Love Mary Kathleen. We also enjoyed exploring the Ballara mining trail across the highway. The entrance was just a couple of km towards Cloncurry. There’s a cool narrow gauge rail tunnel.
Best induction cooker is the Healthy Choice brand. Can buy from multiple places but currently $54 from Catch. Has been everywhere with us, on the roughest roads and never had an issue. So much so that we no longer use the gas cooktop in our van at all. Loved it so much bought a second one for use in the house. Also I believe the Mary Kathleen township is owned by a farmer so there are always friendly cows roaming around. We have camped there multiple times, up near the swimming pool, and fortunately have never had an issue with ants. So glad you rescued your dogs from the ants!!
I lived in Mount Isa when Mary K was a town and was there when the town closed. Eveything in the town was auctioned off, a big auction was held in town. I have photos from the auction. My friend used to work in the general store (Medley's) and they drove fom the Isa back and forth in the work truck each day. Good to see they now have a sign up showing the town map and how to get to the mine, that wasn't there when I went back in 2016. Merry Christmas guys
Here’s Wishing You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to come. Thank you for the times and memories you have shared with your family and travels. Looking to anymore travels you may have planned for 2024. Regards from my family
Fascinating facts about the town. You need to drop by Woomera if you ever visit SA. Still a small town today but not what it use to be. I wonder if you had thrown the yabbie shells on the ground away from the caravan whether the ants would have followed the smell. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your family! Thanks for sharing your life. You guys are a fantastic family!
We’ve camped at Mary Kathleen a few times, love it. Will have to do corella dam next time we’re passing. Have only ever driven in and looked, been way too busy. I love the drone footage of the mine. Tip, we always carry a container of ant dust.
We camped at a caravan park at Mt Surprise one year , came in late and parked where told, woke next morning with ourselves and the van covered in ants. We discovered the tree that hung over the van a little was a launching pad for ants to rain down anything under it. Took about two weeks to get rid of them. We must have put about 4 or 5 Insect bombs in the van , plus cans of spray 😊😊😊….. I hate ants…😂😂😂 All the best for the Christmas and the new year, thank you for your great content , look forward to seeing you again 2024. All the best with the Charity gig too, hope it goes real well.
I worked at MT ISA mines with blokes that lived and worked at the mine, IT was big news when they closed it down , A couple I know spent a lot of time there this year exploring the area, Merry Christmas and happy New year, Cheers Bevan 🤠❤️🦘🦘🇦🇺

We did see the exit for the mining trail! Noticed it too late but will definitely check it out next time!
Tip for ants…..carry some baby powder and sprinkle around the caravan and ute 😊

Wow that’s so interesting! We’d love if they had even more info on the place, not a lot on the internet!
All buildings from Mary Kathleen were sold to Mt Isa and Cloncurry for the use.
