I just rolled over 14k miles and I picked mine up about 2 weeks after you. My biggest issue was the low voltage wiring harness was bad. After a month of being in the shop it has driven perfectly. I do have to have my wiper motor replaced as it shakes pretty bad over the speed of 70mph. The vehicle definitely still has a lot of interest and I talk with almost everyone that asks. My only upgrade I am thinking of are road tires for towing my RV.

dude, you don’t seem like a douche but sincerely excited for this. Watch more honest reviews and check out the insurance companies that have decided not to cover this model
My major issue: no pass thru to the bed. I realize the tonneau cover situation but there's got to be a work-around like a "fail safe" mechanical latching that prevents the cover from moving if the pass thru is opened. Lowering the glass would also be a nice part of that. Minor issue: a more multi-flexible tailgate like a 180 degree drop and, come on, a step area on the bumpers on both sides. The "A" pillars obstruction is not a big deal because in my Dodge I have giant mirrors where I can't see anything either requiring a lot of caution. The tray accessory under the back seats and the divider for the bed should have been standard in the Foundation Series but I will spring for those. One word review: SMOOTH.
For the amount of times you might use it Tesla felt its complexity was not needed for the initial versions. Maybe in 10 years they will update it and engineer it in.

Yeah, back when we had a gasser, we left at least 15 min early if needing to stop. Just a couple days ago, my wife noted how nice it has been never having to leave early for fuel since getting our Tesla.

Yeah, I reserved Sept 2023 and got an invite July 2023 ! I went into the Tesla shop in Santa Monica, and asked how long my wait would be (back in Sept 2023 - and Tesla was beginning production Oct 2023). The representative laughed and said “oh… could be many years” Looks like indeed, many reservation holders are passing on it. I’m personally going to pull the trigger for the RWD version/if the price comes closer to 55-60k.
I wonder if for the "heating" it is really just stopping the cooling loop from running in the battery, and letting internal heat just warm the pack. Any numbers on that, i.e. seeing discharge curve get steeper when preconditioning going on?
There are apps and dongles on the CAN-bus you can use on other Teslas and the batteries are definitely actively heated. You can see the inlet temperature on the cooling water going higher than the outlet temperature. I don't know if they have any apps like that working on the Cybertruck yet, since the computer network in the car is of a new type, too. If you watch Teslabjorn videos, he usually has some sort of device hooked up to get extra nerdy data.
10:05 the energy you waste in heat while charging fast should not affect the total capacity you reach, you're "just" gonna use more electricity, pay more, and reduce the expected lifespan of your battery a bit faster. Shouldn't affect autonomy I believe. (doesn't mean I like Tesla ;))
even at 350Wh/mi that's like 218Wh/km which is about 60Wh/km more than my model 3. Over a say 250,000 km lifespan of the vehicle is 6.2MWh more energy used in the CT vs the M3.
@@RedvinezYGO The CT is very aerodynamic by the way. But it's mass is the culprit. Also, I believe it's more efficient than all other Pickups, maybe even the "étron".
@@maxpelletier2237 it’s not even the most aerodynamic electric truck, it’s aero is good considering its shape but otherwise any car company actually trying to make something aerodynamic clears it For instance the etron is notoriously inefficient because it wasn’t trying to be
I can think of a few changes that I'd like to see in the Cybertruck: The option for an insulated steel roof instead of glass (too hot in the summer for those in the south), redesign the side windows to be "framed" instead of "frameless" (on all Teslas), Put a rear view camera on the back of the roof so it doesn't get dirty and can be used when the tunneau is closed.
I did want to quickly mention that for the standard range model 3 and standard range model Ys when they were a thing Tesla did and does place an artificial delay on the acceleration
Thank you for the great video. Did you have the chance to drive a model X? I currently own a 2024 MX LR. Comfort, ride quality, and cabin noise are on top of my priority list as I do A LOT of driving. Between the CB and the MX, which would you say is the better ride? Thank you!
Yeah ruclips.net/video/2alKR-C5vFs/видео.html I talk about our X service issues midway through the video. Cybertruck is better ride quality and more quiet than X, although X was also great.
@@DirtyTesla Thank you for the quick response. Now I don't feel bad placing my invitation order for the non-foundation. Already got a vin. Now waiting for the delivery date!
Thanks Chris. I just want one. My only problem: I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 so have to wait till it comes downunder. (Hopefully that’s just a couple of years at most.)
I currently have a long range Model Y and drive 120 miles round trip to work and I have to charge as soon as i get home. I have a tesla wall charger, how long to Charge the cybertruck to 80/85% ??
