    Carbon monoxide poisoning can be a fatal condition!
    Carbon monoxide is released from incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons (due to insufficient oxygen).
    Carbon monoxide poisoning shifts the oxygen dissociation curve to the left. It has high affinity for hemoglobin...It’s also a mitochondrial toxin (inhibits complex IV of the electron transport chain).
    Symptoms include headache, dizziness, muscle aches, flu-like symptom.
    Treatment is by 100% oxygen or hyperbaric oxygen chamber. If you like my videos, please consider leaving a tip at www.paypal.me/perfectionalis/

    How can a person from 1 day to 5 years tell their adult caretakers that they are being effected?? A 3 month old could have symptoms, and not tell you. It happened to me all my youth, until I changed rooms. I slept directly above a furnace for most of my youth, I complained once I had words, no one could address my issues. I had several idiopathic conditions I know now as CO poisoning. A baby can’t tell you they are hallucinating, and suffering and then passing out at night, or anything for that matter. My mom thought I just didn’t want to get out of bed. Listen your kids, closely. Read between the lines when it comes to humans who are too young to communicate like adults

      Can carbon monoxide still be dangerous if the car's motor remains on, or is it safe even if I forget to put it off and stay inside the garage?@@MedicosisPerfectionalis

    The cherry red colour sometimes found in CO poisoning isn't due to decreased utilization of the O2 in mitochondria and having more oxygenated blood in the veins, but due to the CO itself tightly binding to the iron in heme molecules in the blood and skin. Carboxyhemoglobin is bright red even in absence of oxygen. This trait of carbon monoxide is why it is used in the meatpacking industry to artificially maintain the bright red colour of fresh meat in packaged meat products.
    Still loved the video though! I really appreciate your content!

    • @MedicosisPerfectionalis
      @MedicosisPerfectionalis  Год назад +1

      Thank you, but the cherry red skin can also be seen in hydrogen cyanide poisoning. Do you have an explanation for that?

    • @davidrobertson3544
      @davidrobertson3544 Год назад

      @Medicosis Perfectionalis Let me give this a try. I'm not a chemist, and I might be confused here, but this is what I pieced together. Colour absorption is due to electons in orbitals matching the energy levels of the light they absorb, so red is absorbed by lower energy electrons and green light is absorbed by higher energy electrons. Now the ligands that bind to Fe 2+ affect the energy level of valence electrons and stronger ligands increase the energy level and in turn affect the absorption. Fe 2+ in water is weakly bound by water and absorbs red (low energy light) and appears green, and when bound more strongly by heme, it absorbs higher energy green light and appears red. The strong ligands bind heme in the 6th association site the red a brighter shade like cherry red. Carbon monoxide and cyanide are all strong electron acceptors and increase the energy levels of the valence electrons and explain the cherry red colour of hemoglobin and myoglobin in CN and CO poisoning.
      TLDR: The strength of the ligand determines the color of hemoglobin, and CN and CO are strong and make it cherry red.

    Patient B? Because CO affects tissue oxygenation in more ways than does hemolytic anemia (anemic + cytotoxic hypoxia)
    Also I believe if the hemolytic anemia is chronic, increased EPO would be of more significant help than in CO poisoning

    So CO2 has to rise to transport oxygen into the tissue ? Is low carbohydrate diet adverse to oxygen exchange ? Also these keto diets are usually combined with high cardio output exercise increase muscle contraction , mouth breathing and anaerobic cellular metabolism increasing lactic acid . Whats your thoughts on this common behaviour ? Could it increase CO toxicity ?

    • @honeydew5557

      U talking about 2 different things. One is digestive system and the other is respiratory system... what u eat converted into glucose and glucose used for atp production aka energy.. and excess glucose converted into other mean of storage such as when adipose tissue aka fat. When u exercise u use energy as much as u can until the cell cannot compensate and get in anaerobic resp and producing lactic acid. The energy is came from glucose and oxygen...
