- Come with us on a new adventure as we go searching for a historic rubbish tip deep in secluded Scottish woodland! Our search leads us to a 1940's-1960's tip where we find "bucket" list items (literally) and an array of finds dating back over 100 years! Amazingly, two of our incredible finds leads us to the descendant of the very man who made them and our best finds story yet!

You know what would be really cool to do is take the pieces of the broken ceramic pocket watch and cast the missing pieces in silver and then put it together in a mixed media art piece.
Great idea 💡
Brilliant!!..
And all the Americans are saying "A-One", "A-One"!
So true!!!!!!
Yes I did. So interesting wherever we are we think everyone must know what we so quickly recognise.
Blessings, so happy to hear of this lovely piece of history re the "inkwell bottles"!! My Son is married to the Daughter of this great great Grand daughter!! Such a small world!!
Wow amazing
One of the best parts of your mudlarking, digging, finding -- is that you don't just sit back and admire your finds. You dig into the history, the stories that these little pieces of history uncover -- and in this case you connect up the historical with the living-breathing people of today who are connected to that history.... Love it!
How kind and thoughtful of you to get those ink wells to the family! About the die cast toy with Condon England on it, Condon Products Ltd. was formed in 1949 when a Don Rix left the die cast maker Lesney. They made a model of the Muir Hill dumper in diecast. Due to restrictions on the use of materials for non essential products during the Korean War (1951), very few of these models were made and business ceased. Lesney toys was the precursor of Match Box toys.
I started back to college in the '80's. One of my teachers was a professor Phillips. He explained that he was from THAT Phillips family and when he was small he had two nannies...as it turned out, they were the two sisters who wrote the "Happy Birthday" song. He was quite elderly at the time and this was nearly 20 years ago. I frequently wish I could talk to him again, but I'm quite sure he's no longer with us. So...there's another connection from your cobalt bottle to a viewer's early education professor. I love watching the two of you. Keep it up...I don't think you really know how much you are appreciated!
When you've watched enough of these to point out a war-grade stopple bopper before Gail says it :)
The Victorian bed end would look cute in your garden.
It would make a very cool gate.
Or trellis.
That ceramic pocket watch reminds me of the dormouse in Alice in Wonderland. His watch was stopped at a particular time, I think.
Amazing, how two little Ink Wells have created such a wonderful family history story. How kind of both of you to be willing to share this story and re-unit the INK WELLS to the family that created them. This could make for a classic type Children Book, your channel is so entertaining. The nature photos are beautiful and worthy of a gallery showing. Thank you, and blessing to you both.
What an incredible ending for the inkwells! I'm so happy you were able to do that
That is so cool you researched and found the family that made the ink wells and your returning them to the family, that is so amazing, I also love hearing the history of things you find, because of the writing on the objects, you ladys are always awesome, thank you for sharing your treasures!❤👍
There's a hole in my bucket dear Liza, dear Liza
It’s actually A1 sauce not AI, at least here in the states :-)
Best French fry dip ever.
I saw that too... and giggled! I kept saying to TV " it's A1 sauce!"
I also said its A1 Alex, my husband said who are you talking to?!
Gail and Alex, you are beautiful souls. Your joy in finding lost treasures and lost history reaches out and touches our hearts. I am so happy I discovered your channel. It brings a smile to my face. Your generosity in sharing and sincerity of heart is what people are drawn to. This is why your channel is growing. They know the real thing when they see it ; ) Much love to you both! From your Missouri USA friend.
I live on McMeans Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
@@colettewallace8811 Wow that is so cool. It is amazing the various connections we can make with people. Much love and Happy New Year.
At this moment in time we must look for any opportunity to encourage a smile in self or in others!
Hi from a fellow Missourian!👋☺️
What a beautiful story. I am so happy for Catherine, to be able to receive the ink wells she was looking for. Talk about a full circle... You two are so loving to do this for her. I do love your videos and wish I was there searching with you. Take care and stay safe. May you continue to find all of life's little treasures .👭💏
They filming was great. THE RAINBOW!!! THANK YOU...JUST LOVELY. THE MUSHROOMS!
The ladies need to publish their pictures, some are breath taking.
Loved the ink well story, what a lovely ending, and as you gifted them to Caroline I'm sure the good Lord will reward to tenfold and you will make many other brilliant finds. Congratulations on the subscribers, you deserve your success.
In the 1970s when I was in my early 20s I used to buy a small little glass pot of salmon paste. could make two or three sandwiches from this. I was very poor young woman and it used to cost 11 cents for one. I remember buying a loaf of bread and one jar for under 25 cents Canadian. It was in a little Italian store in my neighbourhood. Wish I could still find it.
