A high number of tracks that people love are about dark subject matter. The listener is where it becomes blurred. A lot of people just listen and sing along without any real connection. That's where music becomes magical. It can suck you in with a catchy hook but the deeper you go, you can eventually understand and empathise with the subject matter. That's IF the artist has actually done their best to be true.
Marilyn Manson only focused on the columbine massacre because people blamed his music for it and that made Manson get depressed and even canceled the rest of his tour and went to talk to the children that survived the shooting.
I mean, Weisses Flesch is pretty much about a boy who goes to school and kills everyone before offing himself off, also the only Rammstein songs I heard that were harmless were "Amerika" (which is pretty much a satirical song about Americanization) and "Sonne" (which is pretty much is an entrance song written for Ukrainian boxer Vitali Klitschko). But the rest are pretty questionable on lyrical content

They gave voice and projection to the years when I became angry with the things I disagreed with, felt frustrated by the limitations due to my age and parental control and struggled with who and how I saw myself and wanted to be. These songs and so many others like them are the reason I'm still alive today.

Not every Rammstein song "Du Hast", "Ohne Dich", "Fruling in Paris" are beautiful songs, Rammstein is a splendid group who just love provocation. They are probably the best band to see in live, for the show they do, light effects, costumes, pyro... But yes a many of theirs songs, are disturbing, "Ich Tu Dir Weh", "Buck Dich", "Mann Gegen Mann", "Du Reichts So Gut", "Te Quiero Puta!", "Ich Will", "Pussy".
