Great video I hunt Georgia and have always enjoyed mornings best , but I will sit all day often. I've only been doing it for 45 years so I'm still learning.
I’m definitely starting to rethink this too. 70% of the deer I’ve killed in Georgia have been in the afternoon/evening . But when I’ve killed in the mornings it’s been late season.
This is a great question. And there's really no perfect answer. It really does depend on where you are. I have been a deer hunter for 45 years. I live in central North Carolina but hunt also in southern Va, SC and, for the last few years I've hunted West Virginia. I've never hunted Georgia but it seems that Georgia has very similar terrain as does NC. For example, we have lots of pines that are mixed with hardwoods. Early season I like to sneak in the hardwood bottoms and find areas where acorns are dropping. I see lots of deer movement early in the morning and have more success in the mornings. Early season it is very hot and as a rule of thumb the deer movement is over by 9:00 in the morning. In the late afternoons during archery season the deer will move just at twilight, so I like to set up and ambush deer as they are moving to a feeding area. So, I like to set up near bean fields for example and I've had a lot of success when deer are coming out to feed. Toward the end of the video David mentioned how thick some of the areas are here in the southeast. He's absolutely right. So many times I'm up in my stand and look down and, wow, where did that buck come from. They sneak up on you here. Anyhow, that's good stuff. But for me the answer is "morning".
Since he doesn’t really give an answer, I’ll give my two cents: IT DEPENDS ON THE TIME OF YEAR AND WHAT TYPE OF AREA YOU ARE HUNTING. During the rut, I’ve killed most of my big deer between 10am and 2pm. During pre or post rut, you can’t beat that last hour of daylight, especially if you’re hunting over a food source. Mornings are really only productive in my neck of the woods if you are hunting next to where they bed down during the day.
Been hunting since the 60's, it's all about where you are hunting. I got about a dozen in the evening, but the vast majority were in the morning before 9 am. Also the 3 biggest racks were in the am.
I hunt in southwestern Va, I have seen the bulk of good bucks on their feet in that mid day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. time frame. That is during rut and second rut to post rut. Our southern ruts are kinda funny
I hunt central and south Alabama, I’ve found I see more bucks in the mornings usually within the 1st hour or less of daylight cause they’ve been up feeding all night and I’ll catch them headed back to bed down , when the rut is on, I’ll stay from dark til dark cause it can literally happen at anytime during the day, i see bucks in the evenings but it’s more obvious in the mornings in my expierience
Ive only been hunting since '06 but based on my personal experiences in multiple Midwest states ive never gotten a deer prior to 10AM. The vast majority have been between 10:30-1:30 and a big handful last hour of legal shooting light. Didn't matter weather it was early/mid/ late season
Food sources are better afternoon spots simply due to the deer being in the fields in the dark. Rut funnels can be all day in the prerut. Knowing deer movement in different parts of the season can make morning good as long as entry and exit plans are established.
I live in upstate New York. I’d really like some of the pros to talk about hunting tips for this area of the country. It’s hard to find information about this area. We have good whitetail deer here too.
Great observations! Where you are hunting along with time of year and weather play a big part. Also if you are hunting one certain deer his patterns feeding, working scrapes and so on can dictate a morning or evening or sometimes all day dawn to dusk. Good luck this season. Happy Independence Day!
Morning only. I'm not tracking game after dark anymore and then skinning til 10 pm before even getting supper and a shower. But I'm fortunate to have a fantastic hunting lease along a river and a blind that I can get in and out of without spooking deer off of my plot. I watch deer every time I'm in the blind and often walk in on them before daylight and get my binoculars out and glass the silhouettes of deer until daylight when I can identity the ones I know from trail cam pics. I've harvested 3 wall hangers in 3 years from this setup. Now I'm going to lay off of the bucks and see just how many I can get to reach maturity.
Did the same thing on my property a few years ago. Didn’t pull the trigger on a buck for 3 years to let them mature. What a difference. The average deer on my farm 3 years ago was 120-130 inches. Now there are several that are well over 160
I've been hunting since 1972. I have hunted spots that were only good for mornings, and others only good for evening hunts. Rarely I found places that were equally good mornings and evenings. I shot a 160 class deer on public property around 2PM; that spot was unique for me because for many years it was a mid-day spot that produced nice bucks. One spot like that. I have no idea why.
Iam 68 years old, All day. Any time you can spend hunting, YOU HUNT!! If your not hunting midday, YOU ARE A PART TIMER!! Mid day is just as good as any other time of day.Do not be cutting your hunting time if you do not have to!!
Thank God! You cracked the case..now I finally know. The best time for you to hunt is when your guide out of your box blind window on the 1,000 acre private farm says look David there’s a 200” buck in the open field in the middle of daylight ready for you to shoot.. you haven’t hunted a real deer in 40 years probably
@@fiend8677 have you ever watched their shows Bub? They are literally sitting in box blinds over fields with a guide and a camera man and a rifle resting on the window sill…hellooo! Here’s your sign!… as Jeff foxworthy would say.
@ sorry to upset you Bub..Learn big buck behavior and stick with it and maybe you’ll even do better than me you never know. Big bucks are a whole other animal species altogether..don’t listen to any hunter on tv. They’re not hunting any of the places you or I have to hunt.
I barely ever kill anything early or late season in the afternoon I think I could count on one hand and how many deer I’ve killed in the afternoon or evening almost every single deer that I’ve shot has been in the morning
I have hunted for 40 or more years I have found out for my experience morning works better in early season the later the season evening hunts are better for me
I've been deer hunting in eastern Kentucky for over 30 years and I can tell you that the best time to hunt deer here is from about 10 p.m. to 2 a.m..
Lmfao
In the northeast in a small state like mine . That time frame has never produced! Usually it’s until 9 am then for 4pm until dark !
11-2 pm is the most unproductive time in N. Texas
😂
@@devindow9884 we got bizness?
I like mornings because searching for deer at night sucks. Plus, I'm tired at night.
What a massive amount of knowledge! God bless you my brother in Christ. Thank you for all your years of hunting videos! You are the best!