Just found Shipham's salmon paste on line...must be available, but most likely in plastic jars.
@@brnagnrmn Wow thanks so very much
I loved seeing you and your mom having so much fun, I lost my mom almost 3yrs ago to cancer and miss her so very very much.
A fantastic vid, I would love to see some more bead making with the lovely glass you found. I like that you rescued the buckets and enamel dishes too.
When I first subscribed and started watching your videos I didn’t care for the long intro driving to the music but now it just wouldn’t be Sunday without it. Thank you for taking us all along in your adventures
Thank you! We really appreciate that! The intro was longer this week but there was just so much beautiful scenery to show xx
Dear lovely@@NorthernMudlarksLadies
👍👌👏 Yeah, it was a bit longer. Because of gorgeous Gails fast Rallye driving I almost got a little dizzy this time! 😁😂 But maybe it was simply because of the enormous anticipation to watch the newest of your fantastic videos. It's always such a joy to see and especially hear your excitement.
Best regards, luck, health and always a good mechanic for your race car. ;-) :-)
The Victorian bed end would be cool repurposed up ended for climbing plants like Morning glories and sweet William and ivy even or fruit too!
I thought the same thing! I love it
Dear e.
👍👌👏 Exactly what I thought instantly too. I would have also taken the boot scraper. Maybe the lovely Mudlarking Ladies need something like a trolley (a little bit more stable as the ones for carrying things from the supermarket). Or a foldable, lightweight (aluminum) hand truck.
Best regards, luck and health.
@@Chr.U.Cas1622 Perhaps the young ladies could use a compact wheelie barrow, for there adventures
@@primitivetennesseechicks8740 Ditto
Dear @@FlippinLids
Yes, perhaps. Nevertheless: In my opinion respectively out of my experience too difficult to load in a normal car. A foldable hand truck is way easier to stow away.
Best regards, luck and health.
Beautiful video! When you were showing the chimney, I caught a whiff of wet, smoky wood! It was as clear as day, so clear and strong it startled me. I'm not at all gifted with an paranormal abilities nor am I especially empathetic. I think that your cinematography skills and editing and storytelling are just that EVOCATIVE!
How fortunate we viewers are that you use your skills and talents to share your adventures with us!
Those little ink wells look like they would fit in my antique school desk. In the 70s, when my best friend was teaching, they cleared the old desks from storage and sold them for a dollar each. I still have it! How lovely to send these to the manufacter's family! I think the bird plate may be Japanese Luster wear.
How intrusting hunt You do girls... I do the same here in my country, but I do Alone 'cos noboby likes the aventure of discovering the past, to me it's a passion❤️send me your hello in your next videos... From Paraná Entre Ríos 🇦🇷 watchin' ever, sorry My Bad English!

I would like to thank you both so much for the new life me and my husband have now. We started watching your videos and was going to our local beaches to look for glass when we found our first ammonite fossil. Well that was it we was hooked . We have a shared interest and we love it. So thank you again
That's fantastic! There is no better life! xx
alex....why do i have the feeling that your brother is going to be hauling that shoe scraper out of the woods in the future?
Our terraced house when l lived in Liverpool had one of those shoe scrapers fitted into the wall next to the step ,,they were outside most houses
@@sandraford4235 Our houses in D8, Dublin had them too. Victorian terraced redbrick.
The small enamel tins were/are called “ ashets”. (French)Our family came from the borders near Lochmaben. You can still buy them in many sizes to make pies or puddings.
You're wonderful story on the inkwells, brought tears of joy! How absolutely "karmic". As fellow Canadian, I am "proud as punch" for
your gift🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
So nice of you to give those ink wells to the family from whence they came. Very cool. 💚
I absolutely love how you were brought together with "Caroline" because of those amazing and beautiful ink wells!
Keep up the great work you two, I love your weekly video.
💗
If that Phosferine cures depression they ought to remarket it!
Such a wonderful ending for the ink wells! One of my favorite parts of watching you and other mudlarkers is the history behind the finds. This one has to be the best!
The orange flower deco art sign would make a pretty coat hanger, especially since you have found hangers.
I absolutely love the story about the little ink pots, who would of ever thought. It's just amazing the both of you are really special people. stay well and safe. until next week
What a lovely happy ending for those inkwells!
