  • Following an extended absence the Ford Ranger has returned for the 2019 model year, bringing with it a range of questions. Can real humans fit in the back seats? Is the cargo box ready for serious hauling? Is the Ranger’s standard turbocharged 4-cylinder engine a worthy mill for towing? How does the 2019 Ranger fare off-road? Join Kelley Blue Book’s Micah Muzio as he digs up the answers in our complete 2019 Ford Ranger review and road test.

    For those who don't know, this Ranger was designed and engineered in Australia. While not built here, its arguably the most Australian car being sold worldwide. They're the second best selling vehicle here too and the updated look is very nice. We get the new Duratorq turbo diesel i4 engine with the 10 speed auto. Great Ute which im sure the North American market will love. Oh and we also have the Raptor here!

    • @project_calais4977
      @project_calais4977 5 лет назад

      @guy proulx The Toyota HiLux Ute, which is a smaller than both the Tacoma and Tundra. They're built on a reputation of being tough and reliable which is true, but they're so vanilla in design and features. That doesn't stop nearly 50,000 being sold each year though. Might not sound like a lot but its yet to beat our own home grown Commodore which once sold 94,000 cars in Australia alone back in 1998.

    • @project_calais4977
      @project_calais4977 5 лет назад +3

      @guy proulx The Commodore and Falcon were both cars produced in Australia. They were the best selling cars here for decades until about 8 years ago. Sales of both models dropped to less than a quarter of their original numbers causing both brands to cease production in Australia in 2016 and 2017 respectfully. The Commodore in its last year in production (2017) sold 23,500 cars and the Falcon (2016) sold only 6,500 cars. Compare this to 2007 the Commodore sold about 57,000 cars and the Falcon 47,500 cars.
      Ford is doing alright in Australia as the Ranger sells about 42,000 units per year which is about half of all Ford sales in the country. The Mustang is also popular at nearly 10,000 sales per year since it was brought here. The Falcon is no longer in production, as well as the Australian built Ford Territory SUV.
      As for Holden the same goes that a Ute/truck is their best selling. The Colorado ute sells about 23,000 units per year. The Commodore lives on as an imported FWD and AWD Hatch and Wagon. As an owner of a Commodore model (I have the Luxury Calais model) I am apart of the group of fans who dislike the decision to keep the name on the imported car which is nothing like the Commodore it replaces.

    One of my favorite things about the new ranger is (compared to other newer trucks) there are still manual parts like the rear window and the tailgate. All the pointless technology is not needed. Now I don’t mean the 4wd or computer screen, I mean stuff like a power tailgate or power rear window. That’s just more complicated and unneeded tech. I prefer more hands on accessories. The bed (as well as many other spots) is where the Ridgeline beats all other mid-size trucks. No wheel wells gives you much more room.

    The Ford Ranger is one of the most popular and commonly used utes here in New Zealand and Australia.
    It's right up there with the Toyota Hilux and Holden Rodeo.

    I would honesty estimate that half of consumer car buyers need no more than this truck.

      No, 99.99% of the market WANTS something that can do more, but won’t ever utilize the capability.
      That’s America’s truck market. Road princesses that’ll never get a hitch attached.

      The OP's comment should have the majority of the thumbs up for this video. There is a stark contrast between what a consumer actually needs and what they think they want. Just like we Americans put too much on our plates at the buffet, so too do we gorge ourselves on other things we don't actually need. But that seems to be the human condition...more is better.

    Sounds like a good truck. Vinyl flooring is what I want but I could get that in my Jeep renegade couldn’t I? I want something I could transport my dogs in and I hate dog hair all over the place. Putting them in the truck bed will work. But then I go to Walmart and Sams club a lot. Jeep renegade fits the need there. As well as easy parking small compact vehicles I have come to love! I will probably test drive this ranger. My dad had a red 2002 ranger. Great solid small truck.

    Is it really against all things hoped to make a turbo diesel ranger? Also, can we get a compact truck from someone?

    you can't "choose" the bed layout, only comes one way. 6ft on Supercab, 5ft on Crewcab.

    I noticed that you reviewed both the crew and extended cab trim levels. However, I would have liked for you to compare the new extended cab versus the old extended cab (XLT model) Ranger. I'm interested in if there has been more leg room added since one's a midsize truck and the other is a compact pickup.

    • @sergeantwolf8018
      @sergeantwolf8018 4 года назад

      I've seen reviews that compare that. The midsize has a ton more room then the compact. Midsize has up to 3 seats. The old ranger had one sideways seat

    if this was available when I bought my 2015 f150 4x4 with 2.7l ecoboost, I would have gotten the ranger... but, then I wouldn't have gotten the 2.7l (which is awesome!). if the 2.7 was offered in the ranger, I think it would set a new standard.

    The urban F-150 is what the Ranger is. Desperately needs the 3.2L Diesel offered overseas. The last generation Ranger was a beast. My father owned one 15 years and a friend owned his 17 years... built Ford tough.

    Nice review! Too bad it’s too cramped inside.
    I’ll keep my 2017 Ridgeline, which handles better, has much more advanced AWD system, and can carry more weight.
    Maybe when we get a true redesigned Ranger I’ll look at it. But actually the new Gladiator might be my next.
