Great driving on the mustang's part. I don't know why 911's are sacred. He had the boost for acceleration but you could see the weight of that lump hanging out the back slowing him in the curves. I've seen race spec miata's (base engine) keep up with a 911 on the track. The 911 would pull away in the straights but the miata would catch it at every curve.
That seems to be more driver than car there. My buddy and I use to go to the local Porsche club autocrosses in his stock NB Miata and clean house. I once took TTOD by more than 7 seconds! They hated us so much they use to add extra time to us for phantom cones we didn't hit just to keep us from winning everything.
@@plantfeeder6677 Don't doubt you one bit. In my NC club sport I was able to catch up to pocket rockets in some twisty bits. A fast driver in a slow car is quite often faster than a slow driver in a fast car.
What happened to the white Porsche? I'm presuming mechanical issues seeing he slowed considerably then pulled into the pits. If he'd kept going at full tilt there was no way they were catching him, he was disappearing up the road before the problem struck.

I have heard of that group. I shipped a 1970 Mustang Trans Am car to New Zealand in 2010 and raced three weekends with Dale Mathers of Coastline Automotive. We ran the inaugural Bruce Mclaren Festival at Hampton Downs, Pukekohe and Taupo. The Taupo weekend even was with the Central Muscle Cars. I was very impressed with the skill of the drivers in NZ.
It looks like the Porsche needs a driver mod. The Mustang catches up under braking and turns and sometimes tries to overtake, but the Porsche pulls away in every straight. It doesn't look like the Porsche is being pushed as hard in the braking or turns, but I can only see what's in the video, so I don't know.
Say what you will about today's racing with computer controlled cars and C.A.D. designed bodies but these 60's-70's are where the real excitement's at. You could almost hear the guy in the black Porsche screaming at his crew "somebody get this guy off me!!!!". Lmao. I love the nostalgia races and these old car Trans Am races.
That was fun! Nice race. I can see where you went hard when you wanted to get serious. Nice lines... Can't see where anyone mentioned the airbags at 22:40 though...

The black 935 looks like the old Interscope Racing Porsche driven by Danny Ongais. I can assure you if Danny we’re driving he’d have left everyone so far in the dust it wouldn’t be funny! In qualifying trim with the boost turned up these engines made close to 1200 hp! They could turn an 9.80 et in the quarter mile with road racing gearing!

