The problem of Joker 2 is: People were OK with watching the first Joker movie without seing a Batman and just following"a man going wild". So basically why Artur became the Joker. But for a second movie, people won't accept that again. Not having some kind of confrontation with a Batman makes this more a highly expensive arthouse movie. Todd Phillips didn't want to have a sequel but when the studio came and the truck full of money stopped in front of his house, he changed his mind. But the studio said: "You can't have a Batman. We already have so many... And more will come..." Only GREAT word of mouth could save this movie . But that does not seem to be the case. So I would expect (to give it in Dan's accuracy) a worldwide result of 523,897,453.74 $ 🙂
Jeff Snieder runs hot and cold. He can give good scoops but he can also fall flat on his face with very bad ones. The problem is that Sneider, when faced with giving a bad scoop goes on a war path, which makes things even worse for him. This is not the first time with him going off the rails, he did the same thing with a scoop he did with about Sydney Sweeney doing a film with Johnny Depp. When Sweeney's representatives denied the story, Jeff went on the war path with them and the actress. I know he's your friend but 9 times out of 10, the trouble Jeff Sneider gets himself into he usually brings apond himself
Which is not to say aggregate websites aren't a huge problem, but I agree with you in every aspect. Jeff either can't imagine being wrong or has a problem with digging his heels in when being called out, and he gets himself into a lot of hot water because of it
I spend a lot of time in various video game communities and it's rife with leaks and scoops too and honestly it's just exhausting because people will latch on to the smallest thing and absolutely lose their minds at the wrong people if it turns out not to be true
Thank you for the heads-up on the spoilers for Joker! Ill be careful. I adored the first Joker and was super skeptical at the idea of a sequel until I heard the premise. A crime love story with musical numbers sounds like it can be bizarre and amazing, but only if it goes hard enough, and the trailers haven't looked spectacular yet. Lady Gaga's line reading just feels so flat and I desperately want her Harley to be weird and interesting. Fingers crossed that the movie delivers!
As a kid, I grew up with CBMs coming out 1 every other year or 1 every 3 years. These sporadic releases were often low quality so the wait for the next one was even harder. But ever since the MCU (and eventually DCEU) I got a treat every single year for 15 year and sometimes I’m simply happy a CBM exist (even if it’s bad). Joker 2 seems (so far) to be one of those.
I would be very surprised if Joker 2 could do the same BO numbers the first did. I don't think it will outright flop, but I don't think the same buzz that propelled the first one will be there for the sequel. Even if it wasn't a musical, I think there was something very specific around the expectations and word of mouth about the first movie that no sequel will be able to recapture.
"Mainstream" is such a meaningless term. How about giving examples of "mainstream media" doing anything more than reporting on specific people/organisations doing that. I also find it laughable to complain about "mainstream media" when social media literally produces MORE misinformation than factual statements, in mass quantities.
Yeah I don't think mainstream media wants you to steer clear of any movie it gives press to. At the end of the day all these conglomerates want to make money. You don't make as much money from an uncontroversial movie. You don't make as much from a movie no one goes to see (unless it's heavily memed). They wanted you to go see Joker.
I was privileged enough to see The Wild Robot (with Lupita Nyong'o and the director, Chris Sanders, present at the theater for a Q and A) last Tuesday. Thanks to the New York International Children's Film Festival for the opportunity. Solid animation and character design. Quite enjoyable and funny. Disappointing third act when it tilts into a bland action movie with its belated and wildly unnecessary villain subplot. They should have taken a proverbial page from Studio Ghibli and Pixar and kept the whole thing simple and wholesome.
I’m so happy to hear The Life of Chuck won the People’s Choice Award at TIFF. I’ve read the novella and absolutely adore it, so when I heard Mike Flanagan was adapting it I was ecstatic.
No one ask for it, high budget, and price of ticket is a luxury (also it will be in streaming in a few months because no one ask for it and not a priority)
I have a friend who sees every superhero movie and always invites me along. He often pre-orders tickets when they become available. I haven't heard anything from him about getting tickets for this yet.
Joker was a perfect one off movie. Just like Jaws right behind you. However, I do enjoy watching the terrible Jaws sequels. Joker 2 just doesn’t interest me though.
Not only did the trailer look meh, kinda look like more of the EXACT same as original, but hearing it's gonna be a musical - which I personally hate - my interest waned.
I hate to be the obnoxious jerk who posts this unrelated rubbish in comments but I’m dying to hear your thoughts about Transformers One Dan! Hope all is going well for you personally. ❤
Flop. I am a comic nerd and loved the first one - it reminded me of Alan Moore's The Killing Joke - all it takes is a bad day to reduce a sane man alive to lunacy. ** I was concerned about Joaquin's interviews after the first film - it was like he was trying to convince people that Joker was bad and that he should not be a hero. ???? I was like - um ... Joker is not a hero - Joker has been here and will be here after your film - Joker/Batman aren't going anywhere. I won't spoil anything for you - but Joker 2 has a little bait and switch with Gaga and it seemed more an attempt for them to say "Joker bad weird fans (stans)" That is both insulting and a Fail for me.
Wow Saturday Night was supposed to win Peoples' Choice and it did not even place. That has got to hurt. Also does Life of Chuck come out this year now after an unexpected win?
