    Purchased a bottle of this in the early 90's. Was a bit out of my comfort zone with regards to price and since I was an aspiring ne'er-do-well I promptly switched back to the far more reasonably priced low end rye from Alberta. Thankfully my tastes have evolved.

    You described it perfectly: a rustic farm in summer. Pretty nice whisky IMHO. If you spend some time with it (and I guessed you didn't because it is not your bottle lol) you will start perceiving a whiff of peat that is pretty nice. I think that, given the price, it is decently complex and interesting. I've been saying this for a while... Diageo's main range is good. Not spectacular, but well above average. I would take this Dalwhinnie over many IB's I've tried at the same price range.
    Edit: I agree with @andypeters2367, you should try Cutty Sark Prohibition. I would LOVE to know your opinion about it.

    I'm so confused by all these prices people are throwing around in the comments. $40, $65, I thought maybe i was thinking of the wrong whisky, because in Chicago this bottle is $115.00 USD. Which honestly is around the price all 15 year old Scotch is in this market. Maybe it's time to consider moving to Taiwan 😅

    Fair review Geoff. Dalwhinnie used to be my favorite in early days of my journey and I believe I still have an unopened bottle of the 15. The price has gone up a lot and I don't know if it's justified for a 43% abv bottle but it sure comes in a solid 15 year old age statement.

      @Gwhisky  4 месяца назад +2

    Really funny one!
    As for video ideas, I would find it funny to see you rate some whisky's low. Like, pick ones you know are bad and make a funny review of them. Or maybe just see a connoisseur's take on reaaaaaallly common stuff (where i live if you go to a local market all you will find are Johnnie walker's red and black labels and maybe a Singleton, I have to put quite the effort to find any craft presented stuff).
    If you want to make it really silly you can rate something that is not even whisky on a whisky scale (This diet coke is a 5/100 in a whisky scale, since one time i had a soda note on a whisky).
    On a more serious note, I was somewhat interested in a take on the Dalmore Cigar you mentioned on your Port Wood review video. Or maybe the Raasay with the cool bottle.

    Prices for this are mixed over here in NZ. There are a group of retailers who have this for between $95-100 NZD but then there are another group who have the same whisky priced at around $140-145 NZD. Some of the cheaper retailers have physical stores so this price difference isn't just due to an online only store vs a physical store with higher overheads. It certainly isn't worth the higher price. Cheers!

    I had a bottle of Dalwhinnie 15 maybe 17 years ago? I enjoyed it as an every day sipper. I remember it being light, sweet and slightly fruity. Nothing offensive or challenging about it, just wasn't worthy of a second purchase. I'd be curious to try an IB version of it with a higher ABV just to see what it could be. Keep up the great work!

    I still like it but it has been a long time since the price increased to somewhat unreasonable levels here in Canada. It used to be a bargain but is now overpriced here.
    anyone else remember the 12 year old Dalwhinnie ?
    way back then it was a better price and also a better whisky than the 15, I always thought.
    (actually much preferred the 12 - not that I disliked the 15 but the 12 was better IMO)
    I do not believe I was in the minority with that opinion - of the people I knew who liked it I think many agreed that the 12 was better.
    I would rank it a bit higher (the current 15) than you do but on value - it is just ridiculously overpriced here in Canada now so I no longer would recommend or purchase but am enjoying still the end of my last bottle.
