Around 1950's My mother wanted me to know how to sew on a button, Then mend a button hole. For Christmas I got a sewing kit from Santa Claus . i remember that it was like a little picnic basket with a padded silk cloth top and when I opened it I saw a little packet of pins, small scissors, a very little doll and a pattern for a dress for the doll and needles. Now in the middle of the inside lid was a ribbon loop and in that loop was a small silver thumbell and it fit my finger perfectly. I was so happy. The other present was a walking doll with a pattern to make her more clothes. I did have fun that year. LOL Susann 73

Talking about quack medicines, I nearly died when I was a few months old (I'm 71 now). I had bad teething problems and my mother gave me Steadman's teething powders. I became very ill and no doctors knew what was the matter until a specialist doctor said it was Pink's Disease which was mercury poisoning which was contained in the powders. This was the 50's!!

Great episode! Willie is a hoot. When I first realized you were off in some woods with a strange man who was digging a very dodgy looking hole I admit I was a little concerned. But Willie seems a friendly sort and multi-talented to boot! Good luck to him. How nice of you to help him out and for him to share his special and amazing location! P.S. Greetings ladies! I enjoyed the huge haul and especially the pottery. I believe the German salt glazed water bottle's logo is actually meant to depict a sailboat above the anchor, not a number 4. Also sad that none of the lids fit your hot water bottles.
Hi girls, short and sweet. Thanks a million for your video. They are just marvellous and l have learnt so much from both of you. Love to you both, to cats and Schwoos too. Love Janice xxx

Well that was a lot of fun to see you both unearthing all your goodies. You hit the Jack Pot! A large variety of items. It would be hard to leave the site. Do you think you will return? Willy was very generous to share his spot with you both. What a nice guy!

Wonderful finds and video!! My father and I who live in KELSO, in Washington State, USA were so tickled to see the cup from Kelso, Scotland (I've actually been there myself on holiday). 🏴💙 Also I wonder if the tiny thimble is from a Monopoly set?? I have seen casserole lids hung on the wall with platters. Those mineral bottles can be mounted on a base and a lamp fitting can come up behind it to make a lamp. Children were taught how to do needlework at very young ages. Perhaps the ceramic piece with the cross held holy water for a Catholic family. So much fun to watch you guys dig up treasures.😊

Wow Gail and Alex that was a realy good hoard you found Its hard to say which was my favourite tho i do love the tiny perfume bottle.cant wait to see what you do with some of your finds.and what a beautifull wood as well.
Very true! Though these days there are laws and regulations in place. Back then there was nothing stopping companies adding whatever poison they wanted in their products. x
@@NorthernMudlarks Food was heavily adulterated before laws about food handling and chemical fillers. Milk was often watered down and had plaster added to cut down on costs. In England, as cities grew, milk didn’t get hauled in from the countryside to the poorer areas. Often a dairy in town consisted of few cows fed by the fermented grain which had been used by brewers next door. The milk wasn’t nutritious to begin with because the diet of the cows wasn’t good. Bread was also adulterated with sawdust and plaster, if you can imagine. And bread was often the only food the poor could afford. If they drank beer, as most people did because water was usually contaminated, it was probably the most nutritious item in their diet.
The tea pot lid with the dog on it reminds me of the type of dogs that were on either side of the fireplace. My Mom called them Wallie Dugs. We are from Scotland immigrated to America in 1957.
Well worth the wait! Only half way through, but thought I'd share with you something you could do ith casserole lids like the one you've found his week. I used to sell stuff on eBay and selling vintage casserole dishes I 'met' a person in Portugal who collected the lids! She displayed them on the wall as a collection. She sent me a pic and they did look stunning. Don't know if you've kept it but might be something you coud consider, even just selling it on!
@@NorthernMudlarks Gail and Alex, I know you can't take everything you find but I almost cried when you decided to leave that lovely casserole lid there at the dump site.

So happy to see you today. I've been looking for you since Sunday. Thank you beautiful ladies for taking us on your adventure. Love the tea pot lid. Drug companies have a lot of blood on their hands, even today.
Very true! Though these days there are laws and regulations in place. Back then there was nothing stopping companies adding whatever poison they wanted in their products. x
@@NorthernMudlarks so true poor people.
Great idea! x
@@NorthernMudlarks Gail and Alex, I know you can't take everything you find but I almost cried when you decided to leave that lovely casserole lid there at the dump site.
Tell Willie we enjoyed the music! It was very nice! All three of you found some great bottles!
The casserole lid could be hung with a plate hanger and used as a cute place to hang your hat!
or oven mitts.
...or on a wall as an ornament
What a haul!! I think it's your best ever! I loved seeing you find it all, but have to admit I'm a bit jealous. It was everywhere! The stoneware bottles, ginger jar, cream pot, and perfume bottles are my favorites. Thanks for letting us join you on such a fun trip. :-D
So happy to see you today. I've been looking for you since Sunday. Thank you beautiful ladies for taking us on your adventure. Love the tea pot lid. By the way Alex, I believe the large 'toothbrush' is actually a baby's hairbrush or a mustache brush. Good luck with your research.
Greetings from the U.S.A.
Our pleasure! Thanks for joining us! xx
@Peggy Reid I had been searching for them (frantically!) as well. It just didn't seem like Sunday, did it?
Two beautiful ladies, & many bits & bobs & bottles! Great video, great finds!
I have a lot of old blue and grey salt glazed Westerwald old German crocks.
We think they are beautiful! x

Thanks for sharing your adventures and giving us all a potted history of interesting items. I do enjoy seeing all the things you find, cleaned up and ready for a new lease of life in the modern world. No longer lost and forgotten in these places, where they they were dumped ... way back when? It's always a joy to go mudlarking with you ladies. Xxx
Willie'sbackground music was a lovely touch and I wish him well in his musical endeavours.
