I was there... Joe gave me a personal,invite... I'd worked on a bunch of his gigs, through the years, He'd rememberd me, from the early days... At 6 foot 6 inches, tall, I did stick out,I guess.. None like him EVER, in my 37 years as a roadie/stagehand,etc. took the time, after gig, on my birthday, to burn a big one, with me... One of the nicest PEOPLE I've met in my time on this planet..
Nice....I bet he was ...He was a very compassionate and caring person....He cared about the Worlds people .... A very good man , songwriter, singer and guitarist , who will be forever missed and remembered....🎤🎸🔥🙏
can you describe why he wants to get free from that guy before white man in Hammersmith palace..and why he was pissed off i dont understand english perfectly..?
I'm 58 years old now and still listen to the clash and Joe masceleros every day in the car going to work and at home with a whisky 🥃 or too named my first son Tommy after the gun named my second.son Joe theve grown up with he's music and love him like I do wot a musician that man was the best of all time so pleased I grew up with he's music.awesome to see them live 4 times made my life
I’m old and had a chance to see The Clash twice, in Pittsburgh and in Philadelphia. Very intense shows. Driving home from the Phila show, which was at the Spectrum and we’d sat straight out from the stage in the mezzanine - it’s a very big arena - my wife and I stopped trying to have a conversation in the car because our ears were ringing so much we couldn’t understand what the hell the other person was saying. (We’ve both recovered our hearing in the intervening 40 years) Peace and love to all. Don’t let the bastards grind you down.
I was at that Pittsburgh show too. A real highlight for me. Great seats and they were all that mattered in that moment. And one of a select few that still do.

