    For those who don't know, this Ranger was designed and engineered in Australia. While not built here, its arguably the most Australian car being sold worldwide. They're the second best selling vehicle here too and the updated look is very nice. We get the new Duratorq turbo diesel i4 engine with the 10 speed auto. Great Ute which im sure the North American market will love. Oh and we also have the Raptor here!

    • @project_calais4977
      @project_calais4977 6 лет назад

      @guy proulx The Toyota HiLux Ute, which is a smaller than both the Tacoma and Tundra. They're built on a reputation of being tough and reliable which is true, but they're so vanilla in design and features. That doesn't stop nearly 50,000 being sold each year though. Might not sound like a lot but its yet to beat our own home grown Commodore which once sold 94,000 cars in Australia alone back in 1998.

    • @project_calais4977
      @project_calais4977 6 лет назад +3

      @guy proulx The Commodore and Falcon were both cars produced in Australia. They were the best selling cars here for decades until about 8 years ago. Sales of both models dropped to less than a quarter of their original numbers causing both brands to cease production in Australia in 2016 and 2017 respectfully. The Commodore in its last year in production (2017) sold 23,500 cars and the Falcon (2016) sold only 6,500 cars. Compare this to 2007 the Commodore sold about 57,000 cars and the Falcon 47,500 cars.
      Ford is doing alright in Australia as the Ranger sells about 42,000 units per year which is about half of all Ford sales in the country. The Mustang is also popular at nearly 10,000 sales per year since it was brought here. The Falcon is no longer in production, as well as the Australian built Ford Territory SUV.
      As for Holden the same goes that a Ute/truck is their best selling. The Colorado ute sells about 23,000 units per year. The Commodore lives on as an imported FWD and AWD Hatch and Wagon. As an owner of a Commodore model (I have the Luxury Calais model) I am apart of the group of fans who dislike the decision to keep the name on the imported car which is nothing like the Commodore it replaces.

    For everybody saying, “it’s overpriced”, I’m going to show how the price of the ranger is reasonable by comparing prices with other brands.
    Since the frontier & Colorado/Canyon Base models are manuals, I have changed it to where it’s specs are around the same price (ex. Only automatic transmissions and 4 cylinder engines). Only low end trim levels with 2wd only will be compared.
    For the frontier king cab (extended) S (I4/5SA) $23,060 (NISSAN WEBSITE)
    Toyota Tacoma SR Access Cab(extended cab)(I4/6SA) $25,550 (TOYOTA WEBSITE)
    Chevy Colorado extended cab WT (I4/6SA) $23,845 (CHEVY WEBSITE)
    Ford Ranger XL extended cab (TI4/10SA) $24,300 (FORD WEBSITE)

    ford’s engine has 270hp/310torque
    Nissan’s engine has 152hp/171 torque

      @@Shakerhood69 The cheapest (MSRP) Ranger starts at $24,300, the cheapest Tacoma starts at $25,550. The Most expensive Ranger starts at $36,210, the most expensive Tacoma starts at $45,365. Smaller in what category? Engine? Sure, where cylinders are concerned, but the Ranger's engine boasts greater torque than the Tacoma's most powerful engine. Both the Ranger and Tacoma have 5' and 6' bed options, so Ranger isn't smaller in bed size either. The number one complaint I hear about the Tacoma is that there is no headroom if you are 6'0" or taller, this despite practically sitting on the floor already. By the looks of it, Ranger has more headroom and also 'normal' truck seats as well. As far as sales are concerned, Ford already has stated that they have over 300,000 hand-raisers for the Ford Ranger and that demand is so strong that they are going into overtime at the factory the Ranger is being built at (meaning they will now be working a 6-day week instead of a 5-day week). Now, not every one of those 300,000 will actually buy a Ranger, but as I said, the year has barely started yet and already there is a huge demand. I do, however, foresee the Ranger selling over 300,000 this year and surpassing Tacoma. If nothing else, Ford's cult-like following will ensure high sales. xD Time will tell. I also look forward to seeing how the Gladiator sells!

      @Dave You are looking at base prices, but similarly equipped have the Ranger more expensive. Smaller in exterior dimensions, and smaller fuel tank. The Ranger does have a 6 foot bed but only in the extended cab models whereas the Tacoma offers the 6 foot bed in both extended and double cab models. The headroom issues you hear about are in models with a sunroof, if you have that issue buy one without one or move up to a full size truck. Go back and read the article about the factory working overtime and you will see they only sold 1200 Rangers for the month of January, something doesn't add up as you need to sell 25,000 a month to get to 300K. I have nothing against the Ranger and think its going to sell well, in fact I think it will leapfrog right past the Colorado and settle comfortably in the number 2 spot.

    • @dave3682
      @dave3682 5 лет назад +2

      @@Shakerhood69 They sold 1,200 off the lot (so not counting pre-orders) in the first 2 weeks, so half a month. (Source - www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2019/01/31/ford-ranger-demand-uaw-overtime/2732446002/ ) It will be interesting, perhaps 300k is a stretch, but I think they can top 200,000. Like I said, time will tell. Curious, what makes the sunroof version of the Tacoma lower? Do you know exactly by how much lower? Going back to price, that depends on what you consider similarly equipped. Last I heard the best-selling Tacoma was their TRD Off-Road version (I might be mistaken) which starts at $33,500 MSRP. If you want an off-road capable Ranger you can get a Ford Ranger XL with FX4 for $33,080 MSRP. Like you, I have no beef against either vehicle, I'm just going off of what I'm reading/seeing.