The life of Chuck winning was such a surprise for me. I didnt see that one coming AT ALL I think it would be silly not to release this year and have a campaig around the TIFF win. I’m betting Amazon distributes this one based on the relationahip Flanagan already has there
The reason the first made so much was because a lot of us including myself watched it more than once in theaters. I don’t think thats going to be the case with this one. I’ve been turned off since they announced it was a musical but I will still check it out
Don't think it will fail, but I also certainly think it isn't gonna be anywhere near as successful as the first film was, especially now that the turn on the first film is becoming more wider spread (Though personally, still enjoy the first film, warts and all. Can't hate the film just for the stair dance alone.). More damning now with how well "Deadpool and Wolverine" did on it's R Rating too. Still gonna check it out, I liked the ideas enough, and them slipping into more surrealism for the sequel does intrigue me.
As a fan of both Mike Flanagan and Tom Hiddleston, I've been looking forward to The Life of Chuck for a while. I'm also surprised that it won at Toronto given that I hadn't heard anything else about it until now.
"Early tracking has Joker opening around $70 million opening..." Amazing to see now, in 2nd week, and film is barely *half* of that projection domestically
I dont see anywhere near the same amount of interest in my friend group. Im predicting a flop. Its such an odd direction to take a sequel, I dont think it will pay off.
A surprise success and a surprise failure would sound like an even trade. The framing device reported for the story sounds like it risks being static. Though reportedly Harley is less manic than usual, we know who these characters are...
A lot of Spiderverse's issues come from the simple fact that they didnt actually start production on that until last year. They dont know when its coming out because the release date was set years ago long before the second movie was anywhere near production, it actually was dated way back when they initially decided to make kt a two parter. Back when the second film was dated for 2022. Production got away from them badly and then the strikes. The movie likely will come out in 2027 or late 2026 and thats not because of creative differences its just because production was just messy. They overworked their staff to get out part 2 and had 0 time to work on part 3 and its biting them in the ass. Simple yet frustrating answer.

Excited to see Charts with Dan this week. I saw the 4th best box office selling film of this weekend. It was hilarious and delivered.
I doubt it will be a complete flop, but the people who predicted it to be well over a billion will be eating crow most likely
Did somebody say... *Scoops?* 🔍🤠
Jeff either can't imagine being wrong or has a problem with digging his heels in when being called out, and he gets himself into a lot of hot water because of it
I like your news videos
I spend a lot of time in various video game communities and it's rife with leaks and scoops too and honestly it's just exhausting because people will latch on to the smallest thing and absolutely lose their minds at the wrong people if it turns out not to be true
Its going to flop. Too many early negatives, and fans don't want a mushy love story musical.
There isn't that many negative reviews. Remember the 1st movie only got like 67 percent approval rating. Most European critics like it.
🤡🤡
Nobody said it's a musical, sheep
@@Gavin48 they like it but also say it is very different from the first one
Hm, has enough time passed for a Scoops McGee legacyquel? A chill goes down my spine whenever Dan says the word "scoops"!
I love Jeff and Rocha, those are my dudes ❤️🔥🔥
I would be very surprised if Joker 2 could do the same BO numbers the first did. I don't think it will outright flop, but I don't think the same buzz that propelled the first one will be there for the sequel. Even if it wasn't a musical, I think there was something very specific around the expectations and word of mouth about the first movie that no sequel will be able to recapture.
People forget buzz created by...."If you watch this, you'll commit hate crime" narrative for joker.... It rammed up people's curiosity
Exactly. It’s the classic “mainstream media drives people to something by trying to convince people to stay away from it” situation.
The classic “mainstream media drives people to something by trying to convince them to stay away from it” situation
Not true 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Scoops?! Getcha scoops
Set is looking good ⚡️
The news with Dan
This would've been a great episode to bring back Scoops McGee
I hate musicals. I’m never watching this
A sequel was a mistake. The original was one of a kind, unrepeatable.
Hey Dan will there be an emmy's vid?
It doesn't look like a good movie.
Made a sequel a musical and hired a huge popstar. Is it a Joker movie or Gaga promo
22:02 The Toronto International Film Festival is "across the pond"? I didn't realize Dan was currently visiting overseas!
It's across the pond from Venice, which was the festival I was referring to in the first part of the segment. I'd love to visit Europe again though!
@@DanMurrellMovies Ah, I understand now where you were coming from.
Also watched a film that comes out in November Bonhoeffer! It is extremely well acted and great cinematography .IMO.
I have a friend who sees every superhero movie and always invites me along. He often pre-orders tickets when they become available. I haven't heard anything from him about getting tickets for this yet.
Are you able to tell me where you got that T-shirt!? Thanks!
Would love to visit Toronto for TIFF at least once in my life!
Joker was a perfect one off movie. Just like Jaws right behind you. However, I do enjoy watching the terrible Jaws sequels. Joker 2 just doesn’t interest me though.
Is chart with Dan moving back to Tuesday?
I don't think it will flop but it won't hit billion like the first movie.
I didnt see that one coming AT ALL
I think it would be silly not to release this year and have a campaig around the TIFF win. I’m betting Amazon distributes this one based on the relationahip Flanagan already has there
The reason the first made so much was because a lot of us including myself watched it more than once in theaters. I don’t think thats going to be the case with this one. I’ve been turned off since they announced it was a musical but I will still check it out
It can and it will.
Yes, it will 100% flop!
Less lady Gaga is a good thing IMO
Yes. I think it could and I think it will.
I just don't think the marketing was there -- a serious missed opportunity.
A surprise success and a surprise failure would sound like an even trade.
The framing device reported for the story sounds like it risks being static. Though reportedly Harley is less manic than usual, we know who these characters are...
i sincerely hope it DOES flop. Seems like they did almost everything i their power for it to NOT be a success.
Can we talk about how crappy our Noles are this year? Because, good lord!