I suspect if you keep it pushing and charge more than once the heating won't hurt so bad, but they're likely optimized for time over efficiency as you speculate there.
Bro literally describes a bunch of repairs he has to get because of the poor build quality and tries to spin it as a positive. He states " Durability is there" even though the rest of us have seen plenty of examples of the cybertruck falling apart when folks do truck things with it. Basically He's recommending an overpriced, unreliable truck that you should get in order to look cool on front of other bros when you go to the grocery store.
I got an email in July that the wheel covers and light bar were going to be ready soon. I’m wondering if I should be contacting them to make sure they didn’t forget about me.
I think I may have had a similar creaky seat in my model Y. It ended up fixing itself after I moved the seat forward and back a ton trying to find where it was coming from. You might give that a shot with the passenger seat
Thank you Chris for such an amazing Cybertruck review! I plan to buy a used Cybertruck in 10 years. I hope to drive it across the USA from coast to coast! Max
The evaluations should be slotted into categories. Such as suitability for what you intended to use it for, the UI or user experience of driving it, the cosmetic issues, and the one that I would be most interested in. RELIABILITY, vehicles after all are TRANSPORTATION, was there ever an incident where you had to find alternate transportation when you were on the road? Did it always get you there and back with no hassles?
Question not specific to your video, which was very good......my cybertruck reservation was very late. My res. # starts with 114xx. I got notification yesterday that I could configure, order and take delivery in a less than a month the $80k AWD version. With my extremely late reservation how is this possible unless demand at the current pricing is not there?
A Tesla mobile tech came to my place a couple of months ago. He was driving a Model S. I asked him if he could have a Cybertruck to drive . He said yes but can get more parts and supplies in the S. What do you think?
Chris, I just got my non-Foundation invite, BUT I'm at about 402,000 (according to the tracker on Cybertruck Owners Forum). I did my pre-order 15 days after the Nov 2019 reveal. So why did I get one of the first non-Foundation invites? Could it be that there were that many cancellations?!!
28:00 trying to remain somewhat objective and put aside my... let's say, dislike for all things Musk... who cares about the looks per se... I don't like it and it doesn't seem like a finished product to me but I'm not gonna reproach their personal esthetic tastes to anyone... What bothers me a lot is that this look, because of the structure it relies on (rigid stainless steel), is a *huge* security risk to anything else on the road. The Cybertruck cannot be sold in Europe for instance because it doesn't pass pedestrian impact safety tests. It's not a problem for the US, you do not have regulations about pedestrian safety 😅
Hey, we had a late 1000 vin and we had the same problem a lot earlier, it is the center console, as a temporary fix we also sprayed some foam filler spray or something like that I don’t know exactly, but I hope that helps you16:14
Can anyone explain why Tesla does not pass on the $7500 tax savings for leases? The reps say it is, but none of the small print shows it, and Tesla financing will not confirm it in writing.
I converted my day 1 reservation to an order right after I got the invite to the non-foundation series, thinking it qualified for the tax credit (because Tesla previously said it would likely qualify and it even showed up on the EPA site with the under $80,000 price). But then I found out it didn't and they wouldn't let me go back to my spot in the reservation line and I had to pay a $250 penalty to cancel on top of it all. So I got totally screwed over and Tesla just doesn't care. Brand loyalty seriously damaged with that move. :( If you have A/Z plan, you can get a Lightning Flash for $51,725 plus tax after all the discounts vs $79.995 with Cybertruck, so that's where I'm looking at for now.
Why mention Tesla are honouring the original FSD (which is fake anyway) cost of £7k? They aren't honouring their launch price of £40k, which is definitely a bigger deal! Cherry picked review, not an honest review.
5:00 besides the fact that such acceleration is mostly useless, I would guess that most constructors somewhat restrict the amount of power immediately available because when such a huge electrical inductor as an electric motor with that kind of power is started it uses an insane initial inrush of current and this puts a lot of stress on many components, which has to be compensated for by expensive electronics (at least on that scale, I would guess - and hope it's done properly). That's just coming from my experience with small scale electronics projects, take it with a grain of salt, I'm no physicist nor engineer.
