  • It's a list today, guys. These are all great peaty whiskies with fair price tags. They're also straight-forward, meaning not relying too much on casks. It's the smoky distillate doing all the talking here, and it's budget friendly! Cheers!

    3rd Torabhaig bottling on its way to market! The Altt Gleann is now my go-to due to the great value. It’s a bonfire next to the ocean! Maritime and Smokey!
    I bought a bunch of bottles because it’s being discontinued in my market.

    Hey Geoff!
    Meikle Toir, (peated Glenallachie) should definitely be on the list. Idk if you tried it yet but It's wonderful stuff, the original (the one I tried) is not very cask dominant and is young but complex at the same time.
    Very affordable and amazing dram.

    Another vote for Port Charlotte, but I’d agree Quarter Cask is good value Laphroaig, and Wee Beastie is raw Ardbeg - great stuff. Arrans Machir Bay is ok as a cask strength too, but Ledaig probably bests it.

    Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 is another good bang for buck Peated whisky imo. It’s hard to beat at that price in TW (I think I paid less than NTD 900 for a bottle which is a steal)

  • @darkoanton5
    @darkoanton5 4 месяца назад +3

    I haven't tried the Lagg, Wee Beastie, or the honourable mention. For me the Lagavulin 8 was very disappointing. That might because I was expecting it to be peat dominant but I found it very distillate dominant. The others I agree with although I would have a different order.

  • @WhoeverNevermind
    @WhoeverNevermind 4 месяца назад +1

    I also think Lagg is really underrated, but I can understand people that don't like it, I would not describe it as accessible or specially pleasant lol. This one, Torabhaig and Raasay are the only three new distilleries I really have high hopes for... but specially Lagg. It is such a manly, rugged, out there and wild profile.
    Anyway, nice video, I'm surprised you didn't include Port Charlotte 10, but I agree with the whole list tbh.
    Btw, did you try Old Ballantruan 10 or any Meikle Tòir? I think they are absolutely fantastic. Meikle Tòir The Original went straight up to my favorites, and Old Ballantruan 10 is, in my opinion, a hidden gem in plain sight.

  • @Rohit_M

    Thanks for the condolences Geoff. I like Ledaig 10, Longrow peated, Ardbegs, 5, 10 & Ugi, Lagavulin 8 is a great bottle too. I have had bottles of Laphroaig QC over the years so will give others a chance. As for your mystery pour, I like Miyagikyo which is a non-peated sibling of Yoichi. Those are great 7.

    I would strongly recommend trying Torabhaig Batch Strength. I do like standard expression and for a few dollars more :D batch strength elevates to a higher level.

    Thanks. Ledaig 10 is great! I've had many peated whiskies of a similar price range, but this one is the cheapest (around $30 at my local liquor shop) yet this one is rich in flavour and has a nice oaky aftertaste. Not to mention the un-chill filtered and natural colour

    Longrow is still findable on shelves at retail. The last 3 whisky shop I've been in have all had plenty Longrow. It seems like Longrow has been over looked by the Springbank scalpers, which is a bit of a silver lining given the general shortage from that distillery.

      Absolutely love PC10. For me the wine casks are quite noticeable, though, so I didn't think it fit the premise. 🥃

    • @Gwhisky

      The Oban is only VERY gently peated, and PC10 has a bit too much wine influence imo to taste "straight-forward." That said, both excellent drams. The Benriach Smoky 10 could have been included, but it was edged out by the others. Cheers! 🥃

    There isn’t a big production of white Port and since with Port or Madeira there is no such thing of seasoned casks only built to mature whisky using poor quality wine that isn’t suitable to be bottled, wich is the case of sherry, don’t expect to find many white Port matured whiskies.

    LAGG is so good for me, not prefer 'chemical' peat smoke of Islay.
    I haven't tasted LEDAIG, wondering if it is chemical or not🤔

    being that youre based in taiwan, why not review more TAIWANESE WHISKYS?! like the OMAR PEATED wouldve been a great mystery pour. or the kavalan peated? you can even find the omar peated in select familymarts in the small 50ml bottles!
