It might sound melodramatic, but Joe has actually made my life better: I suffer from depression, and listening to The Clash/ Joe always makes me feel so much better. I wish he was still here...
I saw the original broadcast, and at the end of the show Joe sits down with Dave and Dave says "Your music makes me wanna take a road trip across the States," or something like that, and Joe cries, "Aw, let's go, Dave, let's do it, right now!"

The violinist is Tymon Dogg. He taught Joe to play the guitar. He later played with the Clash on 'Sandinista'. Tymon sang and played violin on the great song 'Lose this Skin'. Joe was a very loyal person.
i was just thinking listening to this.... this is such a great song it's one of Joe's top 5 songs ever, including The Clash. ...my favorite band ever....
I feel like the audience doesn't realize how much they lucked out getting to see Joe Strummer. An aside, I was in the hospital for a week when I was 13 and this song somehow became my go to a song. So great.
I was very lucky enough to see The Mescaleros just a few months before Joe passed at the Paladium in Worchestet. The Slackers opened. It was a legitimately amazing show that I will remember until my grave. Take nothing for granted and live those moments because you don't know for how long you'll have them.
Seeing Joe here actually took my breath away. It’s like seeing Elvis walking down the street. Absolute undying legend. Walking music history. What a mighty man!
i saw him with a baby buggy at portobello road market.. was rocking it back and forward i just did a thumbs up he did one back.. we didn’t want to to wake the baby.. lovely moment across a busy street ❤
R.I.P. Joe. I still think about you almost every day. You continue to inspire, influence, and provide hope for people all over the world. You were truly one of a kind and the world would be a better place if you were still here.
JOE STRUMMER RIP I met Joe a few times and the last time we met he said if I saw Mick Jones again tell him that I want to get the Clash back together again! True story!
Derek Lyons nice one derek. I met mick in liverpool a few hjc gigs ago n he was up for it even tho joe be gone I put flowersat his memorial tree nr glastonbury xx
This was almost exactly 2 weeks before I saw them in Scottsdale AZ and had the unbelievable, unforgettable experience of hanging out with Joe all night until the wee hours of the morning. Along with the birth of my son and my wedding day, it was easily one of the top 3 greatest moments of my entire life. It’s all too easy to be severely disappointed when you finally get to meet one of your lifelong heroes, but in Joe’s case it was the opposite experience. He exceeded my expectations tenfold. People like him are so rare, and we as a species were damn lucky to have him in our plane of existence. He was a real gift to humanity, and his words and music will live on as long as we exist. You often hear people say that we need him here with us today, and though I couldn’t agree more with the sentiment, the fact of the matter is that he *IS* still with us, just as long as we never forget his lessons. If you’ve never seen it, I can’t recommend the Joe Strummer documentary “The Future is Unwritten” enough.
I had to take a deep breath before watching this. Knowing Joe would be gone a year after this. Thank you, Johnny Appleseed, for sowing beautiful seeds.
These lyrics are on the same level as Marley or Lennon, in my opinion. They are profound in the simplistic, common way in which they tap into the root of all good poetry - the infinite spirituality of mankind. I hear what he's saying and it's fucking brilliant. RIP Joe.
Saw him live the year before, in Feb. 2001 in NYC. Besides his new songs with the Mesceleros, he played London Calling and Rock the Casbah, and thanked Topper for that song! ALSO saw the Clash: 1981 Bonds NYC, 1982 Pier 84 NYC, 1982 Asbury Park, NJ It was an honor Joe!!! RIP 😇
The king is gone, now it is up to all us pawns to keep the message alive. Tell the truth, kick it over! Be a messenger of positive change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just incase I think I might forget what influences havemade me who I am today- here i am again almost 34 years on.. Joe you have no idea how much influence you had on not just our but future generations.... so proud to have followed you from the very beginning to the very very end... x
The Clash was before my time, but upon hearing Rock the Casbah on the car radio a few months ago, I started going down a rabbit hole of The Clash and Joe Strummer's music. This was the second music video I watched (after RTC, of course), and have been hooked ever since. Joe came across so honest, passionate, and real. There's a sincerity here that's so rare amongst performers. Joe was one of a kind. 🎶🎵🎼🎸🎤 Letterman's, "YEAH," at the end!!
Can anyone watch this without a tear in your eye? He truly was a wonderful man. But..... watch " I fought the Law" A man in his prime. I can say this because I''m an old person too.
Joe is effortlessly timeless. There's a really quite beautiful message here, but it's also allegorical. The bees dying, and without the bees, the human species will perish too. It's a last call. He wasn't overt in his message, although sometimes the act was over the top. What remains are the lyrics, and they reveal all the secrets. Secrets he may not have even been aware of. Therein lies the beauty.
It wasn’t effortless. He and most who are classic put a lot of effort into being that. Joe strummer for years willed himself to become that and did everything he could to make that happen
Joe's singing improved significantly since the 70's. From a slurring and shouting angry punker on the Clash debut to crooning like a genuine folk singer. Brilliant stuff.
It might sound melodramatic, but Joe has actually made my life better: I suffer from depression, and listening to The Clash/ Joe always makes me feel so much better. I wish he was still here...
100%. I saw the Mescaleros in Detroit in 01 on this tour. Changed my life.
Just looking at him is life-alternating. I swear he was Christlike.

It doesn’t at all. My dad neglected the shit out of me growing up and Joe’s taught me so many important things about life. Truly a special man ❤️
I agree, his music picked me up at one of the lowest points of my life. Thanks Joe and rest in peace brother, we miss you....

What a legend. Joe Strummer was the best
They nailed this performance, and you can tell that Joe thought so. The album version is good, but this is sublime.
I can't believe that I never saw this before. Had me bawling like I did the night Joe died. Life hasn't been the same.

Mine too, cant believe he's gone, even after 20 years. Makes me so sad watching this.

Good job mate, he is a good friend.
Love the way he throws his guitar. What a guy !
He could walk up to you, say 3 random words and change your life.
How much does this world need Joe right now. A truly great and irreplaceable icon!

Rick Hrenchuk On ya!( and Lord Joe)
He's so needed during these tough times....too good for this fdup world...❣️. This performance is so true it gives me the chills
I would probably had no political awareness if it weren't for Joe Strummer. Best teacher ever, he's missed.
