    I met David Blanton at a hunting show in Richmond years ago, we talked about deer hunting like we have known each other for years. Hell of a nice guy!

    David Blanton in my opinion is one of the greatest examples of a Christian sportsman! I’ve watched his hunts and instructional videos over the last 35 years. Bill Jordan and Realtree Outdoors would not be what it is without David. All those guys seem like such a great bunch. Not once has David had the arrogance that others portray on their shows. It’s like watching a humble old friend that wants you to succeed just like he does and always has. Thank you David Blanton for your kindness and sharing your wisdom about life and the deer woods. God bless you brother!

He really breaks it down and gets to the meat and potatoes... thank you sir for your time, I will try to implement your strategies in my future hunts. This is my first time listening to you.

    We had the magic late season combo a couple years back. A good turnip plot and some standing corn and a snowstorm. We lost count after 63 deer. I'll never forget that late season. It really can be the best time of year.

  • @paulbernitt4280

    Agreed! Pre rut from October 25- November 5 is the best time to be in a rut funnel. The bucks are so worked up and sexually frustrated that they have a hard time staying still and often throw their senses out the window. The rut is more difficult to hunt because the bucks get locked down with does. The first week or 2 in December can be good as well when the yearling does come into estrus and the other does that didnt get bred come into estrus. I dont like cold weather so I dont like hunting in bitter cold temps.

    I have always liked the pre rut but when i was a younger hunter seldom did i kill a deer after Thanksgiving here in TN. After i have gotten older and really learned big bucks i've found the post rut has put good mounts on my wall. If you have got that food source i'd say don't waste your time on many average days but if that temp really dips down you had better be out there because it can be magical. Low 20s and below look out and even better with snow on the ground if you can be so lucky! Also, if it's really cold like that and more windy than normal those deer will often go to thicker cover or in a deep hollow trying to skirt some of the wind but they will be on their feet because they have to eat when it's that cold. Good video here and ol' David is a favorite.

      Tennessee has a rut in late November again in late December. But I have seen deer running does in early November but not mounting

    • @ForgottenHillbilly
      @ForgottenHillbilly 4 месяца назад

      @@MichaelWilliams-to3cj There is only one rut. There is a lock down phase like David mentioned in the video that can seem dead and it picks up again after that. In December is when a lot of younger does reach sexual maturity and can come into estrus for the 1st time. Also older does that didn't get to breed will come back into estrus. It can get screwy sometimes. I have seen deer chase in October but that isn't often. Even though most does will breed in November here you have a select few that can go earlier or later.

    • @MichaelWilliams-to3cj
      @MichaelWilliams-to3cj 4 месяца назад

      @@ForgottenHillbilly i believe bucks will breed for those two months. In a sense it seems like two different periods because sometimes bucks are breeding and sometimes not. You are right its one breeding season . Bucks will cruise for does in tennessee for 30 days or more in my experience. From November 7 to December 20-30. I've seen bucks chase and breed. Happy 4th of July 👍

    I agree late season is good. I almost just take it easy all Nov and pass even my shooters. Because I know holiday break is coming. I also actually get MOST my old buck nov3-11. I like lock down. That doe will pull em. My 6 trophies all came with a doe in front.

    • @mrd4865
      @mrd4865 2 месяца назад

      Agree, I love late season. And I also agree, "lock down" can be great if you have the does around. I've had a lot of success then too. Even early season I've killed a few mature bucks, but that window is much shorter.
      Here's my issue with Mr. Blantons description of "lock down" (and many other hunters). They describe it as if all the bucks are locked down with a doe somewhere. Sure, when the most does are in estrous, more bucks will be locked down with them, however, a mature buck is only staying with that doe for a maximum of about 48 hours (studies show more like 12-24 hours) and then they're off in search of the next one. The doe still goes about business as usual and the buck shadows her. So like you said, the right doe strolls by dragging along Mr. Big, it's a great day. Or if he's done with Sally and he's out looking for his next girlfriend.
      I believe they also have "circuits" that they run, knowing where certain does come into heat at certain times.

    The best time to hunt any whitetail is at night. Particularly, in East Texas…….other than the rut, it’s the only time they ain’t hiding in a thicket.
