Cask strength Senaig? Oh lawdy lawd. Was just talking last night with the wife, while sipping Senaig, saying the only thing that would make it better is a CS version. Glad you covered this
Hey Geoff, as always a great video and and an awesome list you put together. I am looking forward trying the Ardnamurchan Sauternes Cask Release and the GlenDronach Ode to the Dark. Cheers!
Hi Geoff, nice list. Number one has been chosen wisely 😉 I would like to see your view on the Bookers. 100% Islay is also one I would like to hear your opinion on. Will be looking out for these reviews. Cheers mate, and have a great weekend!

Great video Geoff! I’m gonna add in Laphroaig 18, 10CS Batch 17 and the new Arran signature series peated quarter cask thing. Please review the Beyoncé whiskey. 😂
The first time I bought a bottle of Sanaig (so much cheaper then!) I had two responses: "This is just lovely!" and "Now make a cask strength release." Finally! Can't wait. I'll guess it will be at least $35 - $40 more than the standard release. Pretty easy to assume the cask strength release will live up to our expectations since Kilcholam routinely produces quality juice. This one and Ardnahoe. Yup.
Thanks for sharing Geoff. Interesting list with something for every whisky lover to look forward to (except of course for the burp-on... we have our limits héy) ... and leave it for others to enjoy. Slàinte mhath
La Mason du Whisky is fantastic shop, I always hit their Odeon location when I'm in Paris. I believe they have a location in Singapore as well, a bit closer to you.
Geoff, since you've mentioned drinking top shelf bourbon, I'd recommend trying Calumet Farms 16, if you get a chance to get it. It's surprisingly easy to find, it's fairly affordable for a 16 year old bourbon, and most importantly, it's not overly oaky, which is fairly rare for bourbons of that age.
Thanks for the recommendation, Tim. Sounds like a banger. Sadly I just ran a search for it here in Taiwan and it seems it's not sold here. Maybe can grab it on my next trip States-side. Cheers! 🥃
Just picked up an ardbeg 17 IB. Looking fwd to trying it. I keep wanting to get a better Jura. Bought an 18 recently but not yet opened. Bourbon, hmm. I’ve tasted lots but all I’ve really enjoyed is the pappy 20 and 23 (the latter, very different). I love red breast. Actually prefer the 12 overall. I’d love to try the kilchoman - it won’t be cheap.
Yes, guessed the mystery pour! Cask Strength Sanaig would love to try but will depend on availability and price. Really want to try Ardnahoe at some point, it hasn't arrived here yet. Cheers!
agreed, if it has to be bourbon, then it has to be cask strength; and at least bookers goes so heavy on the bitter oak it's like the bourbon equivalent of a peat monster for an intense experience
Started drooling over the Redbreast 18 and Sanaig. Doh price makes Redbreast unreasonable. Octomore 15.3 would be intresting. Think its gonna have the highest PPM ever if im not mistaken?
I missed out on the last Ardbeg 17 year a couple of years ago. It was $10 USD per year so I jumped on the opportunity. Please review the Booker's batches. Looking forward to your thoughts. I found them to be very hot and peanut strong.
The Sanaig is releasing in the Netherlands this week I think, it is listed on websites. It won't be for me, as I do not like peated whisky (for some reason I only taste smoke and nothing else...). I am thinking of buying the Kavalan LÁN, which has just released. Seems very interesting going off the description (priced around €80 in NL). Does any one have experience with this whisky, and would you recommend it?
I grabbed Little Book Chapter 6 when it was at 130usd, it’s good but I’m glad I didn’t spend a penny more. Love Ardbeg and we should be creaming our pants the 17 is coming back but the road the distillery has been on the last 6 years I’m all ready disappointed
My only misgivings about the Sanaig CS is Kilchoman's pricing policy. If people were disappointed by the price of their 16 yr-old, I saw a Kilchoman 12 yr-old (The Whisky Shop UK exclusive) and it costs 200 GBP. Two hundred for a twelve year old whisky. I asked the guy in the shop why they think that's acceptable when Bunnahabhain can release one of the best 12 yr-old whiskies on the market for under 50 quid, he shrugged and said it's limited, Oloroso casks yadda yadda. I just want Kilchoman to sell a 10yr Sanaig as part of their core-range for less than 60 GBP and stop taking the piss.
