I test drove the Tacoma and just 2 days ago, I drove this new Ranger and I would take the Ranger in a heartbeat. I really wanted a Tacoma for its known build quality and retained value but it's just not as good as everyone thinks. I kept hitting my head on the ceiling and it's weird to sit on the floor while doing it. The engine is on the noisy side when merging into highway traffic and the transmission was reluctant to downshift until you really got into the pedal. The rear seat movements of flipping, folding and headrest removal is BS. The Tacoma is a nice truck but it's nowhere as good as it should be. The Ranger was very eager to move and had a very comfortable ride and interior. Plenty of headroom and elbow space. The engine and transmission are supremely calibrated and I just couldn't get over how quick the ranger picked up speed without the need to downshift much at all. The Ranger will hold my quad and some fuel cans were as the Tacoma would be maxed out. I am just not going to give up a great engine/transmission pkg, ride quality, comfort and interior ergonomics for the quality and resale value of a Tacoma.
Pretty much my take on this too. I test drove all of them and the toyota was the worst of the bunch. The Frontier was comfortable and had plenty of get up and go with the V6 but lacking in everything else. The GM twins are nice. I really didn't care for the dash layout but the rest was pretty good. The Ranger was the last I checked out and to me is the best of the bunch. Going to wait a bit until the 2020 model year though for some incentives to come along. @@BrosFOURRSpeed No that's not true. The back seat has allot more room. Cabin height is superior on the Ranger. Plus the seats in the front are best in class. By far. I've driven both and know. Plus Ranger has more adjustment to seat with height adjustment. In the toy you sit lower to the floor/legs straight out. Not very comfy for ALLOT of people. Plus no height adjustment on the Tacoma which exacerbates the problem. Interior wise, The ranger probably has the best seats in class. Followed by the Colorado with the Tacoma coming in dead last. But that lower cabin is a toyota trademark. Its been like that for decades with Toyota. If you want room, its the worst choice. Especially if your a tall person.
All the early reports I'm hearing is around 21 MPG's. It does not matter if you drive allot of Hwy either. Not thinking this motor will offer much more then the VVT V6 GM offers. Except maybe a little more lower end torque. But throttle response is almost the same. Diesel would should have been also offered as an option. You can only do so much out a gas motor/truck for MPG's. Ecoboost will suck gas when under boost.
Good looking truck. A lot of reviews saying they're only getting 20-21mpg highway. Not good. Storage in the back is the worst of the trucks I looked at too. Missing some options you get on GM and Toyota. Ford had a few years selling this truck in other countries to get it right before bringing it here. I think they might have rushed it. Still some work to do for the money they're asking.
Any car besides a super car can be daily driven, if that's what you're asking. I mean, hell if you wanted to you could daily drive a super car, or a classic car, or anything that has four wheels and a seat. As long as it gets you where you need to go then I'd say yes it's an every day driver, it's not like the ranger is a show car
Good coverage of the basics of the truck! No power slider? 4 cyl seems to not go with a top level mid size truck. I will wait to see if the Rap comes, but will still check this out when I get some time. Ranger will generate interest, then buys when you factor the standard 8-10k off msrp 😂
I'm pretty sure I saw the numbers tested on the truck and it was right with the quickest truck in it's class. I don't think performance will be an issue for it
