Trap is a movie about a needle in a haystack which slowly turns itself into a needle in a display case.
That's a great way to put it
@@luiginastro8831 I’ve bored everyone I know with this description so I’d love everyone to steal it and bore everyone they know too.
@@CJJC How did you manage to bore people in the span of a single sentence? Do you talk really slowly or something?
@ yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
I saw this movie in theatres and on the way out I heard the following;
girl: "Did you like the movie?"
her boyfriend: "I don't want to talk about it."
The most enjoyment I get from Shyamalan's movies is talking about them.
Funny
Hahahaha
Ok?
This really feels like a really bad session of Hitman. The killer keeps blundering around, killing and maiming random people and the cops are too stupid to even catch onto that.
The exact game that came to mind when they talked about his quick change escape from the limo. That’s some Hitman Speedrun, Gameplay manipulation type ish
If the movie had devolved into Josh Hartnett hiding in a bathroom knocking out Cops with a Briefcase for half an hour it would have been a 4* movie at minimum
so very realistic.
like we have dead mans bias, sucessful murders get counted but someone who gets fucked up is just like not that unusual
killers thus are measured by successful kills, but usually the first attempts fail, are blundered etc
Now I want a Hitman movie that, instead of being super grounded and following the plot, is a comedy following him do absolutely insane things but still somehow not get caught and everyone acts like he's some super assassin mastermind.
EDIT: He also has to be played completely straight.
I imagine it like Mr. Magoo but its Hitman. He slips on a tomato on the kitchen floor, which startles another chef, who knocks over a rack of cutlery, stuff flies everywhere which in turn spooks a different chef, who drops his try of food, which hits the hilt of a knife, it flies across the room, nails the head chef, the target in the head. Dead. And the handler goes:"He really is the best there ever was."
Hayley Mills, the older female cop, was the star of the original version of The Parent Trap. This is the weirdest casting pun
Further proof that M. Night does and agrees to almost everything on a whim.
Huge, detrimental choices that were kinda funny in the moment? "Sure, let's do that, it's not like I'm making a movie or anything, hahahah!"
@@KIagerto an extent, I can respect that. People keep giving him money, so might as well just do whatever's funny and see how far you can push it
I kept saying, "ooh, there's Miss Bliss again!"
Yes, i was one of those that watched saved by the bell after school lol
If you wanted to do a wink-nudge cameo, couldn't he have just used her in the hallucinatory mother role? Hayley Mills is 78 years old and we're supposed to believe she's leading the whole investigation?
"your husband is the butcher" has to be the wackest performance ever seen
This was a film disguised as a launching pad for his daughters music and acting career
13:58 i heard (i think in a razzle video) that the reason the budget was so high for Lady in the Water is because he literally BUILT the apartment complex that the movie was set in because he wanted to film in a specific state for no reason. It gets rented out now iirc
That was also mentioned in the Adum and Pals video for Lady in the Water. Granted, it's been a while since they filmed that video, so that's probably why Adum doesn't remember lmao.
It's funny you say you heard that in a razzle video considering that there's literally a YMS video for that movie where Scoot tells Adam about the fact they built the apartment building for real, and that video predates razzle's video by years. In other words, they already know lol.
Is....he at least making money off that building? Or the studio? Lmao that's insane
@@skinnysnorlax1876 last I saw it was torn down and replaced with industrial zones for different companies
It’s because no building like that exists wherever they shot, because everyone would freeze in the colder months. That’s the reason they had to build one, and that’s why it was torn down, because it’s not appropriate to begin with. I’m not sure why just flew everyone to California or Florida wouldn’t be a lest costly option, I suppose taxes where involved, but regardless I don’t know how a tax deduction can compensate for building a full apartment complex? But I suppose it didn’t either way, it would have bombed regardless
Adam's right about the dumb trope of infantilizing killers and robbing them of agency. It even narratively clashes with him being a Death Note genius.
How do they even come to that conclusion? "The killer tortures random people in a basement, he must have mommy issues!" Fucking based on what?!
Trap just feels AI generated