Saw The Clash as a kid in London five times, best gigs of my life. Also blessed to see Joe and the Mescaleros at his last ever London gig when Mick joined him on stage for the encore. Few weeks later I land in LA to meet my family only to be told by my son Joe Strummer has died. Talk about ruining a holiday, devastated. RIP Joe, badly missed man.
When im down, im so happy that I can come and visit my friends alive on stage as if they never passed. Thank you Joe. What an awesome video to have for us all.
I was just slightly too young to have seen The Only Band That Matters (I was 12 in 1982 and my parents wouldn't let me go to see concerts at that age), but I did see The Mescaleros twice in California and I am so glad I did.
you did good-saw them both many times, mescaleros werent the clash but were pretty fucking close on good nights. cant ever really beat og clash though.peace.theres a video from 1980 capitol theatre, thats close to being there as tape gets
God bless you Joe Strummer. R.I.P. I read all these lovely beautiful comments from all different walks of life and its just so amazing how a person can have such an posertive effect on people so much so to change a person's life in a positive way literally.. I say again God bless you Joe Strummer R.i.P.
Joe on amazing form. So sad. Hard to believe he had a heart condition. Most of us won't be Joe Strummer after 50 Nevermind before or ever. What a legacy. Joe's Bday should be an International Vacation Day.
I met Joe only once but I got to thank him for all the phenomenal music. I can't believe it's been 15 years since he's been gone, definitely one of the coolest men to live.
To this day this was the best show I’ve ever been to and I was 15 at the time. You had guys there that saw the Clash at long gone places like the Palladium and Bonds down to guys like me that were kids who weren’t around to see them. My dad was one of those old timers in the back while myself, my brother and my friend were up against the stage.
R.I.P. Joe. I still think about you almost every day. You continue to inspire, influence, and provide hope for people all over the world. You were truly one of a kind and the world would be a better place if you were still here.
I was there, too.... At the edge of the moshpit, crashing into people. I saw myself on film for a split second. One of the best concerts I ever attended.....
Ya know I’m going thru a real crummy divorce, but when I put on music that saves my soul I seem to forget all that petty BS and get back to the business of rocking and this guy Ruled the Roost. The Mescaleros are a Great Band.
All these years later, and I probably still listen to about four or five hours worth of The Clash, Punky Reggae Clash, and/or Joe with the Mescaleros a week - Plus I got my 5 year old hooked on and lovin Joe.... Thanks Man! I've always seen Joe as a musical Social Worker of sorts... Again, Joe - thanks for it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, where are the Mescaleros nowadays????
Joe is an absolute LEG-END, he passed early so we recognise his STATURE, (as did Bolan, Cash Reed and Bowie) a rock icon. I saw him (Mick, Topper, Paul) live at the end of the 70s in Manchester at the Apollo. Love this, thanks stay free.
God bless you Joe! God Bless the mighty Mescaleros! As ever, watching this gives me the strength to get up tomorrow and try and try live well in these dark and messed up times.
I had seen him in Athens in 1985 to rock in athens at last live the clash and afterward at November 30, 2001 with mescaleros in athens,a year before we left .On the most beautiful moments of my life. For you will always be part of my life.
30 brain dead individuals gave this a thumbs down. Jesus f'in Christ could come back and people would give a thumbs down. This is what live music used to be before it was killed by the virus. Vive Le Clash Vive Joe Strummer
Saw them when they came to Blackpool So glad I did. The style of Joe's music is amazing and beautiful.. Sadly there will never be anything come close ever again.
Salut! "Without people you are nothing" Thanks to Joe Strummer, singer, guitarist, frontman of The Clash and above all free spirit. When I discovered music for myself and it started with punk rock and my first guitar in 1992 before the internet, it was inextricably linked with Joe and The Clash. He is an inspiration in his attitude, tolerance and feeling of injustice to this day. Thank you Joe without you I would probably not have discovered the freedom through music in such a way. Salut! Huey
When punk happened and all us kids got into it, all my friends were into the Pistols and the Damned, but for me there was a band that topped the lot, The Clash. Strummer sang about change, about what was wrong with the shit we were in, not abstract stuff. The Clash weren't alone in that, but they did it better than anyone else. Here's to you Joe, when I found my cousin's Tommy Gun single it changed my life. Yeah you're to blame. :-)
Forgot to add, on my previous 4 year old comment below, I met Joe for a film we were making on music. We came from NY to interview him in London's Round House. He was so chill, fun, easy to b around. We had a lot of fun that day.
It was 1999. Me & two good friends went. So f'n great! One of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. 7 SECONDS at Alvins in 2004 is on my top list too. RANCID & H2O in 2008, and H2O & BANE in 2009, are also on my top list! EARTH CRISIS & SNAPCASE & STRIFE in 1994 also. You can tell I mostly dig hardcore shows, but The CLASH are my fave band! I wouldn't have discovered hardcore if it wasn't for punk! As Roger from AGNOSTIC FRONT said, "never trust a hardcore kid who doesn't like punk rock!"
Can't explain how great this is, giving me all the power to stay excited and enthusiastic when theres nothing to grip on to! Well, no need to, you guys know ;)
Met him and spoke with him just after the concert. It was in Lyon, end of the eighties,89,90?Can't recall, but I remember a real nice guy, really concerned.Never to forget.

Damn shame he passed so soon. I would've loved to have heard Washington Bullets live, Joe, and would've yelled it at you! (Probably from front row seats I would have payed out the ass to sit in).
+Marcelo Gallo I know this is sacriledge (sp?), but Clach vidied once in Worcester, And B.A.D. once onn Boston. The first Clash performance was missing something...In '80 or so at Clark College. Oh, well.

yeah i realize now..about crowd surfing..lol
Great recollections. Thank you.
The internet is a time machine where Joe Strummer still lives.
"I WANNA GO BACK THERE AGAIN!"
Tim Howe he isn’t truly gone ever
Yes! Except the lyric is "Don't wanna go back there again..." about getting robbed in Jamaica and wanting to be back in his safe european home. :-)
Joe lives on forever
@@markwaters6409 true bit i think it was poetic license to make a point but you are correct nonetheless
@@punkisinthedetails1470 Fair enough. Sometimes I'm too literal for my own good. :-)
It's November 7, 2024 and I'm binging Joe and The Clash. They're therapy for this time.
