Just found out I passed my classes to finally graduate from college. Went out and bought glenfiddich 12 and bushmills last week and just popped them open. Going to be one hell of a good day. Thanks for your recommendations!
3.5 years and a chemical engineering degree, been one hell of a ride but I'm glad it's finally over. Also, pretty sure I've watched that glenfiddich video 15 times at this point in anticipation. Good to finally taste it myself
I wish my Dad's mid life crisis was whiskey lol that way I could mooch off of him. But since he is, unfortunately, a rum and coke guy, he divorced my Mom and bought a Harley instead......that bastard.....
I agree OGD is a great bourbon at a great price. It is my least favorite expression of OGD...but still a great bourbon. In Kansas I can get a one-liter bottle of OGD BiB for $20. Life is good.
Loved this review. My Grand Dad always drank this when we came home from hunting. Good memories. I'll have to go buy some and reminisce about my Grandpa.
In bourbon origin stories, Elijah Craig (also the nickname of my beard, but I digress) was burning out old fish barrels before putting his whiskey in it for shipping to New Orleans. By the time it got there, the charcoal & barrel worked its magic, & bar keeps started asking for that whiskey from Bourbon Co KY.
OGD is one of the oldest bourbon recipes in the US as I recall. In fact if my memory serves me Grandpa Hayden FOUND the recipe and it was very old by then. This is like the shit the Founding Fathers got mellow on kind of old.
I just discovered old grandad. I've been a finger-a-day drinker for a few years now, and I'm always in the market for a good cheap bourbon. I think I found a new favorite!
On the entry level side, just bough Wild Turkey 101 for cooking. Found out, Wild Turkey 101 is spicy, butter scotch, and just fine. What do you know, the big producers do know what they are doing.
100 proof bottled in bond is even better than 80 proof. hope it stays kinda unknown. last bottle I bought was $24. another $5-6 higher and not so "budget" anymore lol
I love Japanese culture. They make the best vehicles (Toyota), they make the best denim (now) because they bough almost all of our selvedge denim machines, they distill the best cooking salt, and they do make one fine single malt... you’re right when you said they turn everything into a form of art.
Toyota and Honda! Lol! I think Japan is the best country in the world along with USA. The Japanese are perfectionist. Everything they do is done with care. Its a very clean country also. There whisky is phenomenal. Very light and fruity. I've it. Just whish it wasn't so expensive. Lol!
Hi Daniel, I picked up another bottle of Bulleit Bourbon yesterday and noticed this had tiny cork particles floating around in it. I think its because they use a cork that looks more natural (I suspect multi-piece out of scraps like a wood particle board) as opposed to those synthetic corks. I already replaced the cork with a wine stopper thing you get at the store for 3 euro/dollars. Any tips on what I should do with the whisky? I don't want to put this through a coffee filter since I think it'll remove too much flavor. Maybe use a tea sieve?
Thank you gentlemen for the kind words and pointing out my spelling error (Thanks Rex). Ecstatic to hear my comment made it on an episode. Even Mooches have a hearts! ( I know, I am one). I have a request for a bargain tasting. I've recently experimented with a bottle of 12 year Grand Old Parr blended scotch from my local liquor store and am very pleased with my $25 purchase. I'd be curious on your thoughts. By the way, I use the term gentlemen loosely but endearingly. Have a great day
My pops once told me in one or few of his drunken spews of wisdom. "Find an alcohol that fits with your body. One you can drink all night and not wake up with a hangover. One that will settle your taste buds and never need to lean on a sweet mix. Stay away from sugars, and drink some water as well. " Took me 30 years of searching to find Old Grand Dad as my daily bourbon. I enjoy it everyday. from the basic 80 proof to the Bonded 100 proof and on up to the....114 that will sneak up on you.. lol
got a sample of this and very promising, unfortunately not quite budget in the UK and only seem to be able to get the 40 proof (it was very drinkable but felt a little weak). If I could get this at a price point a little below Buffalo trace, I totally would buy a bottle or two. Cinnamon was a highpoint in the taste.
Hey guys, i have a bottle of the newer batches of Aberlour A'bunadh which i enjoy very much. I have read a lot of good things about the older batches, can you really taste/smell the difference between them? What factors could affect the spirit from batch to batch? Slainte!
