  • You may or may not have had your house fumigated for termite treatment. If you have, it is likely you simply followed the company’s preparation instructions and turned over your house key to them. This video will show what exactly happens after you turn over your keys and some tips about fumigation. I suspect you will see a few things you may not have expected or imagined, such as the poison is actually in use for only one day, they may use tear gas, how the poison gas is released at the end, and so forth.
If you have not had experience with fumigation, but are currently preparing your house, this video is a must watch because seeing how we wasted some time and effort may save you some of yours.
While local spot termite treatment may be cheaper and take less preparation, it does not affect termites in inaccessible areas or undetectable infestations, and can not achieve whole-house eradication. The advantages for spot treatment are that it is cheaper, and is more convenient because you don’t have to move out for a few days. However you may continue to wonder if there were areas harboring termites that were missed.
Fumigation or tenting is the only whole-structure method that has been proven 100% effective at eliminating every drywood termite infestation, including the undetectable infestations. However, it is more expensive and you will need to stay elsewhere for a few days. And the termites will eventually come back after fumigation, so it is better you spray some chemicals around your house as well as an ongoing deterrent.

Usually it does not matter what YOU do, termites will come back through your neighbors, so need to check every 7 years. Often fumigation companies will have a yearly plan to inspect and treat the problems. Like any insurance business, their pricing statistically in their favor to make money. You know your house the best with real data, how long do you find termites after previous tenting or related problems? History is likely repeats, from that data, you can actually calculate your costs and compare different options so that you can make the best decision.

Yes, I agree. When we had our house done, I had long time trying to learn without success. For the question about the price:
When small businesses does not have a fixed price for their products or services, they may make it not be transparent about their transactional profit, thus they may not want to disclose things in details to reflect their profit margins. The less they give you, the more money they can make. Therefore, you more you know the details the more bargain power you have, at least to make them accountable for their specific promise. Fumigation is used for taking out infestation. It is a gas and that makes it able to penetrate wood concrete and bricks. When the treated area is aired out there is nothing stopping reinfestation from reoccurring. Fumigation is a last resort to big problems it does not help keep out bugs it is used to kill them. It has a one time effect. Regular pesticides like tempo and other liquid pesticides have a long term kill span some up to 18 months.

@@petef.4361Drywood termites can get anywhere in your house so the only real way to prevent them is to treat all wood members prior to construction. Obviously a best case scenario. Drywood doesn't work from the ground up like subterranean. They can enter through roof vents, get in your attic, etc.
You can spray the outside of your house with a product like fipronil (various brands available). There are various instruction videos on RUclips. Then you'd need to spray all wood in your attic with a borate product (various brands). You can also do a preventative treatment by spraying a borate in all of your wall voids through a small hole in the drywall that is easily patched. It really depends how thorough you want to be and whether or not you want to hire it out or DIY. Pest control companies can get very expensive very quickly.
Tenting is rarely necessary and should be considered a last resort. Pest control companies love it because it's easy money. But tenting has absolutely no preventative qualities. It might kill what's there, but a week later you could get another infestation started. The only real way to prevent is to take a truly preventative approach and that takes different products and some work.

If you are selling the house then the buyer needs inspection called Section 1 items which includes termite report. If you have termite, the buyer will try to negotiate the price to deduct the cost of Section 1 items, usually not using the cheapest contractor. If you are not selling the house, them you must treat it for your own good, because those termites will eat the lumbers until the house falls down.

    • @GeniusAsian

the cost depends on three factors:
      1. the cubic feet of the house including the area of the deck if included.
      2. the temperature of the day of fumigation
      3. how busy they are in your area
it is about $2k, the first item is the most important (cubic feet).
