This should be the first video that appears in RUclips when searching for this pedal. A MUCH better representation of the usage of this type of pedal! Thank you for the great demo!
I found a screming deal on one and was thinking about jumping on it until I watched the first review that came up. After watching this demo, now I'm torn.
I avoided this pedal because every other youtube vid makes it seem crap. Then i saw this . THIS is how the voodoo should be used! I just got one and it's absolutely wonderful. So thanks for the vid!
@@bayer1997I recommend using fuzz by itself, on a clean channel, no overdrive of any kind, it’s it’s own overdrive, stacking any more on top is going to muddy your sound in a bad way.
My thoughts too - playing is in context to what it is good at.... Not just the usual geezer who just knock out the usual 'blooz' BS and twiddled the knobz. Some decent Grebo, garage and Stoner Rock riffage here to show me what it can do well.
This is how you do a pedal demo. Good sound quality, incremental, methodical movement of knobs going through most possible setting combinations using chords and single notes, without all the blather and endless "look at me, mommy" noodling at one setting. A+, Thank you.
Great demo - Way to let the pedal do the talking, unlike a lot of RUclips reviewers. Now I must buy one of these, and follow the smoke to the riff-filled land!
I'm actually looking for a muff style pedal. I'd avoided this pedal thinking it wouldn't be what I wanted since I already had an octave fuzz I really like. I may consider getting one anyway. With the octave off its not exactly a Big Muff, but sounds close. Also, the octave is a bit different than my Angry Fuzz.
The Behringer Super Fuzz seems more popular these days but I switch it out with this one. I’ve modded it for better octave up effect and tone control. Modded because the silk screen on a couple caps is backwards which the parts stuffers followed (like the Joyo Ultimate Drive’s clipping diodes). Much better tone control and octave effect now. Mods are online. Wires between board and footswitch are thin, just be careful.
Octa-Fuzz pedals are very finicky beasts, that being said this is a pretty good representation. The ONE thing I wish he did is play up around the twelfth fret with the volume rolled back on the NECK pickup like how hendrix used the effect ala Purple Haze.
Love the pedal. thanks for playing good lines. Your original tone is great. I rewound that opening 5- 10 seconds to listen to your base-line tone multiple times. 57's-Marshall-V30 Just works!
EVERY pedal demo video should be like this. A) no useless yapping about blah blahblah….B) a good "BEFORE" tone and C) continuous playing while fiddling with the knobs. EXCELLENT JOB MATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great demo. I had a Biyang Fuzz Star, but I stupidly traded it. This one sounds pretty great even though the 'octave up' part with the switch at 'normal' sounded like trash can synthesizer music (not necessarily a bad thing but no real octave up note) then when you scooped the mids with the "octave up" on it sounded awesome! I might have to get one now!
been looking for an inexpensive fuzz for a little doom/stoner metal and no other video really demonstrates this pedal like this one. it was between this and the nasty bear fuzz and this video might have made it win.
Obigrobi666 they really should, I am gonna buy it thanks to your demo vid (in others vids they don't demonstrate all the features of this cheap but powerful fuzz gear). just one thing, is it possible to run the upper octave with no fuzz at all? i mean can you activate JUST the left pedal botton or it's mandatory to press also the right one in order to activate the pedal?
I've had my Voodoo Octave for 5+ years. I love it. Mixing it with your amp's overdrive makes for some really sick sounds. I mostly riff stoner type shit and this is perfect for that. I rarely use the "octave up" setting but if you were going to play some noise rock shit, I could see getting some good use out of it.
Man, I have seen so Many bad reviews of this pedal here on YT. Almost didn’t buy until I came across your review. Way to let the pedal talk. Thank you for this.
I bought one of these and it sounded like goats farting into a trash can. How you managed to make it sound so good is beyond me. Thank you for doing this pedal review, actually touching the knobs, not talking, and sounding so good.
Hey! Not every amp likes fuzz pedals. I got grest results with my Marshall and my Laney. My Engl and my Orange hate fuzz pedals and it sounds just as you described. Just try it with another amp.
@@Obigrobi666 is your Laney tube? i just bought it 2nd hand and had 5 minutes with it on my laney lc15r (all tubes) and it sounded good to my ears, especially with the tone down, more or less like your setting. tried with a tele clone and with a gretsch with humbuckers, loved the sounds on both (but i'm less than a newbie on guitar). i tend to prefer it with tone cranked down and a bit of crunch from the amp itself as i love the fullness on the bass it creates.
The trouble with the JOYO Voodoo Octave (which is a copy of the foXX tone machine / Fulltone Ultimate Octave) is that as far as I know JOYO still haven't got the construction right. I bought one when they first came out and discovered, as several others on the internet had, that several electrolytic capacitors had been inserted the wrong way round and two of the tone filter caps were in the wrong place. I corrected these errors in the first one I had and then, after optimising a simulation in SPICE, performed several other mods. The modified pedal produces a very strong octave fuzz effect all over the guitar fretboard. Then about a month ago I bought a recent issue Voodoo Octave which still had two electrolytic caps the wrong way round (even marked the wrong way on the silkscreen). They had at least fitted better diodes - Schottky diodes - which in this case are a good substitute for the original germanium. The diodes in the old pedal didn't sound good. I also found a further fault that appears in all the circuit diagrams of the foXX pedal. The diode switching on the full wave rectifier that produces the octave flips another electrolytic between being biased the right way round to the wrong way round when the octave switch is on. This is easily fixed by reversing that cap and moving the octave switching to the other diode.
Awsome demo man! I'm excited to have this pedal now. I got it as a gift yesterday and haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'm gonna bother my family after work tonight. 😂
great demo! i recently got this pedal but i believe mine is defective... upon powering it up it makes this annoying squealing sound no matter where i adjust the pots...octave button dosent work either... i contacted the seller about the issue and hopefully ill be able to exchange it...
A copy of the foXX Tone Machine. Only Joyo seem unable get all the electrolytic capacitors the right way round in this circuit. I have two of these (now modified so the caps are the right way round) one bought when they first released and another purchased recently (at a low price) just to check if they had corrected the problem. But no, several electrolytic caps still the wrong way round in the newer pedal. Also two plastic film caps in the two tone filters are switched in position. This would be a great pedal if only they could copy it properly.
Hi, comments section. I owned one of these for almost 2 years; decided I didn't want to keep my massive 20~ pedal pedalboard, sold them all. So far I haven't missed any... Except my dirt. I picked up a pawn-shop DS-1 & I'll be snagging my second one of these. Phenomenal pedal. I have been miffed on selling it every day since I did. You won't regret it. P.S. I like to run it in Normal mode, octave on, @ unity gain with controls around 1 o'clock, straight into my DS-1. Gnarly, man, & I'm not even running humbuckers ;P
It is a great pedal. I don't like the octave, but you can play it without the octave. Both positions of the switch are usefull. In my setup i reduce the input signal before it goes into the fuzz.
Great demo, great pedal, good job in the guitar. No doubt, joyo Is my best, I just Yesterday received my joyo flanger pedal, is just amazing, great effect, great sound i love it.

Best demo I've seen. Impulse bought this last night off of reverb. Listening to you play it, I'm glad I did.
This demo does this pedal justice. It demonstrates how good this pedal sounds.
It's already been said. Great demo. I'm shocked how many people have posted demos of this pedal without hearing what it does.