This is an interesting one. I can only hypothesize because I have no inside knowledge. But the A'bunadh is an attempt to create a whisky from 1898. And they're using barrels from 5 to 25 yrs old. That means, they can only approximate the recreation of flavors instead of have them identically replicated. That's why each batch is a bit different. I haven't tried them back to back. Maybe soon!
I have tried it and I have three bottles of somewhat older batches (37, 44, and 49). From what I've had and what I read there are no bad ones but I think, of the ones you may still be able to get, the 47 and 49 are outstanding.
my literal statement out loud after hearing the tripe comment from rexx. "did he just say tripe is fish?! DID HE JUST SAY........(ponders reality)....WHAT!"
Hey guys, love the show! Just started binging, so i might've missed it, but i was curious if you could do an episode on the distilleries themselves and their histories, who owns what, whos involved with who, and so on! thanks! expanding on that... maybe having an episode for each major whisk(e)y region?
Not likely to be that in depth in this show until we get through all the whisky in the vault ;-) Or maybe we'll start a side series on this channel where I nerd out on that stuff by myself while Rex sits in the background and drinks.
Old Grand-dad is highly underrated. It's excellent bourbon for the cost and easily available. People who turn their noses up at it have probably never even tried it.
I picked out this bottle as a substitute for Old Crow and was pleased. The rye and corn combine to form an extra sweet bourbon. I'll be honest, it's a lot like Old Crow; it's caramelized well for the price, but it has minimal complexity. It's down-to-business whiskey and it's not as complex as he was saying. On the nose it has a swelling sweetness and a fruity wetness(like how apple or pear are used as background flavor)that is drowned out by caramel. It sits well enough on the tongue by itself but doesn't develop into anything amazing. Making poor-man's Manhattans from this and Sandeman tawny port has been a good experience though . It keeps my fifty dollar rye(Tuthilltown spirits, Hudson Manhattan Eye Whiskey) on the top shelf for now.
man i loved Brenne, i try to keep a bottle at the house at all times. Right next to my old grandad and old grandad 114 which i also try to always keep stocked in the house.
Ballentines is the cheapest scotch in my local liquor store I have a little bit of a pallet for scotches nothing like you guys for sure but I happen to quite enjoy it which is kinda cool that the pros say it’s good whiskey thanks guys!
I loved me some Old Grand Dad, before my friends parents caught me stealing it out of the cabinet. I always thought it was smoother than some of the other more well known brands. It went down easy straight and tasted good with Dr. Pepper too.
Just stumbled upon this great review! My go to for camping whiskey. Bit of trivia its affectionately mentioned in Hank Williams jr “Women I’ve never had “.
I’m just getting into bourbon and other whiskeys. I really appreciate the knowledge you have getting presented in a relaxed manner with no pretentiousness. Really refreshing I love it.
Just found out I passed my classes to finally graduate from college. Went out and bought glenfiddich 12 and bushmills last week and just popped them open. Going to be one hell of a good day. Thanks for your recommendations!
HELL YES! We'll drink to you when we shoot today's video. It will air tomorrow.
3.5 years and a chemical engineering degree, been one hell of a ride but I'm glad it's finally over. Also, pretty sure I've watched that glenfiddich video 15 times at this point in anticipation. Good to finally taste it myself
I have a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 that needs to breath I'll drink to you as well. Congrats!
You guys need to redo this one with OGD 114 and OGD bonded!
Hillary was hitting up Old Grand Dad on Election Night, after she finished throwing everything at Bill.
Old grand dad 114 would be interesting! Cheers!
I wish my Dad's mid life crisis was whiskey lol that way I could mooch off of him. But since he is, unfortunately, a rum and coke guy, he divorced my Mom and bought a Harley instead......that bastard.....
I didnt know ash ketchum drank whiskey
Why is it every time jack daniels comes up you “just ran out of it” lol
I can get this for $14.99 at my liquor store
I agree OGD is a great bourbon at a great price. It is my least favorite expression of OGD...but still a great bourbon. In Kansas I can get a one-liter bottle of OGD BiB for $20. Life is good.
rex looks like ash ketchum all grown up with that hat

