    One thing I’ve learned being a young bow hunter is not only can you really burn out a stand but you can really burn out yourself hunting 4-5-6 times a week

      Pretty soon you guys will be hunting them as their moms drop them. 🤣
      I kid. I'm secretly just jealous you guys get to start hunting so early. In PA the season starts 2 weeks early for certain areas around Pittsburgh and Philly. If I could afford 10 acres there I totally would just to start hunting early.

    You preach not hunting every day available, and that well and good if you have your own property. But us public land hunters are dealing with people potentially in the woods every day burning it out, so waiting doesn’t seem make much sense for me. I run and gun with a saddle anyways, no set stands. Love the informative videos!

      Hi Benjamin! I hunt the same way on public land...have taken roughly 30 bucks in 3 states on public land that way over the years 👍 But, whether in MI, OH or PA (will hint MI and PA again this year), I hunt where other hunters are not. Haven't missed hunting public land since I first began hunting in 1986. That's largely where most of my hunting strategies on this channel have been born.

    Here in the pnw we don't have acorns and a lot of other foods to target deer movement on food sources. A lot of thick underbrush and crowded timber. Typically our deer seem to brouse thru the same areas as they bed, unless there's adjacent crops which are less prevelant around the public areas.

    Food is everywhere right now. The deer sometimes feed and bed right in the agricultural fields. Bucks here in Kentucky were in velvet till mid-September last per trail cams. I am not much on picking green tomatoes. Bucks, velvet or not, were in daytime patterns thru August until squirrel and dove seasons came in. A few bucks left. Others stayed and went nocturnal till late October, early November. Also got photos of several mature bonus bucks cruising during that time. If I did no scouting at all, and only depended on trail cam monitoring, the hottest action for bow hunting last year, started the last week of October as scrapes/rubs started popping up. We have an early muzzleloader weekend in mid October, but in my hunting circle of friends, rarely do any of us tag a big buck that early. The biggest bucks started showing up daytime, per trail cams, around the 7th of November and then on thru the rut. Just like fishing, weather makes a difference in their activity, but the pre-rut and rut are also a huge factor.

    This year is going to be interesting with 150 acres being timbered around us and in areas of private property where we have agreement to hunt at. Have seen some buck but many have cull antlers. This can come happen for a variety of reasons. Whether it's buck or doe genetics, injuries, or poor growth from doe caused by winter. This leads me to focus on cull buck and take a few doe or look for a nice buck. This fall will be interesting to say the least. Hope everyone has a nice hunting season and remember to enjoy the fall before the snow/ice starts coming down.

      Jeff is wrong again!!! lol Cow's ex: beef fat mixes great with ground venison and makes great burgers. So they do mix well. lol I am not sure about the northeast, but here in the southeast " here in Florida " deer seem to be as spooked by cows as bad as coyotes or prey animal. I would love to see other hunters off the TV try and hunt Florida like they do on tv. Jeff on the other hand would be envied in Florida too because his hunting strategies are universal and would work anywhere.

    • @oldben1800

      @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Thnx for the reply, yes the woods and the pasture is completely separated by fencing so cows are not in wooded areas at all. I won't hunt in rain again. Last year I lost a nice 7pt. It hopped my neighbors fence. I heard him thrashing and figured he'd be there waiting while I got permission. Come back he was gone. It was pouring.. I lost the blood in the dark. Searched till 1am. Was back out at sunrise. Found one drop under a leaf then nothing. No rain, no permission for a hit buck. Learned my lesson on both. Almost quit hunting after that. A friend talked me into to going back out. Same building, same time, same trail. An 8pt stepped out. I was almost afraid to pull trigger. He didn't cross fence, and went about 50yds. No thanks, I'll wait for the right day.

  • @zzz7zzz9
    @zzz7zzz9 3 года назад

    This year has been a mess. Wednesday was the season opener for bow. It was also my first day of the year driving off the pavement. And it wasn't to hunt even, but to finally get my first cam put out. We have bad fires every year, but this year was by far the worst ever. So no cams got put out in the spring, not one walk through areas was possible, zero scouting, zero prep-work. Have a 10 day hunting trip coming up next week, and still unsure of where we are even going. Several of my areas were hit with fires, and were very close. So many areas and roads are closed until mid-october.
    Such a weird feeling, being totally in the dark for the season-opener. Areas could now be holding more game, pushed in from fires. Or, could be vacant of deer, pushed out from fires. It really feels like starting all over.

      That’s ruff , I’ve been in the smoker all summer myself. If you have onx or a plat book go drive around and look for areas then go hunt. Years ago our property got burnt and we drove around and had success! The next yr and 10 forward was awesome hunting the fire area. Plenty of new food and viewing yards went up 10 x . This could be a yr you get a PB. Find the food . Stalk and ground hunt , in and out keep it as low stress on your self and deer. Keep me posted. I’ve been dealing with regulations and wolves! I moved 45 miles away and bam! Mega bucks

    Is it better not to have Big bucks on your property at this time of year? Like you said all those people who have big bucks on camera constantly during August and first of September are going to be disappointed when Deer season gets here. Does that mean that the less big bucks you get the better success you'll in seeing or encountering a big buck? I mean again they might be there but not showing up on camera.
