      He's right, though. They're not pistols - let's be honest with ourselves. They're SBRs. We should be taking the NFA to court about its constitutionality since it infringes on our rights and demands we pay a fee to exercise said rights.

    As an Alaskan I was interested by Clint's comments about the 10mm. In fact, although it isn't rare here, it isn't as common as I thought it would be. The only active military unit in the world that uses the 10mm routinely is the Sirius Patrol of Greenland. They're more likely to encounter a polar bear or enraged musk ox than an enemy combatant. They're also the only active unit that uses the M1917 rifle -- a bolt-action WW1 firearm. They say it never fails to operate under harsh arctic conditions and they don't trust anything less powerful against a polar bear. Choosing the right firearm is all about your circumstances.

    • @itsapittie
      @itsapittie 2 года назад +3

      @@Seriona1 you're right. The reason for the Sirius Patrol is that under the treaty that ceded Greenland to Denmark, one of the conditions is that they maintain a military presence. The dozen or so soldiers present on Greenland at any given time wouldn't represent much of an obstacle to a determined military force. In WW2, Greenland was a critical area because it was used as a base for weather observation and for aircraft patrols. Today the weather is observed by satellites and aircraft based in North America or Europe can patrol the entire Atlantic. If Greenland were invaded they'd have to rely on help from allies but I can't think of a reason any nation would want to invade Greenland.

If I attach a goofy looking brace to it so its more controllable( responsible thing to to) and doesn’t go flying out of my hand, that somehow now makes it a short barreled rifle? I'm pretty sure the whole reason most people are buying pistol braces for the sub 16in barreled rifles is to avoid having to go through the NFA and having all of the restrictions that apply. I don't see how that will come back to haunt us in any way. If anything it's opened up peoples eyes to the practicality of short barrels on long guns. And it may now have put us one step closer to the NFA being repealed.

    In the federal academy, we were taught to decock our Sigs every time we moved, so instead of one DA pull per mag, it could’ve been almost every shot depending on the scenarios. We were also watched like hawks to not thumb the hammer every time we shot, especially during qualifications. A DA/SA trigger is definitely different from most other handgun actions out there...

    While a lot of what he said I agree with and I'm sure he's great for teaching common sense and shooting techniques to new and intermediate gun owners/shooters, his concept of ballistics and modern weapons is a lot of fuddlore.
    For starters, .22 is absolutely a great starting point for anyone, even if it's only for 100 rounds before shooting something else. Familiarize yourself with the controls, learn to understand sight picture, work on your posture and holding the gun without immediately falling on your ass if it's bad (esp. for smaller people) and putting everyone in danger with a loaded semi-auto weapon being swung around with your finger still on the trigger (and yes, I've see that happen). If you can't shoot a .22 well you don't have a chance in hell of shooting anything else worth a damn. In motorcycles there's an entire segment of bikes called "beginner bikes" and it's even required by law in some countries to start on them because it's widely accepted to learn the balance, throttle control, braking, and handling before going to something that can shoot you into a wall over 100 mph faster than most cars can hit 60. Same applies here. Of course there will be an adjustment period moving up to a bigger caliber, but if you have good fundamentals and recoil is the only new factor, it's a lot easier than starting from zero.
    While we're on the subject, .22 is nothing to scoff at for a civilian defensive round. Under duress while groggy at 4 AM you are far more likely to put multiple hits on target with a low recoil .22 than some big boom gun where if you miss once you're deaf and blind and the gun is pointed at the ceiling while the bad guy charges you or shoots you with his own gun. If you want to go to war or take down a terrorist or defend your farm from hostiles hundreds of yards out, sure, bring something bigger, but for most civilian cases, 22 is more potent than you think it is with modern high velocity ammo, it'll drop a fat hog or even a cow in one well placed shot and there are plenty of videos on RUclips proving it. I read in another article about Clint where it mentioned he took a bullet in the shoulder in Vietnam and I bet that hurt like hell and sucked. Well, that high power round hit him in the shoulder, had that been a well aimed modern power .22LR through the heart, he wouldn't be here to tell the story.
    So, long story short, do your research, be honest with yourself, and don't choose a defense weapon based on how good you are after a restful night of sleep and a good breakfast at a safe gun range with ear pro and eye pro in a firm shooting stance yadda yadda, choose one based on what you know you can have deadly accuracy with at your worst and won't be like a flashbang going off to your groggy self lacking ear pro.
    Besides, most civilian gun confrontations end without a shot fired if they aren't gang-related where the intent is to kill rather than just steal property, etc. Most people aren't going to put their life on the line for your TV or laptop. And, if they do, mag dump them center mass, they won't do much of anything after that.

      The problem seems to be that people are reading into what they want to, rather than what he said. He didn't say no one should have them, that he was against them, or even that he agrees with the NFA. Braced ARs are a way to exploit a loophole in the system. That's simply a fact. Should the system exist? Not in my opinion. Doesn't change the facts.