Old grand dad's is really starting to catch on where I live, I hope the $ doesn't start going up... it's a Gem!
OGD is one of the oldest bourbon recipes in the US as I recall. In fact if my memory serves me Grandpa Hayden FOUND the recipe and it was very old by then. This is like the shit the Founding Fathers got mellow on kind of old.

What is a finger-a-day? One shot? Two?
@@judgeholden849 it's roughly a couple ounces...
I love blowing my friends minds with the Suntory Beam fact! Thank you
Tbh this Channel is SUPER UNDERRATED!!
Id expect millions views with these guys quality of shenanigenz... ❤😂
With that hat and wrinkled t-shirt Rex looks like a trucker. lol. Whisky is made to be shared with good friends and family so is Rex really mooching?
Oh shit. You just questioned Rex's moochitude. I'm going to back slowly out of this room....
Love you guys but you didnt even review the whiskey at hand!
Actually Old Cough Medicine had Cannabis, cocaine, opium and booze in it...
When Coke contained actually coke...
Three years and still no OGD 114
On the entry level side, just bough Wild Turkey 101 for cooking. Found out, Wild Turkey 101 is spicy, butter scotch, and just fine. What do you know, the big producers do know what they are doing.
I'd cook with jim beam white. 101 is too good to cook with, meant to be savored
Is Old grandad really Basil Hayden. Or vicr versa?
100 proof bottled in bond is even better than 80 proof. hope it stays kinda unknown. last bottle I bought was $24. another $5-6 higher and not so "budget" anymore lol
Well, dang. I wasn't impressed with Old Grand Dad, but my palate was less experienced then. It looks like I should give it another chance...
Try the 100 proof or 114

You should estch YT vids about making ramen noodles and soup.
At least its not owned by the Chinese
My grandfather gave me my first taste makes it special to me because he is not around anymore
I enjoy the bottled in bond
I'll bet someone would not let them throw out the fish whiskey! No, I'll drink it! Hating every last drop.
Lol for a second i thought rex was gonna go catch pokemon..
The Japanese may now own it but I am thankful for that. The Japanese enjoy American culture. Beam is Bourbon.....Jack....is not.

Yes! A tea sieve is perfect. I've done it many times before. Side note, I always save corks from bottles I throw away. For this exact reason.
My bulleit does the same thing. You woukd think its something they would have fixed.
"it's dangerous to walk around the vault with an open glass"
Old Grand Dad Bourbon - Price in denmark 47$... Not that bad. Thats in the average price range here. Just above the budget whisk(e)y
Gd, that's robbery
Old Grand Dad
Old Forester
Old Overholt
Nothing wrong with any of them

Well played, sir ;-) I haven't tried Grand Old Parr, but I'll see if I can find it!
Gentlemen indeed.
I ended up buying a bottle of the reg instead of the Bonded and it's ok.. The bonded however is one of the last secret bottle shelve gems left..
yes it is.
My pops once told me in one or few of his drunken spews of wisdom. "Find an alcohol that fits with your body. One you can drink all night and not wake up with a hangover. Your Pops was absolutely correct! Good on him! 🥃
What did your dad drink?
*Bottom shelf gems
I love all Old Grandad (both 80 proof and Bonded ). My dad prefers Old Crow... Both are good, but, Old Grandad touched my soul!
Put about 10 drops of Laphroaig 10 in the BIB Grandad, and you'll swear you're drinking an $80 whisk (e)y. It's amazing!
Phillip Pratt trying this right now cause I have them both on hand lol
I put Laphroaig into lots of whiskeys to make them more interesting and to stretch my Laphroaig a little because I'm a man of modest means.

