Dalwhinnie 15 is heaven in a glass! Yep if you like the smokey stuff then its deffo not for you! That said its super silky smooth and ticks all my boxes! If you are new to single malts then its a perfect place to start, some will move on to the more smokey/peaty stuff but that's fine more Dalwhinnie for me! ;)
Just got delwhinnie 15 for my 23rd birthday with a nice steak. Enjoying a taste the night before RN and your tasting notes led me right along. It was perfect though I'd argue I can find the most subtle smoke in there. Absolutely delicious.
I always havs two shots of Dalwhinnie and one Oregon IPA with halibut fish-n-chips at my Horse Brass Pub in Portland. There is no better meal in existence.

I tried this again yesterday. Had the bottle half full for near half a year now, didn't like it a lot, lack of punch for me as well. I added half a teaspoon of water for the first time and it really brought out the smoke that is definitely hidden in there. Surprised the hell out of me, but it actually made it really good and interesting!

When sleeping, I even had Dalwhinnie dreams, where I unearthed troves of Dalwhinnie like a hobbit looting a trollcave hoard, and sipped pale, vanilla, single-malt nectar. So sad when I awakened. Now it's like $80 per bottle, and, having three kids, I can't afford it. But I have fostered in them a taste for whiskey and bourbon, and they are transitioning to legal drinking ages, so perhaps for my birthday...

I tried the Dalwhinnie 15 the other day for the first time after really enjoying the Dalmore 12, 15, 18, and cigar malt. I was very surprised how light, sweet, crisp and friendly the Dalwhinnie was for those newer to single malts.

I really love the Dalwhinnie 15 its only 35 bucks in germany and tastes amazing! classic highland scotch witch tastes like smooth honey , vanille, nuts and a litlle bit of smokey peat absolutely delicious... and its 15 years old... all that makes it to the whisky that i allways have in my bar
My first pricier scotch was the Dalwhinnie....and the smoke I wondered about if I would come to accept that as I like or dislike but the second pour was better and I discovered my interest for Scotch whisky.
I like Dalwhinnie. But considering the price point for that bottle here in Toronto, I expect more from the experience. That's why I don't drink it too often. I like it, but don't love it.

This one is a bit on the pricey side in my opinion being around $75 in my area, but ive found that with scotch you tend to get what you pay for to a certain extent. Im really glad i picked this one up its one of my favorites.
My wife bought me a bottle of Scotch as a gift. I had always been a burbon drinker and wanted to try a good Sctoch so she bought me a $100 bottle of Ardbeg 10... I loved it. I have been a fan of every Scotch set in front of me since.
Adam Brown Wow! That’s expensive Ardbeg! It’s good to be sure but there’s no going back........lots of other Scotches will come up short after being assimilated by Ardbeg. They will taste pale, weak, and frail.
Hey boys. Going though your backlog of episodes and saw this. And yet another great vid. I was at the Dalwhinnie distillery last year. Awesome place. What's the deal with the expressions that some distilleries only sell at the distillery? Is it that they don't produce enough to distribute? Is it a little something to keep the tourists coming back? Both? Neither? What do you reckon?
Repeat after me -- the Speyside/Highland distinction is iffy at best. Probably complete bs. Glenlivet and Glenfarclas are both Speysides, but really who the hell cares if they are highland or speyside? A lot of speysides, like farclas, say highland on the label, but they are right in the middle of speyside. And keeping extra corks is a top tip Daniel.
I totally agree on the distinction as a way to decide taste. " I only drink Speyside" is a silly sentence. But it does give a good general guidance to where your palate lies. I think of it more like a varying scale of color then hard and fast lines in the sand. So there might be a solid "Red" but on other sides, are varying reds leading to yellows and blues, etc. And without doubt, the "highland/speyside" labeling has almost everything to with marketing.
I spent the last couple of nights with a 1.5 oz. pour of Old Pulteney 12. The reason I spent 2 nights in a row is because this whiskey did a magic trick at the end of the dram and I had to see if it would do it two nights in a row. I nosed it for about a half hour leaving a ginger jar lid on top in between sniffs to avoid undue dilution. Then I took another hour, to an hour and half sipping and nosing. In the beginning it is everything I've heard about it. It's a fruit bomb with salt and a bit of iodine. That in and of itself is not a big deal, and I find it quite pleasant. But after about an hour of tasting it turned into a deep rich dark chocolate bar with hints of espresso! How the hell did it do that?! Scotch has soooo many tricks up it's sleeve! The more bottles I taste and the more time I spend educating myself, the more wonder I uncover at every turn. Kind of like Hakushu 12. I was absolutely gobsmacked that such a bright fruity whisky could blend with smoke and be so pleasant. I was also surprised how OK I was with the dry smokey finish after all that creamy, fruity palate during the sipping. AMAZEBALLS! Gawd I love whisk(e)y!!!

