I gotta say that patience was never my strong suit but as I’ve aged, patience is now a part of my strategy! Weather patterns are critical to me. I hunt my own land and even though archery begins Oct 1, I’ll wait and stay out of the woods until late October after a cold front. A secondary reason I wait until later is that I butcher my own deer and don’t have a walk in cooler. So if it’s not going to be very cool, I wait. You might say that I’m just a meat hunter, maybe, but I’ve also got many hanging on the wall of honor! Eating a left over tag has never been as good as eating backstrap

I've found success hunting less than 100yds into the farm during September. Get to scratch the itch of being out in the woods but have little impact at all on the farm, and have a solid opportunity to bag a few early season does.!

I was too patient and conservative last season. Trail cam revealed my "target buck" several times in my food plot just in front of my blind. Neighbor guy 1/2mile away got him in rifle season.

One overlooked strategy is the opposite of what many hunters will say. And that saying is you can’t kill them sitting in the couch. Nothing could be farthest from the truth. Sitting on the couch, watching the weather forecast and expected wind direction is exactly how you kill them. Quality over quantity will bring success. Still have to hunt smart, but doing your couch work really pays off.

I've listened to your tips on hunting small 4 to 8 acre land, I've scouted it all completely. Acorns, persimmons, creek, etc. They have plenty of food. Last year I Hunted by the Moon but most importantly the WEATHER and had a lot of success last season hunting. I also got to encounter the biggest buck of my life but couldn't get a shot on him, I wanted to give up hunting after that in all honesty but I've done some adjustments for this season and have a good feeling I'll put a big one on the ground this season.

We pulled 15 does one year on nuisance tags there were 8-9 people hunting.
The difference didn’t hit that year but every year since man oh man did we see an increase in bucks and have they grown. BUT we have to pull a doe or so for every buck every other year.

Ahhhhhh....yawn...stretch....scratch.....been raining for a week down here in the blackbelt....turnips and daikons going crazy...young bucks and does filling the new bedding....i love it when a plan comes together ! I expect the deer to wipe out the brassicas...someone forgot to tell our deer not to eat the turnips til it frost on them here....so im hoping they expose some dirt for me to overseed some rye late in october for a little more food choice/diversity..hoping for nice rye plots they kept mowed last year with some leftover brassicas scatterd thru it..otherwise we gonna be eating alot of turnips this year !

Private..I’m holding off unless it’s a small parcel and I know there are neighbors that are hardcore hunters..then I’m still only sitting the pm..
Public..got to go ahead and hit ‘em hard but still prefer evenings
I learned a lesson from my biggest harvest..I saw him one evening by chance as I drove to my evening spot..I hunted him 13 out of 14 days.there were multiple hunters in there every day so I had to push hard.I’d be climbing down and see other flashlights across the way..Serious pressure.Anyways..I saw him 2 more times, one evening out of bow range and one evening out of muzz range..another hunter went to his truck early and spooked the buck with his headlights..he ran a couple hundred yards and spun around watching him. That buck disappeared for 5 days all together and when he came back he switched to mornings.i finally got him that second morning he came
    Back.on day 14..
So..great advice as always..think of the situation

Jeff I doubt you will read this but if you do could you do a video about multi use land. I will hopefully get some land in the next few years and would love to manage some of the land for dove hunting. Hoping to get 20-60 acres. Curious how dove hunting in September would affect the deer hunting in October through December.

Hey Jeff, quick question. If I'm following the lime recommendations of the soil sample on a new plot with a decent starting pH of 6.0, would using PlotStart really have any impact and be worth it? It's a new, small plot with minimal sun, in an area with very little ag close by, so I want to maximize performance. Thanks!
