. And not only did her marriage turn out to be very bad, her people didn’t want anything to do with her, because in their eyes, she was just another Aesir with their blood.
    Once Baldur was born, she could finally have a connection with someone that wouldn’t abuse or reject her. And with maternal instincts kicking in, of course she was afraid of her child’s fate cuz she didn’t want to lose the last thing she truly cares for. We see Baldur for the psycho he is, but Freya only sees the baby she held in her arms. It feels very tragic, the last thing she had, she inadvertently & unintentionally pushed away, and it soon led to his death right in front of her.

The art detail, story, and the emotions were amazing. I mean the way Tasha was reacting to Freya being mad at Kratos for her son just shows how in depth they went lol. Also Kratos has shown such amazing growth since the first trilogy. His practice of restraint and show of compassion truly shows that Kratos is changing.

  • @kellypedersen6590

    This was another genius move by the creators of this game; in traditional Norse mythology, Frigg and Freya are different goddesses. Having them be the same entity really underscores the notion of Odin being a paranoid control freak, at least for the purposes of the game.

    • @chasemcguire8545
      @chasemcguire8545 6 месяцев назад +5

      Nobody is actually sure if Frigg and Freya are different goddesses in traditional mythology. It’s kinda ambiguous

  • @trueblue6424
    @trueblue6424 Год назад +14

    In more mythology Baldur was immune to everything except for mistletoe. The arrow that ended up in his hand was the arrow head that Kratos used to fix Atreus Strap. It’s also why freya tried to destroy all of Atreus mistletoe arrows and claimed they were “evil.”

  • @kellypedersen6590
    @kellypedersen6590 Год назад +16

    And now we see why Freya freaked out when she saw the mistletoe arrows Atreus got from Sindri; in Norse mythology, that is the only substance that can harm Baldur. In the old stories, Baldur is killed by a mistletoe arrow fired by Loki's blind cousin, Hod (spoiler alert; it was Loki's idea).
    As soon as these arrows were offered up while playing the game, I thought "yep, this is gonna be significant". :)

    So in the original myth, Freya went to every living thing in every single realm, from man to beast, trees to grass, mountains to stones. She asked all to swear an oath to not harm Baldur, and each thing did. The only thing she did not go to was mistletoe. The god Loki learned this and had an arrow fashioned from the forgotten wood. At a party where each god was taking turns at drunkenly testing Baldurs' invulnerability, Loki stood next, drew his arrow, and killed Baldur on the spot. This is the first sign of Ragnarok. In respect, we now welcome mistletoe into our homes during the winter holidays, giving a kiss under it.

    Yall are about to wrap up with this game and head onto the final one, its been a wild journey seeing you go through all 8 games. Imho this series is one of the rare masterpieces in gaming, from its continuity to its storytelling.
    One thing before you move on to Ragnarok though, if the video you're on doesn't cover it, even if its off camera yall should check out the 12 Valkyrie fights in the game, the Valkyeries are important in the next game and you'll hear names you won't recognize if you miss them in this one, the unfortunate side of the 2018 game is that the Valkyrie fights are all optional side quests that offer extremely challenging boss fights, with the final one The Valkyrie Queen Sigrun being one of the toughest bosses in gaming since the Dark Souls series came out. This all becomes odd when characters in the next game reference Kratos fighting them if you as the player didn't in this game however

    In Norse mythology Baldur’s death triggers fimbulwinter (continuous snow for three years) and heralds the beginning of ragnarok (Norse Armageddon) for the first time in several play-throughs just watching i do feel for freya they touch on her and baldur relationship in the next game. It was prophesied when he was a baby he’d die a needless death and she was doing everything to break prophecy. the one thing she cherished was her son and they had years of good times until she cursed him trying to protect him…everything went left but as crazy as balder was perspective wise they’re gods so they have time (example kratos changed…it took years but he did) as long as he was alive there was a chance he could be saved even if it meant her death but once kratos snapped his neck it was over and all the prophecies start to happen which will lead to craziness in the next game

    Well do we really need to guess what a can parent do after losing the family 😅. We all know how the downfall of Olympus began. Simply because Aris made him kill his family. Result he destroyed the world in anger. And in case of Baldur he is already unstable because of hundreds of year without feeling anything and we don't know what might odin said to him in those years to win his trust and increase his hate toward his mother. Well its was simple in last game he just wanted vengeance but know he need to raise kid. I can summarize both GOW 2018 AND Reganrok in simple words Parenting is difficult task and you need to wipe their ass if your children did something wrong. 😂 ....

    Out of all the boss fights in GOW, Baldur was the only one that I had mixed emotions about. I enjoyed kicking his ass but I didn't want to kill him because I didn't wanna beef with Freya. I really liked her character because I see her being a good mother. You sensed it in the beginning but it was still unclear, if she was trustworthy or not. When she saved Atreus, that's when it became official. So by comparison, she hasn't been through a whole lot like Kratos but it was a similar situation, regarding his fear of losing his son. And it just sad that the first God he decided to save, he ends up being labeled as a bad guy still. But from her being a parent, it's understandable.

Someone who lived alone for 100 years, thinking about what she could say to the only person she loved the most, trying to make things right, even if it means her death. I AM glad they did this, if Freya accepted his death that easly in the end, it would be such a bad writing.

      It really frustrates me when people call Freya crazy or write her off. Like… she wanted a chance to reconcile with her son and Kratos took that from her. Baldur’s an asshole, yeah. But if you were separated from your kid after screwing them over so badly for a really long time, and then saw them again, wouldn’t you want to reconcile and reconnect? And if someone else was trying to kill your kid in that moment, wouldn’t you want to protect them???? Is Freya really crazy or a monster for that????
      The lack of empathy is really insane to me. And the amount of times I see that lack of empathy at animosity directed at Freya really is disappointing.

The big differences are: Our loki didn't know thst was the weakness, the arrow struck baldur in the heart killing him immediately, and a blind archer had the arrow placed in his supply once thor took baldur to the shooting range to cheer up Baldur on that day. (Cheer him up by having archers try and shoot arrows at baldur until they gave up or baldur fell down from the weight of the arrows.

    Mimir was stretching his vocals to talk to the snake that’s why he made that sound. And y’all trippin. Any good parent would sacrifice there life to save there child’s life . Protecting ur child is ur main goal

    odd reaction to a mother trying to save her son, you give Kratos a pass for literally destroying his world but Balder and Freya must die now

    Have you guys thought about reacting to Red dead 2? The story in that game is imo better,or at least as good as God of war.

    Kratos cares and gets involveld in this, not because of a greater good but because he's reflected in Baldur killing his parent, like he with Zeus, so he wanted to finish the cycle of sons killing their parents.
    The best descision but one that will bring Ragnarok, like in the mythology.