I did luckily find Hibiki the other day so now it sits on my bar top, and felt it had a scotch note more than a bourbon note to it and instantly thought of Hibiki when you first tasted and commented on this Dalwhinnie in this review, so interesting to hear you suggested to follow it up with that. I'm feeling a little smug right now :) I'm sure it will be short-lived.
You tend to show a lot of Scotch/Bourbon/Rye with the occasional Japanese mixed in (I completely understand, since that's just kinda what's out there. Do you have anything weird in the vault like a straight corn whiskey?
Just picked up a bottle for 60$ I feel like for a 15 yr. That's a steal. Ohh man, very apple! get a brown sugar and vanilla carmel after. Perfect for this fall 🥰
Dalwhinnie...................my first love of single malts. I even made a trip to the distillery when I was in college. Only the "Distiller's Edition" is better in my opinion.
Hey guys my first introduction to whisky a few years ago was hobiki 12. I managed to get a bottle but it is so hard to find anymore. However the harmony or master select is plentiful.. would you guys taste much a difference. I can only tell very slight difference only because of the food I'm eating. Thanks guys.
It's a good as dalmore cigar and that's saying something ,maybe even better 👌 granted its a wee bit thinner but ease of drinking and taste right up there

Merch is a great idea. I'd love a shirt that just says "Dolphin Smooth" on it. Haha. Seriously though, it is a good idea. It could help fund different aspects of this channel too. It wouldn't be difficult to sell merchandise if they're a non-profit at all. Just means they can't use the money as a profitable gain. If they took the money and re-invested it back in the channel (like buying more bottles for the vault, or giving it to the Wizard Academy to re-invest for instance) it would be totally fine.
If you want your woman to drink scotch, start with Dalwhinnie. It is lovely and like drinking rain water. Most drink friendly stuff for novices I know of.
I dont get smoke per se but I get a peat note on the tongue. Definitely not on the nose but unmistakable burnt note. Hard to put my finger on but it's a smoke like taste that isnt smoke but is in every peated whisky. Edit: I'm aware this isnt peated. I'm just using that reference for comparison as I get that unnamed note in peated scotch too
I think the 3rd or 4th bottle of single malt scotch I ever bought was Ardbeg 10 I hope I spelled it right lol. At first I was like wtf it was way out of my realm of what I'm use too but after about 3 or 4 weeks it did grow on me and I started to like it even through heavily pleated whisky isn't my thing. but if anyone bought me a bottle of whisky I'd be happier then a tick on a deers ass because free alcohol is the tastiest alcohol lol
My first impression of Dalwhinnie 15? Meh!! Sipping on it now after a bit of time and many others in its category…again a big Meh!! And at $80 vs so many more interesting pours between $40-$70…yeah, this will not be a repeat purchase. Ralfy’s 2 reviews on this are spot on…nothing WRONG with it, but lacking interest. Meh!

I prefer the Winters Gold to the 15. Both are really good in my opinion.

I find it interesting that you said it has no smokiness to it. When I first tried it, there was a lot of smoke on the nose.

Almost always, it's a quantity that doesn't allow wide distribution. A real treat when you get to experience them.

Whiskey Vault Yellow and blue make green and adding red makes brown ........brown like whiskies should be!

This is one of my favorite things about whisky exploration. Just when you think you've got a handle on something it completely changes on you.

In theory, we're fine in a similar way to how colleges can sell merch. You simply have to pay taxes on the income from non-educational sales.

Ardbeg is in my top five fave whiskies. If some on gave it to me as a gift I would be honestly astonished, and eternally grateful.