I’ve burned my way through most of a bottle of the Ardnahoe 5 (with a second put by) and I predict you’ll like it. I felt it took a few weeks after opening for the bottle to be at its best, but it’s very much an east-coast of Islay experience. Almost like a mix of Ardbeg, Caol Ila and Laphroag elements going on. Love that they actually put an age statement on it too.
Geoff, I came across a California whiskey while reading something online this morning. The distillery is in San Jose, about 30 miles south of me. I’m going to search for it and try it. I’ll let you know. (Btw, I’m pretty sure I know why your pronunciation of La Maison du Whisky was so perfect! LOL!)
@@Gwhisky , single malt and blended. They actually have several expressions. It’s called 10th Street Distillery. I see on their website that they have won a few awards. This is rather special, because as I’ve often told people outside California, the libations of choice here are wine and tequila; sometimes rum or vodka. Not even bourbon makes the list. So to have a whiskey distillery putting out single malt and peated expressions is special.
I’ve just finished an old bottle of 100% Islay Kilchoman - good stuff. Cask Strength Kilchoman is intriguing - they’ve just introduced batch strength into the core range.
I was surprised to find the new Glenmorangie "Original" 12 at my neighborhood liquor store last week. It is good, but I haven't done a side by side yet. Not as much vanilla on the nose was my first impression.
someone should tell the apathetic producers of jura and aberfeldy that coloring, filtering, and watering down is just an added expense for them. pitch craft produced whisky as a budget cutting measure and then they might get interested
Hey, Geoff. I’m a new viewer who got turned onto your channel through your collaborations with First Phil Whiskey. I’m curious about what you mean by a “fully crafted” release when talking about the Jura 16? I can’t say that I’ve heard anyone else in whiskeytube use that phrase before. Also, it’s interesting that you’ve been eyeing Little Book. It’s the experimental line from Jim Beam that is put together by Freddy Noe, son of Beam master distiller, Fred Noe. It’s often a divisive release here in the States as it tends to be quite unorthodox. But that might make it more interesting to someone who isn’t a big bourbon drinker.
Hi there. Thanks for watching! When I say "craft," it's meant to say that it's got a higher ABV (46% or higher) non-chill filtered, and natural colour. Enthusiasts typically prefer a higher ABV because it carries more flavour, and anything 46% or higher eliminates the need to chill filter, as higher ABV whisky doesn't cloud up with water or time. Un-chill filtered and natural colour are just indicators of a more natural whisky with less tampering. Craft is not necessary for a whisky to be good, but it's appreciated in most circles. And yes, I'm curious about that Little Book release. I'm getting more into quality bourbons these days, and a slightly unconventional bottle might be right up my alley. Cheers! 🥃
Dram face is a good source. Tbh a lot of it is just bottles I see pop up in Facebook and discord groups. I also have a few friends who are kind enough to share some upcoming releases they've learned about. Honestly there's no one specific source that I turn to. Cheers! 🥃
Whisky prices in Norway are weird and unpredictable. Most things also sold in Sweden are about 30% more expensive here in Norway, but the Redbreasts are cheaper. The 18YO was made available today for the equivalent to £106.
@@Gwhisky It's really weird, the other weird thing is that almost nobody in Norway has bought one yet. I'm not sure if I will as I've already got the 12CS and the 15, and I don't know how different the 18 is.
Great things to look forward to Geoff. Jura&Aberfeldy has been long on my shitlist so let's see if they turn things around. The Crimson Cask is a solid dram. The Infinite Loch is somewhere between the inaugural release (50%bourbon, 50%sherry) and the Feis Ile (100%bourbon) release sitting at 75%bourbon and 25%sherry. I tried all of them recently and for me the Infinite Loch sits above the Inaugural and below the Feis Ile. I also tried the CS Sanaig and yes it's as good as you think it would be :) Looking forward to the side by side review. Cheers!