Tom Burleigh left an intact foot warmer on hus dump on todays episode, could'nt believe it - you must contact him :)
I was heartbroken! It’s all what you have casual access to....the US has far fewer things because it is still so new
Big thanks to Alexascard on telegram I was so surprised about dumps I got from them
That’s wonderful you are sending the inkwells. Truly found treasure to be passed down
Great finds. I am 59 and I can remember when I was at school we had wooden lidded desks with an integrated seat and they were joined in twos. On each side of the desk there were ink wells like the ones you found. Over the years we children would play about with these ink wells and they got lost or broken as by that time we used ball points and saw no value in these little ink wells. i am guessing that an old wooden two seater desk got dumped in the woods and the wood rotted away leaving the ink wells near each other- which might explain why you found them close together.
What a cool theory!
Fabulous story at the end. Love seeing things thru your eyes. The rainbow seemed to go on and on. And I appreciate seeing the mushrooms and all nature stuff. Thank you. ❤️
It wouldn’t be Sunday without your sweet video. It’s snowing again here in Minnesota, and I’m enjoying your treasure hunting. ❤️
Wooohooo 50k!!! What a wonderful achievement not only the 50k but to connect history to present by finding the relatives connected to your findings. You did an entire 360 from finding it to discovering the history to getting together with existing family. It just gave me goosebumps!
Debbie here.......so exciting to be able to reunite the Ink pots to the creators family....and so kind of you to do so...😃
I love how giving and caring you guys are😻 You guys truly embodies what is good about humanity ❤️
Adorn the blank walls of your outdoor sheds and their doors with your interesting large metal pieces. You could probably sell all the neat bottles you choose to leave behind. Enjoy your program so much.
That was so very cool of you to send those inkwells back to the family!
Such an amazing story about the ink wells!
The enamelled sign looks like a Charles Rennie Macintosh design, maybe of the Glasgow Rose. 😊xx
During the 1930’s there were vulcanized dentures. My father used to make them in the lab where he worked.
Glass jar lids make great spoon rests.
i love that you think outside of the box alex ,thats how real art is done
You both r amazing pair I try not to miss watching u both cuz you both make my evening.... A huge hug from my town of Kingsville Texas
How terrifically kind of these lovely women! Love these videos!
Fascinating. How very sweet of you to send this to his Great great grand daughter .
I LIVE for this intro song with the driving and everything. It's like I'm coming along on an adventure with you!
That is so special of you to do this for a Bennett descendant!! ❤️ something they will forever treasure. Perhaps if you ever go back to that dump you’ll be rewarded with another!! Then you can have one for your collection. So cool!! ❤️❤️❤️🦋🦋
People needed small pots of products like fish paste as they wouldn't last once opened without refridgeration. Also it was helpful if you did not have much money. I used to buy them when I was a student.
Only the wealthy had Ice Boxes. I have an 1898 store catalogue, and I’ve boxes are $55. A lot of money!
if you uploaded 7 days a week it wouldn't be enough, love the ink pots, so cute and an interesting story. Cant believe you found the manufacturers great granddaughter in Canada. The power of the internet :)
When renovating a cottage buildt in 1934 we found something like that "sign" under the newer floormatt infront of the stove. To catch embers from doing burnmarks if floor when sparks fly.
How amazing to reunite those inkwells to the family whose great grandfather created them! I live in London ON and my family have lived here since the late 1800s. I know exactly where his business was on North side of King Street btwn Richmond and Clarence, mere steps from where my Grandfather worked 75 years later! My family heritage is from Northern Scotland! Lol...small world. Truly. Lovely job you two 👏❤️
That is amazing that you found family related to the ink wells, you two are so incredibly generous.
Take the griddle and sell it to vanlifers as a base for their tiny woodstoves.
Loved the video, everything about it.
The fact you found the family of the maker of the little ink pots shows how wonderful you two really are. Your giving them to the family, makes you two all the more special.
Thanks for sharing all you do.
How kind of you both to send your inkwell finds back to the family of the person who made them . Stay safe and well x
The history of the inkwells and the reuniting them with their family is so interesting! 😊😊
Your decision to send the ink pots to the grandaughter is amazing, well done you two.
So much story from some tiny inkwells. These little stories are why I love your channel so much.
Such a lovely turn with the inkwells. The fates truly were spinning magic to have bridged generations. Congrats on the 50K ladies...here's to the next!🍾💫😃
I thing it is absolutely awesome that you found his great granddaughter and that you are sending the ink wells to her. You are great people!
Omg....those buckets. AMAZING!!!! And the ink wells. What a great story. You are both so sweet for sending them to his great grand daughter. Bless your good hearts.
Greetings, Gail & Alex!
I haven’t read all of the comments, but just wanted to pop in to say that the little clock looks like the clock I’ve seen associated with things from Alice In Wonderland. It’s so adorable!
