    Hey Look guys! you can actually modify an RX-7 without an LS swap! So stop swapping LS junk into a Iconic Car.

    • @nawzy202
      @nawzy202 8 лет назад +12

      ls junk? you mean that ls that weights as little as v6 makes more power then rotary ever will the one that is more reliable and cheaper?

    • @Makemeadeveryday
      @Makemeadeveryday 8 лет назад +26

      +nawzy202 considering a 2 rotor can make more power than a v8? weighs 3x less? has like a quarter of the displacement? that's what I though

    • @nawzy202
      @nawzy202 8 лет назад +1

      +Strength OD which v8 though? which rotary makes more power we are talking about extreme power here let me see 2000hp rotary and il show u 2500hp ls. Rotary is a failed engine its a two stroke design burns more oil then my semi truck

    • @Makemeadeveryday
      @Makemeadeveryday 8 лет назад +16

      +nawzy202 k show me your 2500 hp ls that isn't even practical can't run on regular fuel(isopropyl probably) and needs 3million sprays of nos, not only that but every 2 runs it needs a new build because the stress that is endures makes no more sense than semi truck uphill racing. Show me a practical ls v8 that can out do a practical rotary. O

    • @nawzy202
      @nawzy202 8 лет назад +1

      +Strength OD you kidding right practical rotary? there is no such think even stock its a 100k milage engine if you lucky. how much do u know about rotary and the problems it has? it burns more fuel ten ls engine per liter. its more expensive to rebuilt the power output is weak how about difference is temperatures on the rotary sides resulting in poor sealing and low compression. take 650hp practical not only will ls make those power easy it will last a lot longer and be cheaper to build.

    I love RX-7s and I would own one but I don't have the knowledge it takes to own one of these. It would probably take years of studying the rotary to be able to make that power and maintain it as a street car. For example an MX-5 is probably one of the most basic engines out there and is really easy to maintain and make power. It is one of those cars that I really love but would sadly never own. :(

    when the LS1 swappers argue that their swap gives more power, lol they forget that they fuck up the near perfect weight distribution of 50/50 lol the Rex 7 was meant to have a rotary!

      @abhirmalhotra5103 8 лет назад +1

    • @frx1p32dz2
      @frx1p32dz2 8 лет назад

      Abhir Malhotra um the car was engineered around the rotary engine, by placing another engine of course you offset the original engineered design of the cars center of gravity, weight distribution and various other things, its not to the exaggerated point you may have taken it as, but enough to disrupt the design in which the RX7 was originally made. Maybe you should learn more about the physics of a car and what effects it rather than simply relying on what you feel or think is better. its cool man i was just poking fun at the LS1 swappers but of course we get dudes like you who take a literal serious notion on a comment like mine :)

    • @abhirmalhotra5103
      @abhirmalhotra5103 8 лет назад

      +Katsu Wolf actually the ls1 doesnt cause all the many problems you might think it would. Everybody thinks that.

    • @frx1p32dz2
      @frx1p32dz2 8 лет назад

      Abhir Malhotra it disrupts its original engineered balance. any modification will effect a vehicle in some way or another, its not a problem, I never said it was. I simply stated it creates an unbalance, the LS1 is a massive engine compared to the rotary. it is heavier than the rotary. this is a disruption and imbalance of the original design. do you have the years of experienc and credentials like the engineers behind the FDs design? no, while yes engine swapping works. it doesnt mean its perfectly balanced. or perfectly tuned. as cars are designed around a one specific engine that fits its purpose.

    • @abhirmalhotra5103
      @abhirmalhotra5103 8 лет назад

      +Katsu Wolf what you are saying is absolutely right. A car is designed for an engine and changing that will disrupt balance. However with the ls swaps the imbalance is so less that its no problem at all. And yes the rotary is lighter provided its NA. With a turbocharger and all associated plimbing the weight difference is probably single digits. So its never a problem and not enough the change the car feels driving through a canyon. Isnt that what matters? Technically however you are absolutely right. You are right if ones follow the book. Peace. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    • @cristianr3712
      @cristianr3712 8 лет назад

      is not as reliable as a "normal" engine, but if you keep it with good oil it will run pretty hard for quite a lot of time, obviously way more than just some 5000 miles, maybe you should look for a local owner and check for comments in rx forums.

