      @@RicochetForce But the Sigma are no where near the Sony ! If you buy a Lens with aperture 1.4 you should expect it to perform very good at 1.4, you have to use aperture 4.0 to 5.6 to come close to the performance of the Sony Lens, so if you want a cheap Lens, get a 2.0 or 2.8 Lens, fx the Tamron 24mm 2.8. The Sigma do not reach 90% of the Sony ! I have the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM and I can very highly recommend it.

    Thanks for the great review. This lens is a great option for me. My 24-70GM2 is a workhorse, but for the relatively few times when f2.8 just isn't bright enough this lens provides a viable wide aperture option to the 24/1.4GM without breaking the bank. What really surprises me is that Sigma is still selling the 24/1.4 DG HSM model for $100 more than this one. Even if they have a warehouse full of them, I can't imagine anyone paying $100 more for a heavier lens with fewer features and no better performance optically. It's a mystery.

    As always an excellent review Dustin. Now, if Sigma would only apply their creative juices to Fuji GFX and Hassy XCD mounts they would not only up their credibility but what a market share grab. Imagine Zeiss Otus quality which fully covered medium format.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад +1

      Sigma has started to work on Fuji X-mount, so perhaps there's some possibility of GFX in the future. There's a few of their past lenses (the 40mm F1.4 ART comes to mind) that I believe already covers the GFX sensor.

    • @youuuuuuuuuuutube
      @youuuuuuuuuuutube Год назад +3

      Sigma is releasing it for L-mount because Sigma itself is part of the L-mount alliance, and also releasing it on the only open mount that accepts FF, the E-mount.
      If you want Sigma to release it for RF and Z mounts, then you want to contact Canon and Nikon and ask them to open their mount. Sigma is not the one to blame.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад +3

      Comments below are correct. This isn't from lack of desire from Sigma, or Tamron, etc... Not having those platforms available actually costs them potential return on their lens design, as it is relatively inexpensive to have multiple mounts (which they've always done in the past). Canon and Nikon are to blame here.

    • @robertcudlipp3426
      @robertcudlipp3426 Год назад

      @@GregorMima Commentary noted. Perhaps with time, the 2 major players will open the door to Sigma. The lens cost for the new ff mirroless bodies from both Canon and Nikon must surely be slowing the migration as e.g. the cost of the Canon RF L series glass is a more than a little eye watering.

  • @AR-vf7vg

    Dustin, I can't not MUCH wonder (!) what the experiment could have shown to replicate each of You photos (+people distortions near borders) with the DN 21mm AND crop in post processing to match exactly the framing of the 24mm. What about the bokeh (both f1.4!), distortion and sharpness (without the complications of what respective sensors) !
    (I really do wonder. Not just for the sake of theory.)
    Also 'BTW' : Why not envisage innovate and complete your testchart photos with refocus on far-midframe (yes I know: extra work) : Field curvature, especially wide open, should not disqualify merits. After all wide open we rarely focus in the middle !
    (How/where do You focus for your testcharts presently?)
    THANKS !

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад

      As for your final question, I focus in the middle of the chart. I do refocus in the corners if I find corner performance really poor to see if focus is the problem. In this case, the corner performance I saw matched what the MTF charts suggest.