Wonderful video, as always! I’m especially touched by the generosity…unselfishness of you two in gifting the inkwells to Caroline, especially by Gail, for I know that they were very special to you. A tear or two filled my eyes as you revealed it to us with such joy. ❤️
Blessings to you two! May you be blessed manyfold for your sacrifice.
Much love,
Jacqui
❤️
Back in the old days they made things to last the test of time, not so in this Modern age…I adore old things! My collection from working on the local mudflats for many years is quite extensive. I am pleased to say. 👍👍👍👍 This is why I love your channel! 👏👏👏👏💗💗💗💗💗💗
Absolutely delighted with the story of those fantastic inkwells. The family must be elated to receive such an amazing gift. Your generosity is beautiful.
I love that you both followed the story all the way to her family and that you are going to make sure she gets them. Anyone who has researched their family history trying to make a connection would be so overjoyed to recieve such a gift from the past. You are both wonderful people.
What a wonderful story those inkwells now tell! It’s so kind of you to gift them to his great grand-daughter 🌻
If it were me I would hang the sign, back splash, on the wall in my craft room so I could enjoy it while working. I do love old things and I think it's beautiful just the way it is. Here we all are going through the rustic farm house phase in decorating and that piece is perfect . You girls have a big hearts and I know the lady who is receiving the ink wells will love you for your gift .
Those tin buckets are cool. And I l love that you are not only sending those ink pots to the great-granddaughter, but that you are going to try & restore the broken one. It was meant to be that you found those 2 ink pots for 2 of his great-great grandchildren!
What a wonderful story and how lovely of you both to reunite the ink wells with family members across the Atlantic Ocean ☺️
Stick it upright in your flower garden as backdrop. Place the metal bucket planters around it. White flowers would look lovely
Do you think that there was a school house by that dump at one time? One in which those ink wells came from?
Maybe the strange fireplace in the middle of no where was once a part of a one room school?
It would be nice to think of it once being a school.
Love the personal element you always manage to add to the found objects. Massive congratulations on passing 50k, very well deserved 👍🎉
Thank you! One of the things we love about mudlarking etc., is the social history element - the history of everyday things and people. You two are doing a great job with your channel - it's now one of the ones we look forward to watching every week! Let's hope we can meet up for a lark some day xx
@@NorthernMudlarks thank you appreciate that from you guys. Yes, we would love to do a collaboration when the world is more normal! 😄
That was so kind of you to give the ink wells away!!!!❤😅
Well done both. That’s what it’s all about researching history with a happy ending. 💕
You are such beautiful people to gift those ink pots back to the ancestors of their makers...beautiful!
Your hard work shows, it ends where you start from your hearts are in the right place ladies keep it up awesome
I fell in love with those 2 gin bottles, so beautiful, and matching, absolutely a magical place in the Woods. And you 2 lovely women are so kind hearted, truely inspirational 🪲
The watch time may be connected to the Alice in wonderland story.
The clocks in Wonderland were backwards.
I would not be able to leave any of the items you found. I used to ramble through woods many, many years ago. Thanks for posting YOUR rambles!!! So many memories....
So exciting to be able to return those tiny pots to the family! What a very nice and thoughtful thing to do. That’s why I love watching your videos!❤️
I can just imagine the pleasure it gave you guys re-uniting the inkwells to the descendants of Mt Bennett, well done ! a ,most enjoyable and informative video.Milk of Magnesia brought back some childhood memories.
How wonderful that you found Caroline and are sending the ink wells to her. You both are beautiful inside and out!❤️❤️❤️💕💗😘
What a wonderful gift for ancestors of mr. Bennett.
Tearful story with the little inkpods. Isnt it strange that the thoughts and wish of the canadian person had a result in England? Its like a greeting from Great-Great-Grandfather to the familiy. Well done both of u.
Gail and Alex it would be great if you would put the boot print necklaces or just the charms back on the website ... Love your videos TFS
What a fantastic ending to those tiny inkwells.
You have become a Sunday must watch for me, toast, coffee, and your videos.
Aww wow, thank you! Hope you enjoyed this weeks episode xx
dog looks like an old carnival game prize
I often just go backwards into your videos to view ones that I have not seen, and lately I have seen some lovely craft and trades that you have tried and I really loved to see that but this story of reunion is my favorite so far. I love what you ladies do, you are both so lovely and thank you for sharing with us ❤️.
The story of the inkwells is wonderful. What an awesome gift found in the forest.
You are wonderful people! How lovely of you. Not surprised. You’re delightful people.
What a great ending to this show. Love love love you two beautiful souls ❤