Bruce has his own shop here in the USA which maintains his '79 "Werks" Porsche 935. Sure, it was made in Germany but his "American" mechanics maintain it here in the US. My point, which I thought was made clear was for everyone watching this video, to just appreciate "YOU and the other guys" for bringing your BAD ASS "Vintage" pieces of history out on the track and allowing "US" the viewer(s) to see this event. Basically, I was asking for the shit talkers and cry babies to put aside their "feelings" about which car they personally believe is BEST or BETTER. Thank you for posting this video.
Instead of the four Webbers I'm surprised they didn't use the Autolite inline 4 bbl carbs. Great pass around the yellow camaro i love the 935s but the sound of the 302...omg I wouldn't care if it was last.
Boss 302 Cleveland canted valve heads 2.19 intakes
@james avery well, they are very reliable and with enough cash, alot of bad physics can be minimized.
I saw "my" 914 I had in high school in the 90's!
I always wanted a 914, good car for the money. Are they buildable for high performance?
Almost took home a few pedestrian souvenirs.😉🙈 Awesome job.
What happened to the white Porsche? I'm presuming mechanical issues seeing he slowed considerably then pulled into the pits. If he'd kept going at full tilt there was no way they were catching him, he was disappearing up the road before the problem struck.
Nice to see an old card that’s 40-something years older than the newer ones out there spanking ass! Taking names! Nothing like the sound of a good old pushrod V-8! Especially the old small block Ford! God Bless America!
The only music in this is a V-8. Nice video. As a Biker I now understand the Corkscrew. I understand this is a vintage race, so the pace may be off, but this car was much faster in the corners.
God that noise was amazing.
Thankfully he didn't add some stupid music track.
When you were driving through the pits at the end, right before you parked, I was instantly sold on what my car needs to be. It's a 65 Fairlane with a 289. It's name is "the crooked d".
The Boss has 289 conrods, which is one of the things that made it great. You have part of a Boss. ;-)
Good driving and great move, just goes to show you having the fastest rig doesn't always get you to the finish line first.
Great run at beautiful laguna seca.
Nice drive JW ....very patient.. .....just waited for the moment and it came. Cheers from Mackay AUSTRALIA .
Thanks JA! That means a lot coming from one of you gear-heads down under.
Cheers JW .Thanks for your nice response .You might like to type in u tube Muscle Car Masters Australia which is a class of racing over here you will enjoy watching . Just quickly is that you again at 2013 Rolex Mont ? Happy Days Bloke...... J.A
I have heard of that group.
Yeah mate they hook in over there . Cheers/
@@jwatkins6374 Oh God don't send them any Mustangs, they put Chevy motors in them.
Nice driving and beautiful car! Thanks for the upload:-)
Thanks for sharing that great footage! That track is one of my all time favourites and in my eyes the most awesome one on the American continent.
50 Porsche geeks disapprove this video
yep!
lmao but fck them
real motorsport funs like all nice cars
but you have to admit, no one has more geekier geeks than Porche does........😊
@@gl9500 so true !!!! They are talking about a one off tube frame mustang bodied car !!!😎😎😎😎😄😄😄😄🍺🍺🍺🇺🇸🇩🇪
Nice move at 12:30! Wow!
Great video.
Great driving.
Thanks.
I've watched this many times... and I don't know who the driver is, but he is good!!
Thank you
Group 5 and IMSA GTX glory. Very fascinating period in motorsport history.
That was fun! Nice race. I can see where you went hard when you wanted to get serious. Nice lines... Can't see where anyone mentioned the airbags at 22:40 though...
Hard to beat the sound of a sbf. Fine job wheeling that beast around.
12:34 Surprise Mr. Camaro!
Love this video.. although this is a vintage race and I believe most of the drivers are semi-pro at best.. some Pro drivers obviously.. but I dont think the vehicles are of the same class.
My favorite track..awesome run. That yellow car did a favor and forced a split and pass by the boss (holding him up anyways:).
Sounds really good - enjoyed the video - thank you. Go the Stang !
When you're the king everybody steps aside LOL
Those Porsches jump like rabbits but man, how much deeper into the curves that old 'Stang goes, slamming the door shut every lap!
I knew every turn of that track from years of playing Toca Race Driver 2, 68 mustang challenge lol
Brother had both a Boss 429 (1070 semi Hemi) and a Boss 302 in a Fairlane. He stated the Fairlane was way faster. Damn did a it ever scream. As for the Boss 429 unfortunately his life went downhill and he had to sell in in the early 1080s. I think he actually broke down and cried.
Man! That was ultimate ASMR!
Damn legendary cars with different DNAs!!!
porsche got impatient and let you grab a sick opportunity to get around him. awesome driving and patience, especially in traffic!
This footage would have been so much better with digital display coverage, laps, speed, time, position, still good stuff though, thanks for sharing.
Awesome job out there!! You looked like you were dominating the track near the end, passing cars up like no tomorrow! I have a 1970 Mustang Coupe I recently bought with a 302 V8 in it. It is my project car. This inspires me to maybe race it once I get used to it and modify it a bit to be an even better car! I may not do as intense driving as you did, but it inspires me alot. Thank you for posting this!
His is a boss 302 with Cleveland heads
The black 935 looks like the old Interscope Racing Porsche driven by Danny Ongais. I can assure you if Danny we’re driving he’d have left everyone so far in the dust it wouldn’t be funny! In qualifying trim with the boost turned up these engines made close to 1200 hp! They could turn an 9.80 et in the quarter mile with road racing gearing!
15:32 I thought you were going to tag that Datsun it was like he didn't know what to do when getting passed.
LOL Who needs a horn when you have loud pipes!!
that is one fast little hot rod i tell you what!
They where made so that the throat spacing on the carb throats matched the intake port spacing on the 302 Cleveland heads.
Always love the drivers perspective of the Corkscrew. I can imagine the stomach rising towards my throat feel th hat must have at speed.
That "corkscrew" is is like a roller coaster ride on a motorcycle!
