The attacks on critical race theory in public education resulted with almost half the states in the country banning the subject. However, there are conservative textbook publishers in the private school sector that are rewriting America’s history of racism.
According to a report from the Guardian, the publishers’ edits present slavery as “Black immigration,” the Ku Klux Klan fought against anarchy, Black Lives Matter is blamed for confrontation with the police and former President Barack Obama was responsible for worsening race relations.
Dr. Chris Emdin, director of Columbia University’s Science Education program and the author of “Ratchetdemic: Reimagining Academic Success,” joins Hill on “Black News Tonight” to discuss the rewriting of history.

That is, I'd never ask a white person to look squarely at his ancestral past. It is just too difficult, especially when the world around you absolves you of all the ill and evil of your fathers. If you have any hope in understanding why we find ourselves in the place that we do, understand what I call Pauline Christianity. It is a Christianity that relies on the teachings of Paul for its god.
As to the biblical narrative that's embraced by Judaism, Islam, and Pauline Christianity. It is understood and taught that it is the white male, more so than any other, who's created in God's image. Since the biblical narrative is that God created the first man in his image, from whom he makes the woman. However, it is not until eight chapters later that this God creates the black man and woman as a result of Noah's curse of Ham. What you draw from this, given the reason why Adam (the white man) fell was because of Eve (the white woman). You draw from this that nothing is ever the white man's fault, not even the original sin since we blame either Iblis or the woman.
With this you are better to understand why it is at every turn there is this effort to absolve white people of any sin or crime. And thus, is this harried effort to control the historical narrative that here too the white man does not have to look at himself face to face.
@thanks for your response. what is your argument? Are you arguing that we should not be concerned over what we find presented in history textbooks? Or is it that we are exaggerating the concerns because of how the legacy of our ancestral fathers is presented? Should we not be concerned with a presentation that presents our ancestral legacy as being no different from other immigrants as the Irish and Italian?
@ Even a cursory interrogation of American history makes the case for CRT's claims about systemic racism. If you disagree, the odds are that you've either never learned American history or have satisfied yourself with a caricatured and sanitized version of it.

I don't think that a case was made for the comparison of CRT to private school history lessons, or the misfocus on educational achievement.
The video is about private schools in Texas. Private school enrollment is a fraction of total enrollment. There is nothing in the video that provides proof that there is a wide-spread problem with teaching of false, revisionist history regarding slavery and the KKK. A couple of snippets from a text book with no other citation and no context is hardly a case for the argument that focus on academic performance should be subordinated to a deeper problem in education. They didn't even bother to name the books or the schools.
I read the Guardian article that was given as the only reference. The worst crime seems to be that, while explicitly describing the evils of slavery, some books are too symphathetic to southerners, or are violating political boundaries, such as including unflattering remarks about BLM.
Excuse me...school board don't need to purchase textbooks from Texas....what better way to stick to those revisionists.
Texas and California are the largest markets because of size. The textbooks are written with them in mind quite often so smaller states are sometimes forced to adopt their standards.
Great now let’s rewrite the Bible and explain what it did to docile, discipline and control the dumb and blind.
Unfortunately the bible has already been rewritten many many times and continues to be molded to fit current times and narratives. We just don't pay enough attention to it.

If you read the Guardian article, then it becomes apparent that the problem is not as pernicious or pervasive as the video would lead you to believe. The title is "The rightwing US textbooks that teach slavery as ‘black immigration’." Nothing in the article supports the title. The only reference to immigration is a snippet "not all black people immigrated."
@@mickg3738 Here is a snippet from The Gaurdian article: "The Guardian reviewed dozens of textbooks produced by the Christian textbook publishers Abeka, Bob Jones University Press and Accelerated Christian Education, three of the most popular textbook sources used in private schools throughout the US. These textbooks describe slavery as “black immigration”, and say Nelson Mandela helped move South Africa to a system of “radical affirmative action”."
To further clarify the point, in the article it stated that there was a section called Black Immigration which stated “Not all immigrants have come to America willingly.”
I'm been a Huge fan of Dr Emdin..He is a superb example of a man and teacher....
She was not in that room when the Constitution or that amendment was written

Do you have the names of the text books and publishers? Examples of states or schools that may be using these texts? I would hope there is more oversight over textbooks and some standards that need to be met to be considered for learning. More details would be appreciated. We need to take steps to take action against this type of behavior, but cant do anything without more info. This segment seemed more like a plug for Dr Emdin's book although that may not have been the intention.

I live the UK and overheard an American WW talking to an Asian man about lincoln and the enslaved etc. She looked offended when I butted in and told her the truth about her history. She looked shamed and embarrassed. Racists can do everything in their power to change history but their diabolical behaviour is known about world wide, so if they want their children to look like fools so be it. It might just encourage them to do the real research themselves so they dont lòok pathetic and dumb in front of foreigners, who will know more about their real history than they do.
I knew this. That why I was hands on with my daughters education and now my grandchildren. Letting them know, read and see our true stories. Ex: Byword identity ~ African American, How can we be born in two Country. Textbooks come from TEXAS. THAT'S a Burning Flag for me.

When you corral people into certain geographical areas and limit their resources at the same time surrounding those areas with the economic fence to support the more affluent population reduces the possibility for success. With the investment not there for properly nurturing our own schools at the the same level is impossible. Look at the real picture first and then step back to collectively paint a new protrit.

CRT is not needed at any levels of teaching before college. You want race theories taught in history, then take an African American Studies class at any college in the united states. Or even better at just HBCU's. Maybe that will encourage black people to attend them more. But teaching race issues or theory in Highschool or lower has never helped anyone. I don't know why you want to teach an elementary school age black child, who believes he or she can do anything, something that would diminish their confidence in the world, that might not even be factual. Or a black high school student, who is already insecure like all High school children about themselves....you think it's wise to teach that? Something that will make them even more insecure. College is the best place to teach that. Black people don't need CRT...they need more focus on Math, Literature and Science. Those are the only subjects that command real money, and making real money is what determines how much freedom you have, not you race. But typical of a certain group of black people , who would rather teach their children to be activist in a time when activism is irrelevant, yet attention grabbing, in order to keep racial scars raw and unhealed so people like Marc Lamont Hill, or the Al Sharptons of the world can profit. Hill has aspirations of leading your children like some bootleg Pied Piper, just like his Mentors Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. Do you remember where the Pied Piper led the rats?

So you're never going to get an accurate history lesson. For instance me and you could be at the same event, but we didn't go together. Something at that event may happen, whether it was a fight or an argument, or whatever. When I go home my perspective of what happened, might be completely different than yours. History can be subjective as well. I personally am tired of history being taught through a 21st century lens. Do people understand that there were no human rights during sl@very? That every man, white black and in between were human rights violaters. So how do we want to teach this history, because those cruel and brutal men are responsible for the luxuries you enjoy today. And how far back in history do you want to go? Because the further you go back, you will find that the melinated people were the original oppressors.
