Whats great about racing Mustangs as opposed to other makes, is the wealth of information available on bits, setups and tuning. I have the factory homolgation info from Ford for the 69 302 TransAm cars. It was put together by Holman Moody and copies are available. It has every single thing you need to change, modify or replace right down to spring rates, shocks and discs. The units approved were straight off the Lincoln Continental. The engine stuff to make a 302 with Cleveland heads sing is also very interesting. I mean who waxes, fills and smoothes engine blocks today? Who reverses the water flow and the oil flow to make it run cooler. It tells you what to do to make the 302 live for three hours at 8000rpm. It even goes into how to modify the engine mounts and accessories so you could do an engine change in 30 minutes. It tells you what to do to the detroit locker to minimise backlash and to free float the axels. And we all know about the front cross member and upper arm 2" drop to get the front lower and to give the ability to change the camber. Brilliant.
@@rwbz28 that's bs. 67 gt with a 390/4 speed and 3.73 gears. Dropped 2 in the front 1 in the rear. With the right shocks, sway bar and spring rate they handle just fine. As good as anything else on the road. But I guess it's good to know 'your' limitations.

Partial to '68 coupes, myself. Owned 2 back in the 70's- 80's and bought my son two as well (he got rear-ended in the first). Right across the Sabine from you. May be looking for another soon. I miss those cars.
You can build one. Maybe not to this standard but it is not difficult. Get an Explorer motor from a junk yard. Follow the Holman Moody build instructions and with about 4 grand you can have an 8k motor all day long. I have built 30 plus motors and twist them hard racing in rod race events.
Had a 68 Shelby Mustang that we dropped a blue-printed Boss 302 into. Had a needle-bearing valve train on top of a roller. It was just scary as hell over 4500 rpm.
@Jeff Lee lol .. what a dumb reaction. Because it would help alot with smoother driving. Especially steering ratio. Shifting too would make it much faster and smoother.
American Muscle Motorsports & Services I was in no doubt about the power. In fact because of the power the engine has enough to pull another gear rather than be limited by hitting maximum revs.
Hi, in this vid the car made a lap time of 10:10min for the Nordschleife incl. GP track in sprint configuration. The engine is a 302 with about 445Hp (chassis dynoed) Regards,
Hello, our car is built to 1968 TransAm reglement. Our drivers use it mostly for the german FHR Langstreckencup, an historic endurance race championship. But also other races like the touring car race at Spa Classic or Spa Summer Classic have been raced yet. We´ll see what still will go on....
He didn’t use the clutch because he was at the right rpm range but the thing is that doesn’t happen all the time I can’t downshift and do that so automatic transmissions are definitely faster that’s proven
This is just BAD ASS in every way. The sound, the aggressive driving, the violent car. I want one, bad!!
Something about the sound of an angry built V-8 winding out to make your day...Sweet vintage racer!

I got to get me one of those !
So this 'readily available'?
Mind telling me where?

If she’s a Camaro or Mustang she’ll huge corners all day. Don’t let that body fool ya, lol!
TheAndyPKay, yes they do, both left and right!
Love the long revs man and the way he smash the stick changing gears satisfy me!

..and again.
Man that is some beautiful music you're playin' there!

3:30 is my favorite part of this video every time I watch it. . . This makes the 7th or 8th.
Dude driving is a BOSS!
Doesn’t look at all like a Mustang or any other pony car under power. Very rigid. Looks like a fun day
I’ve driven the “Ring” several times. You must pay your respect to it or it’ll scatter parts from your ride all over the place!
Straight cut gears in a classic? Nice!
3:20 dsg gearbox
Its "Dog Box"
That motor sounded soo healthy
Savage gearshifts!
Nothing like the sound of a pissed off V8
Aj G Yeah you’re right the engine does sound great even though we all know that it’s really happy because of how well it’s kept and maintained
A v10 😌
That shifting tho...
Wow that’s amazing where can I get an engine like that

I'd love to take a 80's Rousch prepared trans am to the Ring OMG

Smashin them gears... Did that in my 14 and screwed up 3rd

@@Miatacrosser or strait cut gears
@@martinmetz8985 actually it's got cut sychros(every other tooth removed) which this car does too.
SO FREAKING INTENSE!!!
How long does the gearbox survive?? ^^
Nice! But u need a faster ratio steering rack and short throw shifter.
@Jeff Lee lol .. what a dumb reaction. Because it would help alot with smoother driving. Especially steering ratio. Shifting too would make it much faster and smoother.
i think it already has a short throw shifter lol, and vintage racing regulations dont allow to use anything not period correct
Ah...running with a Mustang, and now the new 5.2 liter Voodoo engine....
almost needs a 5th gear on that straightaway. lol I imagine going any faster would be scary though.
Nikki
@apexnuerburg ..... SURELY someone has a vintage 60s muscle car you can use. . . . lol
Thought my glasses were smudged lol
я могу смотреть это вечно
Just Badass ...
No outside images of the car??
What I wouldn't give to see a short throw shifter in that car! Was the driver giggling at 3:33?
It handles like a boat, shifts like a tractor, is a giant handful to drive… but damn does it sound glorious and goes like stink!
Wow that's impressive, did the engine have the 302 4v boss heads?
AliasSLH bullshit, there are also “modern” Cleveland style cylinder heads
Is that a Detroit locker differential making all thhe noise. Clanking and whining?
Hi. the noises come from the transmission with its straight teeth gears.... ;)
American Muscle Motorsports & Services what transmission? Seems like a 5th speed would be handy on the long straight.
4speed T-101 by GeForce
engine makes enough power for 240kph on the long straight
American Muscle Motorsports & Services I was in no doubt about the power. In fact because of the power the engine has enough to pull another gear rather than be limited by hitting maximum revs.

that was me driving
sounds fine..video resolution is outdated low!
Mustang thinks it's a Pegasus,...and he laughs! lol.
wicked driver!

Cool except you are only allowed to overtake on the left...period , this is an open day and road rules apply
It’s going to break the gearbox, needs to learn to do “heel and toe”.
Also learn the “brake steering” technics to get a good lap time.