Teddy graham's. Not fuckin cinnabears
It's pretty much Old Overholt Bourbon. Which, I mean, you won't see me complaining (yes, I'm rewatching old episodes).
Teddy grams…amateur… I consider myself a level 2 cookie expert
I liked it, but I didn't find it much better than Jim Beam or Old Crow.
I totally agree!
Ronald Theriot Try the Old Grandad Bonded.
Old grand dad taste better than rum
Enter the future 2025 flagged
What is the strange blue label Glenfiddich I see down on the shelf? I have the 12, 15 and 18, and I don't know that label.
We'll be doing a video on that one this week! It's the American Release,Glenfiddich 14yr Bourbon Cask
well now I'm all extra excited. Thanks.
This bourbon was featured in the movie: GIANT

The bonded OGD is absolutely amazing.
OGD bonded is my drank homie!!
I think it tastes cheap. I definitely don't like it.
Yeah, I was getting all excited about that other bottle.

That bottled and bond is harder to find than it used to be.
it's really great stuff, regardless of the price . the low price is the icing on the cake.
Dude I buy that for 14 all day
Is it just me or does it look like they're in front of a green screen ?
Oh man, that would be the most ultimate Pulp Fiction style twist ever
Man I can get this for 14 in my area just tried it today and definitely goes down smooth. Better than Jim beam in my opinion
Old Grand-dad is highly underrated. It's excellent bourbon for the cost and easily available. People who turn their noses up at it have probably never even tried it.
OGD>Beam
@@BoomSkwad47 have you had benchmark 8? That's the new one for me. Same people that make Buffalo trace
@@MrRaphaelRobinson yes, it's good. Better value than buffalo trace but 90 proof is a bit too low for me. Need the bite of 100 proof or higher.
My early midlife crisis is here I guess, I’m collecting whiskies...and whiskeys. Sad...
One of the best whiskey's I've ever tasted! But hen it was my Uncle Ben's fav's, which he called and offered as, a' dinky poo!!!
Torn between grabbing this or the BIB. Anything under 90 proof is bland to me.

Awesome whiskey collection, horrible beards! Great story behind whiskey. :)
Just noticed the galvanized pipe bottle holder, back in the corner. Are there plans on how that was made or did someone simply buy it? Cool As Hell.
Found this bottle a few days ago in South Carolina for $10. Anxious to try it out now.
So, why did Rex get worked up about Daniel walking around with the glass? I dont understand?
man i loved Brenne, i try to keep a bottle at the house at all times. Right next to my old grandad and old grandad 114 which i also try to always keep stocked in the house.
It's Beam Suntory, Not Suntory Beam. C'mon Danielle
And a former POTUS had Old Grand Dad with his breakfast daily.
Ballentines is the cheapest scotch in my local liquor store I have a little bit of a pallet for scotches nothing like you guys for sure but I happen to quite enjoy it which is kinda cool that the pros say it’s good whiskey thanks guys!
DANIEL MONTH!!!! Also loved the last minute tap dance you did ... Lmao
Haha they keep saying this is 30 or 40 dollar whiskey, but it's literally $14 a bottle
anyone else curios about these fish barrel whiskeys in a masochistic sort of way? lol
I can’t be the only one who stayed for the last 30 seconds of silence right?
thanks, your channel is great, and i'm starting to love the wines more
Y'all should revisit and compare the bonded old granddad
Just bought a bottle of old grandad. Love it.
Old grandad is one of my favorites
old grand dad cough medicine was good
This and their bonded rock.
Go back and do a bonded episode
I loved me some Old Grand Dad, before my friends parents caught me stealing it out of the cabinet. I always thought it was smoother than some of the other more well known brands. It went down easy straight and tasted good with Dr. Pepper too.
Not Suntory Beam
Beam Suntory
Teddy Grahams?
Just stumbled upon this great review! My go to for camping whiskey. Bit of trivia its affectionately mentioned in Hank Williams jr “Women I’ve never had “.
Ronnie C you’ll also spot it on the stove in Pulp Fiction at Brett’s house
"I like the sweet young things and Old Grandaa haad, and I like to have women I've never had" CLASSIC!
Beam Suntory
Old grand dad became hard to find for me because they changed they label
I unsubscribed. Jesus they ramble on and on and on and on!
Thought you had ash ketchum from pokemon as a guest host daniel haaaaa