Why are the hallways full and the merch table so busy in the middle of the concert???? Anyone paying such exorbitant ticket prices will only leave their seats if they're about to piss themselves.
The real plot twist of this movie: M. Night has never once been to a concert.
M Night has also never bought merch in person
Depends on the song that was being played at the moment. Guitar solo during most concerts? Bathrooms full and merch tables flooded. Or certain songs that aren't a fan favorite will result in a similar situation. Everyone had the same idea as me during Chinese Democracy at the GNR concert in that most everyone hates that song so merch and bathroom time.
Just not true. Get out more
@@KomicKong That's a fair point. I had free tickets to Paul Simon and when we went to say hi to a friend working at the arena at the start of the concert, the hallways were crickets. I also assumed in this movie the pop star was based on Taylor Swift and those fans are not missing any songs lol. It was just weird in the movie when they panned the audience, it was packed. But the hallways suggested otherwise...
This movie felt like an episode of Dexter if it was conjured up by a hack writer whose never been to a live concert in their life, there was no inner dialogue of the killer, and if Dexter only escaped every dire situation because everyone else was an idiot.
*who's :)
I'm sorry, but that's literally Dexter. A big part of Dexter's comedy is how lucky he is.
Isn't Dexter written by hack writers lmao
Shyamalan would be a much more bearable director if he weren't such a shit-awful writer. Or if he would just let other people write his scripts.
Exactly. Like Alex said, a lot of his films are genuinely really interesting ideas, but he just doesn’t seem to ever want to work with other people
The Police lady should have been his MOM!!!!!!!! like boom plot twist makes the cat and mouse game more intense
That’s actually a really interesting idea
That would genuinely be such a better foundation
Sounds like M. Night twist, alright 🙄
I was thinking to myself that it would've been a good twist if the wife was the real butcher & he was just trying to cover her ass
I thought she totally was. Then she was not.🥲
Josh Hartnett abruptly tackling a SWAT officer near the end of the movie was one of the funniest moments in what is already a hilarious film. It makes me wonder if M Night will ever be able to make a film that’s funny for intended reasons.
This movie wasn't intentionally funny?
@@VultRoos Oh buddy, you do not know M. Night if you think this was intentional.
@@HOTD108_The hilarity comes from the awkwardness. I think the only purposeful hilarious scene i remember from Shyamalan was in the movie the happening, where Mark Wahlberg makes up a story about a potential affair. Since the character was so lame, only thing he could come up with was cough syrup and i think that scene was intentional
M. Night had Signs and I see dead people. That's. It.
He gouged his eyes and he still was given minimal security in his escort. Then he falls near a bike for an awkward amount of time surrounded by cops and somehow didn't get a single person to notice the spoke....
this movie is like watching a twitch streamer play hitman for the first time and doing all the side objectives and distractions at the wrong times but because they have it on the lowest difficulty they still complete the mission anyways
Gold
I think having the weird acting and dialogue works well for the killer but not for regular ass people.
For real. I have never heard an ass person talk or behave like that and I know A LOT of ass people.
14:00
If you remember, the reason why the budget for Lady In The Water was so high is because they built a fucking apartment complex.
So like he unhandcuffs himself inside the van, they get to the police headquarters, open the door and what's his plan then? Does he think they'll just go "Damn, he undid the handcuffs, gotta let him go" and not just shoot him dead as soon as he tries running?
And even then, what is the idea then? Should we be rooting for him turning his next victim into cubes on toothpicks because he's such a wily rascal?
When the doors open, he's gonna do a big kung fu kick
Obviously you didn't understand his character well enough if you can't foresee that he won't even be in the back of the van when they open it up.
He'll escape from the van the same way he escaped from the surrounded limo.
I mean...if the story took place in California, where crime is basically legal, it might happen.

This movie was just a giant commercial for M-night's daughter's music. The plot and everything were created to facilitate that, and that's it. 100% positive. No doubt in my mind. un-rivaled nepotism.

Usually parents who are executives, doctors, lawyers, etc.
If you’re born in middle America to working class parents, you have essentially zero chance no matter how talented you are. The t shirt guy, the cops in the break room, the cops on the roof, the mom of the friend who looked like she was told to try and keep him at a certain place for a certain time etc. You could have had something fun and somewhat clever.
After he leaves with the singer and the movie completely leaves the whole big set of the big premise of the movie it's pure nonsense. How do you write a first half like that and then come up with THAT as a followup.
I think it would have been cool if he thought he was being traped, but the twist is that there is another killer there that he would have to interact with. And the whole movie takes place the entire time there and the concert gets extended into the night time. Maybe more interactions with that one blonde hair singer. Big differences between M. Night's and Yorgos' (at least the ones he's written) "surrealness" in writing is intent
The Lobster and Killing of a Sacred Deer are written the way they are with the intention of commenting on the real world, while M. Night's movies, going as far back as Lady in the Water, feel like they were written by a child
Like, on the surface, the characters in both directors' works kind of talk in the same emotionless, matter of fact manner, but you never get the "oh, he's trying to SAY something by doing this" feeling with M Night
Hell, not even just him. Like they said, Wes Anderson and David Lynch have that same thing about them too and they have a sense of purpose to being delivered like that. With M. Night, everyone often speaks in that odd cadence and there never feels like there is a proper mood for why that is. I agree that the issue is that this film doesn't go dumb enough. For a change, this would have benefited from a wild twist like the daughter being the butcher and the father trying to keep her safe in an act of responsibility or that the whole family was in on it when the star gets kidnapped, ala Texas Chainsaw. Real missed opportunity because as it stands, it's just warmed over leftovers from "Split".
Also appreciate that call about how other directors also have their actors deliver in stilted or wooden ways, but that they feed into the mood as opposed to M. Night, which was always the big difference between him and types like Yogos or Wes or Lynch.
M. Night made the movie bad on purpose so that his daughter's music would be the stand-out best part of it.
That style of pop are the Marvel movies of the music industry. These people could stop making music and there would probably be enough songs to last another century.
Trap is in the Unbreakable universe and Hartnett has the super power of supernaturally good luck, like James Bond but a serial killer (like James Bond)
I'm not kidding when I say Phone Booth is one of my favorite movies ever made, I love the tension and stress of the situation, the main character is locked in a tight space trapped without being able to leave with another intelligent person ready to kill him, it's so awesome. I would love to see more movies related to that, like a hostage situation in which only the hostage knows what's happening, trying to survive and at the same time trying to keep other people unaware of the situation alive, while both the protagonist and antagonist try to outsmart each other... So great. Do you know more movies similar to Phone Booth and Grand Piano? (I didn't watch Grand Piano yet, but I'll), another one that I liked a lot was Disturbia, I like those ones as well.