Damn you're getting these bottles fast. Are you just standing outside the distilleries with an empty glencairn waiting for the new releases to drop? 😉🥃
That price of Redbreast 18 cannot be real. I live in Norway (one of the world’s most expensive alcohol countries), and the 18 was released here today at £105 😅
But we also currently get both the 12CS and 15 for £71, which tells us that LVMH is making sweet overtures to Norway, or selling off all their stock before jumping ship.
@@Gwhisky I see the 18 for £154.17 on Whisky Exchange. At any rate, Norway isn't spoiled with being among Europe's least expensive at anything. They're selling pretty well ;)
Boss G. , that Ardbeg 17 is the NEW version ( i still have 1 bott of pre-2000) but is aint that good and aint worth it and 200pops is a no-no ........ Little Book in Ontario for 220 $CA !
Yeah I remember the old Ardbeg 17. Funny that they brought it back this year at 40% though. Not sure what the thinking was. As for the Little Book, no idea if it's worth THAT much. Kinda doubt it, though. 😬
My advice to you Geoff and to the entire community is to never overpay for bourbon; It tends to be a lovely spirit but the entire category tops out at about $60 in terms of quality and value.
Really? Based on what criteria? Just for being Bourbon? I mean, I think some of them are overpriced and the whole unicorn/secondary market is an issue, but putting a limit to a whole category? Please advise.
@@georgekaroba25 The reason is simple, the rules of making bourbon are very strict, and other than some slight differences around the edges, most bourbons tend to taste too similar to have strong opinions about IMO. No matter what kind of corn-heavy spirit you put into them, New Oak barrels make everything taste basically the same coming out the other end. A $60 Barrel Proof Bourbon like Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, but if I'm being honest Old Grand Dad 114 for $30, blind in the glass is about as good as the category gets, and there are several YT videos conducting these blind tests that back my statements up ✌️
17yo will be a classic Ardbeg bs. 40% ABV, chill filtered, caramel addition, nothing to care about. Why buy Ardbeg, when you have so many better options. This distillery is history, gone for good. Kilchoman Sanaig CS will be a legend.
Supposing a food company that has the reputation of producing products with no artificial ingredients, no added sugar or colour, was kosher and organic, then brought out a product which broke all its standards and wanted to charge twice as much for it, I don't think you'd describe this product as particularly "honourable"? Ardbeg 17 is your honourable mention? I think you meant to say your "dishonourable" mention? I might be interested in buying the Jura 16 01 if it was more widely available. It sounds like it's limited edition for a specialist client. So, your list of this year's new exciting releases includes a rumour of something that does not as yet exist? Geoff. Really? I could find no information online about this so called new Aberfeldy craft presentation line, so remain cautious. The only thing I found was one limited edition expression called the "125 Years Of Craft 25 Year Old" bottled at 46% abv and selling for £500. However, on the subject of juicy rumours, did you hear the one about Macallan releasing a 12 Year-Old Ex-Bourbon barrel, Non-Chill Filtered, Natural Colour and bottled at 48.2% abv. It will go on sale for £35. How's that for a rumour? We can all play this game. Let's think....How about a new Glencadam 15 Year-Old made from 55 PPM peated malted barley? Let's start a chain of comments of whisky rumours....
Hi Reb. It seems I've struck a chord with the Aberfeldy mention. It's not "just" a rumour. It's coming. It's just not formally confirmed yet, so I'm covering my bases. I'm not simply making things up. Cheers. 🥃
@@Gwhisky I am sorry. I messed up. I was trying to be humorous with the idea of whisky rumours and ended up implying that you were spreading unfounded rumours. Please accept my apologies. I didn't mean to cast doubt on your integrity.

There is a rumour going around that sometime soon Reb Mordechai's comments will be shorter in length and more "chill-filtered". We can only hope that it turns out to be true.
@@GlenLossie Thanks. I'll try and take your advice. Sometimes, if the comments are too long, RUclips simply deletes them.
@@RebMordechaiReviews If it makes you feel any better I just wrote a super long post in one of Geoff's videos. So this is my Mea culpa.
