I love how you turned the Tesla test drive into an interview when you realized the driver was new to the brand. I’m glad Tesla had some limited showing in Detroit but sure wish they had Tesla knowledgeable employees to really be able to share info. Hopefully next time.

My street is full of cars driven by people who enjoy their loud exhausts. The noise is deafening to any other sound. There's an industry of folks cutting their exhausts to be louder. Go figure! It will be a while to change that mindset.

I totally agree with you and the police were at my neighbors house yesterday because of a noise complaint….she has a Mustang 5.0 with the absurdly noisy exhaust. Even idling it is insanely noisy especially since she is in the medical field and works those crazy hours.
Tesla needs better representation in Michigan. People here tend to think that they know all they need to know Automotively speaking. Driving a Tesla is (as you know and demonstrate) a new experience

Hi Chris, I made it to the final Saturday of the Detroit Auto Show (9/23/23) and rode in the blue Model S. I asked about the drive settings and they were still set to the adjustments you made. What a rocket off of the line! I did not tell my wife how fast it would be so she let out a scream during the launch 😂
About the people working at the show, my understanding is that the show event organiser hire those people. The company I work for sometime participate to show events, so we rented a both but the furniture used inside the both needed to be carried and installed by the employees hired by the show event. You cannot do it yourself.
Thank you for showing us what’s going on at the Detroit auto show, I was very interested in what Tesla would be bringing. Them not showing up at all, and the auto show buying the Tesla cars themselves makes a lot of sense with Tesla never being at an auto show in the US before.

If EV owners want to hear exhaust sounds, there are aftermarket products that make real exhaust sounds and are synced to the throttle pedal. Seriously, it's a tailpipe that installs onto the back of the EV and connects to 12 volts and to the CAN buss.
It's interesting that Tesla didn't officially take part in this, but there are Teslas at the show. Hope this gives more people who have never been in one get to see what they're like.

Glad you were there, but seems like a missed opportunity for Tesla. Wish they would send some employees to educate and answer questions. The driver seemed like a nice guy but not going to be able to answer many questions if first time driving the car.
Good job showing the Auto industry in it's current state of decline. I'm a bit surprised that Tesla was a no-show the bastion of ICE vehicle manufacturing show. I suppose it would be like post touchdown celebration taunting as Tesla has pretty much slayed that dragon. I say that as an old car guy who held off even driving an EV until 2021 when I decided to drive a Tesla. The day I test drove the Model Y, I ordered it and in less than 30 days it was in the garage. Like you Chris, there are now 2 Tesla's in the garage with my wife getting a Model 3 SR. We also helped a daughter get a Model 3 SR with the HUGE TAX incentives and other discounts is was under $25K. Why would anyone buy anything else is my question? It comes down to understanding the difference between economical reliable transportation and, toy or status symbol ownership. After having many nice cars in my life, I was definitely ready for the Tesla driving experience. I never for even a second, miss anything about owning and driving an ICE vehicle. A CT is next up and that will likely be my last vehicle purchase.

Here's why there was no line for the Tesla test drives: 1.4 million people already have Teslas in this country. Many more have already ridden in one. Not true for the other cars.
False claim. This was the “preview” day not open to the general public. Just select media and auto suppliers have exclusive access to the show floor when this video was taken. Additionally, this was right when the show doors opened.
Even though Tesla themselves didn't bring any vehicles, it's still pretty cool that the organizers bought some Teslas to include in the show. Another free advertising for Tesla.
I would be surprised if they actually had the Highland here. If they are not Tesla, they wouldn't have any possibility of actually getting the car and if they were Tesla, they wouldn't want to show the car yet in America, they need to sell the old model first.

For Cheetah stance you need to wait. For drag mode, it tells you battery conditioning for optimal performance. You dont HAVE to wait, but youll go faster if you do..
I want you guys to think about it, there is an EV test track in a building. Can't do that with ice cars without putting everyone in attendance to sleep. Just saying.
also in Europe motor shows die out, for some years some brands completely skipped the fairs. It's more expensive for them than you think to show up with an impressive stand at a motor show and not worth anymore, everything is taking place in the internet nowadays.
I drove an Hummer in GMC training at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2022. 0-60 in 3.4 seconds with for men in the vehicle we were over 10K pounds. All 4 wheels break traction and pulls right toward the wall. Very fun.

