Episode Idea: Make a price point (similar to today). Erin buys a bottle and Josh buys a bottle. (but they don't know what the other person bought) Then, do a blind to see which one scores the highest. A fun way to learn more about the whiskeys AND have a fun competition between you two to see who's bottle wins.

OGD 114 is 19.99 at total wine here in Wisconsin. 4-5 years old and tastes how a classic bourbon should. It doesn’t have the goofy fruit super sweetness or big brown sugar like a lot of modern whiskey from the last 25 years. It tastes like high-proof, rye spice, charred oak barrel bourbon, and I think it’s perfect, especially at the price 👍🏼

I see this in Houston $21.99 all day, and man, it’s hard to beat that. Very versatile neat, with a little water, rocks, or in an old fashioned. I like adding a few drops of water, really opens up some of the layers

OGD 114 has been around since at least the 80s when I was in college. It was a great intro into non-well bourbon for me. I have liked her since. Nowadays, she is hard to find and when I do, it mid or upper $30s.

I had a very similar reaction to this whiskey. It was recommended to me by a friend who owns a liquor store (but doesn’t drink bourbon). Your comment that it was just spice but not very complex was pretty much exactly what I thought about it. It has been relegated to a mixer in our cabinet.

I feel like this could’ve been the fourth or fifth video in the series. Maybe find a bottle at that price point that you like, one you love, one that’s divisive and then this one that you both don’t really care for. Coopers Craft is my pick for a video

OGD 114 and BIB are right on target for me. Square in my preferred profile. A nutty, spicy, cinnamon bomb that just lingers. BIB is a great high rye mixer. Both reliable choices for those that like high rye whiskey.

Woooooooooooooo. I love OGD 114. Its a very solid pour. Like others stated, it is awsome in Old Fashions. I have even done a bacon infused bourbon with 114 and made OF and that is some treat. Here in Murfreesboro, its the same as Nashville, kinda hit and miss on the shelves but same price range

Old Grand Dad Bonded is much better. Just did a head-to-head with WT101 and OF100. Like the OGD Bonded way better than OF100. I find it has much more complexity and flavor. WT101 is still my favorite budget bourbon. Heck, it's one of my favorites period! I also love Early Times BiB . Would love to get your thoughts on Old Tub BiB, Ezra Brooks 99, 1792 Small Batch, and Green River Kentucky Straight 90 proof. I've been on a budget hunt lately. I have no interest in being a bourbon chaser and overpaying. I like $25-35 bottles and those are four I have yet to try!

I’m a big fan but I like bold flavors the old Overholt rye at 114 is this but a rye and for me just fantastic. The Old Overholt is 19 in Ohio. Again this is all palate driven some like sweet some like spicy and some like savory and some like it all. I fall in the last category. I’ve only had one bottle that was a drain pour and it was 100% a bad bottle I’ve gone back to throat company and the bottle was fantastic. That’s what makes this hobby so interesting. There isn’t a right and wrong just different. Enjoy!!

I was drinking some OGD 114 while watching this video. What I get is straight peanut brittle and little else. This also feels a little "hollow" in a sense with little viscosity. At it's price point I think it hits the mark, but for a few bucks more is Knob Creek 9 year which I feel is superior to this in most dimensions. I'll have to try OGD in an old fashioned sometime to see how it does. Great review, cheers!

I like it, I even crave it sometimes but I have a hard time describing it and can't really liken it to anything. I usually describe it as "dark" - if it were a stout beer I'd call it "roasty" because I get like dark/bittersweet chocolate, dark, even burnt sugars, coffee...like the roasted barley in a stout. It's not those flavors expressly but it's in that family somewhere. And it makes sense because I love the more bitter stouts like Guinness Extra and Foreign Extra.

I enjoy all OF products. Plus OF 100 is very affordable. Benchmark Full proof is cheap as well but it drinks very hot. Buy a bottle and then add in regular Benchmark to proof it down a little and sweeten it up. 3/1 ratio Full proof to standard.

$22.99 is the cheapest I found in Rhode Island. Typically around $27 and on shelves every where.
And FWIW, it makes an excellent Italian Manhattan.

I mainly buy in the sub $40 range, but I have spent over for OF 1920 and WT Rare Breed. I have been thinking of trying OGD 114 and the OGD bib but havent yet. I likely will next month, but not sure which bottle to get. The proof isnt scary, just not sure which to get.
As far as bottes you might try, the Benchmark full proof (125 proof) and the bonded are sub $20 near me and I find the bonded ok for the price.

I finally bought a bottle of OGD 114. Fantastic for the price. Good taste, viscosity. and proof point. Its now on my buy it list. I want to try the OGD bib now.

Old Grand Dad 114 has long been a favorite reasonably priced bourbon. The BIB is cheaper and pretty good as well. Neither are allocated here in Virginia.

Have you considered doing a neat vs 1 icecube vs "drop" of water comparison on the less expensive whiskys? I have seen it mentioned and done it myself. In a lot of cases, it is an improvement in enjoyment. Don't get me wrong, I prefer whisky neat, but it has expanded my taste preferences a little.

We have dabbled with it a little bit, but ultimately tend to prefer things neat. It's less about whether or not the whiskey itself is better with ice in it. Just not big on cold whiskey. It's like warm soda--just not very appealing for our palates.

I prefer the Old Grand-Dad 100 Proof for how it makes me feel the next few hours and the next morning. The 80 Proof Old Grand-Dad has a lot less flavor for its lower price, with less after effects for me. Another one in the $30 range is Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey, it somehow improves my sleep, more of a problem for me after 60 years old.