Love the non foundation CT (especially with the eventual 7500 Point of Sale). Really wish camp mode AC/heat could extend to the truck bed for more car camping versatility🙏🎉
7:20 well, the Model Y is very light compared to the Cybertruck. Such a heavy vehicle tends to fishtail a lot more and if you're not used to that, you will loose control very quickly. So Tesla did the right thing there and put this behind an "offroad mode" button. :)
@@DirtyTesla just hit that damn offroad button, if you want to ;) In all seriousness: Fish tailing a heavy vehicle is no fun for most people, as they will instinctively overcompensate the steering input, leading to something which is called pilot induced oscillation in aviation. So they will fishtail until they either spin out or crash. I think it's good that Tesla tried to mitigate this. :)
Good review. Changes I want to see before I consider a Cybertruck: - better windshield wipers - A-pillar reduction / size improvements - rear visibility improvements (a video feed rear view mirror should be standard at $80k+) - better rain sensing (Tesla sucks at this overall) I’d love a pickup or larger SUV for my next car but will probably go Rivian if Tesla doesn’t make some big changes to Cybertruck.
I'm interested to see what improvements they make over the coming years. The tonneau cover seems to break/come lose off-roading. That A-pillar cover has come loose for numerous owners. Every owner seems to agree that the rear-view mirror should be replaced by a screen/camera, especially one where you can switch between looking behind or looking at the cargo space. Many people also asking for a spare tire. Maybe they can make that work as an option instead of the under-bed storage. #1 thing would be having a 500mi range option for those who want to tow or go farther off the beaten track, power their cabin, that kind of thing. With some newer batteries claiming 500W/kg, that could potentially be done in the not-too-distant-future without adding any weight.

I went into the Tesla shop in Santa Monica, and asked how long my wait would be (back in Sept 2023 - and Tesla was beginning production Oct 2023). The representative laughed and said “oh… could be many years”
Looks like indeed, many reservation holders are passing on it.
I’m personally going to pull the trigger for the RWD version/if the price comes closer to 55-60k.
@27:00 The truck is missing a couple things: front bench seat from reveal, and needs a rear camera washer. Smaller wheel option
Personally with kids, i am glad we did the gray interior vs the white paneling!
one complaint: they need to add electrostatic charges to the stainless steel to fling off all that dirt!
There's definitely a huge increase in energy use as soon as preconditioning turns on
10:05 the energy you waste in heat while charging fast should not affect the total capacity you reach, you're "just" gonna use more electricity, pay more, and reduce the expected lifespan of your battery a bit faster.
Note that the battery is also larger (123KWh vs 75KWh or ~60KWh) so it should not affect lifetime.
wow smaller cars are more efficient???? Who would’ve guessed a mid-sized aerodynamic sedan uses less energy than a triangle shaped truck
@@RedvinezYGO The CT is very aerodynamic by the way. But it's mass is the culprit. Also, I believe it's more efficient than all other Pickups, maybe even the "étron".
@@maxpelletier2237 it’s not even the most aerodynamic electric truck, it’s aero is good considering its shape but otherwise any car company actually trying to make something aerodynamic clears it
For instance the etron is notoriously inefficient because it wasn’t trying to be
@@RedvinezYGO I never said it was the most aerodynamic, I implied it was good enough to be the most efficient.
Lack of range is my biggest complaint, especially for camping/towing in the rural west where there are fewer charging stations.
You can add a locking electric cover to any truck, I have put them on all my trucks. The down side is it does take up extra room in the bed.
My 6door f350 is 24ft and i can park it just fine, so Cybertruck around 18ft is no biggie!
Why do you think the non foundation dual motor has 15 miles less range with the highway tires?
If you reserve early, do you get to buy the truck at ~$40,000? Once it is ready when they were still showing the $39,999 price?
Thanks for your honest and straightforward update.
I did want to quickly mention that for the standard range model 3 and standard range model Ys when they were a thing Tesla did and does place an artificial delay on the acceleration
My 2023 model x. I love. But I am considering getting Cybertruck and saying goodbye. Thoughts?
You still have problem with the head lights in snow conditions?
We'll find out soon... If it snows. Barely got any last year.
Question regarding the Outisan E-Wagon Air...
Does/Would it work well in/on sand?
Thank you for the great video. Did you have the chance to drive a model X? I currently own a 2024 MX LR. Comfort, ride quality, and cabin noise are on top of my priority list as I do A LOT of driving. Between the CB and the MX, which would you say is the better ride? Thank you!
Yeah ruclips.net/video/2alKR-C5vFs/видео.html
I talk about our X service issues midway through the video. Cybertruck is better ride quality and more quiet than X, although X was also great.
@@DirtyTesla Thank you for the quick response. Now I don't feel bad placing my invitation order for the non-foundation. Already got a vin. Now waiting for the delivery date!
Send me an email or DM on x after you get it and lmk what you think!
Do you think that not having a way to a/c the vault is a missed opportunity?