Tesla is not there because this is a pay to play event. The other manufacturers, like GM, are paying money to be there, like at a trade show. Tesla doesn't see value in these events, so they declined to participate. The event organizer, knowing how much grief they would get if they didn't have Tesla vehicles there, decided to get Tesla vehicles at their own expense, and hire drivers at their own expense.
I've never heard of any auto show that did test rides or even test drives. I've also never heard of vehicles being purchased specifically for the purpose of an auto show.

Others think it's terrible ("I hate the phantom braking!") and think it's dangerous and a waste of money. Is there this difference because the cars or environments are different or do the different drivers react differently to the same situations? To answer that question, get those two different people in the same car for the same drive, and see how they react.

I think driving a hummer ev noone owns is a bit more exciting to drive a Tesla who many probably are able to just test drive with one of their friends or maybe they even own one themselfs or at very least you see on roads every single day. I would assume a hummer ev is an insane rarity if you dont go out of your way to find one # :D
8:21 my guess is most people already experienced tesla vehicles considering a lot of auto employees but not really the other brand EVs there which are relatively new. Hummer EV is definitely not that easy to get a test drive
The auto show would have a hole in the lineup if no Tesla cars were available. Smart for them for taking care of including the cars if not the manufacturer.
I went to the show on Sunday and I was really disappointed in the whole show. All the EVs behind barriers couldn’t see them or interact. Tesla was the biggest disappoint nothing new from Tesla here.
I'm not sure if the Detroit auto Show us the same as the one in Toronto but all of the brands are represented by the local dealership. Since Tesla doesn't have dealerships like the other manufacturers they don't represent them in the same way. Also since they have their stores in malls they probably don't see a reason to go to an auto show.

And the people driving the vehicles were not from Tesla or have driven them before. i guess Tesla wants to keep everything under wraps far as information. This shows how out of touch Detroit Auto Show is. They hire and pay a guy who knows nothing about Tesla to do an underwhelming job, rather than reach out to the Tesla Owner’s Club of Michigan to get someone who knows the cars inside and out (and likely work for free). 😂
Tesla doesn't pay for advertising... (not yet, at least) And neither do they need to. They know they're no. 1 EV company now, eating Toyota, GM and VW for breakfast. Detroit Auto Show, on the other hand... is "nothing" without Tesla.. so they had to buy the Teslas they needed.

8:21 my guess is most people already experienced tesla vehicles considering a lot of auto employees but not really the other brand EVs there which are relatively new. Hummer EV is definitely not that easy to get a test drive

The auto show would have a hole in the lineup if no Tesla cars were available. Smart for them for taking care of including the cars if not the manufacturer.

I went to the show on Sunday and I was really disappointed in the whole show. All the EVs behind barriers couldn’t see them or interact. Tesla was the biggest disappoint nothing new from Tesla here.
I'm not sure if the Detroit auto Show us the same as the one in Toronto but all of the brands are represented by the local dealership. Since Tesla doesn't have dealerships like the other manufacturers they don't represent them in the same way. Also since they have their stores in malls they probably don't see a reason to go to an auto show.

I do think it's very cool that the auto show thought Tesla was important enough to be there that they just bought some themselves

Yeah, that is kind of a weird show for doing Tesla. No employees or representatives to ask important questions. And the people driving the vehicles were not from Tesla or have driven them before.
i guess Tesla wants to keep everything under wraps far as information. Probably get better information at a Tesla service center talking to their sales people.

No Tesla employees - that is really weird.
This shows how out of touch Detroit Auto Show is. They hire and pay a guy who knows nothing about Tesla to do an underwhelming job, rather than reach out to the Tesla Owner’s Club of Michigan to get someone who knows the cars inside and out (and likely work for free). 😂

Detroit Auto Show, on the other hand... is "nothing" without Tesla.. so they had to buy the Teslas they needed.
