I personally witnessed the Advanced Combat Helmet, stop 7.62 rounds cold. No less than three soldiers in one ambush were shot, and on my platoon Sergeant his helmet stopped two 7.62 rounds! All three walked away from their head shots. I bandaged my commander’s other wounds and didn’t realize at first he had been struck in the helmet!

I know a soldier in Iraq who had an AK round hit his helmet, it went through the first side deflecting and skimmed along the inside of the helmet and out the back neckline. it knocked him down and he got up and kept running. He took three more rounds to his body armor before he got out of the open. Other than being beat up and scraped he had no injuries and was back on duty a week later.

There's a lot of mechanics that goes into the science of prevention of injury to the head from gunfire. Stopping the bullet is probably the easiest part, making it wearable is a big problem. The biggest problem is what happens to the head and brain after impact, how do you disperse the energy. For pistol rounds, there is a lot less energy in a pistol round compared to rifle rounds. If the helmet stops a pistol round, you're looking at whiplash and concussion at worst, at best you're ready to continue the fight like nothing happened. With rifle rounds, concussions and whiplash are likely to be the best case scenario if it's stopped, at worst you're looking at a TBI or outright death from cerebral hemorrhaging. Best way to stop the energy after stopping the bullet is more inertia, or in other words more weight. Which makes it harder to wear for longer periods, but also lessons the likelyhood that you'll have your head rattled by a bullet's impact. Heavier also means that you can use stronger materials, and therefore stop larger caliber gunfire.
There's a fine balance to make here, which it seems like he's reached, for now, a good balance. But I'd love to see him expand his repertoire and figure out the fine line between strength, weight, and the risks of neck injury and TBI.
God I'm a fucking nerd. XD

~roughly @13:00, He speaks of a very important and valid point that blunt force trauma to the face would be incapacitating. Deflection surfaces built into the composite layers are critical though. I'd rather take a hit to the face that knocks me out than shreds face areas and bone through it's deflection process. Shrapnel and debris are the most important focus of a helmet and facemask with bullet force mitigation being a perk.

He took three more rounds to his body armor before he got out of the open. Other than being beat up and scraped he had no injuries and was back on duty a week later.

as far as lrifle goes, based on what I know, in the evvent of a stopped rifle round and armor deformation into the head , the forhead would be probably survivable due to your Frontal sinuses collapsing during impact preserving the brain (Brainsup or a dented skull, neither is good) , the top back and the side of the head, probably not unless it has a good shock absorber underneath because no sinuses there and the skull is not as thick as in the frontal bone , the face might not be bad to armor as well from """an injury standpoint only""" because it is very good at collapsing to protect the brain. However to reduce concussions/ head jerk (brain bouncing) maybe using a collapsible pad as a shock absorber might help reduce injuries- similar to how a motorcycle helmet has foam (EPA foam) that compresses- permanently to coushining the impact- the problem is calculating how hard it has to be to collapse- basicaly the stronger the impact, the harder the foam must resist collapsing to mitigate as much force as possible but then lower intensity impacts will cause some damage. --Basicaly - low density/strenght/ hardness EPA foam (doesnt have to be EPA foam ) means smaller impacts do basicaly nothing, but bigger impacts are barely mitigated, However High hardness/strenght/ density EPA means that bigger impacts wont do as much damage(they will do some), but smaller impacts will also do Some damage

True, but I imagine this will primarily be used in urban environments and most likely through short term use where it's more required. The average ballistic/bump helmet and patrol cap will still be the standard for a while. But in the case of domestic terrorism/counter terrorism this might be very useful especially for peaking corners and not dying instantly to armed gunmen. Like the guy mentioned in the video, SWAT have bought these, and for their specific line of work I can imagine how valuable this type of protective gear can be. The only thing I would change is finding a way to increase visibility for the wearer since those lenses seem to be somewhat small.