      +Chinaman Champ 120,000 miles on my 13b rew before i had to swap out my apex seals, total cost for a rebuild $1,200. The engines are better then piston engines, there are less then 10 moving parts in the engine which means less to break. Keep in mind the rotary originally is an airplane engine so it's only natural that it's reliable. Only those who don't know anything about Automobiles claim the rotary is unreliable. those are usually the same idiots who high rev a non high rev engined vehicle and expect it not to shoot a rod, which the rotary never do because no rods. The car was designed for racing first, economy second.

    Title says 650 horsepower. Description says 546whp. Why not just be super transparent and put the whp figure everywhere? That's what tuner culture goes by anyways. Number inflation is a cancer in car culture, and very annoying.

    • @RoadsUntraveled
      @RoadsUntraveled  8 лет назад +8

      +Numinous A lot of people that aren't as nerdy about cars only know #'s like the Hellcat's 707hp, Corvette's 650hp, or a Porsche 911 that has 500hp. This RX7 has 650hp, plain and simple. I'm sorry you find crank hp figures annoying!

    • @numinous4789
      @numinous4789 8 лет назад +2

      Roads Untraveled What you call nerdy others call honest. And apparently you don't know too much about car culture. The only major group that discuss bhp (i.e., crankshaft horsepower) is auto manufacturers, LOL. Engine builders do too, obviously, but that's because they hook up the engines they build to engine dynos, not chassis dynos.
      Any respectable tuner never talks about bhp. Power at the crank is irrelevant to performance enthusiasts. It's what you put down to the ground that matters.
      Number inflation, pure and simple. And even the 540+ was smoke and mirrors because he kept talking about it being on a 500whp tune throughout the vid. Call a duck a duck, simple as that. It MADE 540+. It is MAKING 500whp. One day he HOPES TO MAKE 650whp.

    • @numinous4789
      @numinous4789 8 лет назад

      Rich Samuelson I'll just call a liar a liar. Or, to give the benefit of the doubt, semantics semantics. But let's be clear: there was NO 650whp car in this vid, period. As someone who has tuned Mazdas, I can't stand number inflators.

    • @richsamuelson6962
      @richsamuelson6962 8 лет назад +2

      Well your point in your last comments were how little people talk about HP at the crank. In my experience people talk about whatever they like. Either one of us cannot say exactly how folk behave everywhere in the world. But yeah, I agree with the click bait figures..

    • @numinous4789
      @numinous4789 8 лет назад

      Rich Samuelson Agreed. And that's my point. It's a form of click bait, leaving the number-inflation "issue" that's prevalent in car culture aside.

    What a cool video. Very well done sir! The music choice, camera angles, landscape and road choice all come together magnificently! I think it's very strange in a good way how the exhaust honestly sounds kinda fart can like when cruising at low rams, but when you rev it out all the way it sounds like its going to rip the doors off! Really cool car no doubt about it

      Roughly 650 HP at the crank which = 546 whp that it was recently dynoed at. In the video it's at 500whp. I said all of this in the video.

      +Tommy
      With 540 WHP, 650 is a pretty good estimate of what the engine puts out before drivetrain losses. It is a number that can be used to compare to the hp numbers that manufacturers put out.

      +PacificCoastAuto I understand but 650hp was never mentioned by the owner or recorded on the dyno tests. No big deal, just saying Roads Untravelled should put the actual numbers not a 'pretty good estimate' to attract viewers. Still an amazing car and great vid.

    way to lie about the hp

    • @RoadsUntraveled
      @RoadsUntraveled  8 лет назад

      +DannyH Hey! So basically there's two kinds of HP. HP measured once it reaches the ground, and HP at the crank in the engine, generally about 15% is lost through the drivetrain. So the new Challenger Hellcat has 707HP as Dodge advertises it, but if you were to put it on a dyno it would read somewhere around 600HP at the wheels. Same story here. This car has around 650HP at the crank, which equals out 546 HP at the wheels which is what the dyno graph read. Thanks for watching!

    • @Gorzon567
      @Gorzon567 8 лет назад

      +Roads Untraveled I get that but putting a false number on the title is misleading just say the whp of the cars or in the title or specify that it's crank horsepower.

    • @RoadsUntraveled
      @RoadsUntraveled  8 лет назад +6

      +DannyH We're just trying to appeal to the widest audience possible, and by putting "WHP" in the title, it will confuse a LOT of people who don't know what WHP is. Same if we put "650 HP (At the crank)" in the title, people will be just as confused. The car has 650HP as I just explained, no false numbers! Drive channel, Motor Trend, EVO, and a bunch of other channels do the same thing, using the HP metric that manufacturers use is just easier and everyone gets it.