Don't forget for Lady in the Water, that they built that entire Apartment Complex, and thats a reason why it had such a ridiculous spending budget.
But yeah, the thing with M. Night is some of his movies have a decent to great premise, but he doesn't know how to finalize and make it into something more than a concept that's been nuked in the microwave, but still frozen in places. I loved Split and enjoyed Glass enough and the concepts of Old, but pretty much everything else, but those aside, I really don't think he's really been able to hit the highs of Unbreakable and Sixth Sense again. I'd even say his Shyamalan'isms really started to show in Signs and to a startling degree that so many overlook them in that movie.
But yeah, Trap had, again, a fun premise and concept but didn't do enough with it and it doesn't hit the "so outrageously bad" mark where it'll be razzied &, celebrated formits awfulness...I think in a year's time, if not 4-6 months it'll be forgotten.

When I hear or see Josh Hartnett, I immediately think of The Faculty. Im not even going to look up the year but it's the perfect 1997 movie.
*edit: it was 1998 but 97/98 are basically the same thing. The golden years of culture
Everyone was pulling the stupidest faces throughout this movie. It was insane. That had to be bad directing for _all_ of them to do it.
M Night is just Neil Breen with money at this point. And don't get me wrong, I'm a big simp for The Sixth Sense, it's unironically one of my favorite movies. But he has a Breen-level ego, and nowadays, quality of filmmaking.
I always consider these as bonus sardonicast videos I'm glad you made another one
I hope this is the start of a new series
"you suck and i hate it"
You mean sardonicast?
You're gonna love sardonicast
I love Sardonicast but I really, REALLY miss these edited videos with clips and visual gags. YMS’s golden era of videos like his Amusement review are yearly rewatches for me.
@@Wraiven22 he seems peoccupied with massive projects for now. It's a respectable and entertaining direction. He does amazing work. But yeah it's a totally different vibe. I think he's kinda gotten all he can out of making RUclips poop esque take downs of trash and wants to actually analyze stuff in depth even if it's trash.
Trap is love, Trap is life
I don't get what you're saying Adum; all the cooolest kids around say "That's crispy" 😎
In an era of unoriginal slop, this movie stands out. Cheesy or not, I’d rather have this than yet another reboot or “IP-universe” movie.
I'll give you that. The fact that it wasn't a remake/reboot, comic book or anything star wars related is the only reason I clicked on it
"Yeah, it sucks, but at least it's not Marvel" is being used as an unironic defense now. I'm so proud of this community.
tbf, original slop is wayyy better than SlopVerse slop
i had a lot of fun with this movie but it would be ruined if James McAvoy showed up at the end or smth
Just because it isn't Disney, doesn't mean it *has* to be good
I was just glad to see a movie with real locations and not green screen voids.
Josh Hartnett: Virgin Suicides, Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down...
15:00 *In a Mr. Beast/other clickbait channel voice*: We gave M. Night Shyamalan one BILLION dollars to make whatever movie he wanted, and THIS is what he came up with!
I want a “crispy” parody of Tyler’s “sticky” lol
1:00 Law Abiding Citizen hive rise up!
I love that last scene where they finally managed to capture Cooper, the one that everyone knows is an extremely violent and dangerous serial killer, and they just leave him COMPLETELY UNSUPERVISED in the back of this "high security" prison transport. It perfectly sums up the borderline offensive laziness in the writing.
I feel like it was just an hour and forty-five minute promo concert for his daughter lol
I misread your comment as "porno concert", lmao 🤣
I thought that people becoming catatonic like the girl he pushed down the stairs would come back later. Apparently, she just took a lot of drugs.
The only way this type of movie can work is if the cause and effect is coherent. It doesn't work when the character is just lucky with everything
One thing i wanted to point out was that lady raven cried more than his wife, like holy shit why are actors so bad at *just crying*, i don't care how much your lip quivers, if theres no water it's so obviously fake! In the words of Katya "Give me the big juicies!!"