I'm a senior and old habits are hard to beat, go in early stay late. I hunt public land in Eastern Ky so its not the best but its still hunting.

The correct answer to best times to hunt is yes
You’ve said it as good as I believe one can say it! My 45 yr experience bow hunting concludes very similar thoughts. It’s hard to answer 👍
3 of the 4 biggest bucks I've ever killed were at lunchtime. The biggest but I've ever seen was also around noon.
I hunt in southwestern Va, I have seen the bulk of good bucks on their feet in that mid day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. time frame. That is during rut and second rut to post rut. Our southern ruts are kinda funny
I’ve had the same experience in GA. My three biggest bucks were between 11am-1pm
Depending on what part if the country your in, but if it’s cold, 10 a.m. to 1. If it’s warm, last 30 minutes of daylight
This is true

Got two minutes in and turned it off. Amazing how someone can talk for two straight minutes without saying anything at all.
you have mental issues, go see a proctologist
Smart decision, I actually watched all of it and not answer lol

Unnecessary comment, find another video. you probably won’t even harvest one this season

Ok, but why do you prefer afternoons for southeast area hunting in thick woods?
Mornings when the deer are active and the game wardens are not! :)
It depends properly to properly . Time of year .

Last hour in the evening, rut or no rut.
They don’t call it magic hour for nothing
The golden hour. As soon as the sun hits the tree line, the forest seems to come alive
Ok alfalfa and above timberline is way different hunting. Try hunting the mountain tops.
When there is a heavy frost on the ground and the sun starts coming up in ga
Why not just hunt from sun up to sun down?
Because when you’re hunting northern Wisconsin and it’s -10 with windchill, it’s not much fun sitting in a tree stand all day lol
100% of my successful hunts have been in the evening. But 99% of my best hunts have been in the morning.
I go when I can.
Best time to deer hunt is during deer season 😂
I like to go deer hunting after dark, everyone as gone home and there is no competition in the woods!😎🦌