Im probably one of the first to buy one of these...not happy with the one I bought the brakes had a bad "shimmy" when you applied the brakes. one or more (not given the best info) rotors had to be turned/trued. Most of the shimmy gone, but I still feel some. At take off you can feel a "shudder", vibration (whatever), but it balances out after you get going. The back seat backrest wont latch so it flops around some when you apply the brakes. The seats are embarrassing, but I work at a plant that manufactures seats for the automotive industry so I am picky. These seats, nor most I have seen in videos and pictures would not make it out of our plant. The foam doesnt fill out the leather well, at work we tried to massage it into place but it is still baggy, and wrinkled looking. I dont really use lane departure, I find it annoying, but compared to my last truck it doesnt alert you much. Very slight notice in the steering wheel. My last truck you could feel it in the wheel, and the seat would rumble. on the positive side, it looks awesome! For a small truck it rides well, and I am coming out of full sized pick ups, so that is saying a lot. Handles very well, and that little 4 banger will pick the truck up and move it quick. For the price I think they could have done more inside. Maybe more soft touch on the doors? Aside from that and the seats I love the interior of my Lariat. The adaptive cruise control rocks. I use cruise control a lot, and get annoyed when I have to come out of it for traffic. This thing takes care of that. Even switched lanes to much slower traffic to see what it would do. It keeps distance, and will slow you down quickly lol. I should note here that I did drive 2 new Rangers. the first one was an XLT, and had none of the problems listed above. The seats were cloth and had good fit. I also drove everything else in its class because I wanted to get out of full sized pick ups. In my opinion, nothing compared to the Ranger (well, at least the first Ranger I drove lol)
I've owned both from new.. Ford F-150 52k and had to install a catch can and have to drain it frequently.. Bad pinion bearings in rearend 1k.. replace the wheel bearings front and back.. all brake rotors.. both front wheel lockers.. 2 Piece drive shaft.. still have something grinding like a wheel bearing noise with vibration so I'm waiting for the transfer case or transmission to fail.. 122k on it.. Never tow or haul heavy, just a Motorcycle and a ATV.. Toyota has my vote.. Had a 2004 for 200k miles worry free.. Toyota
Gotta love the morons bagging on the $45K price tag. This is a fully loaded Ranger. Go price some new 4x4s and short of a completely outdated Nissan Frontier; this truck competes on price while being far more advanced than the Tacoma and even the Colorado. The price is reasonable and a basic 4x4 can be configured in the mid $30s - not bad at all.
But but but...oh wait your right. It's the fully loaded Ranger. I priced one that is not fully loaded came under 33k with some nice things on it still.
But where I live it gets cold and I will need my truck to start in the morning... Fords definitely don't satisfy that category. Toyotas do. $45K is a lot for a mini truck that won't last seven years down the road.
Had 3 rangers over the years, went to an f150 when they quit making them. But, then decided I did not want or need a full size truck so made the switch to a Tacoma. Sorry Ford, stopped to see the new Ranger yesterday, aside from the better tech, I find all the center console buttons in the way, I'm positive they would get damaged easily under normal use, just my opinion, keep in mind I love Ford vehicles, just not too crazy about this one.
Bros FOURR Speed I did just look it up, hence why I gave you the numbers. 1860 lbs is for the lower trim, 2wd, Supercab, that weights 4,190 lbs. Every pound you add reduces payload, and it has only one gvwr. See gvwr stands for gross vehicle weight rating, or the maximum amount of TOTAL weight of the truck. If a truck has a gvwr of 6,050 lbs and weighs 4,450 lbs, then it has a maximum possible payload of 1,600 lbs.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Ford will probably want at least 50K for it though. And the ZR1 is already more capable then the full size raptor with its front and back lockers. As it is, the full size raptor at 80K will blow its air bags trying to keep up with the ZR2 and that ain't no lie. My dealer offered to sell me loaded ZR2 for 41K. I can't see Ford competing with that. Hell even the Lariat sitting at 45K is going to be a very hard sell pretty soon. Sure right now you have some pent up demand but I'm already seeing 2K dollar discounts for the lariat and that is not a good sign on a brand new model. The price points are whats going to hurt Ranger sales more then anything else moving forward. People are regularly buying nicely equipped Colorados for around 35K or less with leather etc.. loaded. Suddenly Ford expects buyers to pay 45K for higher trims and 40K for XLT's that don't even have leather or a upgraded stereo. I see summer rebates on the horizon.
