- Episode 112. I expected a little more fruit or pepper out of the high Rye mashbill here, but this is a strong bourbon that I would recommend starting later in your night. Lots of punch that does better after a few glasses. What are your thoughts on Old Grand-Dad? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour
I just finished a bottle of OG...I just think I'm a Heaven Hill guy...Really prefer them over Beam products.
It is very good to know your own preference. I also think our tastes can change, but right now, I definately enjoy Beam. Cheers!
I just ordered a bottle online for 35$.. should be a great deal I think !!
Certainly worth it for me. I really enjoy this.
Old Grand-Dad Bottled in Bond - this was my first bottle I reviewed in German over 3 years ago :-)
Found it!! Great way to start your journey online!
Ah, that's a nice bourbon whiskey, in my booklet.
Glad you like it, certainly affordable and available! Cheers!
Wild turkey 101 the best
Hard to argue! Cheers
OGD BIB is a good value...Not necessarily the best, but it is good whiskey.
I find I like it even better later in the Night. Flavor shines through.
So many wiskeys to try.
Yep, it is a life long journey!!
Cheers Jon this is one I love to have around at all times and is a fantastic sipping Whiskey and does really well in cocktails as well. Great review as alway!
Thanks for dropping in! I hope to keep it around now too.
Never tried the bottled in bond stuff and have always been curious. May have to try this. Thanks my friend
BiB is a great idea. I enjoy most of them.
@@WhiskyNeighbour thanks again for the great info. I have a buddy sending me some willet rye and a few orphan barrels to sample. Anxious to try the 25 year rhetoric
@@davegazaway3103 Awesome!! The orphans are a curiosity to me, but I would love to hear your thoughts on Willet Rye. Enjoy!
@@WhiskyNeighbour I will keep you posted. Taking the willet on a week long backpacking trip to sawtooth national forest to have as a last night celebration. I'm sure the lack of real food and drink will make it taste even tastier! Lol!
@@davegazaway3103 wow. Sounds incredible. I hope you enjoy every minute.
Great description of Bottled-in-Bond! You’re the man! Cheers! 🥃
Thanks! I just looked you up and found your channel. Great interaction and I'm sure I'll be pouring along with you guys this summer. Cheers!
A little funny timing as I've been thinking about buying a bottle of this or Old Grand Dad 114 as my next buy.
I would like to try the 114 too. This is OK, but not amazing. Worth trying though.
@@WhiskyNeighbour I think my wallet needs a breather from buying booze for a couple of weeks. One of these two though is high possibility for the next purchase.
Awesome review John. I haven’t been able to taste Old Grand Dad BIB yet. Your picture quality is looking crystal clear these days. What are you filming with?
I just use my phone. However, I am shooting on the deck so natural lighting. It makes all the difference. I'm too cheap to purchase lights or even a special camera. This is fun, just a hobby and I already spend too much on Whisky!
Whisky Neighbour ditto 🙂
Love the names of some of these bourbons over there..Old Grand-Dad..awesome...great job fella
Thanks Allan! Not quite good enough to make your sample kit, but a good, affordable Bourbon. Cheers!
Great review, this is a throw back for me my friend. 1st meet Old GD many years ago.
Always good to hear about an "old friend"!
Great Review, I think it is middle of the road as far as BIB Bourbons go.
Thanks. I think you are right, but still a good value.
Great review, Jon! It's to me a budget bourbon and I don't expect too much from it but the OGD 114 is a nice one, give that a shot😊 Cheers brother
If I see it around here, I would like too. There is good stuff here, but it is a little hidden. Cheers!
I really like it. And it's very cheap down here San Diego, Ca. Got a bottle at Bev-Mo for 24.99, can't beat that. It not quite as good as Evan Williams BIB, and it's even cheaper, WOOHOO!! Enjoy all.
Great value indeed! Almost no one carries Evan Williams BiB around here, which really annoys me. Cheers indeed!
Saw it for 16.99 at a local gas station convenience store in Flagstaff, AZ the other day. Maybe I'll go pick up a bottle.
I find OGD BIB a solid pour! I would never turn down a pour and it’s a bottle I always like to have on hand! $22 in my area, I think it’s a classic pour! Cheers! 🥃👍
I would agree, worth having around! Cheers.
Great review - I bought this bottle a couple of weeks ago but I haven't had any since then until last night - I made an old fashioned and it was bitter bitter bitter. I'll have to pour a dram tonight to re-familiarize myself.
I would like you to try it again against Evan Williams Bottled in bond - 2 of the only BiB bottles I can find in Alberta! havent tried the Evan Williams yet.
I wish I had a bottle of this to directly compare with Evan Williams BiB. I have that one open, and it's good, but not great for me . Are you near Calgary? If so, Sierra Springs often has great deals. Picked up my Evan Williams there for $29!
@@WhiskyNeighbour $29, that's a steal - The cheapest I've found it so far is $36 - I'm up in Edmonton. In the states it sells for as cheap as $12 if you can believe it so I figured it wasn't TOO magical, but curious non the less!
@@xPhillMcDx if someone ever asked me what bourbon tastes like I would give them Evan Williams BIB. It’s a solid middle of the road bourbon. Nothing more, nothing less. I can buy a handle for $26-29.
@@touchofgrace3217 I have since bought and finished an Evan Williams BIB bottle. Good over all, but in my market, wild turkey 101 is my preference for the same price roughly!
Raw and ruff i generally run from.
There is good flavor to be found here, but I can't deny the alcohol notes that come up first.
@@WhiskyNeighbour would ice help, or would ice wash out the flavor?
@@whiskeymusic9684 I found water helped the flavour, but not the nose. I would have it over ice on a hot day.
This goes great with eggnog or frying breakfast sausage!
The breakfast sausage I am up for! Great idea!
@@WhiskyNeighbour also good for the mother-in-law, she fills the glencairn to the top with water, cringe!
@@sksnearson7174 yikes!
I'm not a fan of this. To me, its a young, thin, rough, hot mess. And I typically like higher proof bourbons. I do like knob creek single barrel and small batch though. As always, nice review.
Thanks. I agree with young, rough and hot. However, I can find some flavour later in the night when the heat has settled. Thanks for dropping in and sharing your thoughts! Cheers.
May I suggest adding a little water to this whiskey? Was waiting for you to do so and am surprised you never did. As with so many other bourbons, I think you'll find it greatly decreases the alcohol burn while enhancing the flavor notes. In the case of OGD, water really brings out the fruit and spices.
Yes. This one could do with a little bit of water. I actually find it goes thinner though. The palate improves, but for me, the nose doesn't really develop. Glad you like it with a splash!