Thanks Chris. I just want one. My only problem: I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 so have to wait till it comes downunder. (Hopefully that’s just a couple of years at most.)
I currently have a long range Model Y and drive 120 miles round trip to work and I have to charge as soon as i get home.
I have a tesla wall charger, how long to Charge the cybertruck to 80/85% ??
$3500 extra for off-road tyres, seriously! You can get good off road tyres for 150 each easily.
That's more like £6k, as you are swapping the existing tyres. Unless you get to keep the original tyres, which I doubt!
@walshysworld245 have you ever bought a tyre? It sure doesn't sound like it.
Have you heard anything about the possibility of an aftermarket 6 seat retrofit
Mine is now available for configuration but I’m on the fence 🤔
Just checked and I can only purchase the foundation series. Where do you get these prices?
Thank you Chris for such an amazing Cybertruck review! I plan to buy a used Cybertruck in 10 years. I hope to drive it across the USA from coast to coast!
Max
I just got my wheel covers installed. I did a service request asking for them, and they just happened to have them now.
Did it always get you there and back with no hassles?
like the ev foldable..... wonder about a wheel chair seat?
Your higher average power consumption could perhaps coming from heating and other things while stationary?
Hi Chris, do you know when the range extender battery is going to be available? Would you buy it if you could?
16:11 Yep, center console. Mine made a similar sound. They fixed it.
I received mine in June, I agree with Chris across the board. Its great
A Tesla mobile tech came to my place a couple of months ago. He was driving a Model S. I asked him if he could have a Cybertruck to drive . He said yes but can get more parts and supplies in the S. What do you think?
That makes no sense lol... Bed+back seat bench folded up is way more than an S
Can anyone comment on the insurance costs between cybertruck and MX? I am interested in both vehicles for different reasons. Thanks.
I own a 22 raptor and have owned several super trucks and the cyberbeast is my favorite of them all.
😏
@ nice red truck 👍
Like Too $hort not to make your daily commute, a joy.
My Model 3 Highland also lowers the power when I try to go full blast around a curve. It's soooo frustrating 😅 It's treating me like a child.
Fantastic review. Nice to see an objective update.
If I buy a CT and pull a trailer, in most cases could I hog multiple spaces without inconveniencing anybody?
Most of the time yes besides busy chargers. Many have pull in spots too you can use
What was better, waiting in anticipation or actually owning it?
OWNING! The anticipation was awful lol
Hey, we had a late 1000 vin and we had the same problem a lot earlier, it is the center console, as a temporary fix we also sprayed some foam filler spray or something like that I don’t know exactly, but I hope that helps you16:14
Hey Chris, how is the wind noise in the CT? for example at 70mph how does it exhibit more wind noise than your other teslas?
If you have A/Z plan, you can get a Lightning Flash for $51,725 plus tax after all the discounts vs $79.995 with Cybertruck, so that's where I'm looking at for now.
Try "a better route planner" for road trips offers more control over how much you stop and how long.
Why mention Tesla are honouring the original FSD (which is fake anyway) cost of £7k? They aren't honouring their launch price of £40k, which is definitely a bigger deal! Cherry picked review, not an honest review.
You can see a lot of copium in the comments. It's a $100k vehicle after all.
1:21 You said a $5k premium, but it's actually only $3,095 (I paid $99,990 for my FS).
7:20 well, the Model Y is very light compared to the Cybertruck. Such a heavy vehicle tends to fishtail a lot more and if you're not used to that, you will loose control very quickly. So Tesla did the right thing there and put this behind an "offroad mode" button. :)
Yeah let me fishtail it!
@@DirtyTesla just hit that damn offroad button, if you want to ;)
In all seriousness: Fish tailing a heavy vehicle is no fun for most people, as they will instinctively overcompensate the steering input, leading to something which is called pilot induced oscillation in aviation.
So they will fishtail until they either spin out or crash.
I think it's good that Tesla tried to mitigate this. :)
Got mine in July and still don’t have my aero covers either…
Is insurance an issue?
Good review. Changes I want to see before I consider a Cybertruck:
- better windshield wipers
- A-pillar reduction / size improvements
- rear visibility improvements (a video feed rear view mirror should be standard at $80k+)
- better rain sensing (Tesla sucks at this overall)
I’d love a pickup or larger SUV for my next car but will probably go Rivian if Tesla doesn’t make some big changes to Cybertruck.
Recognized Ann Arbor in the video. New Tesla owner also in Michigan and planning trip to Florida.. haha. Great video
How’s the insurance?