Well... new for the US market anyway. And you might want to tone down that 'most fuel efficient in its class' statement. Ford just retracted it's mpg rating, and several vids on here are showing this truck to only get ALMOST 21 mpg, lol.
I would like to have the half inch increase of ground clearance that the Ranger has over the Colorado Z71 but then I already know that I can get a Z71 for 10K less than they are showing here for the Ford. When I see that the Colorado has better acceleration and comparable gas mileage, sorry but I think Ford blew it at this price, for what they are offering here.
I like the idea, but I really don't want a cartruck. I have owned 2 Rangers, a 99 XLT Off road and a 2004 Edge. They didn't really look like a car in front. Come on guys, TRUCK IT UP!
@@J_M3444 I intend to drive one. I am really curious as to how it does in the 78 mph area as it has been my experience that tiny motors always lose it somewhere and usually at the higher speeds. I’m not sure how they only got 20? My mom gets 22 with her f150. Its a twin scroll turbo so no matter what speed you’re doing even high end it will just move these motors are a true work of art

I want a new Ranger, but I want mine to basically be custom built, because the stealerships don't have it in either the color I want or with the options and color I want...
bypass the touch screen and just use voice commands for nav, radio, and temp. Also it is built with android auto and apple car play.
Does it have more room on the inside compared to the Tacoma?
It seems very similar
Especially if your a tall person.
first time watching your video.. great work!
I like the styling of the Ranger. It's not too big or too small. I hope they bring the Raptor version here.
Can you imagine the price tag on a Ranger Raptor, would probably be 60k...
@@Shakerhood69 And now the ranger raptor is a thing… for I believe 60k haha.
A Lariat with a manual rear window slider? Are you serious?
Water Walker thought the same thing. Lol
No sport mode? No eco mode?
All the early reports I'm hearing is around 21 MPG's. It does not matter if you drive allot of Hwy either. Not thinking this motor will offer much more then the VVT V6 GM offers. Except maybe a little more lower end torque. But throttle response is almost the same. Diesel would should have been also offered as an option. You can only do so much out a gas motor/truck for MPG's. Ecoboost will suck gas when under boost.
Nice review ;).Was that all in 4x2 and did you use traction control with the rain ?
I just had it in normal 4x2 while driving. All driving aids were on
Thank you 🙏🏻
Good looking truck.
I’ll test drive one,but it would take alot of doin to get me to buy one.
All these people complaining about the price are too broke to buy one either way!
Arguing declining value for money benefits all consumers
So so so so SOOOOOOO glad I got my 2019 Ranger Lariat instead of the F150 I initially went for!
45k? talk about confidence
Trd pro, zr2 range
Eric Gonzalez this is the fully loaded version
Very nice review. Thanks!
Anyone know if this could be a very day driver?
Any car besides a super car can be daily driven, if that's what you're asking. I mean, hell if you wanted to you could daily drive a super car, or a classic car, or anything that has four wheels and a seat. As long as it gets you where you need to go then I'd say yes it's an every day driver, it's not like the ranger is a show car
Gets mid 20s mpg why not
Good coverage of the basics of the truck!
I don't think performance will be an issue for it
Im probably one of the first to buy one of these...not happy with the one I bought
the brakes had a bad "shimmy" when you applied the brakes. one or more (not given the best info) rotors had to be turned/trued.
In my opinion, nothing compared to the Ranger (well, at least the first Ranger I drove lol)
update...all has been fixed, no problems now
Huh and I was worried about the 4 cylinder. Nice review. I'm gonna be getting one in August.
@Honest Fellow Yes, and love it. Very nice.
Tune it! Lol
Put it in sport mode
Seen it in person today...to bubbly looking. I'll wait for the ranger raptor or a trd pro
you said "definitely" 47 times in this review.
Don't forget he hasn't graduated high school yet.
Toyota
I'm driving it now it very interesting and strong
Great review, thanks
Gotta love the morons bagging on the $45K price tag. This is a fully loaded Ranger. Go price some new 4x4s and short of a completely outdated Nissan Frontier; this truck competes on price while being far more advanced than the Tacoma and even the Colorado. The price is reasonable and a basic 4x4 can be configured in the mid $30s - not bad at all.
exactly right..a guy with a brain i see...lol
i agree..mine is loaded, and have no complaints on price, especially compared to other "mid sized" trucks out there
But but but...oh wait your right. It's the fully loaded Ranger. I priced one that is not fully loaded came under 33k with some nice things on it still.
It's a 4 cylinder non full sized truck.
But where I live it gets cold and I will need my truck to start in the morning... Fords definitely don't satisfy that category. Toyotas do. $45K is a lot for a mini truck that won't last seven years down the road.
The global Ford Ranger is pretty much built in Thailand.
That’s cool!
yeah but whens ford going to bring the ranger raptor here.... oh wait they said theyre not 😢
Had 3 rangers over the years, went to an f150 when they quit making them.
Ok, it’s sweet looking. BUT, why the hell would you pay that price for a ranger when you can get a full size for that price. I don’t get it.
why the fuck buy a full sized truck if it dont fit in the garage...duh, I guess go buy a house that fits the truck
that is my dream car
Nice option for sure!
This truck does not have a payload of 1,860 lbs... gvwr is 6,050 lbs and it weights nearly 4,500.
You can look it up, it's around 1800lbs, the bed can only carry so much.
For a 2019 a better display would be better it’s the same display is a 2014 Ford Fusion titanium
Little truck big price tag. No thanks.
Glad to see they brought it back just have it not sell and be discontinued in 2-3 more years.
they sell as soon as they hit the lot!
@hithered7 , Sewermonkey69 has to have a man's truck with a V8
@@buster612003 up to 6 week wait time and even longer in some cases back ordered big time
How does this compare with the tacoma?
Dave Woodward Very similar. I think this is a bit better on road with more power, but the Tacoma has better off road capabilities
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Well being they don't offer a higher end offroader they don't have anything like the Pro or GM's ZR 2 yet.
HiPlains1 Yeah hopefully they unveil the Raptor version soon!
With these regular Rangers costing over 40k as it is, the Raptor version will probably be well over 50k, the Ranger looks less appealing every day.
A v6 and a platinum like package would be better.
Well... new for the US market anyway.
Come on guys, TRUCK IT UP!
i wouldn't mind a simple tachometer for that price.
Off road suspension is actually firmer not softer
In the Tacoma the suspension is softer in the Off Road, not sure about the Ranger though.
45k and no CD player and no round audio jack. But it is good looking
Not many vehicles left with a CD player. Ancient technology.
“I have a ton of leg room” come on man
It's right on par with trucks in it's class. My legs were comfortable
Bros FOURR Speed. Ok. I like your reviews. Especially the truck ones
12:00 ford mustang in blue looks vnice
I like the new ranger but I'll stick with my 2010 ranger 👌
Looks like the same size motor that is in my vacuum cleaner. It cost $129.
John Strand clearly you’ve never driven an eco boost. You might want to first before you compare it to a vacuum I promise
@@J_M3444 I intend to drive one. I am really curious as to how it does in the 78 mph area as it has been my experience that tiny motors always lose it somewhere and usually at the higher speeds.
I'm not impressed with the actual tested mpg of 20mpg as it is not that far from my old 2.9 and 4.0 Rangers and they cost less than half of this price.
I’m not sure how they only got 20? My mom gets 22 with her f150. Its a twin scroll turbo so no matter what speed you’re doing even high end it will just move these motors are a true work of art
i have one of these trucks, this lil motor creates a quick lil truck. it does top out quick, but getting there is fun
@@buster612003 Thanks! You are the first one that I have heard mention this. Have you had a chance to run it around 79 mph on the highway for any distance?
